I absolutely LOVE this one!!!!! When I was 17 (I'll be 63 in a couple of days), a buddy of mine bought a 65 GMC ¾ ton with a big block V6. The misery he put that poor V6 through would have blown up at least 4 small blocks. He wanted to grenade the 305 so he could put a built 350 (punched .030 with a fairly radical cam) in it. After over 9 months of beating on it, he finally gave up and decided to drive it the way it was. He drove that old beater for over 5 more years and scrapped it when the rear end exploded.
Just some lyrics to a song to look up. I'm an old rock singer I got golden fingers and I'm loved everywhere I go... I got my poor ole grey haired daddy drivin my limousine let's all decide to blow our minds but our minds won't really be blown
I've been waiting years for this video. I've corresponded with UA-cam "experts" who thought I was crazy when I mentioned "big block V6". My father had a 63 GMC with that same engine. He traded it in for a 68 GMC with a 327 and said that he was disappointed with the new one because it didn't have the guts that the V6 had. Those engines were truly torque monsters. I give this video 100 likes whether UA-cam counts them or not.
I had a 1965 gmc 4x4 with the 305 V6 and everyone always talked smack, but that motor had so much torque and took my truck anywhere and pulled anything... have fun
I have a 68 chevy that I put a 67 small window cab on, the 68 was so rusted out. The exterior on yours is pretty nice with it having been a farm truck.
Im a firm believer in pressure washing projects inside and out when you get em. That way you can see everything and the poop and grime isn't hiding anything plus it's just gross not to 💯
Very entertaining video! Thanks for sharing this it really brought back the memories of hauling hay with my Dad and brothers. The farmer gave us a better deal if we loaded straight from the field! Keep the videos coming and anytime you need a free Mt Dew I got you covered Ben if you’re ever in Hurricane area.
Kinda sounds like a bent push rod the way it pops back. Nice find ole friend. Yeppers, I heard Paul drive by 😊. He's who told me about you. Thanks for sharing
Good, old lady, but not bad. The 304.6-cubic-inch (5.0 L) 305 had a 4.25 in × 3.58 in (108 mm × 91 mm) bore and stroke.[11] The 305A was equipped with a single barrel carburetor and produced 150 hp (112 kW) gross at 3600 RPM and 260 lb⋅ft (353 N⋅m) gross at 1600 RPM (measured without air cleaner or accessories in an ideal environment). The 305E was equipped with a two barrel carburetor and produced 170 hp (127 kW) gross at 4000 RPM and 263 lb⋅ft (357 N⋅m) gross at 1600 RPM in 1969.[12] The 305 was GMC's standard pickup truck and Suburban engine from 1960 to 1969. The 305A was standard in 1000-3500 series trucks in 1960-1961 and was dropped in 1962. The 305D was an option in the 1000-3500 series in 1961 and became standard in 1962, replacing the 305A. The 305E replaced the 305D in the 1000-3500 series trucks in 1963 and was used until 1969. The 305B and 305C (a 305B with a different manifold and carburetor) were used in 4000 and 5000 series trucks; the 305B was dropped in 1962 while the 305C continued to 1974.[13] Greetings from Frankfurt
Who in Utah remembers old Buzz? He was a very high ranking trooper that probably retired in 91. Big old man with a flat top in the Dodge Ramcharger, like a bronco. He was a great guy.
Its crazy when 2.5 inch up to 4 inch torks head deck screws are almost 10 bucks a pound. Buckets aren't even any cheaper anymore. The price of screws is getting outrageous in NY atleast where I live it is.
I had one of them same engine in a 1964 carryall I told her all of the farm field after 30 years and had it running in 10 minutes all I did was hook up a fuel supply
Walmart sells those jack with a 2 or 3 year warranty for $130 I think I paid for mine. same jack harbor freight sells 😂 they must buy them and put there stickers on them from the same place 😂
SMART MOVE WASH AND DRY A CHANGE THE OIL AND FILTER EVEN WITH NEW CHEAP OIL AND FILTER BEFORE YOU TRY TO START IT SO YOU DON'T RUN 20 PLUS YEARS OF CRAP THRU THE MOTOR AND TAKE THE LIFE OF THE MOTOR THAT IS LEFT IF ANY THAT V6 IS A OLD WORK HORSE MOTOR GMC USED IN THERE BIG TRUCKS YOU CAN LEARN EVERY THING ON YOUR PS ON THIS MOTOR IN ONE HOUR GOOD LUCK
The 305 was originally a diesel engine that GMC converted to a gas motor. Thus the location of the spark plugs where the injectors would be. Not very economical but bulletproof!!!
@@HeckYeahBen Ben, I’m not sure but the LPG is usually an add-on conversion. Ben Cox or Diesel Injection in Richfield may be the best person(s) to talk to about the diesel swap. If I get the chance I’ll stop by and chat with Ben.
i remember those engines back in the day, they were in school buses, old 30 series dump trucks and probably a lot of other farm type equipment. i cant remember for sure but i think the valve covers looked like the 409 style valve covers. probably wrong, ill ask my wife, she will confirm im wrong :)
THE STARTER IS JUST STICKING A LITTLE IT'S BEEN SITING FOE 20 PLUS YEARS IF YOU DID THAT YOU WOULD BE A STIFF TO SPRAY W D 49 ON EVERY MOVING PART / LIFTER STICK DID YOU CHANGE THE OIL BEFORE YOU STARTED IT ?? DON'T RUNE A GOOD THING

Dr Hook and the medicine show. Sylvia's mother, cover of the roling stone. 70s at its greatest. Say hi to Paul.❤
I'm the biggest Dr Hook fan there is! Been listening to them since I was a young teenager in the early 80s. Got all their albums. Love it😊
Those of us of an older vintage remember Dr. Hook.
I had a 1965 gmc 4x4 with the 305 V6 and everyone always talked smack, but that motor had so much torque and took my truck anywhere and pulled anything... have fun
That is a cool motor. Not a ton of horse power but a ton of torque.
They even made a V-12 version of it.
Yep big block 6 cylinder is 150hp and awesome find. Rarer then hens teeth. But a great find my friend
We 60's baby's know Dr. Hook. Yes we do.
Sweet old truck. I can't wait to see what you do with it.
We had new 1968 GMC 2500 with the 351e V6 . It had awesome torque at very low rpm. Loved that truck.
If you ever want to put the ol truck to work again hauling hay let me know we could have fun stacking some big bales on it!
Need to get a working clutch🤣 Sounds like a good collaboration video!
great as always great content very entertaining
Never in my life heard of Dr. Hook and I’m 60 years old

I have a '72 GMC that was my graduation present in 1987.

Noice!
I’m not really a General Motors guy. I’m more of a Ford man, but I even like him old Chevrolet than GMC. He’s like it and below that.
The 305 was originally a diesel engine that GMC converted to a gas motor. Thus the location of the spark plugs where the injectors would be. Not very economical but bulletproof!!!
That makes since, tell me about the LPG , was that common on those old rigs?
If so I’m thinking about converting it back

How much did you give for this truck?
I don't believe they made a big block 305 I think it's a small block, sir
Neg, definitely a big block ! They only made them in heavy duty vehicles and only in gmc. I’d heard about them but never had seen one
yup. i guess you're too young
Not so much a "big block V6" but the ONLY BLOCK V6. All GMC V6's are based on the same block. All the way to a 478. Same block.
