Color me green with envy! What a sweet Scout!!!!!! Saturday January 26, 1985 I test drove a '74 Scout. It was light blue with a removable white top and it was riding on white wagon spoke wheels. I was going to go to the bank on Monday to get the money to buy it but my son was born Sunday day and I was spending all of my free time at the hospital with my amazing wife and new son. They got to come home on Tuesday. When I got off work Wednesday, I ran past the dealer's lot to tell him I was headed to the bank. He gave me the heartbreaking news that he had sold it on Tuesday. 😢 I never did find another one for a decent price. Anyone who had one for sale wanted 1½ - 2 times the loan value of them. Sadly, I just didn't have that kind of disposable cash available to me. I'm still waiting for that Scout to enter my life!
Thanks so much for sharing this video Ben…you stating that you used to hunt with your father in one of these hit me a little…missing mine a little lately and it warms my heart to hear your connection to such a cool older vehicle. The 1979 penny was icing on the cake….beautiful video my friend…keep being you I appreciate it 🫶
My Brothers old Scout had the rear end do that as well (30+ years ago) it crab-walked after we took it 26 miles back on a logging road in 2 feet of snow! We were lucky to get back out with it.
I have a 1975 Scout ll XLC that my father got new. I did go thru it about 20 years ago. It is still a farm vehicle but I love the old thing. One of the best things I did is replace the lift gate supports with hydraulic lift shocks. Looking forward to watching what you do with this one
Cool Scout! My bet on the rear axle displacement is that the centering bolts that holds the rear leaf spring packs together and also locates the axle on the spring has broken or rusted away to nothing.
First time I saw you in a video was at Paul's new garage. A friend of mine in the 60s had a scout and we used it to go to the mountains on fishing trips. The tractor adventure was a riot!
My sister and her husband had a Scout 2wd 4-cylinder years ago, the rear end went out and they didn't want to replace the rear end. Sold it cheap. It was rust free.and every thing else worked fine. Shes kickong herself for getting rid of it, since the prices of where we're at they are pretty damned expensive now.
I grew up with the original scouts and let me tell you something they’re made out of sardine cans If you just say salt they start rusting💯🤣 But those suckers would go alot of places of Course not like what you have today you bring back a lot of memories We had that and we had the old bronco original we were deer hunters and we were never left disappointment💯👍✊✊🇺🇸🇺🇸
Uncle had a 1976 scout with a Nissan 6 cyl diesel engine. It had 4 doors and a sun roof. We hunted rabbits on the desert west of Rexburg ID. We counted the night a success if we had to clean the guns midnight. We would go through bricks of .22 shells a night.
Sweet scout. Working on a 75 myself. I have not found any free pennies, but I did have a free 5/8ths wrench fall out when I removed my driver side fender. 😅
New to you Chanel saw you with 89 build cleaning the rat dodo out that smell ? You all did a good job on getting that started friend had one just like that always that color to we went a lot of place in that good times in the 80s good luck 😅😊
That left rear wheel looks a bit "off", noticed before you loaded it.. My grandmother had a '66 Scout and then traded it for a '75 Scout II for showing farms as a Realtor. Great vehicles but prone to rust. I've heard people are using the cheap dollar store oven cleaner as a degreaser. IH valve covers are/were notorious for leaking.
I know you checked it these vehicles were made out very thin metal all the way around everything Watch your frame They have a way of dissolving🤣 Good luck Mr. on this one
My grandfather bought a new scout 2 with a six banger in early 70s that was great fun to drive. Only problem with it was from the time he drove it off the lot every time you filled the gas tank you added a quart of oil and IHC wouldn’t fix it
I noticed the crooked rear-end when you did the first walk around before you loaded it on the trailer. So you didn't know those, Scout II's came with rear steer to one side only 🤔
@ 16:28, that is not how or why that panel rotted. It came from tire flip up and over the wheel well hump. Pull that round plug above the end of the rocker and stick your finger in and see…
Passenger side of block below head , look for a square block will have engine size stamped there, valve cover gaskets cause big mess from leaking oil. 406 Garage has IHC parts, UA-cam. Broke many, fixed numerous IHC's at the dealership in SLC, Utah. LUFF MOTORS, I know where a collector lives in Mt. Part of my family.
I had a Sout with 345 and Allison auto, thing was unstoppable. Most dependable vehicle in cold weather, started when nothing else would though sat outside in lean-to. Traded it for Dodge snow fighter that turned out to be a piece of crap that ate parts as fast as ate gas. Dumb move!
Take your time cruising up the wash looking for more chrome wheels and tires cause you already have your lunch packed, it's on top of your head 😂😂😂. You're the one that said you were going to eat your hat if that chrome wheel fit. Sounds like you're going to have a lot of fiber in your diet lol 😆 🤣 😂.
I've got to be the best looking piece of ass I've seen in a long time😂😅.. I guess you can say you scouted repeat the ass. And you got them both Horace song.👍🏽🤙🏽😎🫏✌🏽🙏🏽

"Check out that sun....check out that ass." LOL!! hilarious! I wish i would have kept my 67 bronco half cab I had in highschool! Cool Scout Ben!

Lots of Scout memories! Hope you can get it going! You could have said, “Donkey!”😂
I figured I was safe since Ass is referenced in the Bible ;)

After you get the engine running, pull it, the transmission and the transfer case and replace the seals in the engine.
Looks like the center pin is sheered off the spring
You’re right on that
Sweet ride! I’ve had a couple of these over the years they are awesome. Is this the one going to the wrecker games?
It’s going to need some 89 Built love , Ls swap
@ right on

Yeah I heard they all leaked oil, this one looks like it was no exception

That is sexy af. Can't wait to see how she turns out!

Seat belts were mandated for all vehicles sold in the United States January, 1, 1968

Have Paul or Merlin put an LS in it!
The hat
Score on the tire! Those aren't the original mirrors. Same mirror body, but OG only has one arm, not 2. I am guessing it is smaller as well.
