While we were building our house we lived in a rental house that had a font load waster/dryer machine. It was very small, not a top brand and the dryer function was useless. We just stopped using the dryer and hung our laundry on a folding rack inside the house or out on the deck. How I wish that house had the powerful bathroom extractor fans that Usui shows us in every apartment!

I think the only thing I would do differently if I had your space is to get an electric kettle, a mug, a bowl, and a spoon. Then I could have tea or coffee whenever I wanted, or make instant noodles and soups. I would also have to get one more storage bin for under the bed, so that I could have some books and journals, because I can't imagine not writing things on paper ☺

Don't compromise on your bed, Usui. If the bed you have right now is comfortable, don't change it. Changing to something that folds up but comes with a worse mattress isn't going to serve you in the long term. Of course, it's your personal preference as to what kind of bed you like. But don't change to a less comfortable bed.

Немного чувствую клаустрофобию, так как люблю готовить, для меня это часть понятия дома, уюта. Но думаю в Японии качественная еда в общепите. В России я не доверяю такой еде. We can learn from you. I already thought I was a minimalist, but you taught me with this video that I am far from that. One tip: You can use sticky removable hooks. They can even hold 5 kg, so you can hang up small racks with them if you want to store some books. I have never seen staple hooks before, but they might hurt the walls. The food was surprising too because usually they love to eat miso soup on a minimalist diet but you come up with a Hotdog which they call a MOS Burger. Thanks for sharing your perspective! It is inspiring to see how a single person does things differently.

On a more serious note, one thing I really like about japanese toilets is the sink on top of it, so the water you use to wash your hands will be used again the next time you flush your toilet! Super clever!

This tiny apartment is incredibly well-organized! It's amazing how all the necessities fit so perfectly. As a non-cook, I unplugged the fridge long ago, and I only use the stove to reheat some leftover. The nearby McDonald's and convenience store are great for quick meals. I may not be a minimalist, but I've simplified my belongings. I've read Fumio Sasaki's Goodbye Things and totally agree with his philosophy. Cannot wait for your book, good luck!

Thank you for this micro apartment tour and for showcasing some of the products.
I'd love to see more of this type of dwelling in the U.S. Five or more of these units would probably fit in the same floor space as an average American home. It could be a solution to our housing affordability crisis.
The only challenge I'd have is the kitchen because I like to cook at home, but otherwise, I think the space is very livable.
I love Fumio Sasaki's ideas about the entire surrounding city as your personal living space. That was a new idea for me when I read his book...I feel it is the best book on minimalism that I've read. Currently I live off grid in the countryside in a small home, and I think of surrounding nature as my personal living space.

When I visited Japan I really loved the way the cities are built for people walking and bicycling. Small, narrow streets set up with few 'through roads' so the only cars around belonged to the people who live on that street, are visiting there, or delivering supplies to the shops. It was easy to walk anywhere and each little neighbourhood had everything people need - including food, amenities, public buildings, stores, rail transport and buses.
Very different from the Canada and the USA where you usually need a car or bus to do anything. Japanese streets were inconvenient for car traffic and meant you could walk, safely, even in the middle of the road.
Finally, people who live on these narrow streets set up little gardens of flowers, plants, trees, etc., on the roads for the pleasure of everyone. Even if there was no soil - gardens appeared in pots and containers with local shrines sometimes dotted around. Very 'human and humane' cities.
Japanese cities really supported their citizens making a minimalist lifestyle easier and pleasurable.

I wouldn’t want it to be exactly like yours, but I’d like to declutter and see more of my floor! 😀 I also love my huge shower, it’s designed to have space for a shower chair and rails, as I’m disabled, and cannot stand for long. I know that white can make a room feel bigger, but maybe a pop of colour, by using a duvet cover! Then your lazy self would never have to fold and stow it under the bed. On that bedside stand, a table lamp could live. That thing with the toilet paper in elementary school happened to me too! They stopped restocking it because some kids kept clogging the toilets with whole rolls of paper as a prank. Once they stopped stocking it in the restrooms, students then had to tell their teacher what "function" they needed to do, and you got a certain number of squares of toilet paper depending on whether it was "function 1" or "function 2." And often you were having this conversation in front of the WHOLE CLASS! It was so humiliating!

I think, aside from the Murphy bed option, the MUJI bed is the best choice. Lighting is so important. And I’m with you on the “lazy” part. When being minimal, the more you can do without storing things vertically (so you have to move something to get to something you need fairly regularly) is ideal, yes? So the MUJI bed also immediately gives you all the storage space that your bed occupies, width by length, as it is off the ground. I think your choices are wise. Even your in the floor storage - vacuum packed clothes keeps used space to a minimum and that space is the best for things you need but not regularly. Great choices. I’d need a splash of color though. I have two cousins who are color-blind, however; in which case, black and white, for them, is the best if living alone and not wanting to have to establish elaborate systems

I think, your apartment got the perfect size and floor planing.
All the necessities are having their place and it still doesn't look crammed.
You really mastered living a minimalistic life. Thank you very much for showing us.
    Wish you all the best.

I'm always fascinated by your micro-apartment videos. Although my physical health means I couldn't function in a space that small, I love seeing how we can make our lives and spaces simpler. Thank-you for sharing more about your lifestyle and outlook.

I could for sure live like this!! The apartment is so well planned out and efficient. I live in a dorm right now with my own room and bathroom, but I'm sharing a kitchen with the rest of the corridor. My living space is maybe twice as big, but having your own cooking station AND A WASHING MACHINE?! Is SO worth it! 😮❤️ Would take that apartment in a heartbeat 😊

Thank you for sharing the micro apartment phenomenon with us. I'm a Texan who lives in 3100 sq ft house, so the idea of living on a micro level seems very strange. Of course, I have to drive 15 minutes just to get milk and bread, so it's a different circumstance altogether. Anyway I've become a bit obsessed with these videos. 🙃

I always wondered where do you keep your clothes! And now I have the answer. I son't think a micro apartment life it's for me as I love to cook and have nice tableware but I love to see how other people live. The only thing missing to your house in my opinion is a plant friend to keep you company! Thanks for the tour! Also luckily you chose the bed cause i can't imagine sleeping in a hammok or folding bed every night is good for your back

Your minimalist way of life is awesome! I love it. I would put a foldable bed or maybe a sofa converted into a bed. Besides, I would add an electric kettle , a small fridge and some basic things to prepare some tea or coffee or maybe a soup. I think that going out everytime you need something hot or even a cold drink it's a waste of time... that's my humble opinion. Anyway, I love this video, the music and that everything seems so clean and well organized. Congrats. Greetings from Argentina, South America.

Thank you so much for creating this video and showing us your apartment in detail. I've spent months wondering about the fridge, haha. No fridge! I think you should replace your use of the word "lazy" with "efficient." You're efficient and living a true minimalist lifestyle (one I greatly admire and respect). I have a question about the water you store. Is that because you don't like drinking water from the tap or is it a safety measure to prepare for any disaster? I enjoy your gentle humour. As far as furniture, I think the arrangement you have is ideal! Personally I'd like a duvet cover made with coloured cloth but that's just me. Ah yes, Walden (grin) and the Hitchhiker's Guide, great reading there. That's a wonderful washer/dryer you bought. I join the many voices in saying I'd really like to read your book which I assume will be sort of a memoir about your own journey in life and into minimalism. I hope you've watched the Wim Wenders film "Perfect Days." This video of yours reminded me of that film (one I've watched three times).

Pozdrawiam❤😊
