Just to clarify, F1 isn't a web show. It's the top category of motorsport. The cars are the fastest designed to go around a circuit. The races take place in 4 continents. The Netflix show is just a thing from the last 3 years. Formula 1 is a yearly championship and it dates back to the 1950.
They are Americans. They use the imperial system. What do you expect from them?

To be fair is because of that Netflix show that Americans are paying more attention to F1 including myself.
Daniel could have done a way better job of explaining it to be honest... describing it as a circus of adrenaline is kind of rediculous.
Yes it is the pinnacle of motorsports and technology in terms of car engineering to push the mechanical boundaries of conventional cars. The whole Netflix show is just to bring F1 to more larger audience. It's amazing to watch and at the end of each race you don't realize where the 2 hrs went.
I wish he got longer air time - this interview doesn’t do Daniel or F1 justice. Daniel’s such a great character on and off track, and F1 is a highly entertaining sport!

The reason you invite Daniel Ricciardo to a talkshow is because he is bloody Daniel Ricciardo. If you're only going to recycle silly questions and ask about DTS, you should just invite Netflix. This interview had such huge potential. You'd think TheEllenShow would want their farewell season to be spectacular.
The real reason here was to promote Drive to Survive. It's quite clear

I meaann, I get that but there's only a certain amount of questions you can really ask in the context that its very likely majority of the crowd doesnt know anything about F1.
like you couldnt really ask anything specific about the season or too in depth because it would be hard to understand without alot of context.

Whilst she probably doesn't know a lot I'm sure it's more of a way of introducing it to the audience who I imagine 90% barely heard of it before. So she's asking basic questions to educate the viewers as well, how I see it anyway.

Felt sad when he left Red Bull, especially when got like 5-7 DNFs during his last days. Just imagine him driving RB16B this 2021 season. But I'm happy for him getting used to McLaren, with Lando.
I am a Mclaren fan and was so excited when he announced he was coming to us. Who doesn't want both their drives driving for their team.

Are you dumb, he beat Verstappen 2016, 2017 and 2018 before Ricciardo had like 8 DNF's in 15 races. He is easily a top 4 driver

As others have said its a real shame he didn't get a longer interview. He's the nicest guy and so friendly and informative. I guess guests are only given a small window of time. Its for sure a real shame. Still great to see him 😁

F1 is not just about the drivers. It's the pinnacle of car engineering. You're extracting every drop of speed you can within the rules. Sure it's fun to see overtakes and stuff, but some of the R&D (DAS etc), the strategies involved in gaining points is amazing.
DTS captures more of the drama and the emotion, but the engineering is unparalleled. Imagine a whole tire change in under 3 seconds
One of my fav F1 drivers how can you not love him full of positivity and a great sense of humour . Amazing F1 driver 👍

Something that wasn’t mentioned here, Daniel ricciardo is in fact half human and half honey badger. He is often times referred to as just “the honey badger” in f1 since he is currently the only driver on the grid who is part honey badger.

I’m now a huge fan of F1 because of the series, You get to know and understand the drivers, I always thought who ever came first was the most important then I learnt the points and all the rest of it and I’m hooked.

Probably the biggest difference is the effect the teams themselves have on performance. It would seem that in Nascar, the cars performance is more closely matched.

Just as an American I feel I need to say, I got into F1 a couple years ago, and it had absolutely nothing to do with Drive to Survive. There exists some Americans like me who know that F1 has a much longer and more eventful history than the Netflix series. And yes, we use miles instead of kilometers, and we use pounds instead of kilograms for some reason, but at the end of the day that love for racing is still there.
Imagine Mika Häkkinen in that show sadly he isent driving F1 anymore and Kimi Räikkönen is leaving too sad but True. They had great run!

This just came up on my feed, late July 2023 where Daniel had since parted ways with McLaren where they replaced him with another Aussie. And after sitting out for six months as Championship leader Red Bull's third and test driver, he did a Pirelli tyre test at Silverstone after the British GP, he's back in an F1 car as part of their sister team, Scuderia AlphaTauri.

I am happy that F1 starts to gain traction in America. However, it's all thanks to Netflix's DTS, which overly dramatically portrays how the sport works.
yeah I also think the show spreads a lot of misinformation but I mean if you just got into f1 its fun to watch I think
as a non american who got into f1 through the show, if ppl really get interested they will also know this dramatic touch eventually, and if they use their head they know that its normal to exaggerate some things to add drama so they will take things with a grain of salt. things will clear up when you start to follow the sport on your own not through the netflix show. ofc there are some ppl who will maybe just watch dts but then again, there are plenty of people who know little things about them anyway and make their own assumptions, you can never win 100%.

Since majority of her viewers would be interested in watching a series instead of a race, she focused more on the series which may inspire people to watch races.

Americans are literally the only people on Earth to not know about F1. They got to know F1 through Netflix's "drive to survive". Unbelievable.
It’s really not unbelievable. The sport never took place in the USA, HAAS is only recently started to bring the Americans in. We only now have races in the US. We weren’t exposed unless we already knew it had someone that knew. I only started to learn from BBC Top Gear. We just weren’t exposed. Not our fault.

Add to the g-forces the fact that formula 1 cars have literally no driver aids of any kind, let alone power steering, a fractions of the weight, and literally five times the horsepower and yea it's probably not gonna be quite the same as driving to work Ellen😂
