Fastest Ever Electric Race Car! STARD Projekt E Rallycross - Full Story w/ Tiff Needell

Tiff Needell heads to the PS Racing Center in Greinbach, Austria, where he checks out the World's first, all-electric rallycross car made by STARD!
This Ford Fiesta EV has a 420V battery with 2 transmissions. With a 150KW motor at the front, and two 150KW motors at the back that's a total of 450KW in batteries, producing just over 600HP!
With no gears, no clutch and 1100NM of instant torque, the electric rallycross car is perfect for racing competitively. 0-60MPH takes around 2 seconds, which is faster than a Tesla or even a Formula 1 car! To make it even better, it's also clean, guilt free speed!
With pushing the car to the absolutely limit throughout several heats, the battery level is depleted quickly. But they've thought of this too, and the car can be charged in just 15 minutes!

Every time there's a new electric racing series I find it funny how the technology has so much similarities with the other type of RC cars I used to race 20 years ago. Electric, four-wheel drive and faster acceleration than the fastest combustion engines, and similarly the power only lasted five minutes. The childhood dream of a radio-controlled car scaled up enough to drive on is becoming a reality and I'm all for it.

Tiff driving the tyres off absolutely anything is such a treat. My mum bought a puma back in the day because of Tiff 'testing' one on a track😃
The application is great, short heats are ideal for electric. But even though a lot of the sound is actually from the diff gears, not the motors, I'll always prefer a snarling, popping, ripping turbo engine over electric whine.

I used to play with an electric toy car as a child. This looks as much fun as it used to be , only for grown ups this time. The time has come. Thanks to the full size E-cars, we can all be children again! :))

Would love to see that technology in a Lancia ECV2 body shell
In stage rally, engine noise is key to sussing out how much the driver is leaning on the car.
However, in rallycross, with multiple cars on track simultaneously, these EVs are ideal.
It might help with noise ordinances that threaten certain locations, too.

Sorry, it sounds as attractive as a dentist's drill. Engine noise is a large part of the excitement in motorsport, as Alonso proved with the V10 F1 Renault last year.

Makes no sense to me . I think the idea for electric cars is to be eco friendly. Thats true if electricity use to charge batteries comes from clean power generated. If look at Formula e the batteries are charged behind the pits with diesel generators. Whats the point your burning diesel to charge batteries witch had an ecological impact to mine the lithium and other metals such as cobalt . Then your burning diesel to charge batteries. I see that being worse than just burning E85 .
Than you loose the thrill of the sound of motors . Not sure why are people buying into this , when race cars are such a small percentage of the cars in the world . Keep motor sport traditional.
Formula e generators use glycerin not diesel

Amazingly environmentally friendly that is - just replace the 'engine' when you run out of charge! Enjoyable watch, but electric motorsport is an oxymoron.
@@mattykobs Because electric motorsport is the so-called Green Motorsport that is environmentally friendly, yet after a 10-minute sprint you need to put a complete new set of batteries in the car for it to function! How is that in any way green or indeed a viable sport? That is like pounding round a track for 30 minutes in a proper car, seeing my engine temps rise so I go and put a completely new engine in the car while the original cools down. It's a fallacy.
