To the people hating on the gun. If it does t interest you then dont buy it. Go buy a canik and put your red dot on it. Not everyone has to have the most up to date thing and you dont really have to have all that stuff. This gun right here will do everything you need it to. Its a nice classic to own as history and can very well be a good home defense or even carry gun. It wprks and it shoots great. Very accurate.
I have a Gen 1 17 in the original box, original manuals and magazines. It'll stay with the family.
Do you have any idea what the gen 1 version are going for and the box 2 man I would get rid of it loose by a reproduction, one in the video
I got one too. Bought it in 86 lol
It’s amazing to think that for the most part it is functionally the same. I know there are those that will knock Glock for that, but it’s a testament to the fact that they came out of the gate with a really good product that does just about everything you need and then some.
If every company was copying me, I wouldn't change much either.
People slam Glock for the same reason they slam iPhones. Glock works, everyday, every time. Not expensive, functional, perfect. I wouldn’t trust my security to anything but a Glock.
I agree with your comment on glock :) not on iPhone hahaha there garbage I’ve had 3 all 3 stopped functioning in some way or another within 2 years of ownership… and there expensive can’t compare iPhone reliability to a glock :)
Look at new 1911s. Fundamentally the same thing with a few upgrades. JMB got it right and so did Gaston
I still have my 1985 17 & 1990 19, both in excellent condition
Really can't beat this firearm. It's simplicity is its beauty in my mind and it's durability. I carry a 17 gen 3 for many years. And I have many many guns but i always seem to return to my glock 17 for carry ..it's just that good ..thank you for this wonderful review
likewise my man likewise
I picked up one today at Acadamy Sports for $390 OTD. They had it on clearance sale. A brand-new Glock of any kind for under $400 bucks is a steal.
Same here I got my for 350 OTD New.
I got a Glock 47 for $399.99 plus $10 BGC I was happy
That's such an amazing find. I got my Gen 2 police trade in for around that, so that's a freaking steal
@@Recipe_For_Disaster_TV damn what a deal. I went with the G45 and im pretty happy with it so far
@@Recipe_For_Disaster_TVThat’s awesome!!!🔥🔥🔥
I own a gen 2, Glock 23. Bought it in 1989 while stationed at Andrews Afb. 😍
Still have the tupperware box, manuals, all the original sights, springs, including the new york trigger springs (ick, 11 lbs.). Obviously changed them all!
I still love it!
OK since nobody's said it yet, for nostalgia's sake "Rock out with your Glock out."
I still have my original I bought back in 87 for reasons too long to go into detail, let's just say I lived in MD at the time, it has less than 500 rounds through it along with the egg crate case. It is a work of art.
my first handgun when i turned 21 in1986 was a glock 17. was a great gun. i remember trying to figure out how to strip it down. i put a mark on the rear retaining plate be trying to pry it off. this was way before the internet so there was no info on how to do it.
i sold it a few years later . i still though have my g19 gen 2 that i bought in89 . still have the receipt box and all. what is suprising is that a new glock today is only a couple hundred more than what i paid in 89 .
Went in earlier this year to purchase my first handgun and this one fit perfectly in my hand. I was forcing myself to lean more towards newer generations, but I couldn't go away from this G17 GEN1. I was born in '94, so the idea of having the same first buy buyer experience as some of you caught my interest. I like the frame not having an accessory railing and everything just looking plain and simple. Eventually, I want to get another one later and not shoot it
I'm a gen5 owner but I always liked the squared off look the most.
Same. I hate how they’re beveling everything now.
@@seanvine39 Specifically the front of the slide by the barrel. Not a fan
@@myst8217That square muzzle is just iconic.
I bougt my first 17 in 87; still have it! Shot about 300 rounds through it. Awesome!
Cool pistol. I bought a gen 3 G17 not too long ago. It's the most accurate handgun I own. It took me a while to warm up to Glock, but I get it now. Looks, ergonomics, and sights be damned...it's a solid workhorse.
I think Glocks are beautiful but to each their own.
One of the only guns that never needed an upgrade.
what? haha... they cant even compete in a modern market.
@@maximusjoseppi5904They don’t have to. Nothing can compete against a Glock. Glocks are the most reliable handguns ever existed. People buy them more for a reason. And math never lies. You do.
@@maximusjoseppi5904for not being able to compete in the modern market they sure do remain one of the top selling pistols
@@reiniergarciareliable yes but so outdated. Least ergonomic thing you can imagine
@@reiniergarcia nothing? M&p, usp, pdp, p-10, 226, all great guns which offer much more than a Block does.
very cool
So I found one yesterday at my LGS. Again you are right on the money Don. I really like this model. I carry my Gen5 19 for EDC in a TRex arms Sidecar 2.0. I am seriously considering adding this one to my new rotation. I threw some trijicon HD orange and polished the internals and it is an incredibly sweet shooter. Thanks again for another great review.
I have a Gen 1 original, was sold to me by a widow of a New York city Detective. I've cleaned it, but I have never shot it. I got it for 250.00
Same boat here but i bought it brand new during the pandemic for $400. I have other guns i just keep that one brand new in case its worth something someday
The true half life 1 pistol in my heart.
I wanna get one of these and put a Lambda symbol slide plate on it for this very reason.
I think it was Gen 2 in the game but who cares.
Don, thanks for this! I was one of the early Glock owners in the US when the 17 came out during my LEO days. I've often talked about it with my buddy over the years; told him how much I missed it (had to sell it). Soooo, for my 60th this year, he bought me one of these! Obviously, what a great gift to have things "come back around..."
I heard about this gun back in late 86 or earl 87. I wish I had gotten one then instead of the Taurus 92 I bought. I got rid of the Taurus decades a go (never again buy one) I have since enjoyed the Glock and even carried it. I like it.
I have one of these. I bought it for myself for my birthday in May. I love it!! I'll only shoot it once a year on my birthday.
I have an original gen 1, still shoot it today.....had a problem with it a few years ago. The lockback on the slide had rounded out and would not stay open......sent it back to Glock and they fixed the issue.....
I bought the same Gen 1 Glock as a rookie and the old timers said it would MELT in the sun. LOL
My first Glock came in that tubaware type box when I got my Glock 22...wish I still had it.
I picked up one of the P80 repro a few years ago. Honestly a great gun (for a Glock). Solid shooter that uses all my PCC mags! Winning!
I been hoping for years that Smith & Wesson would reintroduce the 5906 series and its variants. I'm sure there's many of us that would pick one up or several for that matter instead of having to wait around for some old police surplus models to turn up online. Hopefully, they'll follow suit C'mon S&W!!!
I have to get this. I'm so glad they re-released the gen 1
I have a real Gen 1 marked MPDC , the box it came with has the 17 ammo holders molded into it. Love it, would never part with it.
Been a Glock owner for a while I own a g19 gen 5, g44 and a g19x love them don't have that one yet hopefully soon 2A🇺🇲 hello from Phoenix Arizona 👋👍
I have respect for the Glock, they are excellent pistols, but i still prefer the Beretta 92.
and i feel the same about both of those and prefer the Browning Hi-Power/ FN GP35. Neither the Glock or Beretta fit my hand as nicely.
Thanks Don great review of original
Hey Sootch
been watching you for years .Love your reviews .Have you checked out the shield arms z9 mag for the G43 9 rounds .Great and a ets 12 rd in the pocket
Great review! I hadn't heard about this one. Question. How does it differ from the P80? Thanks,
Just got one of these yesterday, my first firearm. Well technically second, but my first that I bought. Got it for $560 from Academy.
I remember lusting over those when they first came out!
With the passing of Gaston Glock, this will definitely go up in value. R.I.P. Mr. Glock
An awesome review!
Proud to have one..
Here in California we have to buy guns on a roster. So we are stuck with the Gen 3. My Gen 3 G17 is made in Austria... I purchased it a few months ago, new.
Awesome video nice glock 17 gen 1 thanks for sharing sootch00
Do you still shoot the 25-45 sharps? I haven't seen many hunting videos on it. I'm going to hunt with mine this year but I don't record my hunts.
Pretty neat, thanks for sharing brother 🇺🇸
Sootch, nope it didn't come with the Gen ll, I've bought my 1st Glock, the model 17 back in '91, it has the spring separate from the guide rod. My box is same as the gen l,,,,,
This would be perfect fr the CAA MCK since we cannot use a light on it.
Cool to have the opertunity to get your hands on a reproduction G17 Gen1... What music was this? it went will with the intro.
Mine has finger grooves and a rail also has 2 pins above trigger. I don't have box I have a standard case .. all 3 serial number match .also says usa
We’re buying this. Thanks
Fun range gun for sure. The lack of gripyness is my only gripe.
My favor pistol g17 gen 1 but i never touched this, still my dream
I graduated high school for gunsmithing with excellent grades and went on an internship at HSprodukt and now I've been unemployed for 3 months because I can't find a job as a gunsmith anywhere and I don't know what to do now
Up until 5 months ago, I had a model 19 gen 1. I sold it to my friend who never even fired a Glock..now he owns an original.
Gen 2
Glock did not make a G19 in Gen 1
They just got it right the first time. Sig, HK, Walther, Beretta, CZ, and whoever else -bros just cant cope
I think it's great that they brought the Gen 1 Glock back into production, but I for one would love it if they did the same thing with the Gen 2 Glock 17 and 19. They were the best.
Why is that? I'm kind of new to Glocks.
based on Lipsey's pricing of $669...I bought a Bul Armory Cherokee Compact for $299 & a Taurus G2C for $225 and 2 extra mags for each; I am in a combo of bulk sell-off to cover medical bills & budgeted selective replacing to move from firearms enthusiast to basic self defense
I have a friend that wants me to buy his 1989 Gen 2 in mint condition. He bought it new for home security and hasn't fired it much. He said maybe a 100 rounds total. It has 2 clips, the paperwork, & the case it came in. What would be a reasonable price for one? It looks brand new. Thanks
For me, this apparently will be the first Glock I get to try.
Have a Pistola 80 from few years ago so basically this is a different nomanclature Glock 17 on the slide ? I need a Talon grip for mine. I actually prefer the Generation 3 over all the generations.
“If you had one of those early Glocks, this brings back memories….”
That’s really all this is. Nostalgia for the Glock fans, lol. Why else you paying $20 more for this Gen 1 tech than a Gen 5 Glock?!?
Someone offered me a massive amount of money and a new in the box Gen 4 for my original 17 , I thought this guy was HIGH ! I didn't know I had underwear dwars full of plastic gold lol
Now does this one have the polygonal rifling or is it the conventional rifling used in the Gen 5 Glocks?
I like the look of the Gen 3 best, but maybe I'm bias, because the finger groves fit my fingers perfectly, which really locks my grip in tight.
I like the finger grooves also. I think gen 3 has the best reliability track record also at least 9mm models.
Same thing for me
I’m thinking of getting my first gun is this a good option? I love this old school Glock and I am thinking of pulling the trigger no pun intended.
Can you please do a review of the Tisas Raider which is the Colt M45A1 clone.
You can even carry this gun if you want, is reliable like any other Glocks. Sounds like cool have the gun who started it all in the hip.
Very cool!
Love my 1986 Gen1
yeap, my old Glock box has a hole through the middle so you can put a lock cable through it. It speaks of the Glock came out in '87
I bought the p80 a few years back.
I did too. Good gun. I like it better than my Gen 5 to be honest.
Would this model be good for a guy with XL hands?
1911 of nowadays!!! Great , beautiful design!
Now am I not only getting this, I gotta get a P80 too. 😂
I bought this when they released and well over 2,000 rounds and no issues, only thing I did was extend the mag release and slide release and added a textured wrap around the grip and absolutely love it. Honestly I wanted it due to my dad had a Gen 1 in the Tupperware back in 98/99 and I was only 8 so it’s the first handgun I’ve ever seen brings back memories… a real Gen 1 is stupid expensive so this is good enough for me.
Would love to try
Sootch, please review a G17 Vickers Tactical Edition 👍
Does that also mean you have to find 1st gen specific parts? Harder to find more expensive
My local gun shop has an original 1988 gen 1 for $2500. Its in really good shape considering
I have one, it's not worth that much.
@@Asidebar I would never spend $2500 on a glock 🤣 the gun shop seems to think it's worth every penny
I needed a good laugh 😂 $2500 is hilarious
They're high
That’s crazy’s, considering that now the Gen 1 and P80 Glocks are for sale. Same gun.
I always known that, what gen 1 someday will be back! T1 theme 😎
8:38 bore doesn’t look concentric to the barrel ?
Will this be available everywhere or no ?
Would love to have one
I must have one
Have the Tupperware box for my g26
I hope Lipsey's does the G19 next.
Super Nice
Yeeah Gen1 still my dream, it from GLOCK inc? Or Replica from lipsey's?
I’m assuming it is a Gen three style trigger ?
Gaston Glock, my second favorite Austrian
My favorite firearm👍🏼💯
Mine came very dry with almost no oil. When I pulled the slide back it sounded terrible. It was screeching. The mag release button is too short and it requires a really firm press to utilize. The slide release is very difficult to press. My 19X is so much better. I was going to use the 17 for duty and for everyday use but I'm just putting it away to stay in my collection. I might sell it ASAP. Disappointed.
Well you must have did ZERO research before buying it complaining about the mag release. New guns doesn't come lubed they have shipping grease on them yours didn't have it.
probably the only glock i want
Love my 17 gen one. Never has hiccuped once.
My employer would not allow us to use or carry this. We called this a Tupperware gun. The Tupperware box we used to put or sandwiches in for a lunch box. There was a plastic holder built into the Tupperware you carved out …just a cool gun guy think…damn I’m feeling old. Mine says Austria…many departments refused this firearm because they thought it was unsafe. Fast forward ..mant departments went to it cause it was wa6 cheaper th@n Sig, Smith, Folt etc…The accounting Department won over the range master….not surprising….
No kidding it is the best ever handgun period.
G17 and G22 my babies ❤️💯💯😂😂
I want one.
Always thought the 1st Gen was the coolest.😅
Definitely a candidate if I wanted to scratch that G17 itch.
Not sure I would buy this. I do like it. I really want to track down a 17L one of these days.
I purchased a Glock 17 literally days after it became available in the American market, and it didn’t work, ( consistently failing to feed, no matter what ammunition was used.) went back in its plastic sandwich box, and amused myself with the then new Styer GB ( that worked great). Obviously history didn’t bare out my early findings.
