  • This was a 9 day, 90+ mile, backpack trip with my good friends John Amorosano, Gregg Messenger, and Seth Hollada that we did back in early March. We started at Lipan Point at the Tanner Trailhead exiting at the Boucher Trailhead via the Tonto Trail going from East to West. We camped at Tanner Beach, Escalante Creek, Ayer Point, Grapevine Canyon, Lonetree Ledge, Indian Garden, Granite Rapids and Yuma Point. Mother Nature threw it all at us, snow, rain, hail, sleet, wind, and beautiful sunshine; perfect for a a memorable backpack experience!

Thanks for posting! 9 days worth of food adds quite a bit of weight. Can you tell me the approximate range of your pack weight on this trip?

I think I was in the 36-38lb range for everything including carrying 2liters water and all the food. My food typically comes in at 1.25 lbs per day…

This trip we didn’t cross the mighty Colorado River. However on past trips when we did cross the river we used light weight pack rafts. The best light weight pack raft IMO is the Supai Adventure Matcat. It can handle class 1 rapids and probably class 2. Great piece of gear!

Great job on the video...and the hike. I am watching the video for my 4th time. What editing software did you use?

I’m all about keeping it simple. I shoot pics and videos on my iPhone 11 Pro and use the accompanying iMovie App. I’m not an editing pro and don’t want to become one. I shoot these videos to preserve the memory of the adventure! Glad you enjoyed it!

We were on trail for 9 days from March 6 to 14. The weather and temps made for a great trip provided you had the right gear!
