  • Join me as I ride the 2022 Tenere 700 and the Super Tenere 1200 for the first time.
Do I like the way these adventure touring bikes ride? At 6 feet tall, do I fit well on the stock bikes? Do I think they will wheelie?
And most importantly- Should you consider buying one?

I own a super 10 and I can tell you, it will in fact go off road and handle some pretty gnarly mountain roads and trails. It is quite capable, far more than you give it credit. All due respect your review is missing some vital information. I understand it wasn’t your bike and you couldn’t take it off road. The super 10 competes with the KTM and BMWs of the adventure world.

Awesome feedback, thanks. And yes- I agree it's not a full review but a collection of my first thoughts. I wish I could do more than a 15 minute ride to see if you're right.

@@alexdombi-weridetwo I will say you pointing out the gear indicator when the clutch is pulled in is by far my biggest complaint about the bike. Lol. The 270* angle of the engine is a bit to get used to but overall, I’ve taken it around Montana and it does great and I’m very pleased.

I have both the T7 and SuperTenere. I bought the Super Tenere to replace my Tracer 900 because my wife really liked when I took her with the T7 on some light off-road. Before I bought the Super 10 I imagined that it will be a slow, big and boring bike with some light off road capabilities. Well, I was wrong! Ya, it's big, but wow, it's so balanced and composed! You get the impression that if could stay upright even when you stop. With the Super 10 I managed to take my wife on some pretty gnarly trails for the bike size. The T7 could do them no problem but without a passenger. Switching from the T7 you'll get the impression that it's a ATV. If the T7 is a mountain goat the Super 10 is a bison. :)

I love hearing from bike bike trail riders like yourself. So many are hesitant to try it, myself included. I'll take my versys 650 on rough fire access roads but won't do single track with it.

Yamaha super tenere 1200 is a wonderful machine capable of big miles everyday and real top class bike.if your a big biker that does big miles everytime you go out for a ride well the super ten is great,if your the type of biker that just goes for short 100mile blasts on a Sunday well the super ten is wasted with you.Its a great underrated bike that has a bullet proof engine.

I absolutely agree with you that it is a great bike for long rides- the wheel base makes for a very stable ride. I do wish I had more than 15 minutes on the bike to test it out in more ways. Much like how I wish I could have taken the T7 off road as it begs to do- an adventure bike wants an adventure. Ride safe!

I enjoyed your honest first impression of the Super Tenere. It reminded me of what I love about it. I've ridden my 2014 from the tip of Baja to Nova Scotia. As others have added the engine is bullet proof. If any of your subscribers are in the market for a long haul adventure tourer, take a chance on it. Plus you can use all the money you save to properly outfit the bike with the best the aftermarket has to offer.

It all boils down to what type of riding you intend to do with the bike or what kind of riding you enjoy doing. That's why it is so difficult for motorcycle riders to only have 1 bike.

Nice demo ride write up :) I own a gen 3 Versys 650 LT and a gen 2 Super Tenere. Getting the Super Tenere's ECU flash really woke the bike up! 🔥 It's also smoother and safer (imo). It's a keeper now for sure; especially for my adventure touring. The Versys 650 is a great compliment to the Super Tenere for those days when you want to travel light, have weekend twisty fun or do a track day. If I were keeping the Versys, there's a host of upgrades I'd be doing to make it even more capable; starting with the ECU ;-) The Tenere 700 may be a future option for a supermoto conversion.

Have you done trackdays on your V650?? I've been thinking about doing a video on trackday prepping and riding a V650.

@@alexdombi-weridetwo I have. It's super fun in the corners at the expense of getting dusted in the straights 😆 I've taken it to COTA (Austin) and MSRH (Houston). Mine is a 2015 and I love it. Imo, to make it more fun and safe (track or otherwise), it needs an ECU flash, upgraded front and rear suspension, radial front master cylinder and steel braided brake lines. With those upgrades, the V650 would be infinitely proper 😎 Track day prep is relatively straightforward (depending on the skill level group the rider is in). I don't mount slicks on it or anything. Just a super thorough head to toe inspection; including chain alignment (which can be notoriously off on this bike). Besides that, just tape it up, remove the windscreen and go! 🤩

    • @alexdombi-weridetwo
      @alexdombi-weridetwo  Рік тому +1

      Awesome!
It absolutely needs a tune and suspension work. The intended purpose of the video would be to show how "versatile" the versys is- not that it can be a trackday weapon 😀

@@alexdombi-weridetwo That's a great idea for a video! Versatile-system indeed 😉😁 Lots of people underestimate this bike. Even more so lately it seems because the engine is not a 270° cranked parallel twin. That didn't stop James Hillier from winning an Isle of Man race on it though 😉
I'm in the San Antonio area. Planning on hitting MSRH on the Super Tenere or my ER-6N once the 2023 track schedules are announced. Hope to see you and your Versys out there in the future 🙂 If you ever venture west to hit the Hill Country twisties, give me a shout 🙂

Hi there Alex, I'm a guy who went from my Ninja 650 to the Super Tenere (plus I also have a Beta 498 enduro). I thought about maybe getting a Tenere 700. OTOH, all these ADV bikes are darn heavy. I've had my Super Tenere for over 11,000 miles now and am really enjoying it. This bike is a far cry from my old KZ's of the 80's!! LOL

The 700 is a totally different beast than the super tenere! If you plan to go offroad at all, the 700 is substantially better suited than your bike. And yes! Bikes have come a very long way in the last 40 years 😄

    Bro....
had it in touring mode the entire time, practically makes it accelerate like a tenere 700. With the training wheels off its a ~3.2 second 0-60mph bike.
Granted it still needs a reflash, is the slowest for an openclass flagship adventure bike, and has a bunch of other little niggles I don't like.
Can't believe none of the other s10 owners didnt pick up on this.

YOU MENTION AN S VERSION OF THE T700....... WHAT DOES THAT CONSIST OF DO YOU KNOW?? ? IS IT JUST A LOWER SEAT??? JUST A LOWER SEAT AND LOWERING LINKS???? LOWER SEAT LOWERING LINKS AND SHORTER FORK SPRINGS ???? BTW WHEN YOU GUYS TALK ABOUT SEAT HIGHT, IT WOULD BE A GOOD REFERENCE POINT FOR US TO KNOW WHAT YOUR IN SEAM IS .... GREAT REVIEWS AND I AGREE ABOUT THE 1200 .. AT ONE TIME THOUGHT OF GETTING ONE BUT GLAD I CHANGED MY MIND...

Thanks for the kind words ;)
From what the rep explained and details from the Yamaha website indicate- the S is given to a T7 built with a lowered seat and lowering links. The seat alone will drop the seat height 20mm and the lowering link drops the seat height an additional 18mm. That's a total drop of 38mm or 1.5 inches The forks are the same just positioned higher in the triple clamps to even out the geometry. I am 6 feet tall and have a 32in inseam. Hope this helps- check with a dealer on if there is any cost difference to get the lowered one.
