This one has a special place in my heart. It was my first real oud fragrance, and I was blown away by it. I totally get you like Lao Oud a bit more given your taste, and the two are neck and neck for me depending on mood. But I just love realistic rose so much that Oud Maximus has to take it most of the time, just by a smidge. Either way, can’t lose! Good point though that OM is better representation of the house. Lao Oud seems more like an outlier in style (more ALD-like) even given its similarities to Oud Monarch. Thank you for your hard work, Rams! Maybe you should start wearing a cape in your videos! 😂
I would not put Lao Oud over Oud maximus. Although Lao Oud is more oudy and bold. and I love it. I feel like oud maximus has everything that makes Bortnikoff great, with an incredible blend, Delicated and balanced . Wearable (yet bold) and beautiful oud, with many nuances. Not a simple composition by any means. People have associated ouds with always being bold and challenging when In reality thats not always the case,Specially when you dig into Oud oils.(the challenging oud are usually fermented Indian oud)If you want pure heavy oud experience, the way to go is attars/oils. Oud maximus is a beautiful composition done WITH oud. For me the oud in Oud Maximus is always present, is just not your typical indian and thats what I love about it, theres tons of Indian oud scents, Oud maximus is unique outside the Bort world, I also think it punches heavy over his weight class. Pristine, shiny, sparkling oud with charming spices and beautiful florals. Oud doesn’t have to be always dark and super animalic. In Nature, true oud is not as fermented or challenging like Traditional Indian. (Own autumn of 2019 bottle) But again, great video 🐏. Hopefully bortnikoff can come back to creating beautys like this one.
Hello, Ramsey! Amazing video as always, love your long detailed descriptions🔥🤝 I have a bottle of Oud Maximus Autumn’19 and it’s my fravourite from the house. It represents Dmitry Bortnikov’s skills the best, it’s a pure magic to my nose and brain. My most worn Bortnikoff fragrances are Triad and Musk Cologne, actually I love all my bottles of Bortnikoff 😄 Attar gulab is a rose Attar, so there are 5 types of roses in OM. Kabarga is a Siberian animal that is very similar to a deer, but with tusks and without antlers. Your Artisanal top 77 was exactly what I’ve been waiting for two years from you, it’s fantastic, you did a hard work ranking them 👌 Have a great weekend, cheers 🍻 Dmitry
Man do I love this fragrance, tho it took me good two or three months to get adjusted to it. I don't wear it often but when I do I always appreciate it even more. Thanks for the video Ramsey! Funny thing about the Fetish that I just absolutely loathed is now one my favourites, it wears on me so well at work haha.
Cheers Rams a triumph of a fragrance and an equally great review. I am lucky to have a wooden cap Autumn 2019 ( not 3019 😂) I can’t speak to anything other than this batch hopefully they are close and still great . I also always got the impression that his son Max was quite young ?? As in 10 years old kinda young ? No real clue can’t find anything on his son but not important. Much appreciated Rams have a great weekend buddy ✌️🙏👍
@@RamseytheRam aw now I get ya Rams didn’t realise he actually did some of the newer offerings. Cheers man it makes complete sense to me now no clue why I thought his son was a kid 👦??? 👍
Hello Ramsey, I'm a newbie in this world and I ordered two samples of oud monarch and oud Maximus. I'm confused because the intensity of the oud is pretty much the same in both for me. I've seen some reviews mentioning that the Indian oud at the beginning is massive, and then I saw your review saying that it's a little over the top, but that it has a little funky shade at the beginning, but I don't smell any Indian oud at all. All I smell at first are these beautiful realistic roses combined with Frangipani+magnolia. Could it be a reformulation, or is my nose broken? (Sorry if there are any mistakes. I used the translator)
I get a balance of florals (rose maybe) and Oud. Smooth and wearable stuff. Yes, there is more Oud in Lao Oud so I’m quite happy you changed your ranking. SOTD is Xerjoff Richwood, wonderful rose and chocolate fragrance.
I enjoyed Richwood....I reviewed it on the channel... it's probably the only other Xerjoff I would like a full bottle of ... but I want a vintage bottle 🍼
@@RamseytheRam found it (you mixed samples). Title: First Impression Video on Xerjoff Richwood #xerjoff #fragrance #perfume #cologne It took some time to warm up to Richwood, it is nice but way overpriced for me.
Mamimus I love, was going to blow this off because i tried his Oud Monarch yrs ago great unique scent loved the cocoa blend ,but weak as hell immediate skin scent within a hour but Maximus shifts every hour and lasts eternally !!!
Good morning! Love this after my first wearing. Been hoping to find something other than The Night, as you mention, to scratch that oud/rose itch, and this most certainly does that. Maybe something more animalic next, but this is beautiful. Sotd Amber Kiso.
I just smelled my decant of Oud Maximus. I was confused. With "Maximus" Oud I expected to be kicked into sweaty barn full of cheese, goats and flower bouquets, but this is so much more refined than I could ever have expected. Too heavy on the florals in the opening for me tho.
@@RamseytheRam I was recommended Mysterious Oud for being less floral and sweet, since Lao Oud is supposed to be quite sweet and chocolatey beneath the oud kick. Guess I need to get my nose on both. Thanks again for making me aware of this intruiging brand with your content!
Man! I have few words for those people who said the dry down is boring, thy this fragrance in the warmer weather. it needs some heat to shine. what a perfect blend!
"Kabarga" is how Russians call Siberian musk deer. I have smelled most of the Bortnikoffs, except attars and vetiver series. Lucky Oud probably was the most palatable to my nose. Amber cologne is well made, just not for me, can't stand white florals. All those shitty ouds I simply do not understand, that scent profile is too foreign and hostile to my olfactory palette. His other colognes is an ultimate sh*t, very childish and poorly blended. Sorry I feel like I often overshare random stuff and opinions that add no contribution to the channel, I solemnly swear to myself that I'll never ever EVER comment on the Bortnikoff or similar style perfumery anywhere on the internet! 🤐🤐🤐 lol Stick shift cars are the best! 🏎🚨
Most young uns can't drive em now days lol Although I learned on stick shift... my Beemer automatically allows the changing between gears ⚙️ without a clutch... but I miss he good old days
Yep same, I learned how to drive manual first. They're kinda fun. And yes modern CVT or electric direct drive makes it obsolete, but idk, it's just more fun. I don't think I'm ever going to be driving CVT, but will happily move to EV once the long range + quick recharge issues are going to be addressed. F* fossil poo

3 ml decant arrived today, my second real oud after dahn al oud shams, this is glorious! oud, rose, musk and civet together smell divine
I was really sceptical but the hype is real in this case
Glad to hear it! I love it too 🙂

Hope you are digging Bortnikoff week! A few more Bortnikoffs to go 🏃♂️💪🐏

I didn’t like this much as an oud fragrance but roses in there….whoa. I’m enjoying it more as a floral.
