RIP to your mental state during that rivet edit, unless you're the sort of masochist that likes that sort of thing. Excellent use of person plastic, too!
I had you there rubbing my feet... that helped
Bill may be addicted to rivets and rust. You have to stage an intervention.
We all worry for Bill
I will overpower him
I can’t imagine placing all those rivets
I missed the window for christmas wire at my dollar store, but hoping I can grab some valentine's wire.
isn't that just cable ties ?
No
I prefer Halloween wire, but depending on the project sometimes
I use Easter wire.
🐏
Don't forget Valentime's handcuffs!
Now that I've seen your cat, I can't help but imagine your wife and child as similar constructs made of paper and plasticware.
Shh
what if bill is some deranged maniac who lives in an attic and his family is made out of scratch-builds
@@bagea I'm all for it
🤣🤣🤣🤣😂
@@bagea What if Bill used to have a wife and child, but then he kitbashed them ...
Uncle Bill, this one had a super nice look-n-feel to it! And the RESULT is the part that always grabs me.
I tried to watch this one as a regular viewer, not thinking about the editing and such involved. (OH, and I commend you for the shot changes. I know that mess is frustrating, but it really does add value to the video.) Excellent!
Thank you mate. As you know ... as an editor. How can you not think about it.
You guys make me love the crafting community even more
Reading your comments I Hear your voice! Not loud & clear but quite & mumbly!
It's Impossible not read this in your voice
My favourite part was when you said you'd put some rivets on your spaceship but ended up putting a spaceship on your rivets
very good
love it "Not going to tell you what every piece of junk is" - proceeds to tell us where he got every bit of junk
I was preparing you... but turned out I knew them all anyway
Did you buy the cat from two guys in van that looks like a dog?
yeah... Boris was there
I love Cat. everytime the camera switches to it I can't help but laugh, it looks so hilarious
good good
Needs more cleavage if you want views imo
Exactly, it is the comic timing involved. We thirst for post modern comic relief, and Bill proved he could build it from scratch!
Loved the stop motion riveting sequence. The Santa scheme had a lot of character, I think if the undercoat had been black instead of silver, you might have been happier with it. Very pleased you included the problem with the scheme and the repaint, its nice to see the journey you took!
The undercoat was definitely the main problem
I love spaceships that look like someone riveted a few old planes together then decided it should go to space.
Thats my style
The black textured things used for the landing gear are called window packers/spacers. They're used to center double-glazed units in the frame, And after using them on a daily basis for years I have never thought "they might come in handy for my 40k terrain" until now. Thanks, Bill.
thanks for informing me
@@BillMakingStuff If you know anybody that does windows, ask for some. They should have a bucket full in their van of various thicknesses.
@@Chursto window fitters vans are a great source for empty silicone tubes, nozzles, all sorts of stuff. The glue they use is incredible! My brother is a window fitter.
Really appreciate when crafters show their fuck ups and when they aren't happy with something they've made/painted. We all do it we've all been there. Looks great second time around! Reminds me of Starbug from Red Dwarf a little! Also first episode featuring Cat, convenient... I'm onto you Bill.
Good call repainting it, looks really good now. You should try gouache sometime instead of oil paints (not sure if you have already). Might help with your cancer situation, reducing it that is.
has Nick paid you to say that?
@@BillMakingStuff technically, yes
The stop motion riveting xylophone pullback was magnificent!
thanks
I would say it was riveting.
@@hor1zonstr1der9 U deserve Way More Likes than that for this comment!
@@hor1zonstr1der9 haaaaa! very good hahaha
I feel like Cat just brings so much life to the channel, like it was the missing part of your videos
...thanks
Great save on the paints! That moment when you lean back and look at a paintjob that's gone pear shaped is such an awful feeling, but pulling off the save makes it feel like a hero move :)
Cat seems pretty needy.
it is... needy twat
I love Cat, his slapstick-esque humor is the perfect foil to your straight manning
I guess
I never comment because apparently social anxiety isn't limited to in-person interaction... but adding to the avalanche of comments was just too tempting. Kickass build, as usual - and bloody bonkers editing with the rivets. Love that we can see how much you care about your builds and their presentation!
glad you liked it
It's great that you showed that the original paint job didn't work, most people just cut that part out of the video but it shows us beginners that its OK to start over if you don't like how it looks
I just found your channel today and I'm loving it! it's so cool to see the transformation from a bunch of random pieces of trash to an incredibly detailed and beautiful work of art. Your videos are really calming and definitely have a unique charm. Will definitely be watching more!
This looks really really cool. I can't tell you the toll it takes on my mental health when I make something cool then accidentally paint it like a piece of garbage. Definitely a fan of the vehicles/ships genre of your videos
it did... then I repainted it
Thank you. The painting thing makes me feel better. After every mistake I make, I'm a wreck. It's nice to see that not everybody loves every part of their process for doing things & mistakes happen. Leave them in every time for my part. Oh yeah, I love your new cat. Keep that fellow around. He literally makes the video.
Thank you
Bravo. I recently decided to start scratch building starships and popped onto UA-cam to see how others were doing it. Yours was the 1st I've watched, and I must say I am astounded at what a stellar midel you turned out. I am stoked for starting my own, this weekend. Cheers!
I love watching your videos and sewing to them. I have major ptsd and anxiety and your content is something that I’ve found really calms me down :) thank you for making videos 💕
Looks great, Bill! You're making me want to get into Stargrave. Very inconvenient!
I'm sorry
I love Stargrave! No apologies

Since you said you will answer all comments: Have you ever tried water mixable oil paint for oil wash? I switched to water mixable for paintings and tried once to make oil wash but I think it looks sticky (shiny)… The benefit is not having to use mineral spirits.
Are the miniatures standing under the ship to show it's scale, or is it cause you forgot to model any passenger doors?
Nice build though very chunky battle star galactica fighter that ate too much like the red car in the old animated milkyway advert.
: )
Nope
Hmmmmm, me thinks i smell cats**t lol
Love your vids keep up good works
Bill! I just bought my first Star Grave set! The Mercenaries pack! Should I kit bash it and what type of paint should I use??
Sawdust flock recipe: 59mL craft paint, 180g saw dust, 120ml water (rinse the paint pot out to get the last bit of the paint out of the tube). Mix it all up in a steel bowl, spread on parchment paper and put in an oven to dry at its lowest temp (usually a few hours or so). Then sift it through a wire mesh basket.
Thata mate. Was gonna ask
Hey Bill, great build!! Yeah I agree repainting did the trick. Love what you do. Can't wait for the next build.
Thanks
Love the build! Looks like the smeghead child of the dropship from Aliens and Red Dwarf's Starbug 😃
It does!
I was getting such Red Dwarf vibes from this ship ❤ But the red was way too shiny, like if Cat had been in charge of the paint job.
The Red Dwarf Cat, not Bill's cat.
Heh, heh, I am so glad, I am not alone with thinking the first paint was giving off a red dwarf vibe.
You know, I actually really liked that red metallic look; I thought it was really colorful! Though I do also like the green as well. A excellent build!
Yuck
My only wish is to one day experience as much joy as Bill does for placing rivets...
I do appriciate that you keep in your mistakes in the video, makes you seem more human. That first paintjob feelt bad to watch, but it turned out great in the end.
Few mistakes can't be corrected or mended
I wished this video was around when my professor had us make bottle ships for a project. This would have help with inspiration and see how to use junk into a ship.
This is the second video that I have watched on your channel. I never like videos, and I am selfish with my subscriptions, and I certainly do not write in the comments. Sir, you got all three with that cat. You are by far my favorite maker. God bless and keep doing what your doing.
Has a very Red Dwarf/Star bug feel to it. Which is awesome.
I am a fan
I am probably the only person who liked your first completed paint job.
The design, as well as the color scheme, reminded me of Slave-1. A pretty cool ship.
Your repaint looks great. I think it would have been nice if you kept a few of the repaired sections of panelling that shiny, metallic red. They are repaired sections using whatever metal they can find. 😉
Plus, after your wash, it would have toned down the shinyness, too.
I love your builds, your channel, and your new cat, Spork. 🥰
I love kittimies. 🐱❤
Thank you for sharing this with us all.
Be Excellent to each other and to yourself. Party on, you bead-head, you. 😁🤘🎸😎
Thank you very much
@@BillMakingStuff You're very welcome. 😎🌈
Well done, it looks great. I've got a plastic trash ship that I've built but not painted yet, so enjoyed seeing your process, even including the 'mistake' that you fixed well.
Awesome build, the influences shine through. Quick question, are you saving for the therapy you'll need from doing those stop motion rivet sections?
The rivet section was the therapy
I love your videos! I just found your channel, and I thought Cat was going to be in all of them! Imagine my surprise when I find out he's new in this one! You definitely found the key to getting subscribers with your cat. I wish I could afford to subscribe to your patreon, but since I can't, I'll be sure to recommend your channel to anyone who likes crafting and miniature stuff. You and Cat are going to be keeping me company while I do chores and exercise, lol.
I really appreciate how much time you take to describe what you did and why. So far, this and the base/flocking episode are my favorites. The christmas colored spaceship had me laughing out loud. Don't worry too much about including tips at the right time in the video. I appreciate every bit of advice you have to give. I really wish I could craft with a bunch of junk, but I don't have the space to keep all that, so I'm living vicariously through your amazing videos.
Those hole-punched rivets from plastic is a neat tip I'm gonna have to try sometime! I started accumulating other forms of rivets for my 40K Ork builds: the colored diamonds from the sticky diamond crafts, miniature specialty beads from the craft store jewelry section (Czech beads, if I recall correctly; they come in a thin plastic tube), the nipped ends of cross stitching mesh lengths, and tiny pearl pasta. I've also seen people make molds for rivets.
I suppose there's more than one way to make a rivet. :P
Makes me wanna make some of this stuff for DnD campaigns
why not?
37? in a row?
Those plastic rectangles are probably wedges, used for example in leveling and fixing position of new window frames. What's great about them is that they come in a wast variety of thicknesses. Thicker ones look like prefabricated concrete walls :) I myself discovered them not so long ago and haven't seen them in any crafting video till now!
Thanks for the info!
@@BillMakingStuff Just googled them- they are called glazing packers ;)
I've been pretty sick lately, and your videos are the perfect easy watching content that I love. It's so cool to watch your process, and it helps me burn away the time I'd otherwise spend just lying around. I'll always be eagerly awaiting your next upload! :D
Glad you like em
Awesome as always Bill, also that cat is so cute I want to see him more
he'll be around... unless he dies somehow. It's possible.
One of my favourite ever channels on UA-cam. So inspiring.
Please keep on doing what you're doing, and thanks for sharing.
Thanks for sharing this - we really appreciated the part where you showed how you recovered for messing up the paint job. We are now saving all out junk.
Awesome video! Really enjoyed watching you make and paint the model.
I really like this one. At one point I thought it was too much, but after the (second) paint job it ... happened. I love it when a plan comes together! 😀 Greetings from Switzerland - Andrew 🍁☕️
thanks Switzerland
Wow you’re work is so incredible! I can’t wait to see more of your stuff.
This was the first video I've seen of yours and you've earned a new subscriber! The ship is wonderful and the editing is just as whimsical, meticulous, and artistic.
With regards to the glue fumes, it may seem a bit excessive but you should consider installing an extractor fan to exhaust the fumes outside and it will draw in fresh air (as well as continue to wear the respirator with the correct filter for glue volatiles).
Wow! I’m really impressed with the final product. The rivets looked like they must have taken quite a while to apply, but it makes those metal plates so much better. This is the first video of yours that I have seen. I will be subscribing and checking out some of your older content.
welcome aboard
Great job!!! I miss the rust, but I guess not everything can be rusty.
I have watched a lot of ur videos now. love the editing btw! you have really inspired me to make stuff out of stuff and paint it pretty colours. Idk if it's weird to say but it feels varry freach to see a personality like yours, so thank you Ig.
If I weren't already subscribed I definitely would have for Cat. Also, I like seeing people including mistakes and such because it's super helpful to see how they fix them. Seeing folks deal with muck ups gives wonderful examples and inspiration for how to fix your own
Glad you got something from it
Don't ever change, Bill.
No, seriously, your production values are fantastic and your comedic timing is spot on.
I'd like to watch you make a scratch-built metal windmill. You could even, I don't know, make it look rusty. Just to mix things up a bit, you understand.
I understand
So glad you ended up painting it green. I was trying SO hard to like it when it was red, and I just couldn't quite force myself to enjoy it. Good decision! Love your sense of humor.
I found this video quite riveting....
In seriousness, you've been an amazing inspiration in building creating stuff, and the adding the rivet greebles honestly made me smile. Keep up the awesome videos!
I really like your work!! Awesome spaceship.!! Greetings from Argentina.!!
I can give a good tip on how to make rivets for you! if you find thinking baking foil or yoghurt pot lids something along them item's your the other end of your micro drill bit's and get a rubber for under the foils and press the end of your drill bit through and you have instant rivet heads already rounded beveeld! we use this alot in our armour builds!
the cheap metal trays from pound shop you get 10 for a £1 are perfect for punching the rivet heads from!
Not enough rust and dust! All seriousness, that's an awesome build. It never ceases to amaze after you all throw, stick, pound, glue, cement, screw, nail, and hope stuff together and then the magical medium of paint ties it all together. Speaking of spaceships, do you know of EvE online? Those ships were made for you, Bill. If you ever wanted to look at some rust ships for some ideas, check out the Minmatar. I believe I've seen them mentioned before in past videos, but you said you would answer every single comment and I'm just trying to make you read a lot. I think I forgot my question. Huh.
Yep no question there
I always find it fascinating how it starts from a cobbled pile of garbage, and then the paint just transforms it so much. This vid makes me want to try this out. but I would need tools though.
Very happy I found your channel (by way of Young Studson). Excellent build. I am about to start in on this hobby as well (midlife crises can be much more expensive than kitbashing and minis) and I love you leaving in your mistakes; lowers my anxiety for sure. Cheers!
Holy stick - Bill is still liking and responding to comments on the video after all this time. A man of his word he is.
Nah
Bill, great build, it fits in great with the characters. I feel the change of colour was the right idea, at the end. plus love all the ideas, in crafting/building you do. Also a star is born, the cat, spot on! I hope you keep the cat around. :3
I guess a pet is for life
This is so inspiring, made me want to scratch build something. I especially like how you mentioned Adam Savage, who seems so untouchable with all of his skills and knowledge and his beautiful workshop. The junk you threw together is all the little bobs I wish I had a use for and my packrat mind wants to save. This seems doable, but not easy.
give it a go
Dearest Billiam,
You are doing such a wonderful job, keep it up!
Bestest Regards,
Me
You can DIY superglue activator/accelerator. 1/4 teaspoon baking soda dissolved into 150ml water. Put it in a spritz bottle and apply a light mist to one surface and glue to the other.
CA glue needs moisture to set, and humidity in the air is usually where that comes from. A light mist of water can speed up the process especially when the air is dry. CA glue is also acid stabilized, so the baking soda neutralizes that acid and causes the glue to set more rapidly.
You can substitute isopropyl alcohol for the water since that still has water in it, and you only need a tiny amount of moisture. The benefit is the IPA will dry/evaporate faster, but being a solvent it might discolor or damage some surfaces.
thats a great tip, I'll have to try it
I love that you included the mess up. I really try not to hide how bad I screw up on my art. So it's great to see that people I look up to go through the same things I do during a project!
Also the patience it must have taken to add all those rivets, MY GOD
Whats wrong with me
@@BillMakingStuff
I... I don't have a psychiatric degree I am so sorry
Hi Bill. Love the video. Not sure if someone has mentioned it before but the black textured rectangles you use are spacers used for laying laminate flooring
Bloody awesome Bill, I've been saving this vid till i could watch it with out interruption and im so glad i did 😀
Glad you liked it
This is so damn awesome! I have only built stuff with XPS foam before, this is really inspiring me to reuse junk.
Amazing build! Love watching your videos. Keep up the great work!
Thanks
To save yourself a lot of work (in the past) since you got 2 of the same wooden cheese board thing. You could drill a hole straight through one and then saw out the shapes and then epoxy/glue them together so the whole one forms the base of the "holes"
Great video, as always. The patience with those rivets… kudos. You’re also great at recycling.
Thank you
I love found items and repurposing "trash"! You did fantastic here. I went to a store today called The Repurpose Project. Their whole store is filled with things like plastic caps and scraps, metal scraps, old silverware, cloth scraps, broken toys, just SO MUCH plastic, metal, wood, etc. Do you have store like that near you? Where do you get all your "trash"?
I'm a gardener and wow I find SO much junk. My room is about 50% bits and junk that I often just look at in awe I love it all. I have a dream to make a spaceship just like this but I'm afriad to do so.... One day I'll get the confidence lol. Lovely space ship.
Just do it. Its only junk
Really liked the final result and the repainting; excellent build!
Thanks
I discovered your Chanel by accident and I'm so happy about it! That makes me want to get started right away and I've finally found a reason for my "Exciting finds" box.
Glad you stumbled in
Great work! I loved the green version in the end, it's always fun to watch your process!
Thanks
Great learning!!
the end result is great love the olive green it is one of my favorite vallejo greens. carmine red is one of the stronger reds closer to a crimson like the game color scarlet red. If you attempt another red ship in the future I would suggest either starting from hull red or burnt cadmium red. both are more saturated and you might find the end result more pleasing
Thanks for leaving your mistakes in the video, i feel like they're the best way to learn. On top of that, when watching creative people at work on youtube there's always a focus on making everything look like it's perfect at the first try, when in reality the whole creative process is filled with mistakes, doubts, backtracking etc, i think it's important to show the journey, not just the result.
Much appreciated
I think the "cat= more views" thing makes total sense. Many people who hate cats also won't respect your boundaries. With this often comes a dislike of anything creative or disinterest in exploration (emotional or otherwise). Of the people I know, the nicest people (who also are animal lovers) love many things creative and are most drawn to channels where the person has a cat. It gives off "this person is safe and will respect your boundaries" vibes. And many YT creators who hate cats give off an aggressive vibe which deters people from their channel.
Very nice bill. Have you tried matt and satin varnishes on your acrylics. Knocks them right back. You can use it to create different effects and textures and helps with your oil wash
I really like it, the paint job was so much better the second time. Reminded me of something out of Red Dwarf. Maybe that will be a good future build, a build inspired by the ships of Red Dwarf.
Maybe
Finished paint looks great; stop motion work on this was madness, but hope you felt accomplished with final result!
Love your show Bill, I am so glad The Crafsman pointed you out. Keep up the great work.
he doesn't have fingers
tell you what else looks great when your doing the round hits in the armour, is once you have made your gouge (hit) put a small bit of acrylic filler/putty in the hole and use the end of a paint brush and press it in softly it will push the putty out round the sides of the hole and give that melted look rim around the hit mark's you have made makes it look very realistic
Your channel is the world of a Mad Genius and I love it. The little sounds, the cheeky dialogue. I love all BillMakingStuff videos!
Refreshing style of video brother ! Keep on going !
You are an incredible Artist. Inspiring as always! ❤
Thanks
This turned out super cool! I love your cat!! Also, the greeble stop motion always amazes me; I'm assuming it takes a long long time to do. Your dedication to your craft/brand is awesome. Amazing job again, Bill
Yes...long time
23:45 Drybrushing silber over black does a pretty amazing job and you wouldn't even need a wash. to bring out the details.
Loving how you are so loose, and chilled about everything. Very refreshing from the stress-heads who tend to saturate the genre content. Especially with reference to your kitbash squad, particularly the Chimpeye Sniper. Lmao. Keep on keeping on.
These videos are so inspiring, keep it up :) ! I am planning on scratch building some samurai robots to use as warhammer knights.
Go on then
love the content- was deciding to buy or make a spaceship for a film. i think i'll make it. Thanks for inspiration
Brilliant channel. Kudos🍻 Look forward to see what you do
Love it Bill! Beautiful ship, love the green👍👍⭐️
