I really like how unrefined and sluggish his fighting style is. Unlike Kiryu, Akiyama, or Saejima who are all experienced to the point they've developed their own styles, Shinada basically fights how a normal person on the street would probably fight.
He is supposed to rely on weapons, that's his entire gimmick. That's why you have an infinite pipe by default and why his Climax Heat moves all revolve around weapons.
Yeah, and that's one of the reasons I disliked his fighting style. At least give him a different fighting style with weapons as the others. A fighting style like ishin wouldve made shinada *WAY* better imo
If he didn't do those 1000 pushups, sit ups and 5000 swings, his fighting style would be less effective. Just kidding but it Is impressive he wins his fights with that style, especially on people that are experienced fighters
Imo the only experienced fighter he beats is Baba. I mean, to me he gets a good one on daigo and daigo's like ok and he just falls down, not to me tion daigo is nothing compared what he was in Y2 (even then he got his ass kicked ,poor guy)

Pros: - Easy Chaining against single enemies - Follow-up Grab deals respectable damage, and can be used for wake-up attacks like Kiryu's Bounding Throw - Better utilization of weapons than the other three PCs combined Cons: - Slow combos that feel sluggish and are easy to punish - Combo damage is... pitiful - Shinada's first weapon is absolutely pathetic in terms of damage output, and making or finding other unbreakable weapons takes a lot of extra grinding
Might want to add poor defense to the list of cons, too; it's already enough he doesn't even get the luxury of a proper counter like the other characters, but he doesn't even have a wake-up attack (neither does Saejima, but he's got a Knockback and his own TD equivalent) to get him off the ground quicker, either. And as Shinada, that's liable to happen to you. Often.
Its super fun to use tho, and honestly hes a beast when you know what your doing. His grab combos are snappy and you can get some sick combos and cancels with him

Tips first: - shinadas square triangle circle combo is the easiest\cheese move you can do with him. learn how to feint attacks so only your triangle and circle/grab attacks hit the enemy. you can obviously do this with his other combos but square triangle circle is the easiest for this manouever. - sliding kicks (run and triangle) and his parry might work as well depending on the enemy you just gotta experiment. - use all these moves to build heat and do a variety of heat actions for max damage - the youtuber in question is Amuro073. the dude is a yakuza 5 god and has mastered every characters combat to a science so just watch his shinada vidoes to learn so stuff. hope this helps
@@ugurkaraarslan25 no he has one where he can take out 3 enemies in one heat actions by jumping off the body of one of the enemies, while in mid air mind you, and horizontally slices towards 2 more enemies.
havent played him yet, but i could feel like a very unrefined style to his attacks. Heck his moveset feel more "thug" than Majima's thug style, which was quite refined in its own way all thing considered. Though i wish they also gave him a more slugger-like stance like Majima and also encourage players to use weapons with him since many players just skip alot portion of weapons in most Yakuza games simply because "if we can beat the game barefist, why even use weapons?"
To be fair brawler style is more thuggish than majima's thug style. In Japanese version of Yakuza 0 brawler is called thug and thug is called brawler. Majima as a thug actually is skilled and seems to control the fight, and kiryu's brawler is an unrefined style in which he just hits hard for effect. He looks kinda sloppy using it.

The moves still have certain flows and impact to them that make you feel like he know what he's doing. In Shinada's case, its the definition of "fake it till you make it" where there's no real flow or style to them; the impacts feel weak and uncertain
i like his fighting style it's more focused on grabbing (kinda like how tanimura is focused on parrying) he may not have a double finishing blow but you can use "My Explosive Finish" which is basically grabbing after a finishing blow.
With that body, of course he's got to use many sports moves. Also he can do a Boston Crab which is a wrestling move. He really do be fighting like a civilian that watches some sports a few times a week while only having experience in baseball.
Shinada I get. He legitimately had no place in the damn game. But Tanimura was a police officer for God's sake. He should have definitely come back, give us some insight to the corrupt justice of the current police department.
He does have some jujutsu grappling in his style. He may have trained years ago but got sluggish due to his baseball career. Not much is known about his backstory.
The fact that I realize that this is what i look like without a weapon in blade in sorcery really sells the unrefined street brawling aesthetic Shinada’s style is going for.

Shinada actually feels like a real life street fighter. He uses random techniques. Some made up. He uses grappling. In a way, he is a bigger street fighter than Kiryu. And a actual Street Fighter than 90% of the chars from Street Fighter.

Shinada's main selling point his weapon skills. He has unique attack patterns with weapons and his abilities focuses on them. But if you want to fight unarmed with him just drink some booze as it will increase the attack damage of his attack if you get the proper skill. It must be a soul skill. Also you if you open his mid combo grab he will give some crazy damage. he does not have any insta damage attacks but his style focuses on pinning down the enemy. Also he got eye frames during some of his moves.
I agree, tanimura relies way too much on parries and his parry effect doesn't last long enough, also (correct if I'm wrong) I feel like he doesn't get I-Frames when parrying

I have a theory that Shinada is more a fighter who win in resistance. Well, he's a begginer fighter, so he don't have much experience on that, but he's a baseball player, so he might have a good resistance, that what make him win the fights (sorry if my english is little broke, I am brazilian)
Tanimura if he was a jackass with 0 combat experience and didn't have his throw cheese to save him(deadass, if you play Yakuza 4 and get to throw someone as Tanimura you will not only be in for one of the longest animations of you're life but also one that deals decent damage to other enemies if they get too close and also has damn near if not 100% invincibility frames the entire animation and also can be done out of or into a heat action for more damage. Just like Shinada, you almost never want Tanimura unarmed cause his fighting style is weird. But he does have a parry, grab cheese, and his existence leads to heat actions for days which is a bit of a saving grace. Ive never played any game in the Yakuza series but watching no damage community makes it look fun cause they find ways to break the games wide open with some cheese and thats what I live for when it comes to games)

Sort of; it's not so much a counter in comparison to the Tiger Drop or even Akiyama's Counter Kick, rather he just moves behind the enemy to grab them. So overall, yesn't.
I'm convinced the board meeting was like "Okay, we brought back Akiyama and Saejima and playing with them is great.... now how can we torture the player a bit?"
I actually hated this portion of the game. I dislike how long the fights can take and how repetitive it could get. Kiryu, Saejima, and Akiyama let me wipe the floor with trash mobs in 15 seconds yet with Shinada it took as long as 1 minute 30.
It’s not weird... you just don’t use him right. Grab at the end of combos. Use weapons with heat. Mix up when you grab, etc: It seems like all you know is 3 squares, triangle. 🤦🏻♂️ So much combat depth in Yakuza games... but, people play like it’s Dynasty Warriors.

Just like Shinada, you almost never want Tanimura unarmed cause his fighting style is weird. But he does have a parry, grab cheese, and his existence leads to heat actions for days which is a bit of a saving grace. Ive never played any game in the Yakuza series but watching no damage community makes it look fun cause they find ways to break the games wide open with some cheese and thats what I live for when it comes to games)

@@PopeTheRevXXVIII I've never played Yakuza. I heard mixed reviews on both him and Shinada saying you almost always want some form of weapon in their hands at all times.
Unlike Kiryu, Saejima, Akiyama or Tanimura, Shinada doesn't have any contact whatsoever with yakuza or criminals in general, he's just a baseball player that randomly got assaulted on the street and is trying his best not to get his ass kick

Sort of; it's not so much a counter in comparison to the Tiger Drop or even Akiyama's Counter Kick, rather he just moves behind the enemy to grab them.
So overall, yesn't.
Well atleast he has the best physique among all the prots

I actually hated this portion of the game. I dislike how long the fights can take and how repetitive it could get. Kiryu, Saejima, and Akiyama let me wipe the floor with trash mobs in 15 seconds yet with Shinada it took as long as 1 minute 30.
I did at first when I played it on PS3 but after playing the rest of the series and Yakuza 3 I've grown to love and appreciate Shinada

It’s not weird... you just don’t use him right. Grab at the end of combos. Use weapons with heat. Mix up when you grab, etc:
It seems like all you know is 3 squares, triangle. 🤦🏻♂️ So much combat depth in Yakuza games... but, people play like it’s Dynasty Warriors.

Once ypu get good with shinada and tanimura they really are beasts its just not like kiryu or saejima where you just mash buttons
