The fact that Huntley said that "if only I'd kept the girls here longer" makes me feel that was exactly what he was subconsciously wishing he'd done, i.e. more time to enjoy the horrific acts he perpetrated to those poor girls. I have always believed that Maxine Carr knew considerably more than she has ever admitted to and has, definately, got away with her part in this horrific crime, virtually scot free, which will always disgust me.

Even in the Jennifer Pan case which has extremely divided opinions, she did a great job pointing out that her parents weren’t good at putting their love into practice and did plenty wrong, but still never blamed Jennifer's actions on them or even implied it was their fault, because nothing can ever excuse cold-blooded murder.

I grew up with a tortoise, he was called Tank 😊 and he was an absolute legend, i thought he would outlive us all. He was brought to the UK in the 60s, when they were shipped over to sell (not a happy start to life, i don't imagine). My mum was at school in the 60s and she got Tank to give to her mum, my grandmother as a gift. He was fully grown at that time so we don't know how old he was. But he died in 2012. It was devastating. I did illustration at uni, and specialised in children's books. I haven't used my degree as I moved to do psychology afterwards, but i did a mock up book of Tank, which I keep thinking I should try and get published. Hehe. Long live Tank 🐢

I vividly remember thinking about them when I was playing in my garden, wondering where they were, if they were coming back and how they had managed to disappear without anyone knowing where they’d gone because my parents always knew where I was (not a dig at the parents, just a child’s thoughts) Such innocence that it never even crossed my mind that somebody could’ve done anything bad to them.

What a heartbreaking story 😞 Ian Huntley is a monster and they way he was able to act more and more violently while law enforcement could have done something to stop it is unacceptable! The lives of these girls could’ve been spared if only the right people would’ve done their jobs. May we use this story as a cautionary tale to save future lives. 💔

When Emma talked about how children hold there parents to a higher standard and look to them for how to judge right from wrong and also boundaries it made me think of something my grandmother said to me which i think is very true and this was a great way to put it she said " IN A CHILD'S EYES A PARENT IS GOD " I didn't really understand what she meant until I grew into a adult and became a parent myself but now i totally get what she meant.

In my mind they could do anything and knew everything, it seemed like that anyway, I realised as I got older, parents don't know everything and they can't do everything lol, it never crossed my mind until I had questions for my mum for something, I wanted to know what certain words meant and she said she didn't know, I was furious, I thought she just didn't want to tell me until my dad explained they are just people and they don't know everything lol that's when it clicked and the magic was gone and the world felt quite scary lol.

I was a simular age to Holly and Jessica when they went missing. I was blonde and my best friend was brunette, and I can remember my grandma being terrified, she saw us in Holly and Jessica. I was scared too, I was just old enough to kind of understand what was going on. I can remember being in London with my dad during the searches, and waiting on a crowded platform to get on a train, and just clinging to my dad, worrying I'd be taken. Being a mother of 5, this case still terrifies me now. Our babies aren't safe, it's as simple as that.

My children were 7 & 4 the year this happened & I can recall feeling how distressing this would have been for the parents of both girls 🥲but no one can truly understand their pain & anguish unless we have walked in their shoes. I sadly lost my own son to suicide aged 17 in 2015. I walk the shoes everyday of a grieving parent my life changed the day he died. I have had to rebuild my life around the loss because the grief never leaves me, I can’t relate to the parents of these beautiful children in the same way but I do know they are incredibly strong & brave so I would like to commend the parents of any child taken too soon by a monster.

Out of all the crimes against children, this is one that really stood out with me. Two beautiful little girls with their whole lives in front of them, taken from their families so cruelly by that monster. This case really really hit me. I was 2 years younger than the girls. I think it was truly the first time I realised that some people have the capability to do things like this. When they were found I cried and cried as if I had known Hollie and Jessica personally. Me and my family walked the dogs after finding out and went to a graveyard and left them some flowers. After finding out whom was responsible as well as the girlfriend, that sting was even worse. It made me think how I automatically trusted teachers and general school workers etc. I definitely was anxious and on edge after that. Thoes poor girls. I wonder where they would be and doing what if this awful double murder hadn't happened. Also if Huntley had got away with it, would he of killed again? Years and years later I lived very close to Soham. When I heard it on a train announcement the memory of this case hit me like a ton of bricks!

Love how you do these Emma, especially this one. You add being a mother and a member of the public to being an expert and professional person whilst explaining and discussing these horrific cases. I think that allows us all a voice too and a way to let our anger, disbelief and fury be heard. I remember Holly and Jessica going missing and I prayed so hard that they would be found unharmed. My son was 11 and my daughter 6 at the time and I felt the pain and anguish of Holly and Jessica's families, especially their mothers. We'd flown on holiday to Portugal during the search and I couldn't wait to get the English newspapers every day to see that the girls had been found safe and well but as we all know that didn't happen. The memory of seeing the headlines that they had been murdered is still in my memory today. We've since had another son who is 14 and he knows about Holly and Jessica. When he was old enough to start going out on his own I told him that 'weirdos" can be in plain sight and told him their story, as I had my older two after it happened. It's hard to give your kids that advice without scaring the life out of them but this case helps to teach your children to be aware of potentially strange vibes and situations so they can make the decision to stay at arms length if they feel uncomfortable. That it's okay to leave a situation if it doesn't feel right. God bless Holly and Jessica. If Huntley had been prosecuted just once before these two beautiful girls had crossed his path, this would not have been able to happen. That in itself must be so hard for their families to fathom, let alone everything else.

You empathise with and are sensitive to those of us who suffer these harrowing experiences, we cling to that moment before our lives change forever and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it. When you feel your words in those scenarios of the 'sliding door' occasion. That moment that is captured is the last transient of hope, the light goes out. Emma or anyone else if you read this… The girl who’s involved in the February 1999 case, I relate to her a lot… I have a eating disorder, I used to self harm sadly but I haven’t self harmed in more than half a year happily, and omg I have extremely horrible OCD. My OCD makes me clean my clothes every day or every other day, it also makes me clean my room and house literally every day bcuz I can’t sleep if there’s even a tiny ass mess. Everything in my room needs to be in a certain spot or I feel so uneasy. If I watch TV the volume can’t be on an odd number, so if I turn it up to let’s say 90 I can’t do anytbjng but 90 or 95 or 100, but I usually have my volume turned up to 30 or 35 or 40, usually never more than 40. People who don’t suffer from OCD may think it’s not hard to live with and shit, but OCD is way harder to live with than alot of people think. OCD is actually really miserable and it makes my anxiety alot worse than it already is and I already suffer from high functioning depression and anxiety.

Youve quickly become my favourite true crime presenter, you add the gravity of the horror that befalls the lives effected.

I remember so clearly reading about them being missing in the paper when I was younger. I remember when they found Holly and Jessica and the sadness that flooded the country. I was only 12 at the time. This was the first case I ever remember. 20 years ago 💔

Emma you are wonderful. Thank you so much for this ‘insight’ into this monster. RIP beautiful girls. Hard to believe how incompetent our systems were just 20 years ago. Love and prayers to their heartbroken families. No doubt he will be getting his just deserts where he is, especially if his fellow prisoners watch this 😔😔😔😔😔
