That's a great recommendation, And a good overview. I like all the illustrations for the lightening, and that theory.

Good breakdown thanks. Professional painters only really started talking about volumes in the last handful of years or so, something they’ve been using to add mystique to what they do. Volumes etc have been around for centuries, but the technical language of painting in our hobby has changed far more recently and I’m not sure why, other than to elevate what professionals in the hobby try to do to engender buying in to Patreon etc. this book sounds like a great gateway in to understanding the theory along with other painting education topics. Nice one!

You're definitely right with that, 'rebranding'. NMM has been around since canvas painters. And it's just using volumes with extra steps. The same with slapchop which is just a simple form of underpainting. Most people learn to paint via the 'Eavy metal way. So anything outside of that is seen as 'new'. There are painters who have used traditional techniques for years like victoria Lamb. I think the Spanish and European mini painters are the best to learn from since they talk about the theory side more and how to apply all of this across your minis. Instead of focusing on just one mini one tutorial approaches.

I was considering the F.A.Q. book but I think you convinced me on Figopedia instead. The one thing I want to get out of these books is how lighting works and by the illustrations alone I feel like I can get good use out of this. Colour theory too. It's also half the price of F.A.Q.

The FAQ book is a useful tool but I got alot more use out of this one tbh. It feels more straightforward and easier to follow. The examples are really helpful too. Ta for watching.
