Well now I know what's coming up. I just picked up a 2003 and 28000 mi. I'm going to go ahead and do it all. Mine has a little bit of clutch basket clatter but I'm getting good at earplugs for that

Perfect example of how a service video should be. Descriptive on where everything is. Straight to the point without getting all Nancy about your feelings about what color the top screws are. Great video man. I myself have a 2003 K1200RS and this video was helpful. Im due for a cam chain tensioner fix.

Lovely example. This k engined bikes is in my humble opinion, one of the best bmw bikes made. They're like aircraft engineering. Rock solid but only pain is doing the clutch if ever.......she'll run a lifetime. Thanks for your post. Andre RSA

When you're at that point you should also do the crank case vent tube. Big job to get to for a little rubber hose.

Good job. I bought my K1200RS 2000 new and it has been sitting for about five years. I had done fluid and brakes but not clutch. Fuel hoses and quick disconnects I'm changing. Had solid connectors hell to get loose. Good tip on radiator fluid. Thanks for making vid. Man that gearbox drain was something. Walmart may have put it on. All good

Anyone know how many connections are standard on the battery terminal? I have a k1200 RS 2003...seems like 3/4 extra wires are connected to the battery....flashing rear light is one of them that I want to get rid of and I rather not do trial and error to figure out what's stock.

2:36 great video gives a good onceover of the things to look for and the layout. I have a 1985 K100 & 1993 K1100. I suggest checking and lubing the splines as well.

Perfect video. Thanks for the close ups and clear narration. Do these need to have the rear main seal done?

I would say, only if it is leaking really bad, and it bothers you greatly. It is a huge job requiring removal of rear wheel, swing arm, and transmission, special tools needed also, or let dealer do it for more than a 1000.00 probably Only use conventional oil 10-40 or 20-50. Mine is still dry and I use 10-40 conventional oil of most any brand. This is one of my pre-buy inspection items for sure.

Can you recommend a resource on how to properly bleed the brake system on your bike. I just purchased your exact same bike with the brembo brake system and I read that it's a little bit easier to bleed than the servo assisted ones. Thank you for posting such a great video. I would be interested to see how you install that gas line quick disconnect system.

The only thing I would recommend is a K1200rs brake bleed video, I'm sure there are some, indeed relatively easy. Try illinois BMW riders with Kirk Johnson, he does K1200lt vids but it is the same system. ua-cam.com/video/X1QKP48tQ5M/v-deo.html

I just got a 1200rs and it’s been stripped for the track. No lights, all the wires have been cut. I have no idea how to splice wires nor do I know which one goes where! But I got the bike for free. Maybe you can do a video on all the brake light cables and headlight cables?? Anyways, thanks for the vid!

I have a problem with my 199 K1200RS that I purchased during Covid in 2020. The previous owner (only owner prior to me) had a work accident in the year 2000 & only clocked up 12.5K on the bike & has been unable to ride it since the accident! I purchased it & had it freighted to me & it was a great bike to ride. Unfortunately, I now live on a farm in NSW (OZ) & due to the huge amount of rain & the 8 klm's of dirt road, I have only put a thousand klm's on it. the weather has changed & we have had the road repaired, so I stripped the fuel tank & all associated parts down, replaced those parts needing it & after putting it back together, I have 1 electrical connection that doesn't seem to go anywhere! I didn't take photos because I thought I was so smart & now I don't know where it should go!!!! I have the manual, but its photos are pretty basic & are no help! Can you help out with any info on the electrical connections surrounding the throttle body, Injectors etc.?

Photos would help for sure, the only thing I can think of is that the harness has a connector perhaps for cruise control. If your bike does not have cruise control the connector has nothing to connect to so it is left hanging, really don't know for sure.

Hi, please, I've bought a BMW K 1200 RS 2005 96kw machine and I'm having a bit of trouble finding the service manual and I need to know what oils I need to replace. Could you advise me and specify and possibly supplement with a specific product? Some sources say that the same oil can be used for both the drive shaft and the gearbox, while others say otherwise. I'm confused about that.
    1. Engine oil
    2. Oil for the drive shaft
    3. Oil for the gearbox
Also, I have a few additional questions:
    4. What coolant do you use?
    5. Air filter
    6. Brake fluid
    7. Spark plugs
    Thanks a lot.
    BTW. thanks for the video!!!

Need to replace all brake hoses for stainless braided, the black rubber ones collapse internally

    • @dannyj1969

Hey Nick, thanks for the recommendation, subsequent to posting this video I did order and replace the rubber lines with braided steel lines. Combined with the new brake fluid flush the brakes are excellent now. I would say they are on par with power assisted brakes now. Might do a quick video on that now!

Replace your lamps? Are LED’s available?

They tend to leak with full synthetic oil. Better to go at least semi synth on the engine.

Like Andre Strydom said, you have one of the best BMW's ever made. Mine (my 2nd) is from August 1999 with +120.000K on it and it still runs perfectly and still is beautifull. (Always parked in my garage does help)
The only real issue was my clutch that slipped caused by an o-ring wich was hardened out so the oil came in the clutch area.
My speedometer is fixed twice and that's all.
    Still rides like a beauty.
(My first 1200K had a crank bearing issue after 12.000K. BMW fixed this under warranty.)
    Yours looks stunning new btw.

Did you have your clutch replaced by a shop? Mine ('04 K1200GT) is starting to slip. Taking it in would cost about as much as the bike is now worth. I'm seriously considering doing it myself, but it's a huge tear-down.

Bought a 1999 BMW K1200RS 3/2021 and after riding all last summer and the start of this... I'm thinking WTF was I thinking :(! I don't have a garage, the smarts and or the tools to even do a freaking oil change. Gotta take hours just to pull the gosh-forsaken fairings :(.
Anyone with the skills, brains or money to pay others for service... I'd like to get rid of this bike and buy a scooter w/ no fairings :)

How many quarts of oil does it take in the crankcase?

    • @dannyj1969
      @dannyj1969  Рік тому

The manual states 3.75L with a filter, so, 4 quarts usually 10w40 or 20w50, I use the 10w40 because 20w50 is really viscous around 32 degrees and lower

Bike looks great! I have a 2001 silver/blue. What size rear tire is that?

    • @dannyj1969

Hi, thx for viewing. Tire is stock size 170/60/17, kinda looks bigger in the video.
