I’m loving your channel and how much work you’re doing on the buildings. I know some UA-camrs worry that their content isn’t so exciting so they move things along but I wanted to tell you that we enjoy watching the details of what you’re doing! I was watching the roof disassembly intently and was sad that there wasnt more of it. It’s really fascinating watching the whole thing so please show more or longer clips of what’s happening. I’ve been watching from the very beginning from America when you had only a few hundred followers. ❤
Man is a lifelong learner, some people want to learn and everything works out for them and here we have a living example, what you touch always comes out. Cats are wonderful🤗. I wish you a good week and beautiful warm weather. Thank you for the video. Greetings and see you👋
Just love the new babies …great job getting on that roof…let us know how your repair work…almost want it to rain , but not..😇🧐 Blessings always, see you next week…✨💖✨🙏
I love how organized your buildings are. You have provided a clean place for everything. Watching all the chateau channels and seeing the disorganization and mess everywhere is very disconcerting. You and your husband make a beautiful team and do expert work.Thank you for sharing.
Great progress with the roof, it's one of those jobs that you can't stop once you take those slates down, but one that is very important to preserve your house. Luckily you found a method that works for the shutters, there are many, many more to keep that assembly line running for a while. Have a wonderful week.❤️
what a nice calm life you live... I am very happy when I see people like you whom are using also the left things and don`t waste it all, very relaxing to watch this progress work from you
It's unfortunate the shutters were so fiddly. I really like the color and hope they turn out well. I admire your positive attitude as you tackle the hard work. Best from the US!
Very interesting turn of events with the paint, but I’m glad that you found a solution. I love the progress on the roof roof. It looks like you guys are going to make it better and more efficient. Good luck with your progress. Nice to see your family and your kitties.
My Sunday morning "dose" of beauty and thoughtfulness and caring for every small step that you take and how it fits into the environment. The drone shots are like a beautiful meditation. Here is to hoping the weather "holds". I am wondering if you use the rooms in this section of the house? I notice the shutters are barely "holding on"?
Thanks for allowing us to share a part of your journey! It gives me so much pleasure and respite from everyday life and gives me impetus to tackle my own obstacles!
Your ability to adapt to a-fluid situation is uncanny. You literally open Pandora’s box with each job you tackle! Thinking on your feet constantly. The house unlocks a new problem at every task you undertake. Nothing is straightforward, you must start a job holding your breath, will we get it done with no extra problems! We wonder every week what secrets the house will give up each time you start a job. On the face of it the chimney leak fix should work🤞🤞let’s hope you don’t have too much rain this week so you can complete the other roofing task! Have a great week❤
Great to see you all again..slow progress. But getting there..I’m still astounded at the amount of rubbish in the roof spaces….Thankyou for sharing🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Those big slates would make a beautiful path or patio. Loved the video as usual. Isis, you and Bertus are real grafters. One little suggestion, when cementing/using lime you can use your hands ( with gloves obviously) to fill an area and then just tidy up with a trowel. Always has worked well for me and helps to save time. No better tool than our hands.
Yes of course! We've been using Ottosson for all our windows too :) The best for the wood is always to strip all the plastic paint but the idea for this project was to be a quick visual improvement 😅
Great job! I really like to watch your progress. But it sometimes hard to follow on what part of the building you are currently working on. So maybe it would be good to explain that a bit in every episode. Just a thought! Keep up the good work!
Such lovely filming and editing with each video! I am enjoying the scenery of one of my favorite parts of the world and well as following your restoration projects! One question/suggestion: have you considered reducing the volume of the machine noises on the edits? Martjin does this for his videos and I'm so grateful to not have to hit mute as often. Have a wonderful week, and thanks for another great video!
Hi Issis & Bertus,I I find it not ysefull to make some comments on the last episodes, However nto day I`m make a litle comment reagarding the Chimmey,if you guys still will use the fireplace on demolis I may recomment you to make a chimmey upgrade,Here in Norway we do get an Chimmey renovator to make a offer for the repalacement with a Staynless steelpipemnin side the Shimmey,so that you are safe pipefire and that what coult be worse.Wish you luck with the Roof restoration.and Im still following your chanel-Greetings,The old Dutch Norwegian Hubertus.
hi hubertus! thank you for your suggestion ❤ we already have a steel pipe in that chimney, so making fire is not a problem, but we would like to not have water leaking into our bedroom wall 😊. The leak doesn't get into the steel tube but is just on the outside of the old smoke channel.
@@storiesfromthecascina I`hope the leak is solved .While you were working ,your securety on the roof with closing the leak was surely safe.well done.👍🏻
Tell us how you learned your skills please. The work you do is such good quality. Also, are the roof rafter’s damaged by insects or water? I enjoy a château restoration in France and they have wood worm damage. Are these a problem in your region too? Lastly, Willie said to tell the kitties hello from their poodle fan. He loved the ending of the video with them in the box enjoying the warmth from your wood stove…so cozy. ❤
We have learned most of what we do by reading, watching and doing. bertus has been working with metal for a long time and i have watched (and helped) my parents renovate and build houses. i studied art and painting + archaeology which comes in handy at times with understanding the different building phases of our house and "reading the walls". in our previous house we diy installed our kitchen, we've done some plastering before and have always decorated our homes ourselves. nothing as big as this but everything we've done and learned before is finding its way into this project. 😊😊😊
A lot has happened again this week, and that you dare to go on that high roof isis. I dare to go on the one of our shed too but that is not nearly as high as yours. Since we do not have 2 full floors and an attic.
One of my biggest headaches with renovating my house in Abruzzo is disposing of the construction debris. I’m glad I have only a fraction of what you have.
Lucky indeed! Thanks for sharing your beautiful videos. I find that the work itself takes so much effort that I don’t know how you manage to video and edit as well. I’m glad that you make the effort.
thanks for thinking along ❤ i'm pretty familiar with shellac and am 100% sure it's not shellac. as these are exterior shutters shellac would also be a really poor choice or finish. when dry it looked more like an acrilyc varnish but if it was indeed that it's strange that the stripper and speedheater did not work on it at all. i've heard from other people renovating in italy that they've encountered a similar finish in their homes but i should probably talk to the locals to learn more about what it is.
Last week you replied to me saying the slates at the eaves were no bigger than the tiles when I suggested otherwise. This eve detail is tricky to get right, even when one has been doing it for a long time. Maybe worth getting some skilled help(?)@@storiesfromthecascina
@@whitby910 yes! i remember ❤ but that was a bit of a misunderstanding/language confusion. I thought you meant with your comment from last week the roof slates were big. They are closer to the Alps but where we are not very different from tiles. The row of stones that cap the walls are though, and that's very visible from the outside. 😊
@whitby910 the previous owners of the house were respected builders (as well as farmers) who have been working with stone for a few generations. we are copying exactly what they did on the front of the house. And maybe superlfuous but just in case we didn't make that clear: those big slate stones are not going back onto the wall 😊
When painting windows and doors i have seen people put 2 long screws into top and bottom of the frames so the screws rest on your sawhorses.. you can work on one side then with 2 people holding each end screws flip it over and continue working in other side.. so much quicker as both sides dry at the same rate ua-cam.com/video/gVi9gliFooE/v-deo.htmlsi=fOxxGyGsDLN2SlNK
Why does everything need to be painted. A like colored oil and leave the natural grain come through. You painted that beautiful door with that amazing hand forged hardware. I know its your house but natural is beautiful too.

And we like the cats!
If a house could speak, this one would be so grateful for the TLC you are now providing it.
The house is speaking in a very soft voice because it is old. You must listen more closely.
Yes, they do speak. And breathe.
💕
Iris, takes a special woman to get on the roof. Well done. X

Great work this week, you guys are so calm and steady. Your kitties are so cute, great addition to the family! Stay warm!
It is good to see that Pellicia and Flamella have become friends. Lovely to see Isis’s mother there helping out too.
A joy to watch as you meticulously move about your work spaces. Such thoughtful, quiet attention to detail. Thank you.
I love Bertus’ recaps towards the end of the videos!

Nice that you got lucky with the weather , very brave people to work on height, Not my favorite thing to do while renovating.

If it's really varnish it should dilute well with denatured alcohol. 😊
❤❤❤
You definitely need a moisture meter next time it rains
👍👍👍
I wonder if the shutters were shellaced rather then a true varnish used. Oil based paint cannot penetrate a shellaced surface.

yes we expected to find those 😊 but the leaks are in the (smaller) roof slates, not in the top row of (big) stones/slate on the wall.

at 21:36 did you pull out an ox-yoke? probably goes with the wooden plow from a previous episode. what history you two are finding!!!
yes we did. we have found several around the farm, i think this one was number 3 or 4 😊

Why doesn't no one ever use screens on the outside of their windows to keep out birds, snakes and various critters that can enter your house???
🌟👏👍🍀💐
Wait, where did the second cat come from? What did i miss?
