The amount of concrete used to build those animal troughs in incredible. So nice to see Mr. Velvet venturing into your house. I predict he will be sleeping on your bed by next winter.
It looks so nice with that old porch gone. Your helper friend sounds like he’s from Australia. I love all the beautiful flowers popping up. Hope to see kitty again soon.
You can see why they had the porch there, what a beautiful spot. It's great to see some helping hands, it makes such a difference having friends and family involved with some of those projects. 👍
What a great video! How lovely to have family and friends to help make memories of your home. In years to come that time spent together will become a much treasured talking point. You are never too young to help with diy and gardening! You certainly got stuck into some work this week! I see your bulbs you put around the courtyard are starting to prepare to flower. There’s certainly plenty of flora and fauna putting on a spring display! The amazing amount of birdsong, it’s quite astounding. Removing the porch has made such a difference, it just looks tidier, yet another place to put a bench to sit and have a coffee. You really are very spoilt for where to sit and watch the world go by! ❤
What a difference it made to take off that porch, and I lied seeing your young helper. Good progress with Velluto, slow and steady! Thank you fr your peaceful videos. I love watching them.
The "cantina" looks to be a rare gem just waiting for love. The view from the "patio" is lovely and situated among the trees is just the very best. As for the digging out the floor - wow that will be major. I loved hanging my clothes from the balcony while staying in a small house in Northern Italy--they smelled fresh.
Yeah not looking forward to taking out that floor with a hammer drill! Might need to bring in bigger tools then ;-) Good thing it can wait a few years.
Wonderful to see a little boy bravely helping at work, today's children generally sit staring at their smartphones and get bored, and here's a pleasant surprise. The building immediately looks better without the pergola and with the area cleared. Nature, beautifully awakens to life with many colors, a wonderful sight. Velluto is getting bolder and bolder to look into the house, maybe give him a bowl with something fragrant for the hallway? beautiful cat of him, I hope that soon he will feel at home. Greetings and see you next week.👋🐾🍀🍀🍀
What a difference removing that porch makes, you have achieved great progress on all fronts! Even Velluto is slowly moving closer to acceptance (after recovering from the shock of seeing that , that... DOG being familiar with you). Sending his shadow into your home to test safety and comfort levels was a brave move, now he retreats to consider his options. He already approves your cookery skills and accepts you as good providers, hopefully soon he will accept you as "his" humans.
He seems to be spending more time around the house lately, studying us or just sitting together in the sun - at a safe distance, off course. As soon as any dog comes near he's gone. Can't disagree with him entirely :-P
if he ever lets himself be touched we'll bring him to the vet to check his health and everything but for now he's a free cat and there's little we can do.
As always, whenever you’ve uploaded a video during the week it’s joy to watch. Love the landscape and all that you’ve done and continue to do to make the property your own. Your visual approach and its impact on telling the story are without comparison. Keep it up! ❤❤
I think the house with the rotten porch would make a lovely residence. It is so private in the back where you were mowing. The flowers are so delicate looking. I would never pick them as they are lovely where they are growing. Kitty does not like noise. I laught when she jumped when you hit the wall in the cow barn. She knows to come when you are not making those crazy banging noises. This was a very nice video.
Hi Isis & Bertus🇧🇪🇳🇱Well nice be seeing you with helpers taking own the old rotten porch👍🏻👏,wil be aswel used as firewood, the surroundet aereas looking nice and proper after cleaning up.See you at he next vid🇮🇹🙏🏻-Greetings the old 🇳🇱Dutch 🇳🇴Norwegian,Hubertus🙏🏻🇳🇱🇳🇴☮🍀🇮🇹
Another great video, thank you. So nice to have friends that will come along and help. And the 'Little Forman' trying to get his elders back to work, priceless! Even though you are so busy, I find watching you two working together so relaxing. I must say, I was glad to see the ivy coming down, I hate it! It covers beautiful buildings and trees, and will eventually take over everything, smothering everything in its path! Let the land and trees breath and the buildings show their glory! Sorry about the rant, but it has been building up for quite a while and just took now, watching it come down, to come out. Again, loved the video!
We think he arrived while we were away for the Christmas Holidays. If he had been here all along we probably would have seen him sometime between August and December. :-)
So glad to have found your channel recently. I very much enjoy the slow pace, beautiful landscape, culinary delights, projects, and philosophical meanderings. The spot where that porch was removed is lovely. Does your mom have a timeline for beginnng work on that building's renovation? The potential! Keep up the great work and thank you for sharing your journey with us.
There's no strict timeline, no. A lot will depend on how quickly we will get the green light on the project from the commune and province. But she will be moving over here this spring/summer. Let's hope the buraucratic process won't take too much time :-) Welcome to our channel!
In regard to the height of the old stables, you may be able to get a variance, depending on the use of the room. If it is only occasional use, not permanent habitation I would not worry about it. FIve centimetres is a small difference. Italy has "condoned" entire buildings built without permits...
Thanks for another great video. I had a chuckle when the little lad asked if ‘ you were going to give him a hand or not? Or is he the only one working’. He sounded like a fed up adult 😂. It was lovely to see all of the spring flowers and the different kinds of bees you have. Velluto is such a beautiful cat, and he is definitely gaining confidence in you. I wonder how long before he lets you stroke him? Thanks again, and looking forward to your next update :)
The Cantina looks so different now so much accomplished great job!We just got a foot of snow ❄️ then an ice storm after looks like everything is covered in crystals here in the Mountains 🏔️ of New Hampshire ….Have a blessed week ahead
I cannot get over the beauty of your place! All the flowers and plants budding and blooming on that walk... I would wander for days. I can't help thinking what I would do with a place like that if I were able again. That area around where you took down the pergola had a small trough, probably for animals or something. As you were cleaning I was imagining it as a bubble fountain for bird and wildlife(or the cat), with the newly redone porch and pergola. I love the Italian style! You are so fortunate to have found what you want while still young and healthy. It probably seems overwhelming at times. But what better way to spend your time?
We love seeing and learning about the bees too :-) And yes, there's some lemon balm near the cantina - not exactly in a convenient spot but will see if I can transplant it.
Yes there are ticks, mostly in april-may and especially in tall grass. When we have been working outside we always check for ticks + wearing long pants and showering straight after helps.
Enjoy watching your videos - they are very well done! Question for you - where do you put all the cement rubble and the bramble rubble? Do you bury it somewhere on the property? Burn it? Did I miss that? Thanks!
Hello from Melbourne, Australia :) I have been watching since your very first video and it was a great surprise this week to hear the familiar Aussie accent in your recent guests. I wanted to ask, with such a big project, and so much to do, how do you prioritize your tasks each week? Do you have a plan that you’re following or are you making it up as you go along? Loving your videos, thanks for sharing your journey x
We have a few main goals for every month that we strive towards, but a lot of what we can do also depends on the weather and other things that are partly out of our hands (such as the permission process for renovating in Italy, and the availability of professional tradespeople). I'd say it's a mix of being clear on what has the most urgency and going with the flow. It's rare that anything get's done exactly by the time we had in mind, but in the end it does all get done :-)
Great video,so nice to see spring in Italy and all the flowers you find in the bosco…..will Piemonte not let you get by with that little bit of height difference since it’s an old established building?
no, only when it's already designated residantial space. the stable is agricultural. and when you want to have that changed in the cadaster it needs to comply to the same rules as new construction. it's the same all over italy, not just piemonte, as far as we know :)
Great clean-up. But I do hope you will restore the porch with something similar rustic. And plant a grapevine tree or two. And put a large wooden bench beneath it to enjoy that magnificent view. Perhaps open up that view too by cutting back some withering trees.
When you'll rebuild the roof of the barn, I hope you will do it in stone, as it originally was and as you still can see on the rim of the roof, rather than in clay tiles, which do not really suit this kind of historical building. It will be a bit more expensive, but it is so much nicer and sympathetic to the building tradition of these areas.
We definitely hear you but there are a few reasons why we won't be going that route (even though we agree the stone roofs are absolutely beautiful and something to be preserved when they're there). It's a really interesting and valuable point you're making so I'll take the time to answer in detail ;-) We have friends nearby who were lucky enough to have the stone roof still in place and they have restored it beautifully. However, even when all the stone tiles are still there, it's much more expensive to renew the roof with insulation etc than putting on roof tiles. It's a specialised job that requires specialised workers and takes at least triple the work hours to complete. In our case we'd have to buy a complete stone roof and that is, sadly, simply not within our means. Also, with the added weight of stones and new insulation we'd need to put in all new beams to carry the load (adding to the cost and taking character on the inside). The marsigliesi tiles that are on our cantina roof have been there sinds the early 1930s so we feel they have also become part of the history of the house and as such they don't feel out of place to us. A third consideration is this: the south side of that roof is one of the few places where we can install solar panels on the property and to cover a natural stone roof with solar panels is just a shame (sadly we're not allowed to put solar panels on the ground where we are). We have two buildings where the stone roofs are still intact (the chapel next to the house and our off-grid cabin in the woods), and there we will do everything we can to keep it that way ;-)
@@storiesfromthecascina That is a shame, but I understand the constraints. I am no expert but perhaps there's a way to redo it that would allow for a change of tiles to stone ones if one day you'll decide to do so. Before taking a final decision I would suggest - if you haven't done so yet - to check with the Association Canova. They are based in Ossola valley and they provide advice for sympathetic restorations of traditional architecture, especially in Piemonte, where they are based. Good luck!
I hope your lawn mower is self propelled. That hill is steep enough that it can be quite bad for your knees. Also if it slips backwards as you go up not good for the toes. Please be careful . Thanks for the video! Have a great week!
that's only.possible when the building already has a residential destination. anything that has an agricultural destination and that you want to turn into residential space has to comply to the same rules as a new build.
we imagine so, they were built more or less simultaneausly. the good news would be if the floor wasn't reinforced concrete but given there are no cracks at all in that floor after half a century of heavy use, I suspect that they are.
The last generation of farmers who lived here didn't make cheese - they raised the cattle for meat production - but the generation before them might have, I'm not sure.
there are, in the summer. the kid was careful and instructed + wearing closed shoes and working gloves. and he has ben livong in italy for a while so he's brought up with the dangers. also: in australia there are many more lethal animals. we actually had a conversation that day about how nice it is that in italy there aren't such dangerous snakes and spiders as down under 😉

i'm not sure what you're trying to say but if it is "women should cook and clean" i can tell you that we divide cooking and cleaning between us and that works really well for us 😉

Well wouldn't that be nice!
Little Boss was a hard worker for a little one.
The little man was way too cute. Asking if the adults were going to help him work was too precious.
Such a cutie! I loved it when he asked if you guys were going to give me a hand or am I the only one working. So nice your friends came to help.
Your structures look nice and tidy! Mad props to both of you for cleaning up as you go. Have a good week.

It looks nice and shady and secluded in behind the chicken coop. I love the dappled light filtering through the trees.
Cant go wrong with some aussie helpers.

Great clear up in the garden.. Will you be taking the ivy off the big wall??.
Grape hyacinths, one of my favourite smells.
I’m so happy to see Velluto (Velvet). He has a sore right leg. Love watching you guys & Little Boss! He was a great worker, so cute! 🥰

that's the plan 😊 it will become a residence!
Very enjoyed to see work being done in the warm sunshine. Right now it’s snowing where I’m at.
We might have some snow on tuesday still! But meanwhile happy to send sunny spring vibes your way. ;-)

What a magical place, with so many nooks and crannies in the outdoors. My cat looks exactly like Velluto, and he is a big love nugget!❤

i have a love-hate relationship with ivy 😅 it's beautiful but in the wrong places it's really annoying.
17:20 : remember that cute little leash is not for carrying but - just like cameras - to prevent it falling.
Yeah, I learned the hard way.
Velluto possibly sheltered somewhere within your buildings before you arrived, he is gradually accepting the changes to his life.
We think he arrived while we were away for the Christmas Holidays. If he had been here all along we probably would have seen him sometime between August and December. :-)
Very clean, without the porch everything takes in more light and air..😊👏1209👍❤
It is just lovely to watch the wooded areas around your home come to life with spring! Thanks form sharing. Oh, and well done Young Boss Man!
as we understand from the locals here the arches are mostly to make the construction stronger. but drainage might be a part of that.
Velluto in the house?? Wow! He'll be on your laps soon 😉
Lovely to see the spring flowers. Reminds me of my childhood in Germany. Thank you!
we hope! ❤️ glad the flowers brought back lovely memories!
YOUR Italian property is looking so beautiful in spring. I am enjoying following your renovations.🇦🇺
That Velluto is such a rascal! I bet that by next Winter he will be a lap cat.
we hope so!

Thanks again, and looking forward to your next update :)
we think we might be getting close with velluto but it's hard to say 😅
Nice you had some help. I hope you have more people to come to help you both.
we have a busy april ahead with many helpers and also more to come in the summer! but we also definitely enjoy working with just the two of us ❤️
so relaxing serial for me. love it
That little guy is a worker!
Another great video.❤
Really like bee labels and plants too!
lol. Tasmania is a state of Australia. Yes, it is not attached. But is not known as an island. I hope you enjoyed it there.
Nor is it exactly small… 🤣🤣🤣
Beautiful place. Well done!
You need a saws-all. :) And a four wheeled cart. Gloves! (I love your videos, only concerned for your safety). ;)
It would be lovely to get a high pressure hose on that stone wall and clean it up as long as too much water doesn't go inside.
You two are such hard workers!
Great video The little six year old was adorable. Too bad he had to do all the work. 😄
Wow, this turned out to be such a beautiful place👏👏

Love the projects. You need some commercial grade lawn cutting equipment.

we couldn't resist doing some creative editing there 😅😉
Strange subtitles but nice episode
Thank you for these videos♥️.
Same here in the Cascina...Always something going on in springtime
I am envious! I would like signs of spring too. But we got 20 cm of snow as our first sign of spring! New Brunswick, Canada.
oooh! happy to bring some spring vibes your way in the meantime ❤️
@maluneid5277 - that storm dumped almost 45 cm here to your south, biggest storm of the season by far! At least it will melt quickly...

Good luck!
@@unternehme We've been following Ghesc Project on instagram for a long time :-) They do fabulous work!

I hope your lawn mower is self propelled. That hill is steep enough that it can be quite bad for your knees. Also if it slips backwards as you go up not good for the toes. Please be careful . Thanks for the video! Have a great week!
it is self propelled! wouldn't want to push it up that slope if it wasn't 🤣
Would it be possible to apply for a zoning variance on the height issue; perhaps on the basis that you are restoring an historic building ?
that's only.possible when the building already has a residential destination. anything that has an agricultural destination and that you want to turn into residential space has to comply to the same rules as a new build.
Will the catina be accommodation ?
the plan is a cottage for my mom 😊 and maybe in 35 years our retirement home 😉
Will removing the stable floors be as difficult as removing those troughs?
we imagine so, they were built more or less simultaneausly. the good news would be if the floor wasn't reinforced concrete but given there are no cracks at all in that floor after half a century of heavy use, I suspect that they are.
What will your workshop be used for❓
it will replace our current workshop where we have all our tools for wood and metal working. 😊
PODEM COLOCAR A OPÇÃO DE LEGENDAS EM PORTUGUES?

you can do that yourself in your subtitle settings. when you click the cogwheel on the video you can autotranslate to any language.
At 18.21 you say at 2 metres 85 but it should be 2 metres 58 ???
that's possible 😅 in dutch we say the numbers the other way round and i do mix them up sometimes.
Too bad you are not dairy farmers, that trough was built for the ages! Were the previous owners cheesemakers?
The last generation of farmers who lived here didn't make cheese - they raised the cattle for meat production - but the generation before them might have, I'm not sure.
Thank you!
😮😮😮😮AI NESTE PAÍS, NÃO EXISTEM COBRAS OU ESCORPIÕES?? A CRIANÇA ANDANDO LIVREMENTE E PEGANDO MADEIRAS VELHAS????😮😮😮😮
there are, in the summer. the kid was careful and instructed + wearing closed shoes and working gloves. and he has ben livong in italy for a while so he's brought up with the dangers. also: in australia there are many more lethal animals. we actually had a conversation that day about how nice it is that in italy there aren't such dangerous snakes and spiders as down under 😉

Woman Jop cook and cleaning.
i'm not sure what you're trying to say but if it is "women should cook and clean" i can tell you that we divide cooking and cleaning between us and that works really well for us 😉
