I just commented and then glanced down and saw your comment about CeraVe Healing Ointment. I’ve been using it for a couple of years, on advice from my dermatologist, and I agree with you 100%! I also apply this a couple of hours before I actually get to bed and have had no issues with it getting on my pillows. I also use it on my cheeks where I have redness due to rosacea. I started doing this method since you posted the video. Great results with more hydration and less hallowed. Thank you Wayne. Congratulations on your marriage 🎉
I’ve been using this technique for YEARS! I use un petroleum jelly!! It’s not irradiating to the eyes at all and I use it every night! Thanks for sharing Wayne ♥️♥️♥️
I was shocked to find out this had a name (slugging), I've been doing it since my early thirties (I'm 44 soon) I do it about an hour before bed. Sometimes two, and it saves a bit of mess on the pillowcases. My grandmother used the technique.. I'd watch her do her skin care routine when I was a wee whipper-snapper!
One of the many reasons I will always prefer your videos to other influencers (beyond the fact you have experience and qualifications to back up your knowledge) is that you always explain to limit things. I used to do slugging every night, but ended up with milia around my eyes because my skin couldn’t handle the occlusivity all the time. It sounds silly but it never occurred to me to limit this, I just thought it wasn’t for me.
@@laundrybasket2689 vaseline is an occlusive. occlusive (plural occlusives) (phonetics) A phoneme produced by obstructing airflow in the vocal tract, but not necessarily in the nasal tract. (cosmetics) A product that forms a protective film and traps moisture against the skin.
I’ve had deep under eye wrinkles and very dark circles since I was a child, doctors said it was caused from allergies. Either way, it’s hard to find real advice that can work for young people with deep wrinkles but not overall mature or softer skin. Not sure if this will help since I’ve had these deep wrinkles for forever, but I can’t wait to try this technique tonight! Thank you Wayne!! 💕
Instead of vaseline, I've been using whipped shea butter on a nightly basis. They're both classed as occlusives, but shea butter is a more natural alternative to vaseline. (I'm not a fan of petroleum jelly).
I've been following you for many years now and have seen your ups and downs. I just want to say how happy you look, and I'm also very happy for you. Life is too short to sweat the small stuff. Have a great week.
Loved this 😊! part two of this tip is super important, as too much congestion can lead to irritation or milia (Also known as the random bumps that may sort of send me crazy lol). Best tip to remain consistent is choose two days. Either the two days in prep for the weekend, the weekend in prep for the week, or as a mini prep for both by applying on the night before both (typically Thursday and Sunday). Seeing benefits in skincare is all about consistency, and Wayne Goss style in true to form consistency is that “less is more” 🌼😊🌼
@@laura_sotomayor milia are like small keratin cysts, so fastest way to remove them would be at a dermatologist office via laser or extraction. AHAs and retinoids help exfoliate and break them down, tretanoin clears mine pretty quick, but because I only occasionally get one or two near my eye, I’ll use a cotton stick to only apply a small bit on it
@@collettchaney120 depends what you mean by ‘baggy’? Loose skin, discolouration, puffiness, or maybe allergies or a combination? The skin around the eye is only about a quarter of the thickness of the skin on the larger areas of your face, so it is always better to treat it more delicately. there is a period of adjustment with products like tretinoin, which is essentially designed to speed up skin cell turnover, that will enhance skin sensitivity, it doesn’t last forever and generally has positive effects on all the other concerns that may cause a baggy appearance to the eye area. But...nothing works if you don’t protect the area with sunscreen. Sunlight is pretty dam good at causing all the problems we associate with baggy eyes
@@janabeckman545 aquaphor is also mostly petroleum jelly. But he said this technique is only supposed to be used a couple times a week anyway, so it should be fine. :)

My grandmother used Vaseline on the farm/ raising her turkeys. She said grandpa didn’t like the Vaseline on her face very much… but she still used it always (lol) She live 100 years 1900-2000 and her skin was unbelievably amazing all her life right up till her passing. All us granddaughters prayed for her skin. You are helping me care for my skin that grandma gave me and I thank you friend🙏🏻
I have used Vaseline for 60+ years and always looked 20 years younger than my age. However, I switched to the vaseline with coco butter a few years ago and now I look 20 years older than my age. I'm just devastated and actually shocked. My face has wrinkled so much it's pitiful.
Oh no! Every line & wrinkle tells a story, holds a memory or emotions. It’s your life story! Learn to love it all. I’m an artist and find a weathered face is the most beautiful to photograph 🌸
This is one of your best tips! My under eye area is my main issue. Circles, dryness and slight puffiness. But, your great advice has helped - especially with hydration, which I needed. Thank you!
“Your pillows get vile.” I don’t know why I found that so funny! Anyway, thanks for this trick, and HUGE CONGRATS to you and your husband! May you enjoy many, many years of non-vile pillows together. 💖💖💖
Hi Wayne, my mum taught me to do this technique over 50 years ago! I also do it on my neck area and back of my hands when I remember. Thank you for the wonderful tips.
i just started doing this 2 weeks ago and it has repaired my undereyes so well! i use cerave ointment over an eye cream and then oil on damp undereyes. i had chapped, dry undereyes from too much skincare and this method saved them!
I've been a fan of slugging for quite a while, and I notice a major difference in my skin when I do this regularly (as opposed to getting super lazy and saying "Nope, too tired tonight".) I do slug my whole face; English grandmother on one side, Swedish on the other; so flawless skin, but so dry all the time that it just loses moisture like the surface of Mars. I have to admit I nearly had a heart attack when I saw how much undereye cream you used (lol). But that's by the way. I do want to say that I alternate between Vaseline and Nivea (in the blue tube/jar) for slugging. Nivea has the same ingredients as La Mer, but is affordable, and also women who've used it for years have lovely skin.
It's a complete different formula and you can't compare them in any way, I know the Nivea for a long time, and my trusty LA Mer the Cream, is just a hole other world, sry!;)
Short, sweet, and to the point! Thank you so much for the information. I love shorter videos like yours! It makes my life so much easier. Many blessings to you!
I've been applying Vaseline on my dark circles for 4 years now, I've found that it works best right after applying an under eye cream or moisturizer if you use it on other areas of your face as well. I didn't know about this tip, but I just found it worked for me, so I continued with this routine. Another important area is the lips and the area around the lips. If you apply a thin layer, your lips will be soft and healed from any chapping and dryness in the morning. I very often apply a thin layer of Vaseline before lipstick. The key is not to overdo it, so apply in a very thin layer. It is especially important to use petroleum jelly in winter, because it creates a barrier and protects your skin from the cold.
I do this all the time! It makes my under eyes look great! Tip- You can use Aquafor, Cerave Healing Ointment, or Vaseline! Anything that has a petrolatum base!
Wayne, this is yet another smart video! My grandmom used to swear by vaseline on her face. Hands too at night. She would massage it in until it was gone She looked wonderful and had very young hands!

When I Googled Retinol Cream it said to store it in the refrigerator. I am doing something I saw on the internet where I do the following…..Day One- exfoliate with oil mixed with baking soda. Day 2- wash face let dry for 10 minutes then apply retinol cream. Days 3&4 Wash face as you normally would then repeat the cycle all over again. Before I only used to exfoliate once a week but I have seen a dramatic improvement by doing this cycle with the retinol cream. THANK YOU GREAT VIDEO !
Hello Wayne. Greetings from Spain. I'm glad you recommend this technique for smothering the skin under the eyes too because I was already using to prevent my concealer from creasing.
I've never even heard of this! Thank you! You're my lifeline to the world of skin care and makeup. I get too overwhelmed by going to the store. I literally had to call my husband to help me out of Sephora because it was too much. LOL.
Oh, definitely going to try this! Been so frustrated with my skin as I'm nearing 50, between the lines and dryness it's pretty upsetting. The under eye area has definitely been a source of frustration so I'm going to try this to help that area stay moisturized and hopefully younger looking! Thanks! 🙂
Castor oil rubbed into skin covered with vaseline at night. I'm telling you, try it for 30 days. It even tightens skin around eyes and makes hooded eyes less hooded
I Hope this reduces the puffiness and dryness, no matter how many different products I try I just cannot get rid of ! Thankyou for this tip Wayne and Congratulations ❤ Bloody lovely xx
I just turned 64, been living a very reclusive life, stopped doing any skincare and wearing makeup for 20+ years. That being said, I'm starting to get back into both and wondering if doing either hacks would be too soon for me to start. I only trust you to answer this, truly I do! Congratulations on your marriage. I wish you both all of life's happiness it will bring!
I'm 52 and I use no cream at all for my face. Just natrual cosmetics facial toner. My favourite is even very cheap one by German drugstore brand Alverde but I also like Weleda. Been doing this for many years and all my issues with dry skin stopped when I stopped using creams. I'm very happy with my skin, it's healthy, smooth and unwrinkled 🙂 Try to put as little stuff as possible in your face when you have skin troubles.
I've been away from UA-cam too long. Reading the comments I see u got married. Congrats!! Only good thing missing so much, now I can go binge everything I've missed. I can't wait to try this tip tonight. Thank you, ❤️
This is exactly what I’ve been doing. In the mornings, after powder, I take just the smallest amount of Vaseline or face oil and tap it under my eyes. No more creasing and no dry under eyes after makeup application
@@a_bookish_gemini Please remember, I am not slugging. I am using the tiniest bit and rubbed between two fingers. For those of us with wrinkles under our eyes, the powder can make them look even worse and chalky. This just rehydrates that area. I have found that I don’t lose any coverage at all but my eyes look much more youthful
Covid gave me the gift of huge puffy under eye bags. I have used 8 to 10 different brands of creams that say they reduce eye puffiness and not one single one has worked, and in fact, they make it worse. I came up with a kind of nutty idea last week of using egg whites under my eyes after washing my face, and before using any other make up. And it definitely tightened up the bags. I don’t rinse it off. It does not make them go away, but it works much better than all the creams I tried I don’t put make up on top of the bags after I put the egg whites on. And I don’t wash off my eyes afterwards. I’ve been doing this morning and night, and as I said, it works so much better than any of the other expensive creams I have tried.
This technique is fabulous for dry skin, but watch out if you have oily skin/milia bumps cause adding vaseline will make it worse. Thanks for the videos Wayne!
Thank you Wayne, I've been trying this and I love it! I also wanted to congratulate you on your wedding! I wish you a lifetime of love happiness and abundant joy!!❤
OMG, I love this. I'am 62 years old and my under eyes are not that bad but if this makes a difference, I will start this tonight and do it few times a week. As always, you give us so much usefull information. Thank you so much.
Thank you for the demo! I wasn't sure about slugging but I will try it. What I also love is that you aren't recommending a $30 balm to put over the eye cream, which I have seen and was considering but I'm on a tight budget now. You're the best! xx
I will definitely try this tonight. Look forward to seeing even better results. I just want to say that you look wonderfully content and peaceful. Congratulations and cheers to a very happy future. Thanks for all you do for this community.
I do this and also have gotten reusable silicone patches from Pacifica (also a forehead patch) and I sleep with those. It really helps having an sleep eye mask to hold things in with no issues. The forehead patch truly helped with my forehead wrinkles
Once again I totally agree with you. I have to say that instead of Vaseline I use CeraVe Healing Ointment (on advice from my dermatologist). I use the Healing Ointment in the rosacea prone or red areas of my face too and it’s fantastic! I have very dry skin and having rosacea makes it even worse. You do have to be careful not to get the ointment into your eye when applying and a little goes a long way.

@@cindybarraco5815 You look amazing for 60!!! i would've never guessed!! you r literally shitting on 60 girl!!❤❤❤
I started doing this method since you posted the video. Great results with more hydration and less hallowed. Thank you Wayne. Congratulations on your marriage 🎉
It’s ok to apply Vaseline after retinol? Or I have to put on my face first retinol, moisturizer and after that vaseline???
I’ve been using this technique for YEARS! I use un petroleum jelly!! It’s not irradiating to the eyes at all and I use it every night! Thanks for sharing Wayne ♥️♥️♥️
I was shocked to find out this had a name (slugging), I've been doing it since my early thirties (I'm 44 soon)
I do it about an hour before bed. Sometimes two, and it saves a bit of mess on the pillowcases.
My grandmother used the technique.. I'd watch her do her skin care routine when I was a wee whipper-snapper!
I've been using coconut oil for a few years now. And honestly I think it works better than any creams or serums.
Occlusive... occlusivity. 😉
@@DebbieTDP thanks 🥰
@@emmaking5361 at last someone that didn't get offended about a correction....💙🙏🏻
Sorry but what is occlusive? I have had a bit of milia under one of my eyes since I was in my 20’s and I still have it at 40.
Dark circles are genetic not allergies.
@@screamtoasigh9984 Not according to several doctors that have seen my eyes in person and know my medical history.
Could be related to dairy, gluten, sugar, caffeine.
@@chrishnah No, that wouldn’t make any sense since my eating habits change frequently. I do not need a further diagnosis, my doctor has it covered.
@@Karli841 haha whatever dude
Instead of vaseline, I've been using whipped shea butter on a nightly basis. They're both classed as occlusives, but shea butter is a more natural alternative to vaseline.
(I'm not a fan of petroleum jelly).
Brilliant! In full agreement.
I love petroleum jelly. Shea always irritates my eyes!
I've been following you for many years now and have seen your ups and downs. I just want to say how happy you look, and I'm also very happy for you. Life is too short to sweat the small stuff. Have a great week.
We love him, don’t we? He is so sweet!!!!!! Vulnerable and REAL.
My mom, (R.I.P.) did that w/lotion and Vaseline on her very beautiful legs for decades.
Truly works!
Seeing benefits in skincare is all about consistency, and Wayne Goss style in true to form consistency is that “less is more” 🌼😊🌼
Is there a way to get rid of those random bumps?
@@laura_sotomayor milia are like small keratin cysts, so fastest way to remove them would be at a dermatologist office via laser or extraction. AHAs and retinoids help exfoliate and break them down, tretanoin clears mine pretty quick, but because I only occasionally get one or two near my eye, I’ll use a cotton stick to only apply a small bit on it
Does this not make baggy eyes even worse?

I have been slugging everyday now with aquaphor . It’s fantastic. Love your content!!
I was just about to tell every one to use Aquaphor! I have the big tub of it, lol.
I was thinking aquaphor. Petroleum jelly would clog the pores
@@janabeckman545 aquaphor is also mostly petroleum jelly. But he said this technique is only supposed to be used a couple times a week anyway, so it should be fine. :)
What about the vaseline in the morning, does it have to be removed or has it disappeared by then.
Greetings from Germany
Brigitte
Nivea blue tin (German) Amazing for under the eyes!! Use after eye cream. Many UA-cam videos comparing it with "La Mer" has many same ingredients.
My grandma taught me about slugging before she died and her skin was always gorgeous ❤
Hi .What’s slugging?
@@humahussain8586 Applying Vaseline over your eye cream to seal it.
My grammie did too! She didn't call it slugging, she didn't call it anything really she just did it. She also used Ponds cold cream to remove her pancake makeup and her skin was like glass.
My mom used Albolene Cream at night even when she wasn't wearing makeup. Her face was remarkably smooth for someone who smoked 2 packs a day and lived on coffee and sugar for 70+ years. I follow her skincare routines, but none of the rest...! Thanks for your honesty and enthusiasm, Wayne!
@@MyCleverHandle Wow!!!! I gotta try your moms technique with the Albolene cream at night before bed! I wanna look great at 70 too!! Is there any other step she does with this cream?? Thank you so much in advance!!🙋♀️💕💕
This is such a coincidence - I was only looking up about slugging this morning but wasn't sure whether to do it. And then, Wayne, you mention it, which is good enough for me!
My grandmother used Vaseline on the farm/ raising her turkeys. She said grandpa didn’t like the Vaseline on her face very much… but she still used it always (lol)
She live 100 years 1900-2000 and her skin was unbelievably amazing all her life right up till her passing.
@@casual454t1 just curious, so why didn't you discontinue it and go back to the regular Vaseline.
This is one of your best tips! My under eye area is my main issue. Circles, dryness and slight puffiness. But, your great advice has helped - especially with hydration, which I needed. Thank you!
Hello Wayne. You're getting more gorgeous every day. Enjoy life and remember that you have love to live for.❤
“Your pillows get vile.” I don’t know why I found that so funny! Anyway, thanks for this trick, and HUGE CONGRATS to you and your husband! May you enjoy many, many years of non-vile pillows together. 💖💖💖
Wayne, you look great. I used to follow you years ago. You and Lisa Eldridge are my favorite makeup artists.
I’m going to try it! I tried your eye bag shading tip and it worked great. Thanks!
Slugging has saved me this winter. Thank you!!
Hi Wayne, my mum taught me to do this technique over 50 years ago! I also do it on my neck area and back of my hands when I remember. Thank you for the wonderful tips.
How long does it take 2 absorb into your skin.xx
Does it work?..
@@pathepburn9900 Hi Pat, in my opinion yes it does.
@@debraraby4376 oh, thankyou for replying. Must give it a go anyway. 🙂💜
i just started doing this 2 weeks ago and it has repaired my undereyes so well! i use cerave ointment over an eye cream and then oil on damp undereyes. i had chapped, dry undereyes from too much skincare and this method saved them!
Amen to hating the long intros!!! Thanks Wayne and congrats on your marriage ❤❤
Love you videos. Simply, short and straight to the point. Thank you.
OH WAYNE I JUST LOVE YOUR EASY TRICKS AND TIPS. U ROCK!! WENDY FROM SOUTH AFRICA ❤
I love you so much Wayne. You were my first makeup mentor and I’m so grateful you came into my path. I admire you and the wisdom you teach us.
I use this technic from long time but instead of using Vaseline I’m using pure lanolin 😊 results are stunning 🤩
Lanolin is way better I think. I use it for my lips too.
Wayne, thank you so much for this tip! I tried it last night and woke up this morning with bright moisturised under eyes! You're a 🌟❤
Hello Wayne. Greetings from Spain. I'm glad you recommend this technique for smothering the skin under the eyes too because I was already using to prevent my concealer from creasing.
Thank you for this post. And Congratulations on your wedding! ❤️
I've never even heard of this! Thank you! You're my lifeline to the world of skin care and makeup. I get too overwhelmed by going to the store. I literally had to call my husband to help me out of Sephora because it was too much. LOL.
Hi from Brazil. I am doing this a couple of days a week. I can say, its works. Thanks for this video.
I just saw this and I am so excited to try this tonight! You have me so very optimistic right now…THANK YOU❤ i can’t wait to see the results!!

Love this Wayne. Love your tutorials, nothing false about you. You're genuine, a top guy & teach us so much great stuff. Thank you. xx
I was applying vaseline after putting the eye cream in without knowing! I now feel wonderful. Thank you so much.
Never too soon to start.
Congrats on getting married! 🎉
I’m apprehensive about using Vaseline on my face, but I’m going to try it a couple times a week and see how it goes.
I always used to think Vaseline would be a no-no, but I've seen lots of dermatologists touting it lately. I'm going to try it too.
I’m curious, what’s the point of the powder if you’re then putting Vaseline on top?!
So not powder over Vaseline
@@dnrmoore4124 Nope. Just a very tiny amount over. It also helps to reflect the light under the eyes. You don’t get that if you powder 😉
@@michelemoline5984 no make-up is even better huh?

I’m using this now because I trust your knowledge. I hope it helps me, I don’t expect a miracle so anything will be good. Thanks.
Great tip and I like how you get straight to the point with no fluff 👍🏻
Once again darlin', you have given us something wonderful to do with our faces besides smiling 😘
This technique is fabulous for dry skin, but watch out if you have oily skin/milia bumps cause adding vaseline will make it worse. Thanks for the videos Wayne!
Wash your face with neutrogena soap, It's good for the skin.
This is a fantastic tip Wayne, thank you very much. 🥰 Can shea butter be used instead of vaseline?
Thank you Wayne, I've been trying this and I love it! I also wanted to congratulate you on your wedding! I wish you a lifetime of love happiness and abundant joy!!❤

Thank you for the demo! I wasn't sure about slugging but I will try it. What I also love is that you aren't recommending a $30 balm to put over the eye cream, which I have seen and was considering but I'm on a tight budget now. You're the best! xx
