You're basically forced to colonize the nigeria area and sphere Brazil+Egypt if you want to have a good late game economy since EVERYTHING uses rubber. The problem with China is that well your population is far too large. The game was not balanced for an unified westernized China and so you literally don't have enough RGOs to feed the chinese industrial complex. An unified China in 1854 alone has more than 90 million pops, wich is basically all the GPs in 1836 COMBINED. No, really, an united China has 90 million pops while every single GP combined only has 82 in 1836. Your populations is monumental, just gigantic. China is a natural GP. The only reason it often doesn't become one is because the AI is mentally ill. Any half decent player can make it into the 1st GP. Its army ALONE can do that

your military score is determined by your army size, number of leaders, and capital ships. China can bulid a massive army right at the start of the game so your military score is already high from the start. Subsidizing industry doesnt help with military score but if certain military goods you are producing aren't making a profit you should subside the industry when you are at war.

Besides Reactionaries and the Taiping rebellion, you have not much in the way of westernizing and that goes pretty fast (military missions from the West, 4% Clergy for maximum education and 1860-1870 you are westernized, which means in 1890 you are extrem strong and can just smack the west easy

The heavenly kingdom is actually "better" than the Qing because they have 2 of the major chinese cultures, beifaren and nanfaren, unlike the Qing that have only one+manchu (just 5%)

Unified China, conquered Japan and Mongolia and then I had like 4 wars of "Containing China" against the UK and Germany and everyone else lol, I stopped them but there were so many like 80/100 brigadesx30 stacks invading and all I had were peasants. Anyway, moving forward to 1930 I reached the Urals, conquered Persia, India, Afghanistan and Siberia. But the game got so laggy and my laptop is so shit (4gb RAM, Dual Core) that I couldn't play anymore without the game crashing. It was insane I could recruit more than 4K Brigades, had 10K naval points and pretty much produced 100% of all war materials, I didnt need to mobilize anymore.
