Glad you're back. Your channel is nicely mellow to spend time with you both as you go about your tasks. Wow, what a view. My 93 old Mother refers to your vlog as "the man with the hat". Carry on ... Colorado Cherri
What a lovely lunch, and beautiful setting for it. You’ve really made the bathroom much more stylish with those few (relatively)simple additions/processes.
So good to see you back and enjoying your 'warm' weather, not only working on the bathroom. (I love the Stay Curious plate!). Also thanks for showing careful handling of the asbestos roofing material. I lost my father to asbestos exposure and I am sadly shocked at how many people don't take sensible precautions when handling it.
In uk at a previous house we used the bubble wrap on the windows. We however, sprayed the window with soap water then pressed the bubble wrap on to the glass. Smooth it out, the idea is to stick the wrap to the window as flatly as possible, no air pockets. The soapy water provides the seal. It works remarkably well. Certainly made a major difference to our heating bill when we found the trick! It’s nice to see you both back! Onwards and upwards as they say, hopefully you’re both well on the mend. Looking forward to the next episode. ❤
A little trick I learnt, was to use a large nail and poke holes in the rim of the paint can. When cleaning excess paint from the brush, the paint in the rim or lip goes back in the can and allows the lid to make a better seal when closed.
It's so nice to see you two again! What a lovely surprise!! Happy New Year to you both!! The bubble wrap is amazing as a temporary solution for heat loss. Boo on the asbestos, alas, now u know what needs to be done. The sunshine and scenery was lovely as usual. The bathroom is very cheery now. Kudos🫶 Congratulations on being Italian citizens!! Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦🫶
Nice to see you both in yet another great video of your work and progress, and glad to hear you are feeling better. Your bathroom is looking great. Your complementary color choice for the blue tiles was spot on, in my opinion.
thank you! we are very pleased with our colour choice as well. if we'd start from scratch we would not have chosen blue tile but now that they're there and with the new paint they are kind of nice. in a "they have their own personality" kind of way.
However, Henk added you might want to take into account the loss of useful radiation from the sun that would still come in without the bubble wrap, even on a winter's day. You are probably blocking that too now.
daar heeft hij potentieel een punt ;) maar grotendeels zijn dit kamers die we niet gebruiken, en waar de luijken altijd dicht zijn, of kamers op het noorden van het huis waar geen zon komt deze tijd van het jaar.
Hello Happy New Year to you Sorry to hear that you have been ill Your bathroom is looking lovely The drone footage is breathtaking Love to you both Andrew 💐💜xx
Nice to see you back again. I like the way you both work together to reach such good results. The bathroom looks wonderful; the addition of baking soda is intriguing. 🌷
Hi Isis & Bertus🇧🇪🇳🇱🇮🇹,Nice you are back again and well! Nice update Bathroom done and get your other important issues solved so now up to the next challences, amount others the great propperty you were exploring and shered with your followers.Wish you guys all the best.for the comming Year 2024🙏🏻🍀.Greetings.Hubertus 🇳🇱🇳🇴🙏🏻🇮🇹
Welcome back guys I’m so happy for you guys for your residenza in Italia now congratulations 👍🍻🍻🥃🥃🥂🥂🍾👍 I enjoy your videos specially when you do work outside because the fenomenal and panoramic view thanks for sharing cheers 🍻🍻
I was thinking yesterday that i haven't seen a video from you for a while I'm sorry to hear that you both had gotten sick glad you are better now I love watching your Videos I hope you get back to normal and feel better.
I meant every word you seem like very good people to me i don't want to see you have any sickness stay in good health so you can enjoy ware you live and what you do.
Welcome back! Big projects take time but when you look back at all the smaller projects, the outcome has been a big success, wouldn't you say! Everything is looking great! Looking forward to seeing the next projects.
Bubble-rap. Please try using 2 sheets of bubble-rap, but when & if you do. The bubble-rap has 2 sides, 1 side is flat & the other has the bubbles. To get the best results, sheet 1 must have the flat side against the window, sheet 2's bubbles must face the other sheet's bubbles i.e. sheet 2 must have the flat side facing the room. What is happening is that where the bubbles are that is what helps prevent the cold coming in. Now test to see if there is any difference. Should you not want to try this & only want to use 1 sheet make sure that the flat side faces the room. what is happening is that there is more air trapped. With the bubbles facing the room only the air in the bubble is preventing the cold coming into the room.
The first time you showed the bathroom I thought the blue subway tiles were attractive. Now you have painted the walls sage to complement them it has made a remarkably appealing transformation. The rad looks great too.
Very glad you are feeling better. You were missed! I love the changes you made to your bathroom. And congratulations on the paperwork! That must feel like a heavy load lifted off you.
Focusing on just the windows with TopDon device only provides cold air infiltration. For another perspective go outside with TopDon and see all the places where heat is escaping.😳😮 I’m glad to see you’re back! Congratulations on feeling better and taking care of all that Admin stuff.
oh yes obviously! lots of warm air is definitaly still escaping through the windows :) bubble wrap of no bubble wrap. but will be interesting to measure that too sometime!
Great work, guys and glad you are feeling better. Loved the scientific before and after on the insulation work. Bathroom design is looking fab, too - love the plates! Well done on all the admin tasks aswell.
I love that sage green colour. It’s a colour we choose for some exterior parts of our last home. It does immediately make the bathroom darker though. It’s a hard colour in such a small space. Did you use the TopDon on the radiator before and after you painted it? You might be surprised how a few layers of paint can affect the transmission of energy from it. Nice repurposing off the ladder. Spring comes so early there. You are blessed.
Happy New Year and I hope that 2024 brings you a blessed, healthy, prosperous year for 2024. Hearing the church chime is beautiful. Beautiful, beautiful views, never tire of it. Congratulations on your residency! The bathroom looks so much better, and your work is always so careful and precise! Hope you both continue to feel well..❤
Thank you so much Andrea! And so far so good, we're getting better every day. It's just a little bit of a lingering cold now. A few more days and we'll be back to normal :-)
yes, definitely - only sometimes it's easier to struggle on with what you have than to run downstairs to get the head torch. (or maybe that is just a neurodivergent thing :-P)
13:02 funny to see.. my italian grandmother had exactly the same tiles and toilet paper insert in the wall ^^ but your bathroom is definitly in a better shape.

There's just something about the slightly bitter taste of radicchio that goes so well with apples and pears. Together with the toasted walnuts it was deliscious. Radicchio is very much in season right now and we've been eating them in all sorts of colours in salads too. When eaten raw they also pair really well with orange or tangerines.
sorry you were sick. Welcome back, another enjoyable vlog. The makeover of the bath looks good. Paint (esp. on the radiator) was a transformation. New Year wishes for peace and prosperity. CH
Welcome back!!! I noticed that you use painter's tape. My experience is that it ages quickly and than becomes very difficult to emove without leaving an adhesive residue
🙋🏻♀️ A perfect place for plates!…Here in Sydney a new park built to compensate for a newly built freeway (!) was open to the public a couple of weeks ago - only to be closed off to the public again because asbestos was found in the mulch. :@. The mulch, of course, has been used in other locations as well …
oh my wow, in the mulch! that is crazy! as our roof is in a good condition still we don't have to immediately replace it, and we would also have the option of painting it in a kind of sealant, but ultimately we want to remove it as we want to demolish part of that warehouse and make it smaller so that it doesn't take away the best view of the Alps from the house.
Have to get one of those cameras. Nice. What kind of tape is used on the bubble wrap? The brown masking tape here in US dries out quickly and is difficult to remove if not removed within a few days. 😀 Eric.
it's a great little tool that camera! it gives pretty detailed info on even small areas where drafts get in etc. also wanted to say thanks for the content you create! we've found it helpful on a number of occasions so far and i'm sure we'll keep coming back to your channel to learn more.

Yes it's a flowering quince! Good to hear that the bubble wrap has worked for you too. the Stay Curious plate was a parting gift from a friend when we moved to Italy.
We're definitely going to insulate better in the future. Probably the first step is going to be the roof/attic floor and double glazing. Blow-in cellulose sounds interesting!

Slow….? Sounds like a lot of progress to me. All that little stuff is a big deal, makes a difference to get all that legality out of the way….well done…😅😊
Hello! I've recently discovered your channel and I enjoy your videos very much! Another channel renovating in Italy, recently did terra cotta tiled floors in traditional manner, had problems with efflorescence. Many other building techniques. It is called aleliermavi Good luck for the upcoming year!
hello guys , as far as asbestos is concerned, there is a safe removal method that has been used throughout Piedmont....paint and then remove the roof...ask for information...I don't think disposal will be a problem, once removed there are companies responsible for safe disposal ,ciao
Yes, we've heard of that! As our roof is still in good condition we will be keeping it for a while longer (it's super convenient) but in a few years we will take it away.
because they are waterproof art :-) we'll be hanging a few antique prints on the wall opposite the mirror, but we're still looking for the right frames.
Mixed feelings! I like the result, but to me it doesn't really resemble lime-wash. The baking soda does make the paint beautifully ultra-matte, so if that’s a look you’re going for this really helps to achieve that. I’ve seen this done by others where the lime-wash look was more obvious, and I think maybe the paint I’ve been using was just a little too thick and opaque. It was a 'total cover in 1 layer' type of paint.
you can't argue taste 😉 it's actually not a dark colour at all, depending on how the light hits (and the name of the shade is "pale green"). for us, this colour is what worked best with what was already there, and not what we would have chosen if we would have started from scratch. however, we do like a little bit of mood and drama in our interiors here and there.
I painted a smallish toilet room a navy blue, it was amazing how the walls almost receded because of an optical illusion of not seeing exactly where the wall was. Sounds weird but it was really nice effect :)@@storiesfromthecascina
Great to have you back, looking forward to your next videos!
So glad that you are back and well now. You were sorely missed! You are getting there. As they say, " life is a journey, enjoy the ride "!
I love the color palette in the bathroom. It reflects the colors of nature outside the window.
Yes, I've thought that so many times while painting the room. Like the sky, and the hills but upside down :-)
Glad you're back. Your channel is nicely mellow to spend time with you both as you go about your tasks. Wow, what a view. My 93 old Mother refers to your vlog as "the man with the hat". Carry on ... Colorado Cherri

Great to see you back😅
Great information regarding heat loss.
Glad it was helpful!
The work seems to be much worse with the cold weather! You guy’s are troopers.

Mylar emergency blankets strung up as curtains help a fair amount. I did that before. It worked pretty well.

❤ That's quite exceptional for this region! It shouldn't be that warm this time of year, but while we have weather like this, best to enjoy it :-)
Nice to see you back. Bathroom is looking good. 🥰
Glad you are back and feeling better! The bathroom is looking good. I just knew that ladder would be for towels. You two are so creative.
that ladder was asking to become a towel rack :-P
Great to see u back…. ❤
It's so nice to see you back. I hope your health continues to improve.
I was happy to see a video from you! I think the two of you could do anything. Everything you do is done so well done! Hope to see you next week.

@storiesfromthecascina I'm happy to hear that! Did you find a circular tray in your travels?
Nice work. Recommend a head torch when painting indoors - works a treat.
yes, definitely - only sometimes it's easier to struggle on with what you have than to run downstairs to get the head torch. (or maybe that is just a neurodivergent thing :-P)
Loved the picture above the clouds with the mountains peaking up what my children called dinosaur country

Happy belated birthday hope you had a great day

that brown radiator was such an eyesore! 😅 so happy with the new colour ❤️

A question; was that shrub you showed, was it a flowering quince?
I must tell you that I took your bubble wrap idea and used it inside my lean-to greenhouse. The greenhouse is attached to our brick wall that was very cold so I used bubble wrap, medium sized bubbles, to cover the brick and it was amazing the difference the bubble wrap made. I did not have a radiant-heat-measurer-thingie but the bubble wrap stopped the cold transference from the brick into the greenhouse. So wow, and thank you for such a useful hack!

the walls are much thinner under the window sills (1/3 or so of the thicknes). we will be insulating there for sure in 2024.
that and the gaps around the windows were closed off with newspaper instead of insulating foam back when they were installed. the big air leak on the tall window is because that window frame is warped (it's nearly a 1cm gap). with old stone houses like ours proper ventilation is also super important to prevent moisture buildup, so we've decided to leave it for now. saves us from having to open the windows every morning in this room 🙃😅

you can't argue taste 😉 it's actually not a dark colour at all, depending on how the light hits (and the name of the shade is "pale green"). for us, this colour is what worked best with what was already there, and not what we would have chosen if we would have started from scratch. however, we do like a little bit of mood and drama in our interiors here and there.
i just realised our previous bathroom was painted nearly black/dark grey 😅
I painted a smallish toilet room a navy blue, it was amazing how the walls almost receded because of an optical illusion of not seeing exactly where the wall was. Sounds weird but it was really nice effect :)@@storiesfromthecascina
