@@bkscents7050 So she loves Eucalyptus, which I discovered is a very hard note to work with. It seems to either dominate everything or make every other top note really waxy smelling (I tried a few citrus notes and also pineapple with it but they all flopped). I ended up just giving into the eucalyptus completely and making a very aromatic top mid note with mint and lavender and then the base note was mainly Grosjmann with some extra sandlewood and patchouli (Used sandalore and clearwood based on your recommendations for the base notes). The base note ended up being surprisingly aquatic on the dry down because of the eucalyptus and mint I think which I quite liked. I used a little Ambrox super also because I wanted a slightly masculine note as she's not a fan of traditionally "female" perfumes. It definitely ended up quite unisex in the end. Not sure I love eucalyptus as a main note but she loves it which is all that matters really!
Also, have you heard of a scent wheel? It’s like a Ferris wheel where you attach a scent strip in each wrung and spin it to get a sense of what your scent smells like all together. Sounds handy!
Hello BK! Thanks for the video, it was very good for me since I'm a begginer in perfumary and I've just started to look for equipment and materials. I'm so glad I had found your videos, they are so claryfing! Thank you for that. I'll keep watching. Regards from Brazil! :)
Hey BK! Your videos are invaluable; I've learned so much from your content. The explanations you provide are easy to understand, I appreciate all the knowledge you pass along. I look forward to the video you mentioned might be released regarding recommended raw ingredients. Thanks for all you do!
I really appreciate your effort to provide such valuable content! I have a question, do you have to send your final blend to the lab to approve it and then mass-produce it?
Hello BK, first off thanks for the great informative video. I’m gonna try that brand of filter paper, because the last time I bought a pack of filter papers it messed up a formula in that some ingredient material was left behind in the paper. And I don’t mean impurities I’m referring to actual ingredients that the formula outcome was changed. I even poured perfumers alcohol to “cleanse the paper 🤦🏻♂️. Anyway I’m rambling, lol thanks for advise.
I have been watching your videos pretty much non stop lately, very informative and well done. I'm looking to get started creating by the summer, as for right now just doing my homework and making lists of what I want to aquire before diving in I had a question about the glassware(beakers, funnels, pipettes etc...) what is the best way to wash them. Worried about cross contamination (oils, soaps) Also one more question when it comes time that I would like to try my hand in creating a brand and sell my product what things do I have to do legally (insurance, safety standards etc.. Now I'm sure it changes based on where you live I would assume I am in Canada) Thank you and hope to hear from you
wanted to create prefume with one concentrate perfume mix I found and loved . Started figuring out how to do it and then I just sink into the topic of perfumery 🙈 Looking forward to hopefully see the video about your recomendations of first raw materials to start with 🤗🤗
Hello, BK! Have same question as @Filip Galen How do you wash your equipment (pipets, beakers etc) ? Do you use soap, soda, vinegar? If we reuse glass pipets, how can we remove odour of previous substance?
Something I'd like to add to regarding scales. I have the same scale you use (same looks at least). But I do notice I need to turn my scale on and wait a few hours before I can use it. Because it needs to stabilize. After calibrating, after a few hours I notice it at -1 grams. But after that it stabilizes. I'm not sure why, might be because of passive low ventilation happening in my home. But I've seen people leave bad reviews about accuracy on scales, while all they need is to let it "warm up" to get more accurate readings.
This might be a beginner question, but for example, is 10mg of a material diluted to 10%, the same as 1mg of the same material undiluted at 100%? Or does different dilutions give materials different effects when adding to a blend, even if the quantity is adjusted to match the concentration percentage? Because when replicating formulas, I would sometimes adjust all the material quantities based on 10% dilutions, since I usually have my materials diluted at 10% Thanks in advance!
Hi BK! Your videos are so incredibly helpful. Thank you :) I finished a week course in perfumery in the UK but still had a few questions. I was wondering; when it comes to raw materials, from what I understand they need to be diluted. Besides IFRA, is there any other place where I could get information on the minimum amount of dilution any given material requires? (In my head I imagine a lovely website that has all the materials listed, and the percentage of dilution required in a simple format). So far the IFRA one I found is making my head hurt.
Hello and thanks for the great information. I was curious how you go about cleaning your pipettes and other lab glassware. What detergent (if any) do you use and do you rinse them with distilled water and/or perfumer's alcohol after they've been rinsed in tap water?
For glass beakers...I just use simple dish soap and tap water. Glass pipettes however are a bit more tricky...for that I use an ultrasonic cleaner and use a special blend of cleaner with tap water inside the ultrasonic bucket
I actually make my own home made blend....just a few drops of dish soap (not enough to make the cleaner create bubbles) and a splash of orange oil degreaser (like a tablespoon)......and the rest is just water and the agitation of the since vibrations. Works fine for me :)
After you wash the pipettes, do you just wait to let them air dry? Does it matter if you have residual water inside them when you’re using them again? Thanks!
I use a ton of toilet paper sheets with my pipettes I fold 2 sheets in half and lay my pipettes on their in front of my bottles. I burn through plastic pipettes as well, and it does feel a bit bad. Knowing I am using so much darn plastic
Question. After we mix our fragrance compound and allow it to mascerate Should we allow it to mascerate again once we mix it with our carrier solutions such as perfumer's alcohol ?
I have a question good sir, how do I dilute a prediluted material ? lets say I'm trying make a 1% dilution from (eugenol 50%). is there a mathematical law to follow ?
i got question that always stuck on my mind whats the difference between dpg and alcohol and carrier oil ? plus when should i add distilled water to my perfume ? btw tysm your videos really helped putting me out of my misery
I haven't tried civettone yet. But when dealing with any of my "civet" materials that I do have.....it's always in traces and no more than 1/1000 of the full fragrance formula. Don't rely just on one single material as a "main accord". Pair it with muscenone, muscone or an animlic musk......and perhaps some Tonquitone (if you dare)
Hey BK Scents. First of all thank you very much for your interestening and informative content! I was wondering if there is any way to get in touch with you personally? Thank you very much! Bastian

hi im interested to become a perfumer but the problem its that i dont know nothing about perfumery and about chemistry , i just love so much to create perfume , its there skills that you can be perfumer without any graduation in chemistry ? Thanks for your lessons.
Great video. Quick question. I am new to perfumery and wanted to know Is it possible for me to add trace amounts of actual drinkable real Rum and Whiskey in my fragrance concentrates?
please review your own perfume or let someone else review it so we can find out the SPL. it will help us choose the materials to use. i am new to perfumery BTW. thank you for helping me a lot with the video you made.
You can mix "aroma chemicals" and essential oils, yes. But if you are referring to "fragrance oil" as the stuff you buy that's a premade full perfume in a bottle, no. Those are not suitable for perfumery
Lol....I don't know if you are being serious or not...lol. I've never been asked this before 😂 but no, I've never made that accord....I don't even know what gorillas smell like....I'm very intrigued now...
@@bkscents7050 I am planning on making a scent based on Donkey Kong Country. Bananas, Jungle, Barrels, Gorilla Musk. Apparently they smell like humans with less offensive BO due to their vegetarian diet. Also some notes of feces because poo and fur don’t mix well.
