- I found a 97 Geo Metro for sale at a good price $1400, I thought it would a great way to keep costs down as well as prolong the live of my truck by reducing the number of short trips to the hardware store for things like plumbing supplies and screws, with a minor tune up this car should get about 50 mpg's.
Good little cars. I wish they’d make something similar today.
The Mitsubishi mirage is the closest thing you can get, it’s even a 3 cylinder I believe
oh my! i never thought a geo metro could ever last to 230k. that alone is very impressive. a disposable car if there ever was one. best of luck
Yeah I’m sure many people used them as disposable cars but not me, I’m going to keep it for a long time, repair as needed and keep it going.
Great cars. Ive owned 5 so far. Congrats. Check your vacuum lines for leaks egr valve and evap solenoids for the rich mixture problem.
I will look into the egr valve and evaporate solenoids thanks for the tip. Yeah this is my second metro and I know they are very reliable and easy to keep going and very economical so it’s perfect for me. 😀
I have Geo Metro on my "must have" list from a a long time
I think it’s a great car to have 😀
@@frugallandlord6974 So far I have two predecessors of this model - Suzuki Alto SS80. However, I hope that I will find my Metro soon ;)
Some day I will import one of those egg shaped models.
This egg shaped car you can buy used, no need to import them. 😜
Five speed! Say no more....count me in! Great buy! 3 cylinder....sounds good to me...they left that last cylinder back at the factory.
Yeah it’s not easy to find a manual transmission anymore, I favor simplicity and reliability over anything else, my belief is that the new cars have become less reliable because they are too complex and too expensive to fix. 😀
Those who say it's similar to the Suzuki Swift: the Suzuki is the original vehicle and Geo was the American copy of it.
Yeah I believe it’s just a rebranded Suzuki swift.😀
Actually GM designed the 95-01 Metro and Swift for the north American markets using Suzuki components. This Swift version was never sold anywhere besides North America. I think GM sold the tooling to a Chinese company
@@gregg9672 I just got home from a trip to Vietnam and seen a new Suzuki swift so they are still being manufactured somewhere, I don’t believe that Vietnam imports cars from China, lots of Japanese cars though.
@@frugallandlord6974That's pretty cool. They built them in Pakistan years after they were not sold here. I believe a Chinese site sells new Suzuki G10 motors
Good luck with the new wheels. Check the air filter too. Sometimes a bad air filter can cause the engine to run rich. Good Luck!
Yeah for sure, thanks for the tip.😀
Not really. Check for a vacuum line leak under the air filter behind the carb.
@@kerosenefire8988 I put a vacuum gauge on it and it was perfect, I changed the intake air temp sensor and that may have helped the mpg a little but I still get the check engine light after 30 miles.
Metros are good cars.
Yeah very simple car, I prefer simple things, I guess I’m a simple guy 🤔
James May from The Grand Tour believes the Suzuki Swift (Geo Metro in North America) is the best everyday car in the world ever.@@frugallandlord6974
Built in Canada by CAMI Assembly
Yeah isn’t it a Pontiac firefly in Canada?
@@frugallandlord6974 yes there a Pontiac Firefly here when in live
The Pontiac Firefly yes and from 1985 to 1991 the Chevrolet Sprint. 1992 The Sprint was dropped for the Geo Metro. My channel features two Turbo Fireflys and a Turbo Geo Metro convertible.@@frugallandlord6974
I had a 1999 Suzuki Swift sister car to Geo Metro. I got 54 mpg driving 55 mph with 4 cylinder 5 speed.
That’s awesome, I wish manual transmissions weren’t so hard to find.
Might be the different transmissions causing check engine light. Definitely take it to a mechanic to have them check it. Sounds like its reving to high. Yes rich. Should get over 50 mpg as its the 3cyl. What oil are you using? Try Royal Purple 5w30.
The code for the check engine light says it’s a rich mix and I’m just running full synthetic Walmart oil, which I use in all my cars and trucks.😀
3 SPEED,??? WOW a lawnmower on wheels. Those are rare..congrets...hugs
3 cylinder, 5 speed and yes I believe some lawnmowers have as much power. I believe we are talking around 55 HP, most of these cars have been abused hard so yes they are hard to find in usable condition. 😀
My daily was my late mums car for 26 years. Same body style 1995 Suzuki Swift HB 4cyl 1.3 sohc 5pd ABS purple her name is Smudge! It's chipped the ECU so has more power. 213,xxxkm. Use thumb tacks for now for the headliner! Tape deck! A/C sucks power you don't want it! Faded dash Same just re paint it when you can. Your missing the security cover for the trunk area. Mine was stolen in 2004 so I got one on fb for $20! Dealers want $650! Yes it's best to go from 155 to 175 I got that done in 2006. Handles better. My differential blew at 207,000km $1864 job but worth it for me as its going to last for years. It's the transmission must of been changed. Probably the 4cyl one they put in it. Invenested $4k + in 2 years and love her! Cheap on gas. I get 37-39 mpg city 40-44mpg hwy.
Yes the 993cc 1.0 L3 puts out 55HP and 54 torque. And the max fuel capacity of 10.6 gallons. I got a 1998 chevrolet metro 2 door 1.0 L3 5 speed. Red. These metros are hard to destroy if you take care of them! 🙂
$1,400 is a good price
Upload some more remodeling videos. Please
Yeah for sure, I have more videos in the works 😀
Have you ever read the book “The Millionaire Next Door”?
Yeah I have, a long time ago.😀
He's a billionaire now
Yeah the vents brake, i want to reaplace mine! Shcoked why no tachometer! I have one and no rear wiper.
Yeah this one seems pretty bare bones, like no options were included when they built this one, but I’m ok with everything, except I don’t enjoy using the key every time to open the hatch, there is no hatch release.😀
94 and earlier are better.
I have heard people say the mileage is a little better, besides that what make the earlier ones better?
I got a 94
@@user-cp3kp5fs2k cool my parents bought a 1990 when they first came out and it was a 4 door hatch, you don’t see many of them around.
@@frugallandlord6974 mines cherry... vintage... I popped a few 🍒 myself in one these bad boys im 41 and mid life crisin..hard...
The pre 95 is lighter, but you may have window regulator failure etc. The newer are safer in crashes
