Is it just me or is mark hamil the only person on that panel who understands star wars?
campinatorxbox 1 I just don’t understand why he signed for the movie after reading the scripts.. like if you need the money good but I bet he would have get other roles of he said no to this bullshit and told the fans why..
Mark didn't want to be part of the new trilogy. But once Harrison and Carrie signed on he felt obligated and didn't want to be the one guy to say no and disappoint people. But he's done everything he possibly can since signing on to steer his character and these movies in a better direction. But no one making these films gave him any respect or considered what he had to say.

I heard they all signed on before Lucas sold anything. Mark was under the impression he'd be working for George.
Hamill did not get to read a script before signing on. They had not finished the script by that time. Mark did not even know they were going to be sold to Disney.

The Prequal Trilogy was terrible, but it's more seen as an example of how to have a clear direction AND plan - the Original Trilogy had a direction only, yet it was brilliant. Prequals suffered from bad acting, questionable decisions and terrible use of politics, but there was a clear story to tell. What is the Sequal Trilogy trying (and failing) to tell us?

@Joe Kerr - She obviously is good at being a producer although there are a lot of turds associated with her name too. (Everything after the first Indian Jones movie in the series, the Back to the Future part 1 was loads better that parts 2 and 3, Jurassic Part 1 was the best of that series, etc...) All the bad ones were sequels by the way. The point is she needs to go back to telling good stories and stop trying to be a cultural alchemist.

@@manafon5398 I personally never had a much of a problem with the prequels. Yes they weren't as good as the OT, but they are miles better than these new movies. And that's because George made them. People are finally realizing that he had great vision, but maybe the execution was a little off. Disney though, it's all about money and nothing about fans. Basically "How can we milk this franchise into eternity?" And the reason Rogue One stands out is because the time it takes place, they couldn't mess with the story George had already done.

In the books which is canon, she DOES marry Han. They have two kids. Han's daughter is even sent to train under Boba Fett to take down her brother who becomes a sith. Leia even becomes a Jedi.

I feel so bad for Mark. The guy just wanted to bring the band back together one last time for the fans, to have a last taste of the good old days. What he got was the bastardization of his character and a slap in the face of the fans he loves. You can see it in his face. George Lucas was the creator of Star Wars. The Expanded Universe was created by fans, occasionally with some imput from George. But ultimately George was free to contradict or draw from the EU as he wanted . When George gave the responsibility of making films to Disney/Lucasfilm, the ability to contradict EU as needed went with that. Hence the rebranding of the Expanded Universe to Legends.

Joe Kerr eu was not created by fans. It was licensed and approved by lucasfilm. And many times was used later in the films. For example, Coruscant was an eu name.
There was absolutely no need to get rid of it and Disney just did it so they could have complete latitude to do what they want. Destroying millions of dollars, hours, and brainpower over 30+ years. Disrespecting many great authors and fans. The eu will always be the real canon. It was very good quality and much better than the current abortions they have. I guess star wars died in 2014.

I think we atleast have to try and change things for the better, there is still a chance... They've heard our words but wouldn't listen, now they've felt us taking our wallets away from them. Hopefully that gets the message across that we want our franchise treated with dignity and respect!

I like to call it the 343 effect after what 343 industries did to the Halo franchise. I might have to change it to the Kennedy effect though. It's when someone who doesn't understand the franchise tries to make it more modern and only ruins it. Examples include Halo 4 and 5. They had zero grit on the armor and tried to make it more modern by introducing spikes and such to the helmets. The fanbase hated it. Spartan Locke being retconned into a lot of things so it would seem reasonable that he held his ground against a man who fell from orbit multiple times, detonated a nuke by punching it, and blew up multiple planet sized superweapons as well as waking up hours later after being attacked by something that harvests souls, leaving dust from the bodies. Fans weren't happy about that retconning being done so he could handle the chief in a fist fight. And now Kathleen Kennedy has done the same.

Yep... the fact that Rian Johnson was allowed to scrap J.J's story outline that he had marked out for Episodes 8 and 9 is just a sad joke. I was really pumped with the direction of where things looked like they were going after TFA, then The Last Jedi just threw it all away and took a big sh*t on it.

I thought The Force Awakens was pretty good, it had as many similarities with A New Hope as The Phantom Menace had to ANH, which is how Star Wars is supposed to be, cyclical, poetic (as George has said), rhythmic in it's themes, the same as the real world, and the rise and fall of cultures and civilisations.
You have to admit it at least respected the foundations of what George Lucas created, where as The Last Jedi completely threw them out of the window, in the most arrogant and disrespectful ways possible. I truly hope Episode 9 will be a return to proper "Star Wars".

What a liar! After fully, completely and officially acquiring LucasFilms and Star Wars, Kathleen Kennedy and Disney rejected the Expanded Universe Star Wars as non-canon then proceeded to make Star Wars films where they methodically destroyed the beloved characters (Luke, Chewy, Han, Leia, Ackbar, etc.) and the overall lore of Star Wars.
That first clip of mark broke my heart. Imagine having something you worked so hard on summarily brought down. That is a dejected man.
This makes me real sad. When Lucas said: This is a big universe I've created and there's a lot of stories in there. Broke my fucking heart.
Disney isn't exploring the universe at all, they're making "Cool" movies to pander to the people who love "Cool". None of the people who love Star Wars have loved the Disney films.
Star wars was never "cool". What it did fantastically was to give HOPE to struggle. To show that no matter how bad things are for you, the internal ability of self ALWAYS has the capacity to overcome adversity through hard work and discipline.
It created a sense of honor, peace and power for good. Now it's a series about power for power, mockery, and destruction.
Fire the writers now and hire a bunch of the authors of the Legends novels to create a new future that the FANS can stomach.

Well, then George Lucas shouldn't have sold the property to Disney. He should have made another arrangement instead, sell them the merchandising rights for 10 years and split the profits/creativity of the films between Disney and George Lucas 50/50.

Would have much rather seen a movie about Luke’s new and thriving Jedi order. Like changing Jedi rules to better the order. The Jedi with their arrogant ways have a history of failure. Luke’s academy was much better. Unfortunately They went on a different direction with the new movies.

I had this idea for a future setting where the Empire and Rebellion are still at it, 35 years later, but the former is thriving under a new leadership that has re-established many of the old republic's institutions that Palpatine eliminated, while the latter is losing through attrition and dwindling support, with Luke in the middle of it all seeming like he's changed sides as he runs a new Jedi school within the Empire after being offered such an opportunity, but is actually using the chance to try and figure out what the new emperor is really up to.

Honestly, I think Disney planned this from the beginning. Kennedy is doing exactly what Disney wants her to do. From the moment Disney got a hold of the franchise they have been dismantling it. The threw out Lucas's ideas from episodes 7 to 9, they cut funding to Battlefront 3, they cancelled The Clone Wars cartoon. They took away the right for Star Wars comics from Dark Horse Comics and gave them to Marvel Comics and they erased the EU from canon....all this before production even started on The Force Awakens. They gave us excuses....but their excuses....they wanted to burn down Star Wars and build Disney Star Wars on top of its foundation. Sad...

Seeing Master Luke like this just makes me want to detonate Lucas film. They make a new trilogy “for the fans,” and completely do the opposite of what the fans want. They had the biggest opportunity to make Luke the most powerful canon Jedi and they literally blew it.

I've been a fan of the original films since the late 80's - early 90's. Grew up a few years after the original films came out, but I really enjoyed them as a kid. I was excited to see the Special Editions and the Prequel Trilogy, and the news of a new film series starting with the Force Awakens & Rogue One was very exciting too.....but after seeing The Last Jedi *ONE TIME* I decided that was enough. Solo is the first Star Wars film I _haven't_ gone to see in a theater. That says a lot when a long-time fan isn't even interested enough to bother spending a few bucks on a movie ticket.
I was a kid for the original trilogy, then saw special editions and excited for Phantom Menace. It was so disappointing I was one and done. I came back for 7, but that was so messed up I was done. I saw Rogue One - disappointed. I did see the Mandalorian, which was good. If they do 10 or a remake of 1, I'll show up for that. I like to imagine there are better versions of Star Wars in the multiverse.

The first movie I ever saw was Star Wars in the theater in 1977(78) when I was four years old. I was hooked from the moment I saw it. I have waited breathlessly for each installment since. Although I was disappointed by the prequel trilogy, I never felt stabbed in the back the way I do with the most recent "Star Wars" films. I really wanted to like the TFA, but it failed to satisfy, from the Mary Sue Rey to the forced, awkward humor. I wasn't even excited to see the TLJ, but I figured I'd see it anyway, just to see how the plot evolved from the first movie. I walked out of that theater legitimately angry. I'd never felt so disrespected as a fan. All of the mysteries and questions from the first film were unceremoniously thrown in the trash. The unnecessary humor was even worse. The script and plot were awful: Mary Poppins Leia, Walrus Milk Luke, Hyperdrive Fuel, Gravity Bombs, Porgs, the list goes on and on. It was at that moment that I decided I would never go see a Disney Star Wars film again. I was so optimistic when Disney bought the franchise. Although I had problems with the prequels, I never felt that Lucas was deliberately trying to destroy the franchise the way Disney has. If JJ Abrams drove a stake through Star Wars' heart with TFA, then Rian and Kennedy have cut off its head and stuffed its mouth with garlic with TLJ. But what I really cannot understand is this: by all accounts Solo is underperforming at the box office and it seems that every mainstream reviewer is grasping at straws to justify why it is coming is as the lowest performing SW movie ever: it's Memorial Day weekend, it's going up against Deadpool and Infinity War, it's SW fatigue, all while ignoring the painfully obvious: FANS FREAKING HATE THE LAST JEDI and refuse to spend one more dime on anything SW corrupted by Kennedy, et al. It's not SW fatigue or Infinity Wars or Memorial Day. Fans hate the direction that Disney/Lucasfilm is taking SW in. Until Disney/Lucasfilm can admit that, they are going to continue to see more and more diminishing returns in this once-beloved franchise.
I loved star wars as a kid ,and right now I can't even look at this franchise without cringing ,even the prequels were better than this ,they destroyed the life work of George Lucas just to make money.

That's exactly why Cobra Kai is blowing up! The original actors said no for 30 years because nothing felt right. But now, they said yes because the pitch is fresh and good and interesting. It stays true to the original vision and doesn't crap all over it with some agenda. If she meant what she said, we'd see a completely different set of movies. They might not be as legendary as the OT, but I know they'd be better than what we got.
