- In the video, our watchmaker dissects a Rolex Day Date 40 apart and sets the pieces on a calibrated scale to weigh them for their gold.
The watch we used in this picture is the yellow gold Rolex Day-Date 40, reference number 228238. Measuring in at 40 mm this watch is listed at around $39,000 in the pre-owned marketplace.
Video was recorded (on 10/8/2020).
This is not our watch but rather a job that was assigned to us by our friends over at CRM Jewelers.

Rolex gold is still better than paying over 30k to 60k for a stainless steel Daytona or GMT. These dealers are fooling everyone by making cheap models rare.

not to mention the price of a rolex is when you buy from an AD, and not from Rolex. The watch is sold from Rolex to the AD at 60% retail. A typical daydate at $38k, is sold from Rolex at just over $22k. If materials alone is $8k, this is actually one of the best value watches in the Rolex catalogue.

Rolex is gold plated steel. Solid gold is soft and deforms. Rolex is silent on plating depth and Rolesor ratios.
