  • The Mavic Pro has been unlocked and hacked to fly higher than 500 Meters. However, it has many risks and I discuss this. This unlock also unlocks GPS features, Sports Mode features, NFZ, and more. Also to make it clear, I was not the one flying the drone in this footage.
    I would give "credit" to the original flyer, but he removed the footage and turned himself into the authorities. ► See Here: • Police Called over Ill...
    Also, decided to remove the link to the "how-to." I decided it was irresponsible to do so.

    Many of us who want to exceed the 500m limitation do so because we fly in the mountains. I have flown my P4P all over Europe and some of my mountain footage is pretty good but could have been a lot better if I had actually been able to get over many of the peaks. I can usually drive to within 2500 to 3000 feet of the top but that's not close enough. I need another 300m.

      is correct, we need to do that too bcause i live next to Rila, which is up to almost 3000 m high. Not in open space but for mountain photography. We fill in our mobile phone number for aerial identification as well if the police needs us and we can show that we only did scientific things with the drone. +je

    So far your one of the few bloggers that is at least being honest. Yes it's cool to go up high but it's also unsafe in many situations. You stated most of the facts correctly but these guys are still trying to give you a hard time! No hack is needed to do the modifications, it's all very simple and involves changing the limits in the Assistant software and writing them to the Mavic. You don't even need an internet connection and you don't have to write firmware to the Mavic. It's just using Assistant and changing the parameters.
    Keep up the honest reviews.

At that moment your no longer line of sight. Could you imagine at that altitude that one wind blast could put you off course for miles. Not worth all the risks involved in my opinion.

    If you check DJI website (phantom 4) it states Max Service Ceiling Above Sea Level 19685 feet (6000 m). So yes the phantom 4 can easily and safely go over 400ft 👍 and yes they are limited to 400ft depending on your location.I've seen my friends take there phantom 4 to an altitude to over 2,000ft running bone stock firmware. • @danieltinelli608
    @danieltinelli608 5 років тому +1

    Jeremy, piloting above 400 ft isn't a 'restriction', it is an FAA guideline. Planes normally have a floor of one mile. You mention that it is possible to kill a plane full of people. No evidence has been given to show that a drone like these could damage a plane any more than a bird strike. Which are frequent. In any case, that would mean, realistically, that the drone would be at an altitude where a larger plane would fly. Being very generous, you would need to be, probably, at 20k feet or above. I don't fly very high, I have fixed wing knowledge and am not saying everyone should start flying as high as they can (what's the point with a camera drone? Once is enough. And, you can already see what it look like on here) but, try and tone down the drama.

      @kysco 2 роки тому

      You can easily go down from 4000 m using less than 10% remaining battery (by simply unlocking the 3 m/s downward speed to something like 8 or even 12 m/s) You have to be carefull tho, not to get caught in your own downwash flow when you start to slowdown the descent... the easiest way to avoid that is moving forward (prefferably against the wind).

    There is only one official crash between a drone and a commercial airliner in North America and that's in Qubec Canada.Apparently there has been quite a few reports to the FAA in the US but when investigated it was shown to be birds and other things.Also the encounter caused only minor damage to the airliner.Although I do understand the potential for a serious catastrophic drone and plane encounter.It just simply hasn't happened yet and I think quite a lot of people bypass restrictions and go well over 400ft for the law and 500m for the DJI height restrictions.

    Jeremy thank you for sharing these thoughts, I personally do not advocate anyone breaking the rules. I believe that if the trend of not flying safe continues and people do not promote safe, legal flying continuously through these videos the CAA and FAA will eventually require everyone to be licensed and having just completed a course to become a licensed pilot I can tell you it will really put a bummer on the hobby for those who can't afford the cost of licensing. Please please encourage people not to break the rules, your video footage looks fantastic and very tempting but the illegality just isn't worth the risk. If the drone fell out of the sky from such a height and hit someone it would without a doubt result in a fatality and that is what I was waiting for you to say, but you didn't and in my humble opinion that is what we should be the most concerned about it would fall like a brick!

In order to keep the regulations at a proportionate level for these small drones, a set of specific, simpler, regulations apply to aircraft that have a mass of 20kg or less (which are termed ‘small unmanned aircraft’ within the ANO).
      In simple terms, these regulations state that:
      you are responsible for flying your drone in a safe manner
      you must keep the drone in your direct sight at all times while it is flying, so that you can ensure that it does not collide with anything, especially other aircraft
      you must not endanger anyone, or any thing with your drone, including any articles that you drop from it
      if your drone weighs more than 7kg, additional rules apply if you fly in certain types of airspace and you must not fly above 400ft above the surface
      If your drone is fitted with a camera, there are also a number of additional limitations surrounding where you can fly it, and how close you can fly it to other uninvolved people or objects. In order to be able to fly within these areas, or closer than the minimum distances that are in the regulations, you must obtain prior Permission from the CAA to do so.
      However, the law [at ANO article 94(3)] requires that the person in charge of a drone must maintain direct unaided visual contact with the aircraft which is sufficient to monitor its flight path so that collisions may be avoided. This is obviously not possible if that person is wearing video goggles or otherwise constantly monitoring a display.
      Please pay particular attention to the statement "and you must not fly above 400 feet above the surface" (the exact reason why DJI set the limitation to 120 metres on the height)
      For the US please read this document that came into effect 29th August 2016 it is very clear on the rules that apply, VLOS at all times and not to fly above 400 feet. These rules are freely available for anyone to read and I would recommend you do so to avoid promoting what is in fact unsafe flying practices not to mention illegal

      Deane Tim I like this post. Too many people getting on this guy. I know exactly how the DJI Mavic Pro is modified to do this. Many things you can do. It’s a bin file in firmware but it requires some work and most people will not be able to do it. Unfortunately the industry is blowing up. Amazons drones can’t fly above 400’. So drone traffic is gonna get risk below 400’. Strict licensing is probably on its way. I don’t think it can be avoided.
      Another thing I’d like to add. DJI did a piss poor job securing things. So much in fact the government and military has banned use of any DJI product until the company fixes their flaws. (U.S.A). Police departments were using the products. I know 2 other countries have done the same. DJI hired an outside security firm to reorganize. I’d agree with it as well. The firmware and software is sloppy.
      It’s gotten better since it’s inception. But DJI didn’t fully understand the can of worms they were opening till now. I also remember telling everyone to update their drones. People didn’t or found ways to save the older firmware. That helped find ways to push the limits. Nobody’s doing this on recent firmware for the most part lol. Some of it can be done.
      The Mavic does have a ceiling of about 16,000 feet. DJI publishes that. It’s software/firmware and a barometer that limits it.
      I’ll repeat one thing unless you’ve done some programming or debugging I’m not worried. The average person won’t be able to do it. The tutorials out their still require computer knowledge. But yes I will say it’s not hard and DJI opened themselves up to a lot of it. They could of put things in place to make it more secure. I gurantee they are doing that now.
      *I mean DJI built in a back door to DJI assistant for programmers. It was locked on the consumer side. Program files a few tweaks welcome to debugging. Are you serious? Lol their should of been two different types of programs for that.
      But just like a computer virus. If it can be programmed someone will program it to do something else. No stopping it. Only reducing it.
      I blame DJI a lot but lol. They’ll get their. Many companies mess up with Tech in the beginning. I remember when Netatmo WiFi Weather stations were broadcasting WiFi passwords unencrypted. I remember hacking my Belkin Wemo Camera. Amazons new front door package delivery has a glitch. DDOS attack on router and the delivery guy can rob you as it’ll freeze the Amazon Cloud Camera.
      So we can’t point fingers. We just gotta make things more secure. And for those that do modify their drones hopefully do it with in the law. You can get 50 Mph at sacrificed battery drain out of that same file. That’s not illegal. Violates warranty that’s about it. I haven’t done it to mine. I just don’t care for it. But I just wanted to chime in since I know the game and I know why he explained it.
      They are the frontier on drones. Tesla is the frontier on electric cars. Unfortunately companies that start it always suffer. We find the issues as we go. And if we don’t the company fails and somebody else does it better.
      Right now, DJI is after security and gov. They produced all these drones now they want to know where they are going and what they are doing and lock things down. It’s a smart move. They won’t make it with out then contributing to the government and FAA etc as yeah drone traffic is gonna spike and hard by 2021

      But flying in the mountains is not a safety issue. There's nobody around to bother. I even ran out of juice one time a crashed in the snow. Broke a prop and that's all. Let me fly as high as I need to in the mountains. As I said before, I don't want to fly higher than 400 ft above the land below me, but DJI places the 500m restriction based upon where you take off. I'd rather have a 400 ft restriction above the land where the drone happens to be.

    I can understand the warnings, and even the link to the video, but why link to the how to the how to. Actually, you are wrong, airplanes are designed to take a strike from a small bird, but planes have had to make emergency landings from a goose or other large bird striking either their windshield or engine. Planes are not designed to withstand a strike with a metal object when the plane is flying 200 - 500 miles an hour, at such a speed the drone basically becomes a missile when it strikes the fast moving plane. When it is proven an airplane does bring down an airliner, you can bet the restrictions the FAA already has will be even more restrictive. It's just like everything from offroading to gun ownership, it only takes a few idiots to ruin it for everyone else.

    There's a very good/legal/ethical use for flying higher than 500m above the takeoff point...that's to fly up along rising terrain/mountains, to a height greater than 500m above the takeoff point, while also remaining well within 400 feet of the ground. And yes, this can still be line-of-sight, esp around sunrise and sunset, with a light or strobe mounted to the Phantom/Mavic/whatever.
    I live in mountainous terrain, and have been limited by the 500m restriction. Hopefully someday DJI will make the altitude limit DYNAMIC by using a GPS terrain database so their drones always know how far above terrain it actually is, instead of just using a blanket restriction of altitude above the takeoff point.
    Using a GPS terrain database would also keep folks from flying off a mountain top out over a valley and being several thousand feet above terrain, or (and this has happened to me), if the drone loses signal/whatever while flying up the side of a mountain, and initiates an RTH, it won't do what it does now: fly horizontally til over the home point (which would put the drone WAY over 400 feet above the ground), and THEN descend. Instead, it can descend as the terrain descends.

    I fly in the mountains. If I fly no higher than 400 ft above the peak, I am still perfectly legal. The problem is: I CAN'T GET TO THE PEAK FROM DOWN ON THE SIDE OF THE MOUNTAIN IN A CAR! The DJI height limit is based upon where you take off. And even though I fly right up the side of the mountain, when I reach 16t37 ft I am still not near the top. DJI should provide a non-barometric pressure based altitude assessment to circumvent this.

    I took my Platinum up to 1649 ft., but I did it at nighttime on a clear night, this way you can see if any planes or helicopters are coming and have a chance to get out of the way. Plus I had a strobe light on, which is supposed to be visible up to 3 miles away. Also, I had my front LED'S on, which I still could easily see at 1649 ft., and the same thing for the back flashing green light, so I feel I was being very safe and cautious. I didn't fly far away from me neither, I pretty much stayed straight above me.

    • @alexurbach7035
      @alexurbach7035 7 років тому

      Legally, 400 feet is not the limit. 400 feet is only a guideline written by the FAA, it's once you fly into Class E (700 feet or 1200 feet depending on the area) airspace or any airspace set fourth by an airport that it becomes illegal. The 400 feet guideline is to keep all aircraft safe and should definitely be followed, but it's not illegal. However if you get caught the FAA can push to have you charged with reckless endangerment which is a felony.

    When i use my drone i can here if there are any aeroplanes around. i know where the light planes fly and no airliners fly low over my area. i get that it could be risky and have potential for something terrible to happen if your drone is way up in the clouds. i dont do it. with this you have to do the modifications. what i still don't get is how the automotive industry can sell vehicles that allows the uses to travel faster than the road rules allow. in australia the top speed you're allowed to do is 110km/h. Not sure about the Northern Territories. but performance motor vehicles can do, what, +300km/h? Holden HSV? Ford FPV? Porsche? Top speed of? Hundreds of people die each year in my country with speed being the main cause, who knows what the total for the world is, each year. Who knows how many thousands are injured! I wonder what percentage is due to going over the speed limit. About the only limit to speed placed on how fast a vehicle can go is based around mechanical design and price. Oh, and people are using motor vehicles for terrorist attacks. they've done so in Melbourne and they've done so overseas. Surely, someone is complaining about these motor vehicles, right? i just haven't heard.

      Mark G this is exactly the point I've been trying to make, commenting on these videos. Well said my friend! In my opinion, and I'm pretty sure I'm right, these regs have nothing to do with Public Safety of any kind. They don't want you going above the clouds. Period. Operation Solar Shield is in full effect and they want to keep anyone from seeing it until they got a chance to spin it to match their narratives. Anyone who doesn't know what I'm talking about, go start doing some research. And whatever you do stay away from mainstream media because it's nothing but lies and it's proven on their own documents. the mainstream just doesn't talk about it

  • @roypatterson9910
    @roypatterson9910 4 роки тому

    The height limit is there so you don't kill anyone! If you are flying above the 400 ft maximum altitude limit, then a plane crashes into your drone and causes it to crash, then your ass is in trouble! I was flying my Mavic Pro Platinum up at 395 ft at night, and then there was a helicopter flying around not far from me, I'm sure he seen me, because I had a strobe light on my drone, which could be seen for up to 3 miles away, plus my light on the back that flashes green, then the two red LED'S on the front, so you can see it pretty good. So any planes should be able to see me easily at night, maybe you should do this kind of stuff at night, that way your drone will be seen much easier by aircraft, unlike during the daytime.

    I know a bit about aviation and this guy is wrong. Drones can reach that kind of altitude with no issues (performance wise) but it's dangerous because there's a higher risk of colliding with lower altitude air traffic (helicopters, light or ultralight aircraft, lower altitude military training flights and so on). A drone falling from 500m will do about the same damage as a drone falling from 1000m because they reach the same terminal velocity.
