- The controversy surrounding Edison Motors, as reported by Global News. Learn all about the ongoing government issues and stay informed on the latest developments.
Welcome back to our channel, everyone! In today's video, we dive deep into the ongoing controversy surrounding Edison Motors and a government grant. This isn't just local news anymore - Global News is covering it, and we're here to share our perspective.
The Spark of Optimism: We start with the initial excitement around B.C.'s Go-electric commercial vehicle pilot program, highlighting our groundbreaking work at Edison Motors - North America's first builders of a hybrid electric logging truck, and only Heavy Duty truck manufacturer in B.C.
Rejection and Confusion: The unexpected twist? Our grant application got rejected! For the only company solely focused on commercial heavy-duty electric trucks in B.C., this was a baffling setback.
The M.N.P. Proposal: We then unravel the peculiar offer from M.N.P., the well-known accounting firm. They proposed to assist with our grant applications for a hefty fee - 20% of the grant. Here's the catch: M.N.P. also administers grant programs. Red flags, anyone?
Is there a conflict of interest for companies who administer grand applications, to also administer grants? Should 20% of our carbon taxes be going to firms that do the paperwork to get the grants?
Uncovering the Conflict: We discuss our decision to bring these concerns to the legislature, leading to a governmental refusal to investigate, followed by a sudden change of heart due to new evidence.
A Heated Debate: Watch as the political drama unfolds with the N.D.P. and the Conservatives. Accusations fly, and calls for RCMP investigations are made.
Solidarity in Struggle: We're not the only ones affected. It's said that other companies have shared similar stories of rejection and an offer from M.N.P.
No End in Sight: The auditor's investigation is underway, but with no clear timeline, the controversy continues to simmer.
In this video, we lay out all the facts, voice our concerns, and ask the hard questions. It's a tale of hope, confusion, and a quest for fairness in the world of commercial vehicle electrification. Stay tuned as we keep you informed about every twist and turn in this ongoing saga.
This guy is a legend. I would support anything he did. Very smart guy with a very smart team.
Wise words well said.
And the dude building the trucks doesn't look like a dummy either
guy should be PM
He's also amazing in both letterkenny and shoresy. A real talent.
Yup
As a fellow BC resident i appreciate you calling this BS out. Massive conflict of interest.
Also the part where they're making trucks.
I love how MNP says " we have policies against conflict of interest" Then if that is the case, Clearly an investigation is warranted as somebody is not following those policies.
@@brettcoutermash2651 Not to mention the whole idea of conflicts of interest not being allowed in any governing agency is so we don't have to rely on "policy" to not be wronged...
This is so hilarious. Bush league. I wish i was working for a tax accounting firm again. Free money.
Now, to be fair, the rules might be so messed up, because a bc gov't beaurocrat is involved. That MNP has a retarded govt worker decoder. The 20% is a shakedown. A reasanable $750/hr for eleven billion hours would be more reasonable.
All this does is show how corruption has, and always will be in government. Because they're high on power and control while letting corporations dictate who gets the money (the ones who pay the most money to campaign contributions)
I like how they rejected you because your timeline was too short and budget too low, when you showed you could do it with Topsy. It’s like they want you to be more expensive and take longer.
Because it means more money for them.
They want a cut, not a completed project.
This all happened within HOURS of deboss explaining edison motors showing how light duty pickup electrification could happen with a lower emissions tier cummins 2.8 diesel engine. You can imagine how much that can affect the big three who charge 14k+ for the diesel option at this point.
If they do it for less MNP would not profit from the effort "enough," clearly demonstrating a conflict of interest. This sort of corruption and laziness on the part of the government and government employees is just an echo of the ArriveCan/GC Strategies mismanagement and I'm afraid it's "just how we do business" in government when the actual employes don't have the skills or, could it be, have an opportunity for kickbacks?
Well yes, they get MORE $$$ Same reason road repairs or construction takes so long. Has nothing to do with the task requiring it to be so. All about those corrupt payoffs.
"That the interest of the people are met..."
Ya, their people .
Their 20 % interest.
Funny how certain people are allowed to strong arm money out of companies
@@nephilimshammer9567 They are stealing from the government.
@@nephilimshammer9567 and to call them out is always "antisemitic"
@@YeahNaw- wut?
@@YeahNaw- no... uh.. that's not at all what anyone said here and to my knowledge only idiots online would call him that. "After new information came to light." No Mr. Reporter, you mean after the government got exposed.
That's right the info was 1000000 eyes looking at the issue and calling it out.
::: Exactly! The “news” is just backfilling; to cover up the government grift.
Yeah, I caught that interesting phrasing of the situation. Would have been nice if the reporters asked the follow up question. "What was the new information that came to light?'
@@BooleanOperator "That the minister's office had the information a month ago!"
"came to light" is government speak for "someone looked at it cause we got yelled at"
You best record the entire interview start to finish so they don’t cut up your story and turn it against you.

Definitely get more eyeballs on the company by being in the news. Especially since you're the good guys against corruption.
He who hands out tax money should never be able to make money off the tax money!
It's a complete scam and stealing grant money should be punished as much as any crime average joe or bob get meaning you steal a TV you get years in prison as my father did in Ontario so i demand these companies stealing tax dollars deserve to all get years behind bars also.
Make the entire board of directors and the CEO spend at least 10 years for every ten thousand dollars scammed in government grants.
I was on a panel involved in distributing a relatively small amount of grant money. we even bought lunch at our meetings out of our own pockets.
uncle is still in ottawa jail for stealing a tv back in covid too
@@kenbrown2808 As it should be
For what's supposed to be the NDP, they sure do like doing the Conservative Party move of throwing tax money at big corporations. Literally the opposite of what their party should be doing: putting tax dollars into PUBLIC WORKS AND INFRASTRUCTURE
@@thestarlightalchemist7333 sounds just like the current federal government, except it goes into the pockets of a few people. ArriveCAN? Firearms buy back? Vacations?

Congratulations
Edison Motors for bringing this to light. 👍
Takes balls the size of Mount Robson to play with that kind of fire! Good on ya!
Takes balls to be so obviously corrupt. They are not even trying to hide it.
I believe you’re more opening the eyes to the controversy.
That's how they launder the kickbacks to the govt. 10% for the big guy. come on man!
How they are trying to argue you can't write a grant application is astounding ??
Reminds me of how doing your taxes is complicated in North America due to lobbying by Inutuit.
Honesty IS the best policy, proud of you guys.
....a HUGE lesson the government needs to be FORCED to learn....with penalties for FAILURE to learn.🤔
This investigation should be extended to the Federal grant monies including the billions in housing funds that is disappearing without viable results. The Arrive Scam is a fine example of tax payer fund leaching.
Get a job
Ask Dougie
You guys made the right choice 100% and I'm proud of you for it.
Perfect example of how YOUR taxes get washed down before a net benefit to the economy.

thank god this is getting coverage, as a Canadian from B.C. I was worried this would be swept under the rug.
It still will, eventually. They'll say they've changed some policies, but no heads will roll.
the message made it all the way to Florida.
Look at how far being competent with integrity gets you!!
Yeah, this kicked off in Australia with Price Waterhouse Coopers (PwC) regarding taxation and advice to other private companies.
Private companies have no place applying to a separate business unit within themselves.
Holy shit Global News actually finding real news for once
If I was giving out money, and someone said they could do it faster and cheaper. I would be happy. Having a finished prototype is a huge step, its no longer a gamble.
Good thing the internet censure bill is not through yet, this would be gone.
Its great to see people with integrity and morals.
I can guarantee that if you think the internet is being censored, you haven't actually READ the bills in question .
My brother, you sir are a fine Canadian!
Hilarious. Great work calling this out Chase! Need more people like you in the world.
So the people who were responsible for doling out the grant wanted a chunk of the money they were giving you and the best they could do for an explanation was an ad slice about standard practice?
Even Adnan K., the Saudi "deal maker" only took 5%. !!
they would make the application for much more money. so it's like the concrete scam the mobsters were pulling off in NY city where they tell the concrete companies who gets the job and how much to increase the price of the concrete . say $15 per yard . then pay the mobsters $6 per yard kickback and keep the extra $9 / yd as an enticement. so the project owner (taxpayers)gets screwed and the gangsters( MNP) get a nice cut
@@ronblack7870 Who would have thought the mob would inspire future investment companies...
Good on you for bringing this to light! shakedown is right.
Wow, they really thought they'd be in the clear after screwing over so many companies, and smiling while they did it. Sounds like the provincial legislature aren't buying the minister's bullshit, and I truly hope she is at minimum censured, but preferably removed from office. I'd bet she's getting some nice kickbacks from MNP. No one can say that Edison Motors doesn't have the balls to stand up for what's right.
This is the reason we kicked the previous Liberal government out. Apparently corruption crosses all party lines, I'm so tired of having to hold my nose at every election.
@@lindsayseal8504I mean that’ll happen when you vote out the liberals and vote in ‘liberals but even worse’. They’re no different federally
Surprised Global reported this fairly! Good for you guys taking the risk to bring this to light and taking the chance with mainstream news 👍.
There is only one real question that needs to be asked: has ANY applicant not using MNP to write their grant application received any grant money?
The answer is clearly no! This is a dirty kickback scheme that MNP has cooked up to pad their bottom line! Guess they gotta pay for those adverts at the hockey game somehow!
Dig deep enough and I bet you find where the minister is getting money from MNP since she didn’t want an investigation into the matter!
well NDP are basically communists so that's the communist way . the officials in charge get the special perks.
"these allegations are false and misleading, we have policies for conflict of interest, just trust us lol" - so says the company who just so happens to be writing and awarding these grants for electric vehicles
20% kickback?! WoW 😲 😳
20% for the Big Guy. It's how the politics:business nexus works. Usually they get away with, particularly at the higher levels.
Thank you... Canadians thank You for coming forward and exposing this blatant corruption, grifting and money laundering of Taxpayer funds.

damn good press for Edison. Keep up the pressure, let's get the entire country watching this company and get the support rolling at the federal level. Across the border the UCP is just as, if not more, corrupt,.
It won't get any better under Conservative leadership either. Not the least reason that if Poilievre axes the Carbon Tax, the grant money won't be there at all.
@@BlackEpyon you might be right. But before the carbon tax scam there was Grant's and rebates for "green" energy.

I'd like to say I am surprised by this....regardless, great work for sticking to your guns and exposing the behind the scenes headaches of government bureaucracy.

Office of the Auditor General lists 4 Threats to independence with an assurance (audit) provider: self-interest, self-review, advocacy, familiarity, and intimidation. MNP check all 4. Rule 204 should be applied as MNP is the administrator of the fund and as Chartered Accountants, they must uphold 204. I am a CPA
It would give the government a good out from this mess. MNP would be found to have a conflict of interest and lose the role of grant administrator.
There you have it folks , Canadian government in action!🔥 🔥 🔥
You guys are absolutely doing everything right! Doing logical innovation and fighting corrupt systems at the same time. Legends! Who the heck thought it makes perfect sense to let a private company manage government funds/grants.
Well done! Shine a light on the corruption!
Testify! Same deal happened with me and the Digital Services Grant - it was a simple application but MNP came back with a $20k bill for "guidance and assistance" - it was all nonsense, just a corporate hustle to find a way to extract value out of clients. I was livid at such a blatant cash grab.
Yeah this is crazy.!!! Absolutely corrupt beyond belief. Being coerced into the fee through a 3rd party is racketeering... Yet never any charges.
Innovation AND integrity. You're going places, dude! Never stop pushing the boundaries, and don't let our disgusting government push you around and steal.
Right on! 🤘
Tremendous publicity for you Chase! Ironically this might have a greater financial windfall than the dollar value of the grant.
Funny thing about Karma.
Oddly enough, here in America they got this one right. Grant writing services are not legally allowed to take a percentage of any grants that are awarded. Nor are they allowed to say okay you can pay us $20,000 after you successfully win your grant.
Grant writers must be paid in advance their fee.
I was on a case right here in the US where a company charged with grant distribution for the SBA was doing the exact same thing.
They also hired their friends and relatives, and gave them loans from the SBA they were working for, to start the businesses that helped with grant writing to help to start businesses........
Icing on the cake was the accountant that was an accounting ethics professor on the side.....
The corruption in US politics is in their lobbying system, which Canada did away with by putting financial caps on political campaigns and prohibiting corporations from donating.
There should be questions about companies that both give grants and help applicant's write the grand request.
And I suppose that the amount they charge for it would be a good indication of how proper they operate. As well as how many grants are granted that they didn't write themselves.
Taking a 20% cut is just absurd and suspect. Especially when you first refuse their own application.
Wow RESPECT to you guys. Best of luck for your fight ahead.
Something doth stinketh in the great white north
Edison doesn't fit the Governments Narrative - they don't want you to succeed. Your trucks could operate all day as a hybrid and EV No chance!!
Gotta give props to Global for actually doing their job and reporting on the side that doesn't push their normal agenda
Thanks for bringing this to the public attention. This seems pretty corrupt which sadly has become the norm for Canada these days.
It sounds like ya'll should be sending e-mails to the CPABC, I bet they'd love to recind some CPA certifications from MNP employees involved in this scandal
Keep on Truckin
Love this company and the people who are part of it and it will be a colossal mistake if the Canadian government drops the ball and doesn't follow through on this grant! I wish you guys would come to the US! Best of luck guys, hang in there and whatever you do don't stop pushing forward!
Thank you for reporting on what appears to be a flawed process where a grant administering company goes around soliciting their high priced grant writing services for the grants they are administering.
MNP claims that this is done by other companies. If so, then they should all be stopped. Furthermore, I have lost all confidence in corporate claims that they have internal processes to avoid conflicts of interest.
I know how things really go, but I'm gonna hope this goes well for you.I like your product
Don't you know that MNP is electrifying trucks too? Their operation is smaller though, about 1/4 the size of Edison 😂
Surprise, surprise... go figure!
Let’s hope Global News reports TRUTH. And doesn’t twist the information.
Glad you spoke out about this and brought it to light. To me that just reeks of fraud and corruption.
Beware the snakes.
Is anyone else tired of people, and companies, saying "other people are doing it so what's the problem?" It's the type of excuse that admits the whole system is broken and no one is trying to fix it.
Also, no matter how much internal division and conflict of interest training a company puts in place, nobody should be allowed to accept government contracts AND THEN put themselves into a potential conflict of interest.
This just makes me so happy! The internet can be used for good. I love your company and practical approach to manufacturing

Its not about gpung green. Its all about money and politics. Thry know that its all a scam, or they wouldn't be making excuses.
what
@@valthoir what?
It’s like the carbon tax rebates, the liberals say most get back more than they pay. Meaning people who actually spend a ton in carbon tax, those that live in the country. And those that don’t, live in a city. So the people that are self sufficient in the country (rural) have to pay for those who live in the city to get more in the rebate than they actually pay. That’s wealth distribution. How can someone in subsidized housing pay as much in carbon tax as a someone that must commute an hour each way with no public transportation? That must heat a single family home vs paying utilities in a small apartment. And no people won’t all of a sudden sell their houses and move to a city.
I'm glad we have you here in bc, politics sucks but we all can agree that no matter what side you're on you hate money being wasted/ not used for their intended purpose. Small but insightful.
