Lao Oud is stellar! It feels like Dmitry & Russian Adam both made a chocolate coffee cake recipe, but they switched houses to do it. Lao Oud is a snapshot of the raw ingredients, and Russian Oud II is the silky mixed batter & frosting. I'm so happy I don't have to choose between them! Thank you for another great review.

Thanks for the in-depth reviews. I ordered eight different Bortnikoff samples and Laos Oud might be my favorite. I think that slightly funky "cheese" note you mention is what I love about it. Unfortunately, Oud Maximus wasn't available, but I'm keeping my eye out for that.
There's not a less-than-stellar one of the bunch, but my other favorites are probably Tabac Dore and Musk Khabib.
Sayat Nova is interesting - I love how it starts, with stewed apricots and something that reminds me of antique wood paneling in an old house, but over time it begins to remind me more of some exotic spiced tea, which I'm not quite as crazy about.
And I never thought I'd be into citrus/floral scents, but his Amber Cologne is really stunning.

Yes! This one is neck and neck with Oud Maximus for my fav Bortnikoff. You hit the nail on the head with your review, good sir! 🙏
I first had a decanting of the 2nd version and ended up with a bottle of the latest version with the rings around the cap neck, although not at the same time for direct comparison. Still smells amazing to me, fwiw! Not sure how he sustains these fragrances with our being so scarce. Props to Dmitry! 💪🏻 I wish he still made more like this though.

To me Oud Maximus is the ultimate Bortnikoff 🤟🏽💯 maybe Sir Winston would be the second. I don’t know why but Lao Oud didn’t do well on my skin, it smelled off putting somehow.

Hey Ram! If you will heat slowly the fragrance, those particles will dissolve. It is some of the raw ingridients has thickened likely due to transportation with lower temperatures. If you heat it up, it will dissolve and stay like this fine in the perfumers alcohol.
This happens to some fragrances with naturals, although rarely.
This also means that you might be missing a certain note there.
It is most likely the Cacao, or maybe some coumarine parts from Tonka. A natural cacao raw ingridient is white solid.

Interesting video - I ordered 6 Bortnikoff samples yesterday after seeing this. I just spent the last year doing a deep dive into Roja and PdV, so will be interested in what you have to say about the latter. I just wore PdV on a beach in Brazil and the citruses lasted all day, even when the coffee pokes through in the dry down. PdV 9 has a beautiful saltiness and otherwise reminds me of the Chanel Allure line. I have full bottle of 4,9 and 25 while I bought Essence Rare for my wife, now one her favourites.

Comparing Maximus, Lao Oud, and Monarch.
When I first tried, Monarch was best, then Maximus, and Lao.
Now 5 months later, I clearly enjoy Lao Oud the most.
Maximus has a creamy cheesy oud, but it got a bit boring fast
With Lao, I enjoy the bright aromatic accord of pink pepper and beeswax.
The chocolate is stronger in Monarch, but Monarch just gets too smooth and creamy.
With Lao, I get the district elements, yet all well blended and balanced.
I do enjoy the Areej classics for the reason you mentioned.
I agree that Lao is more remenisant of Russian Adam work. Mysterious Oud also reminds me more of Adam's bolder work.

Cheers Rams ,yeah this was the last Bortnikoff I have purchased in 2021, not been stirred since ,missed OG Triad and somewhat hesitant to buy latest version?? .Oud Maximus is a beauty, love the way he named it after his son Maximilian plus also doubles as maximum Oud profile at that time however he claims Lao Oud has got the most Oud oil to date now .looking forward to Oud Monarch.and wear your white gloves and stop messing up the plaques lol, Roja will be pissed 😡 hahaha, cheers man have a good one 🙏✌️👍

Great review! I am looking for an oud heavy fragrance to add to my collection. How does this compare to Tabac Doré? I am sampling lao oud and oud monarch atm. I find the latter somewhat too floral. Iam also interested in Tabac doré for the tabacco oud combo.

    • @RamseytheRam
      @RamseytheRam  6 місяців тому +1

I haven't reviewed tabac Dore on the channel yet but Lao Oud is much heavier on the animalic ouds and chocolate where tabac Dore focuses on the tobacco
