The ST literaly transformed my way of riding & living. A whole brand new experience (and landscapes). I just can’t get enough. My life changed and is changing still. And all of this is coming from a…motorcycle. XT-1200es 2019 forever.

I just got mine 2 weeks ago, same year, ES version. I was previously riding a 2001 honda hornet for 4 years doing 40k kms with it. Everything changed. Everything. I have a strong feeling that I made a very solid choice, the ST is a marvelous motorcycle, tremendously underrated. The weight has never been an issue (I'm 6 f 4). I'm so happy.

@@professorvoluck9311 Fantastic, mate. Welcome to our little heaven on two wheels! Don’t even bother with de the Normal mode: only Sport mode everytime, everywhere, especially on dirt roads. Use different combinations of suspension; you’ll easily find your favorites guns. You must add a skid plate (OMC’s perfect for the job), crash bars and I changed the windshield for the higher version. Used to be a pavement addict. Now, with my ST, it’s « the more gravel and dirt, the better » which is spectacular for such a big beast. Yamaha all the way!

29k great miles on my 2013 Super T (as I call her), and it's still the best touring machine I've ever owned (R1150RT, K100RT, R100RT included). What many don't comment about is it's two-up capabilities and comfort, which are top notch. I routinely take her up thru the forest service roads in Boone and Asheville, NC without hesitation or issues. Additionally, I've done 750 mile days from S.C. to N.J. via interstate without needing a masseuse afterward. For the money (purchased new in 2016 for $11.5k) it's by far the best value I've had for a machine that takes wife and I almost anywhere most people can go. Just keep out of the mud, sand and heavy gravel.

I have had many bikes of all genres' and brands over the years and my ST has been one of the most enjoyable. I still have a garage full of all different types including a Goldwing and the TS is the one that gets ridden the most. I don't worry about what turn I take or how the road develops on that bike. If I want to do single track I have a road legal XR400 or a KLR650 for that, although I have seen the youtube videos of guys doing it on a ST with the right tires. Got it for a great end of year price as well.

On the highway, bigger is better. That mid weight 700 chinzy windscreen and skinny seat will tax you. The Super T is a great highway bike and any rider throwing down highway miles will gladly sacrifice a few mpg for saddle endurance. Cornering on the ST is FAR better than influencers will lead you to believe. See how low he's getting low in the corners here. If you ride long hardscape to dirt, that bigger windscreen is your friend. Getting beat up by buffeting for hours on end just sucks. The ST will go anywhere BMW goes for a lot less money. ST is shaft drive and can do more dirt than "they" say it will. Won't trade mine for nothing.

It all depends on how you will use your bike. I’ve ridden both the 700 Tenere and Super Tenere and feel that I like the Super Tenere better for my use. The 700 Tenere is lighter, more agile and manoeuvrable than the Super Tenere , but lacks overtaking power at highway speeds. You are also burdened with frequent drive chain maintenance on the 700, compared to the low maintenance differential of the Super Tenere.

  • @JRClaybrook1
    @JRClaybrook1 3 роки тому +5

The SUPER T, S10, T12, XT1200, Super Tenere... whatever you wanna call it, is way more capable off-road than people give it credit for. You won't be jumping it through crazy single tracks... but it'll go most places people actually end up riding. I've gone off road quite a bit with mine, and yeah it's heavy, but there's a benefit to its girth - it doesn't lay all the way over like a narrower bike. If it's on its side (with crash bars), it's more at an angle and really isn't that difficult to pick up. The only hard time I've had was in nasty mud.
I think it really is the most underrated adv bike out there... but this leads to great prices in the used market ;)

The stock tires the T7 comes with are pretty good for on road and decent for light off-road. The seat could maybe use an upgrade for long rides and maybe a little more wind protection and cruise control. The TS is a good road bike but a really big bike for off-road unless you are a really good rider that can handle it.

I have shop full of motorcycles from a E900 Ducati Elefant to a Honda XL 125. My daily rides are a 2013 1200 XTZ Super Tenere and an 06 KLR 650 hot rodded up to 685cc's, balanced ported etc... (but carbed)
Your assesments are right on the money. I have done long touring on both the S10 and the KLR. But, I have modified my KLR so much it's the most comfortable bike I own, if not running Interstate Highways all day. The Tenere is perfect for running 80+ ish all day. Been across the USA on both several times. TAT, Continental Divide, done the Dragon on both several times too. The Yammy's fuel injection is perfect for altitude adjustments. But that KLR is just a cockroach that just won't die.(150K) Plus, I am not intimidated pulling it's crank out and replacing everything in that engine. (Yeah, been there done that)
I have considered getting a Tenere 700 to replace both and have a pretty good compromise of both worlds.
But, mine all my bikes are paid for, and don't owe me anything. A 700 cc bike will do ADV cross country touring just fine. But a 1200 cc macine does it so much better. Especially if you are on more roads than off pavement!

The T1200 and T700 will pretty much get you to the same places - why not get a used 1200 over a new 700 so you can ride further in more comfort?

I have a T7 and S10 (TS!). Both fantastic adventure bikes. Both of mine are fitted with Mitas EO7 Dakar's, again great tyres for road and off road. The T7 spends more time off road, but the S10 is perfect for 2 up touring in the UK and Europe 👍

@@johngoffinett7808 they are fantastic. On both bikes. And at just over £150 a pair offer great value. The reviews say they are good for high mileages. I've only done around 1000 miles on each bike and they're not really showing wear. Recommended! 👍

It's always fun watching my own stomping grounds in a video. I thought for sure you guys would be taking some of the multitude of Forest Service roads in N. Georgia. One of the cool things is how many good dirt/gravel decent roads there are connecting all the wonderful twisty blacktop in NGA.

For my riding the SuperTen (TS) is perfect. It handles curvy mountain roads in California, fast enough for me. It's super on goaty, one lane, tight, twisty roads with steep hairpins. The T mode is best for wash boarded dirt roads and heavy city traffic. otherwise S mode always. It's super well balanced filtering through city and freeway traffic jams. I've got the Dunlop Trailmax Mission tires--more confidence on dirt roads and sticks to pavement really well too, once the front tire is broken in a bit.

This is nothing to compare. Two completely different categories. S10 adv touring vs basic dual sport. S10 = 3 traction modes, 2 ride modes, universal break control, abs, electronically adjustable suspension, cruise control, grip warmers, probably better range, cruising at higher speeds on highway, tubless tires. Try riding in shit weather or high wind and see the difference. 500-600 miles a day no problem. Even in touring mode, only sport cars can match it. For quick everyday use and some offroading, T7 is more practical. For me personally, it is no go with tube tires though. Also, it is horrible wind catcher and with jerky throttle, just not great road bike. Way overpriced at $10k (almost 12 on the road).

I would like several bikes. The T7 would be great if i was planning dirt, the "TS" would be better for the journey you did, though the shaft drive would be better for real adventuring. Personally I would go for a Versys, Tiger or BMW as an ADV as I think they split the difference better.

As a SuperTen owner for several years now, you are letting yourself down by not riding it offroad at least a little. It definitely needs proper tires, but it is surprisingly capable even on backwoods logging roads and atv trails. I run the Anakee Wilds on mine, and while it's not a singletrack machine by any means, it will go at least 90% of the places that T700 will go, and your backside won't develop monkeybutt in the process.
