China's leading electric vehicle maker selling cars for $10,000

- China's EV giant, BYD, makes more electric vehicles than any of its competitors and sells them for as low as $10,000. The cars are not yet sold in the U.S., where hurdles include a 25% import tariff. Meanwhile, U.S. lawmakers are concerned that smart car technology could be used to spy on American drivers. Free market only if America is ahead of the competition 😂😂
Hahaha, you said it right.

It's commendable to sell cars at $10,000 but corners will be cut for a price that low. I think China is capable of producing quality but it's just not worth it for you guys, the profit is too good. Here in Brazil the Seagull isn't the cheapest EV in the market; that title goes to the Renault Kwid E-Tech (think a rebranded Dacia Spring).
Nevertheless the Dolphin Mini is the best selling EV, selling over 20x more than Renault's cheaper offering. I guess consumers here just find the Chinese car better than the European one even when the Chinese car doesn't have the price advantage.

BYD bought and retrofitted Ford’s Motor Olant in Camaçari BA Brazil. I am sure they are going after Ford franchised dealerships.
Made in Brazil is a big deal for Brazilian car buyers. They want access to spares when needed.

@@serafinacosta7118 It's not just that Brazilian customers are big on local production; Brazil also has pretty high import tariffs on cars, which at 35% makes importing cars just not competitive with locally produced models. This is why Ford is being essentially ejected from the market after having chosen to stop local production; with it now having to pay those tariffs on all local car sales it simply can't compete with the likes of GM, VW, Fiat, etc, all of which have local production, or even BYD and GWM, whose local production hasn't started yet but whose import tariffs are currently lower due to them selling mostly EVs.

Let's tell the truth about the subsidies instead of misleading people: government subsidy is for the whole EV industry:

2. 10% of registration tax (sales tax) is waived for EVs, but this includes all brands, domestic or imported, such as Tesla, BYD, VW, any EV from any brands, made anywhere
3. Grants for battery research (there're government funding available for research on new type of batteries or improvement of existing batteries. University research labs as well as companies can all apply
4. In some cities (mainly Shanghai and Beijing), license plate is not immediately available, but rather a lottery system is established for ICE cars, and fee is high, meanwhile, EVs can register and get license plate right away
5. For the first couple of years, auto makers get a cash back for every EV they make, but soon it was abolished because the government found that some auto makers make the worst EV at the lowest cost that's possible, just to claim the cash back. That lasted a couple of years. Again, the cash back is for all EV makers, not just BYD or domestic manufactures.
Conclusion: BYD is able of building a $10,000 car is not because of government subsidies, but rather because of its efficiency and automation and vertical integration. True, the US should learn from China and focus more on utilizing IP theft and forced labour to reduce manufacturing costs to a minimum!
Why can’t we have these here
the irony is that American auto need Chinese company like CATL's help to be ready. The US should have aimed for joint venture.

Tesla,Boeing,Intel.
Come on guys, industrial subsidies were invented by America, not China.
The only thing I can confirm is that China is a good student.

If oranges were allowed to come into the states from mexico exclusively 20 years ago. All orange grovers in florida and california would be deqd now. Then mexico would control prices and hike it up to ridiculousness. Dont know why simpletons dont see this.
You could see Musk shaking in his boots. With him saying that China will demolish the competition without trade barriers, is his way of quietly saying that he'll get demolished with his overly priced "Elon cash cow" EVs.
You mean, You can use Chinese cars but in terms in condition Chinese communist is not liable for your loss 😂😂😂
American Cars is not just the product it's the assurance of quality and service
You’re joking right ?
Place 100% tariffs on them, then they will never sell in the US. Taiwan has been doing that over the past some 7 decades since the end of WWII, imposing 100% tariffs on imported auto vehicles. And it has been very effective, and even helps preventing Taiwan from developing its own auto industry. And that's why Taiwan still doesnt' have its auto industry.

@1.25, the commentator said that "...for a limited time to allow the US manufacturers to catch up..."
That is the general theme that has been thrown around, but ultimately, it failed. In Australia, the one locally designed and manufactured car, the Holden brand, was protected by the government by...yes, tariffs. Japanese cars were better, more consumer focused, and would you believe it? Cheaper.
The government was desperate to have a local car industry for employment as well as prestige, being a car manufacturing nation. Despite the tariffs on the Japanese cars, Australians still chose them over the Holden cars because of many factors. Quality of finish, economy, value for money despite the extra tariffs on top of them, and reliability, finally closed the chapter for Holden, and the Australian government's desperate desire to have a car industry.
So how long can tariffs protect US car industry? It depends on how patient are US consumers. When they realized that they have been ripped off by the government and the car industry, they would choose to cope the tariffs and buy imported cars, and stuff the patriotism bit.
The world will want Chinese EV cars, USA and its allies can keep having to drive their internal combustion cars.
I thought the tariff was 100% now?
Lol “US govt need to be more friendly”

At the end of the day the biggest loser is the American consumer.
It is competition. Helps bring cost down to benefit consumers.

@@RajDeelish It is competition. Does not mean workers need to take pay cut. Efficiency and manufacturing process, etc come to play.
It's not just cheaper labor, the Chinese EV makers invest in automation robots. The same behind-the-scenes technology that displaced many manufacturing workers all over the world.
The Chinese can sell their cars at low prices because they are not as *_greedy_* as the US corporations.
Yes but vertical integration is the key word, they practically make everything by themselves...very little outsourcing. They even own the mines that dig up the materials for their batteries as well as the huge ships that transport their vehicles to overseas markets.
