Funny thing about FF2 is enemy status effects are also broken. There's always a chance of being ambushed, meaning your enemy gets a free turn before you do. And the further you go in the game, the more likely enemy status effects are to apply, until they're basically guaranteed by the end. So if you're unlucky, you can start a battle, have your entire party stunned, and then get hit by guaranteed instant death effects before ever getting a turn, or have your own OP party members confused and start destroying your own team. And in this game, you can't clear confusion by attacking the affected ally.

@@Smileyhat this is basically the structure of all mainline Shin Megami Tensei games. I have been killed by enemies 10+ levels below me because of their Press Turn system in SMT4. I got completely stuck in SMT 3 (the hardest of them all by a large margin) because a few bosses in each game are designed as roadblocks, requiring specific team setups to allow you to actually beat the bosses. The Minotaur in SMT4 was my first intro to this, but I still have yet to beat The Matador in SMT3

And if you didnt grind the stats of the extra characters that leave the party, you would have no chance of beating the extra story in the gba version hahaa

not mentionned here because its not a game many people would even think about: Quest 64
The core battle system is turn based with a field you can move in where at the start of a turn, you have movement circle you can navigate, place yourself and choose a spell to cast. The game encourages early that when an enemy casts a spell, you use your own movement to try and dodge these spells yourself, kind of how mario RPG games let you try to take action to mitigate or avoid damage.
Oooooor you can just get lvl 36 earth and get Magic Barrier that completely negates all magical damage for 2-3 turns, which is like 99% of all the attacks in the game, I don't even think there's a boss with a physical attack. Congrats, the entire premise of learning spell patterns to dodge them is now meaningless for the entire remainder of the game.
Oh, also before you even get that lvl 36 earth you get the spell avalange at lvl 24 earth, which is arguably one of the best spells in the game with a bit of RNG. It's ridiculous to a point where the only other element you might even need in the game is water to heal yourself the damage taken between the turns magic barrier runs out or to teleport back to the previous town if needed. Near max water lvl you can even drain magic out of your enemies if you so happen to be running out of magic, but that's rarely an issue. Wind and Fire might as well not exist.

    • @BladeTwinSwords
      @BladeTwinSwords 2 місяці тому

An add-on to Earth. At Level 27, you get Confusion. This lets you get MP back when enemies damage you so running out of MP becomes a non-issue outright.

I'd like to include Cold Steel II, IV, and Trails to Reverie. In those games they made it easy to break Fie Claussell as a party member. You can easily boost her Evasion to 75%, but also 95% with a little planning. You then equip skills that make enemies focus on her, guarantee counter attacks, and make those attacks do up to 6X damage which means you free up more equipment slots for Evasion that you'd normally use for Defense or Attack. Depending on the game this may take a little time, but it's useful since she can distract the entire team of enemies while the rest of your party attacks. If the enemies shift their focus, Fie can use attacks designed to grab the enemies attention.
In Cold Steel III through Reverie, you can turn Altina Orion into a very OP mage. I believe her magic and physical stats are about the same, but if you focus on a magic build she make most encounters last a couple of turns. A little more work and planning is required, but nothing extensive. This one in particular caught me by surprised because her design and story suggest she's more of a power house than a mage.

I remember learning about one of the lesser broken setups, playing Morrowind at age 13 I found out by accident that if you can make it to the Ghost Gate, you can steal a half set of Glass armor with zero sneak skill, then if you have Mournhold, you will get a set of Dark Brotherhood armor. So as long as you can dodge Cliff Racers, you can get a half set of the best light armor and the other half being the second best before level 10. I still play a light armor 2h build with alchemy and alteration every time I end up playing it

    7th saga is reverse broken.
valsu saizer, the cleric, is one of the 7 possible character selections; you pick one, and kill other five throughout the story.
Enemies have no mp mechanics, they can use spells at will.
If he isn't the player's pick, isn't the second character, and is dropped as the final enemy, he'll be over level 50, and will cast elixir anytime, a spell that fully heals him, deadlocking the entire run.

Pretty good video except for the crossette talk. She never falls off even late game and is used in WR runs of land of challenge for some of them like poisoned paradise. Also surprised about the lack of 3 being mentioned in the video since Xenoblade 3 ups the crazyness and has even more broken combos than 2 allowed. This would make for a great series honestly since there are so much broken stuff in so many games. Very great video and list. Also hot take but FF8 junction scaling is underappreciated by many given how hard it probably is to make harder difficulties. If this does become a mini series i have a large amount of suggestions for other games like a majority of modern persona, SMT3 Nocturne and 4 Apocalypse, trails series as a whole, Star ocean games, FE Engage, Souls games could make the list too honestly. Etrian Odyssey 1-3, Bravely Default 2, FF6, Paper Mario the thousand Year Door.

More RPG-adjacent, but one of my favorite aspects of the Borderlands series is how utterly broken some builds can be. Like I stumbled onto 1HP Moze in BL3 and had an absolute blast seeing how quickly I could clear out entire rooms of baddies.
Short version: At the end of the first campaign, you get an item which takes away all your HP except 1, and puts it into your shields. This would be an iffy tradeoff for most characters, but Moze has an entire skill tree dedicated to getting combat and shield buffs when her HP is low. Properly built with a couple other key upgrades, Moze can wade straight into an entire mob of enemies, racing around and shotgunning them in the face while ignoring all their attacks, and come out the other side with *more* shields than when she went in.

Final Fantasy 8 : once you are in the town of Laguna, you get to a kind of highway where an overpass has a spot where you make an enemy appear from the air , landing above you and attacking you. You can repeat this fight with a turbo/automatic controller and leave your party (once strong enough) to level up to level 99 at this spot. Same thing : Final Fantasy Legend 3 (aka Saga 3) is a game with a space ship homebase, with a computer simulator combat spot to level up. Use a turbo/auto controller mode to level up during the night and return the next day. Final Fantasy 6 has this on the river escape scenario with a looping river path that can be exploited the same way!

Honestly hitting your own characters to increase their HP in Final Fantasy II is actually pretty awful. The real way to break FFII Pre Pixel Remaster is to run one naked frontliner and build evade% and Evade level. Evasion determines turn order and boosting evasion level to 10 few enemies can actually connect with physical damage which is good because enemy drain attacks work the same way the Blood Sword does.
Toad is hideously busted. You also don't want your magic to increase too quickly early game in FFII.

NO other RPG offer s you this. This is unseen to this day OPEN world to the truest! Like The Legend of Zelda 1 on NES! the open worlds on NES !

Use the high luck name code when creating your file, and go kill some medusa heads in the eastern tower... use medusa shield to kill enemies at the touch. Earlier than Alucard shield without the glitch !! Also : you can do it the normal way, it takes me about 3-5 hours max each time I did it (3 times normal, 2 times with luck)

You can level up with a job with high stat growth, trigger level down traps with a job with low stat growth, since, repeat, godhood.

*Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden* - Exploring to max out your damage by finding artifacts and silenced guns trivializes the game. Bormin (protagonist) has the most broken disabling skill in the game, while Dux (deuteragonist) can be specced to have guaranteed criticals and snipe from nearly a whole map early and he deletes robots, the bulk of late enemies.
*Wild Arms 4* - Raquel deletes even bosses with a couple of normal attacks, not to mention Intrude being the most broken thing in the game. Arnaud is extremely durable for a mage, not to mention he can shut down several enemies offensively and help party members get more turns if they need them (especially abusable with Yulie mid-late game).
*Xenogears* - As soon as you get the Yggdrasil, buy Ether Doublers and give one to Elly and Fei. Give one to Billy, Chu-Chu, Emeralda, and Maria when they join, and every battle will be a joke, especially in Gears. Bart’s Wild Smile stacks, which guarantees whiffing on basically every attack. Magnetic Coats further trivialize Gear battles.

About that for Raquel its BEST to have a Wild arms ACF save HER ACF transfer weapon is basically the Wild arms version of a Tales of games Devils/Fell arms weapon but the ONLY way to get that weapon is to have a Alter Code F save file one that just needs a save it doesn't require to beat the game.
Sure that weapon only HITS once but once it hits 9999 Str not even Ragu Ragula's 999,999 HP won't last for long with HER at lv 100 and it equipped.

Satan is guaranteed and Helel is easy to get since Mamoru is not social linkable very late game (He's halfway through the game). Only two enemies in the entire game, difficulty doesn't alter stats, can survive this attack and it has a Reduces HP/MP to 1 HP/0 MP after every cast but you can offset with healing items, the clock and Victory Cry (full HP/MP restore after battle). Final boss has 14 forms so you save Armageddon for 14th phase and the superboss has 18000 HP so you save it for once she's under 9999 HP. The Star ocean series is a broken mess, where invincibility is a normal state. 2 R, allows you to craft to make weapons and accessories to hit for max (early) Damage and obtain invincibility through bloody armor. throw in you can now absorb hp through factors and you can go for early ultimate weapons like Dias until you unlock the ability to break the Hp limit and do 10x more Dmg. 3 allows the boost in Def to become invincible. 5 gives you bloody armor as a title and your main healer has too much mp to run out.
6 has to be the worst. They made leveling too strong compared to armor and weapons. Weapons are only worth it if you are exploiting elemental weaknesses. equipment stats go up too little until you get to endgame, being over shadowed by just gaining levels. Letty exp boost + crafting junk to get surprise attack to a combine 400% (through on field party members) allows you to level up insanely throwing balance out the window.
If that wasn't enough, halfway through the game you can by rings that give you stats if your hp is 25% or less. This allows you synthesize it onto your gear to max out your attack or Def making you unkillable outside of status effects and fall damage (no guard members).
If that wasn't enough Alby has the abilty to stunlock most bosses in the game (the Bird, and Angels excluded). This is without talking about Nina, or making ultimate weapons by luck early on.

FF2 and FF8 are meant to be played without an ounce of grinding. In FF2 case, you naturally match the strength of the dungeons due to how the battle system works. weapons and magic level up faster the higher rank enemies are. *cough* lets not talk about unarmed and shields.
In FF8, while Triple Triad is the earliest to get broken, the fastest is still refining and carding. Instead of drawing you can fight enemies and card them. Early enemies like in Ifrit's cave, the bombs drop items and can be carded to make Fira X 20. Yeah thats low but better than drawing 100 fire. by the time you get off your first train, you can buy items at the shop to turn into Wizard stones to -Aga spells. That's insane to have those, making sure the rest of the game is a joke. Not much longer after that, you can go to the desert and fight the monsters that you card for Tornado, he also drops the item you can refine for it.
FF8 system is so everywhere and broken because it kinda has failsafes implemented everwhere. GFs level up independently and can be spammed to win boss fights with no regard to strategy, they also take Damage for you. A good amount of bosses have the magic needed to beat them on their person for Draw. Enemies magic level up also with their levels to make sure you don't fall behind. Limit breaks are priority to make sure they go off. FF8 is a broken exploitative mess to compensate its systems.

  • @Zuxtron
    @Zuxtron 4 місяці тому

I knew FFVIII would make the list; it's way too easy to give all of your party members massive stats. FFIX might hold a candle to it though; a few party members can have skills that, if you know what to do, can deal a fixed 9999 damage every time you use them. Zidane, Quina, Freya, and to some extent Steiner (his Shock skill isn't fixed damage but has a broken formula that makes it easy to hit the damage cap) make the game laughably easy.
