    Took my Super 10 on a 2000 mile solo trip for five days back in August and it was such a treat, across all terrain (minus the wind tunnel of the Golden Gate Bridge, but any bike would have sucked). My S10 has totally spoiled me because whenever I try to find a quicker, lighter or more nimble bike, it has so many shortcomings compared to the S10 for comfort + fuel range + low maintenance, that it's impossible for me to move. I even bought a T7 in July and sold it in August because it felt so underpowered compared to the S10, coupled with a wimpy 150 mile fuel range when cruising at 75+ that it just couldn't compete. I couldn't be happier with my S10.

    You might give up a bit of power and tech when compared to bmw and Ktm or even the new Pan America but you can’t beat the reliability and cost of ownership of the Super Tenere. Older platform but tried and true.

    The S10 needs to be remapped to get the next 20 horses it has inside. They are there, but EPA, you know, to unleash them requires a remap.

    I took 1 for a test ride and loved it. Then I brought it and went out to gravel roads that my sport bike couldn't and had a blast.
    Blasting out of corners using traction control is so much fun in gravel.

    I have owned alot of different bikes from high performance to touring and off road. But when I bought a super tenere I had the most fun with it. Most comfortable bike I had ridden. Great low to mid range which you can have fun without the speeding tickets, you sit really high on this bike so visibility was orsm you can see everything going around you. Yeah she is big and heavy but if your a big fella like me 6.2 120kgs it’s a great bike. Handles the twistie’s really well and great distance machine. Most importantly it won’t break the bank like a bmw. I live in Australia and in the outback nearly all the bike dealerships are Yamaha or Honda because that’s what the farmers buy, so if you do break something on a tour you know you can get that part and for half the cost of a bmw. Also first shaft drive bike I have owned and gotta say will never go back to chain drive. Don’t compare it to a sports bike. It’s a tractor it will pull tree stumps out low end which is what enduro’s are designed for I just wish Yamaha would update it as she is showing her age lacking the tech of the newer enduro tourers on the market

      I bought my s10 back in March of this year and my only 2 complaints were the seat is a bit uncomfortable after an hour of riding and there's a lot of helmet buffeting above 70mph. I fitted the madstad bracket and a puig touring windshield about a month back and it transformed the bike. I still have yet to fix the seat problem I'm experiencing but that being said, I think it's just about perfect for what I wanted from a motorcycle. Comfortable, good wind protection, as reliable and low maintenance as possible, and a jack of all trades. Oh... and you can't forget the cruise control. 😃

    • @TylerCharest
      @TylerCharest  2 роки тому +1

      It didn’t feel heavy in traffic, although it’s pretty large generally speaking so if you need something “nimble” in traffic (tight lane splitting) this might not be ideal. That being said I do see folks on full size adv’s riding around LA pretty often. So it’s possible. The ergonomics are set up very well and the clutch feel was light enough to not leave me with soar wrists. Hope that helps!

    Great Review!! This has sealed my confidence in the used S10 I just picked up.
    Does this model have the Unified Braking System (along with ABS)?
    My street riding has emphasized trail braking and loading the front tire before working it.
    The UBS may dampen the front fork compression and not allow as much loading to increase grip before adding lean angle.
    That said, It looked like more than enough fun in the turns and the comfort of crushing big miles with good distance/tank and plenty of storage is key for my rides now.
    This may just be a learning curve adjustment for me as my next few big rides are wilderness journeys through Canada. Not focused on twisties!
    Thanks for the super video!

      And I just found my own answer....
      "-Super Ténéré has both an Antilock Braking System (ABS) and Unified Braking System (UBS). With UBS, squeezing the front brake alone also provides some rear-wheel braking; pressing the rear brake first overrides UBS for traditional separate front and rear braking action."
      Sweet!!!🙂

    Quick question when you do an ecu remap does it reduce the engines reliability

    • @TylerCharest
      @TylerCharest  Рік тому

      I don't have a concrete answer, but generally speaking, if the remap brings the performance closer to the edge of the engine's tolerances, it may have an affect on the longevity of the motor. I do believe that the motor on this specific bike is robust enough to accept a remap with minimal to no effect. But it may depend on the specific remap...Hopefully someone else has a better answer!

    👍 Summed it up pretty well.
    Have a 1st gen. Its become an enduring favorite of my mcs. I currently have 5 bikes from a wide mix of built HDs to a streetfighter Busa. The S10 is my excellent interstate tourer (huge bags, great ergos, large tank, off road capable, reliable, shaft drive and huge dealer network across US) and crappy weather commuter. Ugly, slow and does nothing great.... BUT if I had a garage fire, Id be at the Yamaha dealer 1st for a new S10 as soon as I got the ins check. It does do all well and super reliable. Touring, commuting, twisties, mild off road. Ive humbled crotchrocketeers and no chicken strips on its tires ripping my local So Cal twisties. It does take some addl $$ to make great. Large aftermarket so its easy. Ive chosen to add large real panniers, exhaust & ecm reflash, real crash protection, windscreen & adj mounts, etc.

    I never understood people that compare enduro tourers/toures to sport bikes or harleys etc. On you touring machine you need EASY: easy maintanance, easy handling, easy acceleration range and fuel consumption. You don't need 170hp(not that that's not fun) but you don't. You need a linear and easy so you eat up the km's with ease and not get tired! You guys in the states ride really slow compared to europe, maybe you feel the need for that sudden burst that a high hp machine gives? Idk. For us traveling trough most of Europe with 160-180 kph is normal! And twisties are twisties. Check out schaf videos, not saying everyone rides that good but most are close lol.When i saw you use "technical twistie" in that light corner i had to replay that part, still didn't see the technical part.

      That’s fine, 10,000 lighter in the pocket also, no way in hell, is the gs, worth 10 grand more.

      @@trucker-d4161 the gsa is the top of the class but it take deep pickets where the average working guy has the two best proven bikes ever made the S10 and the ATAS.

    FFS, turn down the music at the start! Your voice volume was fine, but then it cuts to obnoxiously loud music. I know this is an old video, but I hope over the last couple years you've improved this aspect. Almost an immediate skip for that. I had to cut my volume in half, and then when you start to talk I can't hear you.
    As for the review I find the complaints of power on this bike to be a bit absurd. Is it a Hyabusa? No. Is it underpowered? No. It's like complaining that a mustang is underpowered because it doesn't match a Lamborghini. It's not underpowered at all.
    🤦‍♂You have to turn cruise control ON before you can set it! For crying out loud. I'm out of this video. Good luck with your channel, but there's already so little Super Tenere content this kind of bumbling uninformed content isn't actually adding anything.
