    Your video was used as an example on a forum for someone asking about his tyre wear. I fully agree with you in the most (I was in the tyre game for many years). Your example of overinflation is true for narrower tyres, wear in the centre; however, as you are probably aware, on wider tyres, the wear is distorted; both the centre and the outside edges will also wear to a lesser extent due to the distortion of the tyre. The centre being pressed down by taking the majority of the load will cause the footprint to distort to almost a W. Causing less wear at the bottom of the W and more at the upper points of the W.

    Excellent. Very concise. Just had the tow in reduced (first had to had to replace frozen together inner and outer tie rods on both sides) as my front tires had outer wear over the last 3k miles( got new lower control arms). It also fixed a steering wheel vibration above 65mph.
    She runs nice and smooth now. Michelin cross climate 2's on a 2006 Toyota Matrix AWD with 182k miles.

    1 more thing to consider when buying a used car with tire wear is that who knows where the tire came from and alot of times they move the bad tire from the front and put it on the rear and more times then not a tire with bad wear comes from the front.

    Excellent video! Question: I bought a new Prius, it had 2 miles on it when I bought it and it has 21,000. Factory tires, Yokohama blu earth. It started bouncing up and down around 50 mph so I took it to the dealership. They told me the tires were cupping. Can something else cause cupping besides wore out shocks or struts? I mean, it only has 20,000 miles on it. Please help

    I have outer edge wear on all 4 of my tires on a 2010 Tacoma. The recommended psi for my tire is 30. I always keep all 4 at 30 or above. Sometimes the front driver tire tends to lose a little psi if the temp goes from warm to cold sitting overnight. However, it doesn’t even lose air that often and when it does I always fill it to match the other side right away. Im baffled as to what is causing it. Im worried if I get new tires the same thing will happen to them. There is a very defined line that goes full circle along the outer edge of the tire. I just had an alignment today and they did a good job, but previously I was driving with an alignment that had gone out early. However 🙄 The lines I describe have been there since the day I bought the truck, so can’t say for sure….

    My tires feel like saw tooth edges. All four tires only on the edges. I had it aligned he said the toe was out in the front. What do you think ? I just bought the minivan. A Toyota 2008 Sienna. I didn’t hear the tire noise when I test drove it cause it only makes tire noise in a road bend and starting at about 30 -40 mph and I drove straight down a highway slowed and turned around and came back to the car dealer. I never went into a road bend at speed. Why does all four tires have varying degrees of saw tooth edges ?

  • @JohnNorris411

    I replaced my worn out ball joints and had the truck in the shop to get aligned properly. I was driving a hundred miles a day commuting, after a month and a half or so my tires were getting loud. I noticed I was getting the toe heal wear, every other set of tread was either high or low, high, low, high, low all the way around. I did have my tires over-inflated just a little to help with gas mileage, I figured that was the issue, I let my air back down from 41psi to the recommended 35. The door tag states 41 in the rear 35 in the front. After another month and a half the wear did not even back out like I had hoped it would. The rear tires are nice and even, the front tires have the exact same wear pattern on both sides. I took them off today to get a better look, it is running my hand around the tire it is bumpy both ways but smoother in one direction and sharp and rough in the other. Could this be nothing more than needing to be rotated? And maybe because I had an extra 6 psi in them? I am really hoping it is not a suspension issue, Bearings seem fine, The ball joints are new, I installed myself and asked the shop that did the alignment to take a look at everything to make sure it all seems good. They said everything looked good and then did the alignment. I have had the tires on the truck for a couple years now and no issues until after I started the commute to work, I had no issues with any abnormal wear before that. So I am really hoping it was the over-inflation that did it. So I am hoping rotating them will help even the wear back out? They still have quite a bit of tread. Front are heal toed the rear are great. I was wondering what the best option is for ratation to try and get these to wear down the high spots and maybe even back out. I was thinking just switching the front, passenger to driver and driver to passenger as the high low pattern seems to be following direction of travel on both tires, and leaving the rear tires in place as they look good and are wearing evenly. I would love any input from you or anyone with more knowledge on the probable cause and how to correct it. I am hoping I do not have to buy new tires. They are aggressive pattern all-weather truck tires with lots of tread still. Thanks in advance. Currently, they are so loud I have to keep the windows rolled up or they give me a headache.

      You can try a rotating but once a tire wears theres no getting it back to how it used to be. I would check your shocks/struts. Sounds like they could have something to do with the wear your explaining. You can always get tires replaced/warrantied as well. Go back to where you bout them and explain this to them. It's worth a shot. Good luck!

    I have one ive only seen twice now and have never figured out. My 06 Ram 3500 dually on the passenger side, and my 14 ram 3500 dually drivers side. The outer tire wears out a lot faster than the inner on that side. The worn out tires have worn flat/smooth, no cupping, feathering, hi/low spots. I would say its wearing perfectly (except the inner tire has twice the tread) So yes I have neglected to rotate the rears 20,000 miles since my last rotation. All of my tires are wearing great, just the one has low tread. They are also all at the tire recommend 80psi.. any ideas?

    I got a leveled ram 1500. Both front tires have this groove almost in the middle of tire. Never noticed it before. Curious as to if you know what would cause that? It’s only a small groove and it’s not from the tread or rubbing. Not sure if it’s just bad tires or if there is something going on. Tires are brand new this year.

    • @JPAutoFleet
      @JPAutoFleet  5 років тому

      Without seeing it's hard to tell. But when tires wear in the center its usually from over inflation. Make sure your running proper air pressure. Without seeing i cant assure you that's what's going on. If it's just a thin groove and not a spread out pattern I'd take them to where you bout them for warranty.

    I have a 2008 Ram 2500 with a 6” lift on 37” tires. My front tires are wearing every other lug across the front tires.. what would cause this? Truck has new Bilstein shocks on it since before putting tires on and tire are 6months old with 15k miles on them...

    • @JPAutoFleet
      @JPAutoFleet  5 років тому

      With big tires you always run into alignment and balancing issues. Because they're so large you often can't get them perfect. Wear on every other lug most of the time is a sign of improper inflation or mismatched tires. It means the treads arent making contact with the road at the same time. I'd first make sure your tire pressure is proper on all 4 wheels. If your running different brands/models of tires thats probably your problem. Alignment issues or worn components can sometimes do this. Get the tires balanced and Double check all your steering linkage connections/bolts And check your ball joints. If you do everything and nothing works its it's probably time for a different set of tires! I wish you luck!

      JP Auto & Fleet Services the car is lowered on coil overs so it’s not on stock suspension. Someone said maybe my upper control arms need to be replaced. Someone else said that the negative camber is normal and for me to get wider rims to help get rid of the negative camber. Another said to get a wheel alignment. I’m just just and not sure which to lean on.

      @@stayhumble2613 a camber kit will fix this along with an alignment. Wider tires is too expensive and not a reliable fix. The camber kit installs easily. Plenty of videos on UA-cam about it👍

    My back left wheel rim is a bit bent. The car seems like floating above 100 km/h. Steering remains steady. There is no vibration but the car seems to lose control or slides a bit to right or left side if there happens to be a bump or the car gets to 100 km/h. How to resolve it?

    • @JPAutoFleet
      @JPAutoFleet  4 роки тому

      Very hard to tell without driving it myself. I would check your alignment and replace that rim for starters.

    Hey Josh, I drive a tri-axle dump truck. I noticed that my front right steering tire has pretty substantial flat spots all the way around. They’re on the inside and outside tread, but more so on the inside. In addition, I’m starting to see steel belt on the flat spots on the inside part of the tire. I’ve replaced the tire, but what is causing that?

    • @JPAutoFleet
      @JPAutoFleet  5 років тому

      Sounds like under inflation. Make sure your tires have the proper amount of air in them. Sticker on the inside of the drivers door should have your reccomended tire pressure.

      Hi problably ur overloading the tire if you still have the regular 11r22.5 or 24.5 try switching to a wider tire such as a 325 or 385/ 22.5 or just try switching to a higher ply rating

      It sounds like your tires need to be balanced And you may have warped rotors. If the steering wheel shakes when you apply the brakes your rotors are warped.

      Your toe setting is probably out. You also may have worn suspension components. Get you front end checked and get an alignment.

      We just put new tires on the back, because of this. The inner Tie Rods need replaced because the boot is not intact.

    • @JPAutoFleet
      @JPAutoFleet  5 років тому

      More than likely you have a toe problem. Either worn components (tie rods) or your alignment is off. You should always check for worn components before replacing tires. If you dont correct these issues you'll eat through tires all day. Get your front end checked or check it yourself
      ua-cam.com/video/Z5lyC3D4Wy4/v-deo.html. Replace any worn components and get a proper alignment at a good shop. Hope this helps!

      Sorry but there's not enough information there for me to give you an idea of what to look for. If it's shaking while you hit the brakes chances are you might have warped rotors. But I'm not sure if that's exactly what's happening. Have the front end and brakes checked out for sure. Hope this helps 👍

    What's does mechanical wear on tires mean?
    My notes says alignment or mechanical wear

    • @JPAutoFleet
      @JPAutoFleet  5 років тому +1

      I would assume it relates to the suspension components being out of tolerance thus creating uneven wear on your tires. Sounds like you need an alignment at the least. But make sure to check the front end components for wear first.

    On my '05 Lexus GX470 (solid rear drive axle) the inside of of both tires are bald. Too much negative camber? How can you adjust camber on the rear axle of the GX470?

    • @JPAutoFleet
      @JPAutoFleet  5 років тому

      To me it sounds like an under inflation problem. Or an under inflation problem paired with improper camber settings. Check tire pressure first. Chance are it may be as easy as that. To answer your question on camber adjustment. Every vehicle s different on adjustment points. And even if I could tell you exactly where to adjust the camber it means nothing if you dont have a proper computerized alignment machine to measure it. Check tire pressure and take it for an alignment check. If it's out of spec have the alignment done. Hope this helps and thanks for the comment!
