I shed a tear every time I hear that Dragon's Dogma hasn't been forgotten. I hope that Netflix series turns out well and Itsuno is working on a sequel or spiritual successor for it
I heard that he got to choose between making DMC5 and DD2 and he choosed DMC so maybe DD2 will be next ?
We need another dragons dogma.
I’m thinking of getting Dark Arisen for the switch, is it a series I need to follow to understand?
Justin Doan I’ve been trying to get into dragons dogma but the damage scaling just feels broken
@@shredgordon3240 try dark arisen version
While the art style still looks great to me, I do wish they would've updated the textures and models a little.
Supposedly they did, but just enough I guess
@@poopikins I guess, but like Karak said, it's pretty hard to tell. Lol.
@@War624 lol right. I never finished it so I'm excited to jump back in
Exactly! Just like Skyrim’s upscaled resolution, makes the textures look worse! This doesn’t look like they’ve done anything. Disappointing.
Can it be modded?
If you haven't played this game and you're desperate for a really great RPG experience, I highly recommend this title. Yeah it's barely been upgraded, but honestly once you're a few hours in you'll hardly pay any attention to the graphics. It's got AWESOME gameplay, a great story and like the man said the music and especially voice acting is god tier tbh. I won't be playing it again, sadly not enough has been upgraded to make it worth a revisit but I remember my 60+ hour play through extremely fondly. : ) 8/10
I played this when it came out for 360 very good if you can get it cheap
Well it'll have some new dlc story next year which will likely be the only other reasons besides trying to get enough sales to convince the Devs to make a sequel (main reason i'm buying it).
As for graphics...i'm mainly a jrpg gamer so graphics are the last concern i have for games lol.
@@ifrit1937 same I bought it to support a sequel. Very underated game. Not perfect but with some improvements a sequel could really compete with the best rpgs out there.
@@lc3212 same. I hope they do. Worth the 30 dollars of you havent played before. Honestly a fantastic game.
world of warcraft's expansion is about to come out anyway. this is trash.
Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Releasing
Haha!
Yep, I can achieve even better results VFX wise using Re-Shade+SeewtFX. The reasons why I'm still buying the "Remaster" are:
I bought the OG for $2 bucks
I feel like I owe Video Games Gods money
I loved the game
I want the franchise to grow
The upcoming DLC will only work on the Re-Reckoning version
@@torinux4980 that's basically why I pre-ordered it. Loved playing it then and I will love playing it tomorrow. : )
I’m just going to play the 360 version on the Xbox one

I loved the hell out of this game years ago, Despite the fact that making your own weapons was stupid broken and it seemed there was a lot of empty world
I heard it was originally meant as MMORPG but that concept failed. If so I understand the emptiness somewhat.
it was meant to be a mmo but got changed mid production hence why the mmo world and quest design feel to it.
@@dushikorsou1 no the mmo was and is separate from this game and its what caused them to lose so much money.

Waaay Better!
'maybe folding @ home is upscaling my Jenna Haze collection" LOLOLOL. That was slick

There better be several. Because they're charging 14 dollars more for that version.
@@smutskates My understanding is that its just one. My hope is that if people show enough support for the IP we may get a sequel or another game in the universe. It's all about the Scholia Arcana, bro.

Great relationship-gamers together
The original was a hidden gem! I just randomly found it and ended up loving it. I'll probably get it if I can get it really cheap on offer sometime (50% or more), especially on console, but I won't be paying full price for it.
Bruh, it's 40$... 😒
Infinite XP ok, and? Like I said, I’ll buy it if I can get it “really cheap”
Seems too many people here have my dollars than sense, consumerist retards that buy anything with a high price tag despite the quality of a product.
Just because I won’t spend $40 on a rerelease that’s basically unchanged? How about I won’t spend $40 because I’ve already played it and don’t feel the need to spend that on a game I’ve already played given that the rerelease hasn’t been upgraded much. I like the game enough that I’m willing to buy it again on offer, but not enough to pay $40 for when I could use that money to buy basically countless other games that I’ve yet to play.
If you already own the original on Steam, you get a 50% discount on re-reckoning =)
Man I wish a game like this would come out with current or next gen graphics :(
Me too. I don't understand why if I want to play a game with deep arcadey combat I have to play DMC or Bayonetta and if I want to play an RPG I have to play The Witcher or Disco Elysium. Why can't I play a game that has deep arcadey combat AND complex role playing elements?

This is one of my favorite RPGs.
*ARPGs
@@utisti4976 RPG. Same thing. General broad terms
Same! Loved this game! I hope this remaster does well and THQN give it a sequel. Supposedly this remaster is also getting a new expansion sometime next year.
loved the original, can't way to get the remaster. this was one of the best surprises this year.
@Mister Mindcrime Although THQ's "remasters" are rather lack-luster in the actual remaster department, they do tend to bring frequent content updates to the games they bring under their wing. I mean they introduced 2 new expansions over the last couple of years for Titan Quest. So maybe once some additional content has come out for this it'll be worth grabbing.
@Mister Mindcrime THQ added a Lost City of Atlantis and a Norse mythology-themed expansion called Ragnarok to Titan Quest. If you have Steam you can just browse it on the Steam store page.
Combined with the fact that they're making new dlc for KoA too, I'm really excited I play this game
Same here I have revisited this game multiple times over the years. Not a big fan of the price tag or the lack of enhancements but I'll take it for a future proof version of the game.
So they actually kept the Mass Effect armor in there. I thought for sure that it would have been taken out due to licensing with EA.
The biggest issue of this game is how quickly the difficulty tanks. Very VERY early in the game enemies just become a non-threat unless you just completely forgo any kind of multi-hit attack
I am super pumped to start playing this tomorrow!! Yea I wish they updated the graphics but excited to see what the new DLC will be later on when they release that 😋
they will be releasing new dlc for the game?

Keep up the great work man. Your reviews are always the first I look for, & the ones that I put the most stock in. I just wanted to take a moment to say that I appreciate your work. Thank you!
I'm so excited to replay this game. Been waiting for this for a long time coming. This game has a special place in my heart and I honestly played it more than skyrim back in the day. I love skyrim too especially with mods.
This game was criminally underrated, it had the best rpg combat system ever
How? It's a simple action RPG combat system with a twist or two. Enjoyable, but nothing to write home about. We've seen the same thing in dozens, or maybe even hundreds of other action RPGs. How does that qualify as the game having the "best rpg combat system"? There is no nuance nor any depth here.
@@RiskOfBaer it's fun, fast, fluid, engaging with a hack and slash feel to it, care to give me an example of another rpg that had a similar combat system?
RiskOfBaer literally everyone who has played the game, agrees the combat is phenomenal.
That's true. The combat should be stolen by every other western real time rpg game.
Chakrams ftw
Your wordplay in this review is absolutely on point. Made me laugh out loud a couple times. Great review!
One of the main things I hoped would be fixed is loot storage.
- give us more storage space in our homes
- have an outfit manager where we can save custom armor sets
- make it so that the cool but eventually severely underpowered DLC weapons can be scaled up as we progress through the game. it's a shame how they are just wasted. (this also applies to unique quest rewards)
Level lock has been removed
The original game determined the level of a zone on first entering, this was stored in the save file. In Re-Reckoning we re-calculate the level every time entering or re-entering a level
New zone Level calculation
The original game has all zones marked with a minimum and maximum level. on entering, the current player level was clamped into this minimum / maximum range and stored as level
We now use the current difficulty level as a means to determine the level before clamping into the minimum / maximum range. On Casual difficulty, the player level is reduced a bit, on hard and very hard it is increased. We also increase the maximum values for hard and very hard difficulty
The XP gain has been reduced to cater for the increased level of enemies and we made sure that XP is not increased when playing on harder difficulties due to the effect of beating higher level enemies
The result is that you can still out-level zones - which is desirable if it doesn‘t happen too quick. It is part of the power fantasy to be able to come back to initial zones and be over powered - but out-leveling zones you play for the first time should only happen rarely
We also made the zone Level calculation easier to modify by modders (PC only)
Loot level lock of Containers removed
Loot containers now only store their generated loot when they are opened while before they used to store it when entering a zone and were generated to the current player level
Loot generation was changed
In Re-Reckoning loot generation rules are altered so that you will more often get items that fit your characters skillset. Loot is mostly randomly generated but we increased the weights of loot that matches the players skill lineup better and we have a virtual counter that increases the chance of better loot drops when you didn‘t find anything good
From THQ FAQ page
I love KoA. It does a few things very well imo: You always feel badass, like you never run around in rags and feel like you are just rushing to the endgame content, because that is what matters. Instead you get sets that look epic early on, even if you will eventually swap them out ofc. The storylines can be quite good. However they also tried really hard to create hype moments and then just ran out of money and had to fill in the blanks with generic encounters (i have a few specific encounters in mind here, that just underdelivered what was promised); I assume that wasn't rectified in this version whatsoever. The stories are still good, but you can tell the spots where there was more planned and never got finished, because the original studio had to cut corners just to ship the game out back then.
One of my favorite features is the class system. Respeccing and trying things out is always fun and you can truly find your own playstyle and preferences unlike what is so often promised, but then feels suboptimal. That being said, i think it comes at the cost of difficulty, the balancing is off and overall the game is pretty easy. Imo the game shines in it's Addons, which to my understanding are included in the base version of Re-Reckoning (Please correct me, if i am wrong on this one, or if you know for sure, confirm that point please). Also that version will get a new DLC at some point in the future, which actually might convince me to buy the game later down the line.
All in all as it stands the Re-Reckoning version doesn't offer me enough to make me repurchase a game, that i could basically play for free now. If you've never played it, maybe watch the first 30min-1h of a let's play. You basically get more of the same with, as i said, slight peaks in the (formerly) Addons imo.
EDIT: The inventory system was aweful ! The whole marking loot as trash in a fiddly console-ready menu gets annoying really quickly imo.
Damn. Was looking forward to this. Guess ill stick with my older version. Not paying $40 for a fov slider.
I believe owners of koa:r get 60% off on steam
Yeah, urs would be $15
I dont think the older version will receive the expansion
i like never buy games... but i consider that the 12$ i gave for the game aren't enough... and the fact that they went bankrupt before accomplishing their goal of creating the same type of game but with different game style BUT multiplayer... just tilts me off that they didn't manage to do it, so i'm gonna show all the support and i'll love to play the game on 4K now. Also i hope that enough people will be able to buy so they get back to the Project Copernicus game.
imo the game deserved way more than other game launched at that time and costed 40$, so i'll consider i'll just pay the difference to get an extra gift from them while i gift them back for one of the best feeling games i played in my childhood and also trying it at least once a year xD
You're supposed to play games for the gameplay tho
The one issue which made me stop playing the original, was how it required so much work to min-max using the level-lock system it used for the various zones (you enter a zone, and the level is permanently locked to your level, or to the min or max if you're underleveled or overleveled). This fixes this, by unlocking the levels of the zones. There is no more dread of accidentally entering a zone too early, and having a level 6-15 level zone stuck permanently at level 6. This is why I'm looking forward to this.
THQ did not want to destroy the charm of the original and therefore limited themselves to adapting the textures to the new resolution. I think it is just right. If they had completely redesigned the whole game, all fans would be upset because it has nothing to do with the original. So it's not a remaster but rather a classic re-charming RPG masterpiece.
I never finished this one, time to jump back in!
Great review. Loved this back in the day and i was keen at first to get it but in the end i just didn't see enough difference to make me want to pay full price for it again. This could of definitely benefited from a destroy all humans type remake which would of been awesome rather than a remaster.
Man even though I wish they put some more time into the graphics....I just have to buy this one! It was one of my favorite hidden gems on PS3 and it's nothing short of a miracle that it's getting another lease on life plus a new dlc. I just really hope this sells well so the full next gen sequel this series deserves gets made.
By far one of my favorite RPGs. I started playing it again and then a week later found out about this. I'm going to wait until next year when the expansion is released, but definitely going to buy it again!

I recall trying to get into this game.
A few days after Dark Souls...
I think I made the right choice. Kingdoms had its heart in the right place. But every other organ worked against it.
I tried the demo, twice. Each time I was drawn in by the art style and the world building, but turned off by just how generic everything else felt.

I'm really glad they didn't make a ton of changes. My wife is too. She has been wanting to play this again for a long time. This game is how I got her hooked on gaming. I told her this was being released again today, and she was more excited than I had seen in a long time.
Another great review. I love the way these are written. Thank you!
Hey if I could choose to go back to 2012, let's go.
I'm excited for this game. I absolutely loved the original on PS3 but for some reason never ended up playing the DLC's for it. A re-release on PS4 with some tweaks and bundled with the add ons at its price point is just fine to me. I'm happy to support the IP again. Would love to see a new game in the future.
Your intro to this video was absolutely brilliant lol
Even if it's basically the same game with an fov slider, I'll buy it because I LOVED the original release
I want to buy it but at the same time I may pass as I feel they should have done alot more with this title.
Bying it mean THQ will have incentive to buy more games and do next to no improvements while selling poorly means they might realize that while they don't need to remaster the game they need to improve it enough to warrant $40.
JR Messina Firstly the game got the tweaks it needed. It was already a solid game. Buying it opens the possibility of a sequel finally.
After seeing how little they did I'm probably just Gunna stick with my original pc copy. looks about the same
@Kirby Superstar
Maybe it's naive, but I will take the risk. At least there is an expansion, and if that one is good we can have hopes for an sequel. There are a lot of games that ask more and evolve even far less than this game. Think at EA sports titles - I'm lucky I don't like those sports titles at all, but there's a REAL expensive rip-off that punches the costumers in the face.
@@aidankhaos7687 Which is why I will likely buy it. At $20 it's not expensive I was just hoping they would have done alittle more with it.
My biggest gripe with the original Amalur: you level up waaaaay too fast. My first playthrough I reached the level cap and I was barely halfway done with the story. My second playthrough I avoided lorestones, sidequests I didn't like, and using the reckoning mode button mash for bonus XP, and I still reached the level cap before I was done with the story. I doubt they changed that at all, and I didn't really enjoy Amalur that much anyways, so this is a pass for me.
I'm getting this version because they said they fixed the leveling progression and also the loot chests will be fixed.
@@hugoagostinho5119 Really! I tried finding information about that but couldn't, so I assumed they left it. Good to know if I feel like trying Amalur again sometime.
That's way different than my experience. I've beaten the main quest and both DLC's and am only level 38 of 40.
Here is what they changed from the original:
•You can now change the appearance of the HUD to smaller than default or completely hidden.
•A new Very Hard difficulty setting. This setting changes the damage output of enemies, health of players & allies, and the amount of attacks that enemies may do at any one time. Level caps zones are also higher than other difficulties.
•New Level Zone Calculation: The original had all zones marked with a minimum & maximum level. Upon entering, the current player level was clamped onto this range & stored. Meaning if you entered a 2-7 range at level 2, the whole zone stayed at level 2. The remaster instead scales the zone up to the MAX of the range.
•The game now uses the current difficulty level to determine the MIN and MAX level range. On Casual difficulty, the level is reduced a bit. On Hard & Very Hard, it is increased instead.
•The XP gain has been reduced to cater to the increased level of enemies, and the XP is not increased when playing on harder difficulties, due to the effect of fighting more higher level enemies.
•Loot containers now only store their generated loot when they are opened, while before they used to store it when entering a zone and were generated to the current player level at that time.
•Loot Generation has been changed so that you will more often get items that fit your character’s skill set. Loot is mostly randomly generated but they increased the weights of loot that match the player’s skill lineup better. There is also a virtual counter that increases the chances of better loot drops, when you dont find anything good for awhile.
Hopefully this answers some questions :)
@@trahvesty9538 if only that were in the original!
Without UA-cam, I would have never remembered this was an older game that was made long before present day high tech/high dollar titles. Thanks for taking so much time and effort to hammer that lone point out.
As a Rhode islander this game has a bittersweet place in my heart
I still have a release copy signed by R.A. Salvatore and Curt Schilling
I absolutely love the original, one of the most underrated action rpgs ever, in my opinion.
I'm still holding onto hope for a sequel.
Damn was hoping this would be a good month or two worth of time. Oh well, thanks for the savings lol!
It's still a great game if you've never played it. Unless the graphics turn you off, the combat is really fun. Maybe wait for a discount.
@@AchillesFeel Yeah, these games are nothing alike.
@@AchillesFeel You didn't say it but you definitely implied it. That's usually how conversations like this go. Someone wanted something that they didn't end up receiving and then someone else recommends something similar.
@@AchillesFeel That's usually how conversations like this usually go. You recommend something similar. If not, you could just recommend anything. How about pizza or Need For Speed then?
And this wins as the most useless conversation I have seen this year yet. Congratulations guys. 🎊 🤦🏻♂️😂
4:19 That red dude is Jim Cummings, who has done voicework for Skyrim, ESO, Fallout 4 and GTA V, amongst others.
Haven't played this game before so I can't say anything about the changes, but I am very surprised by how good it is. I love it
My favourite RPG,so happy that more people will play it,and I envy their first experience
I just started it. Wish me lucklol
@@taylorkaykay5137 Good luck, reach me if you'll need some help
I feel like their biggest mistake was not releasing it on switch
Judging by how poor it runs on an overpowered PC, I don't think they would've made it run on the Switch. It's a low effort re-release, porting it to Switch and making it run well enough was probably too much of a bother.
@@RiskOfBaer I completely agree with you
About unique weapon hoarding: they are well-designed and look cool, like that meat greatsword with blinking eyes and stuff... But if you level up your blacksmith and enchantment masteries, you can craft highly customizable weapons of unmatched power... that looks dull and absolutely similar to each other (there's literally like 3 or 4 models, one for each tier of skill). If only we can at least transmogrify our crafts to look like other unlocked weapons...
Anyone who hasnt played this game should buy it anyways. It truly captures the beauty of rpgs before they started being made for money and not gameplay.
Excuse me who is Jenna Haze and should I start a collection? Sounds like a cool game. I'm thirteen.
I think reviewers have been understating how much of an improvement the changed level gating and difficulty is, since that really impacts completionists' lategame content.
I remember back when we used to live in a time when if you wanted to replay something, you would just replay it. Now, you gotta consider if you wanna pay for the subpar remaster version to replay it.
my steam version stopped working properly a few years ago, and the controller for PC just didn't work AT ALL for some reason. So knowing it was being re-released for PS4 made me happy because I really do like this game, it's a solid hit in my book and 40 bucks isn't a slap in the face for me. I'll be getting this day one and since I'm off work all this week, I'll be binging it all week!
Awesome, I find that this game was really underrated.
Welp it's free now lol
Thumbs up from me for using the word Festoon. So really the only draw to grabbing this right now is so you can play the game without the Origin launcher. And while I'll be passing on this for the time being, something Karak forgot to mention for anyone thinking of picking this up for the first time is that the remaster does come with the expansions for the original game already. So it's worth picking up if you've never played it before, but if you have played it before like me, then you already have the DLC and don't need it.
The biggest change is that loot and enemies level with you, instead of when you enter a zone for the first time (and then it would never scale, unlike the remaster). This is a crucial element as it almost forced you to play every area in an "OCD manner" - finishing up everything in a zone and ONLY then moving onwards to the next zone, otherwise all the content you would go back to would be under-leveled and loot would be practically worthless and whole areas of the game could become useless if you just toured the land.. I'd say for this change alone, it was worth the remaster!
Wow, finally someone saying it wasn't a big improvement in the graphics, barely retouched but at least runs a bit better, thank you, waiting like crazy for this review, and subscribed.
I'm assuming all the remaster bits will come with the new expansion that releases in 2021
This was my all time favorite game for the 360. Easily put 80+ hours into it with the DLC. If you haven't played it, you MUST play it. That said, will i buy and play it again? Not sure. I did absolutely everything in the game, so if not much has been revamped, I find it hard to want to do it all over again. There is a new DLC scheduled for January, but it's only 5 hours worth.
If I had never played the game, I would jump on it. sooo much fun. It's like an arcadey Skyrim. The fighting is definitely way better. If you have already played it, like mentioned in the video, wait for a sale.
I do hope they plan on making a sequel.
I loved this game when it first came out and I'm going to buy it again to show support to the IP, because I'm really hoping that THQ will start to expand on the IP.
One of the main reasons I'm getting is because I love the original game, and I'm hyped for KOA: Re-Reckoning, and I would love for THQ Nordic to expand on the IP.
I’ve wanted this to be re-released on PS4 for years! 😊
Gadflow? more like patron of the great clan battle-born. (voice actor overlap)
I like how you really enjoy the WoW, Fable aesthetic and music. Because I absolutely do not. Someone has to.
Thx for the honesty. Truly appreciate. Just as in 2012, I will notice the issues within the world of Amalur. And just like in 2012 I will overlook them bc the world is filled to the brim with beauty and the lore is deep. And who doesn’t like that topped off with a well designed God of War combat system!
For some reason Agarth always reminded me of Duncan from Dragon Age. I love this game, but i was hoping the remaster added jumping.
