What destroyed Hollywood was the constant interference from government. The old Hollywood as in golden era was gone by the 1960s and what came out after that was a shadow of Hollywood. Most of the post 1960s production studios were in decline. Now there was still great films after that but it slowly sank to nothing.
@@bighands69 thats completely disregarding the "New Hollywood" era betweens the 60's-80's. During that period directors had unprecedented levels of control over their movies, we had films like easy rider, apocalypse now. Films you'd struggle to get made today. it's when Directors like Francis Coppola Ford, Martin Scorsese, Roman Polanski (man's a nonce but he knows how to shoot a film) burst onto the scene and made some of their best work. of course along with that Era came Lucas and Spielberg. In 1975 Spielberg put out a little film that would change the course of film history, Jaws. Jaws changed the game for studios, it was the advent of the modern blockbuster. they realised that they didn't have to take risks any more on edgy directors that appeal to the youth, instead big tentpole films that appeal to the masses, of course they didn't catch on straight away, as Lucas said people/studio execs expected star wars to bomb, when instead it blew up huge at the box office Hollywood as a whole started to notice that rather than hedge their bets across a number of medium budget films, why not just shoot a few high budget spectacle movies a year. This rolled on to what we have now, where that mid range budget film doesnt exist any more, every film is either a 300 million dollar mega franchise film or a 10 million dollar indie film. Spielberg and Lucas never meant to kill New Hollywood... but they kinda did by accident.
@@bighands69 What interference happened in this time frame? If anything old Hollywood had some of the most government regulation with the Hay's code. The New Hollywood era is widely acclaimed, I'm not quite sure what dimension you're in.
Yeah just look at the people that make it into Hollywood, lots of them say stupid and frankly evil stuff like how a kid being chased by an armed child rapist should be locked up for defending himself.
Think of this trajectory: Star Wars was supposed to flop, limited budget, unknown actors= most iconic and beloved movie franchise in history. Disney Sequels= unlimited budget, all resources in Hollywood, hyped to the Max= no soul, no interesting characters we love, forgettable flops. George knows
@@vincenthribernik the “flop” is in the numbers. Notice the decrease of revenue as the series progressed? @@issurxozo Exactly. And honestly, I think he gave away Star Wars because he was just tired of all of it. The guy is an independent artist who probably never even thought of achieving the magnitude of mainstream success that he did
The sheeple who submit to them and even bring other independent people down in their behalf is a bigger problem. If more people had the standards and balls as Lucas, the fools on the top would simply starve.
I heard from a guy, who wrote his own script and won a bunch of contests with. He was invited by studios agents from hollywood to see their bosses to convince them to invest into the movie. He said he had never met more ignorant and small-minded people in his life not before, not after. He said that he had to explain every single concept that was described by a word with more than 2 syllables. And the more you have to explain them the less likely they will give you money.
I think George is a nice guy. I understand if you don't like the prequels, anyway that's no reason to hate on him or insult him. He really is a risk taker, he was a risk taker when he made the OT. He put his heart into his creations with help from other visionary and passionate people. He was a risk taker when he later made the prequels. Didn't turn out to be as good but man, I think people should respect him a lot more because of what he has achieved.
Actually Jared. He wanted Luke to die and come back as a robot or some retarded shit so no dude... A lot of people who do know how to write a better script lol.
Exactly just wanna be fans who think it is cool to hate the prequels are like that. Sure I grew up on the OT but I love all of George's creations none the less. It is all Star Wars too me.
Denzel Mendoza the OT was better because he didn't really direct the final two. Kershner did TESB. There was more input from multiple sources to enhance the story. George was kind of a monopoly with the prequels.
I came to realize how much the force explains everything in the movies and i didn't even noticed. In episode 4 when the red droid got destroyed it was the will of the force because R2-D2 was meant to deliver the message that saved the galaxy, then when Han Solo speaks about never finding a reason to believe in any kind of magic and Kenobi smiles not because he is a jedi or a force user, but because so far all the events had played out according to the will of the force and Han can't realize it, you see a group of unlikely people, an old hermit, a farm boy, a smuggler with his Wookiee companion, and two droids, everyone of them played an important role to change the fate of an entire galaxy all of them, yeah that is the force allright. Even episode 1 is the same, all the conflict lead Qui-Gon to Anakin the chosen one in the most unlikely planet, the very only Tatooine, a planet that proved to be the center of the galaxy as everything starts in it. Other thing i didn't understood until recently is the scene with Qui-Gon and Watto when they put a bet on Shmi and Anakin, i always though that Qui-Gon did used the force to manipulate the dice in order to get Anakin but now i realize that wouldn't have proved anything, if Anakin was the chosen one then it was the will of the force to have Qui-Gon the most unlikely jedi to found him so the thing is the Dice was gonna pick Anakin anyway because it was meant to that. So that is how the force works guys, i can't think of another example as i haven't watched the films in a while, just episode 4 recently. Now all of this matters cause the force is a thing, call it God or whatever but it is there, it binds us it penetrates us and unite the universe together. The force will be with you all, always.
I just rewatched The Phantom Menace after years, I'm not gonna lie,it's really not that bad.Jake Lloyd's performance was pretty good, the CGI for a 1999 movie isn't that bad.I didn't care much for Jar Jar, but I didn't hate him, some of his scenes could have been removed, the Podracing thing is cool ig.I don't really understand the hate, people need to have an open mind, not everything will be as they expect.
No one has balls like this in Hollywood anymore. Just a bunch of corporate stooges and puppets doing what the board of directors tell them to (hi J.J Abrams)
Kaagh178 except for the fans who grew up with them and understood that there were way worse stories. The difference between sequel fans and prequel fans is that prequel fans like to make fun of the mistake, sequel fans turn into crybabies who can’t take valid criticism.
You know, George lucas is the epitome of the American dream. Self made, entrepreneur, against the establishment. You know what set him on this unique path? Execs being incompetent and dismissing his "stupid space movie", which allowed him to produce toys and get the IP of his own movie. Later movies.
Lucas doesn't care really, He isn't the kind of director who does movies for a general public. His ideas were initially executed into film for him and his friends. He's an experimental director hence why he doesn't always make the best content, nevertheless the ideas he has are pretty good and Hollywood would definitely appreciate his mind with them. Ironically his biggest creation Starwars fell into what Lucas try to differ it from. The idea was original both OT and Prequels, but along comes the sequel and Force Awakens and is turned into a copy of what was once Lucas' original idea. Which is why Lucas is superior to Hollywood, they need to copy his idea to make it good again. Hollywood hates Lucas because Lucas doesn't need them to make the movies he wants.
Aldair Reynoso Lucas said himself the three trilogies should run parallel as well running sequentially. There are meant to be similarities and there is meant to be symmetry.
Yes! But I don't think people realize how much of Star Wars was his idea his wife's and that one producer who was fired after Empire. And how much came to be because of spur of the moment chance and necessity
I don't know this for a fact, but apparently he was working on the scripts of the sequels before Disney bought him out. The sequels would have focused on the force and go in serious depth on it. If someone can find them, I would love to read them.
+RMG Productions I'll never understand why people shit on Lucas so much as a director! "THX 1138" rivals anything Kubrick ever did and "American Graffiti" is loved by everyone!
George Lucas is a true creative genious, is a shame all the backslash he had to take over the prequels, wich were an experimental endeavour of him. So inderapreciated, specially by SW fanboys. Hope he keeps making films and writing storys, we need true creative work.
+juan esmit For me the prequal are better for character dev and story dev and less about making the best movie (whit x min of fight x min of chat x min of charater dev x min etc.) No it not made to be THE BEST MOVIE, it made to be a better story and a better charater dev. PPL that don't think the Prequal are good don't onderstand that. SORRY FOR THE BAD ENGLISH. BTW Episode 3 is the best probably.
+RMG Productions Because most people don't get the traditional romance and tragedy he uses in his films like Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. Die-hard fans were expecting Anakin and Padmé's relationship to be more of a love-hate one like with Han and Leia. They also didn't expect Anakin's fall to be out of a misguided love. All of it just went over their heads, so they didn't like it. When I watched The West Side Story in a college class, a lot of people laughed during the "Maria" song. You can't expect people with a low mentality to give a movie with a high mentality a good rating. A lot of those people would give a movie like The Ridiculous 6 a good rating. Most of the comments I've seen on UA-cam about that movie were positive, which I just couldn't believe or understand.
Spitfire Mark1A Well the story is alot more original than just hey those are bad people we need to destroy that and win... The story in the "Original" is not a bad one it just not a original one to my liking (the original are like i said good MOVIE not good art...) Yah i agreed it not for every one but ppl that can watch it will get alot more than just the bad ppl kill the, end type of story. SORRY FOR THE BAD ENGLISH... But perso i pref the Prequal because it a better movie to find out more about the universe of start wars ... also really the jedi in the Prequal are much more interesting (Luke was really not that good)
I've never agreed with someone on Star Wars more...I NEVER understood the blind hatred for the prequels...They introduced so much new LORE in the form of new planets, the jedi council, intergalactic politics, more alien races, etc. And meanwhile like you said the imagery was very iconic: the planet of Kamino, the imagery of the clones marching and attacking on Geonosis, the battle between obi wan and anakin on mustafar, the darth maul fight in episode 1, etc. I agree even the villains are great. General Grevious is a genius design for a villain, and he's appropriately menacing and does cool stuff. Darth Maul was mysterious but amazingly deadly in his lightsaber moves. Palpatine is arguably the best villain of all time due to his plot to take over the entire GALAXY by controlling BOTH sides of the war, both the republic and the separatists, and then execute the jedi and destroy the separatists and establish the clones as imperial soldiers. I agree...really its only hipsters and middle-aged star wars fans who would have a reason to be so HATEFUL towards the prequels. The prequels had some issues, but they were at the least decent movies and at best really unique, enjoyable, and meaningful films for the Star Wars franchise. The bandwagon hate for the prequels is by far the most infuriating and stupid bandwagon trend I've ever witnessed in entertainment.
retrofraction That’s just your opinion but you are wrong the prequel’s had 100% laziness and the movies were too long, completely boring, with a bad script, bad dialogue, and bad acting and they completely contradict the original trilogy the last Jedi had way more heart and the force awakens had twice as much heart as any of the prequel‘s did fuck those movies and fuck George Lucas

Not just that. THEY also have a very different political agenda from him. They are satanists, and they want to extinguish the European people, culture and society.
Walt Disney was a huge fan of Charlie Chaplin. Chaplin, in turn, became a fan of the Mickey Mouse shorts that Disney was producing. Early in Walt's career, he got the chance to meet and have lunch with Chaplin at Republic Studios, which Chaplin was part owner of. Walt, then in his late twenties, asked the much older Chaplin if he had any advice for a guy trying to make it in the movie business. Chaplin said, 'Own everything you make. Don't give the bastards an inch.' Walt took that advice to heart. He changed the name of his studio from The Disney Brothers Studio to The Walt Disney Studio and became the sole producer of everything his studio made. Lucas was of the same spirit as Chaplin and Disney with his independent nature. It's ironic that years later, Lucas would sell his company to Disney, which had become the very thing both Chaplin and Walt himself hated.
To be fair I understand why he would sell, since he is getting up in age. But had he seen what Disney was going to do with the franchise then he might not have sold it
Thing is, Hollywood didn't think Star Wars would be a success and most of the major studios passed on "Star Wars" until Lucas ended up at 20th Century Fox. Thing is, George Lucas was a genius doing what he did and the success he built up from Star Wars is evidence of his genius. Lucas was prepared to make a final trilogy of films but decided not to produce them because of the hate from fans over his handling of these Star Wars movies that he funded, produced, directed and created.
Yes, but at the same time, even Lucas didn't believe the first Star Wars would succeed, he was sure it was going to flop which is why he even skipped his own premier to go to Hawaii with Steven Spielberg instead.
George Lucas and Mark Hamill are both idiots who have no idea about story-telling. Care about fans? Okay. Hard workers? Okay. But they are idiots as far as story-telling and so is anyone who thinks otherwise.
i'm starting to like Lucas the more I listen to him and am willing to give his prequels another chance. At least he puts his heart and soul into a project. Cant fault him for that.
That's true. At least the prequels went in a new direction and felt completely different from the original trilogy. TFA was good but it was way too derivative and safe. It just felt like constant fan pandering. I thought it was a better movie than the prequels, but at least he tried something new damn it!
Srikanth Boddapati TFA was fan pandering and set out to do one thing - to make as much money as possible. Lucas went on a limb with his prequels and didn't give a damn whether you liked it or not. And they still made a billion dollars whether you liked it or not. I respect him for that.
mousehead2000 Lol don't act like the inclusion of all the kiddie bullshit like the pod racing, jar jar, young aniken, and as many things that could be made into toys wasn't about money. Lucas is a better businessman than he is a filmmaker.
Srikanth Boddapati yes. you are correct. for all his 'heart and soul', the prequels was all about money which is why they sucked major ass! The originals were best because they were made by a guy who believed in what he did when no-one else did. As a result they were pure movie magic. TFA was a nice copy but that is all it was - a nice copy.
I think Lucas has been unfairly hammered by the fanbase. Me, I saw Star Wars (not "A New Hope") at the age of 11 when it first came out, and it was life changing. Sci-fi had never looked like this before. The thrill of the assault on the Death Star simply can't be explained to somebody young today who grew up with routinely fabulous special effects. By Jedi we'd all grown up and the thing was running out of steam, I think like most people I saw it for completeness. The 11 year old was now on the verge of adulthood. And then kind of moved on. So I have never been a "Star Wars fan" as such, they're just some great movies from my youth. I don't think the prequels are the greatest movies ever made (I don't like prequels period, for a start) but the torrent of abuse regarding them seems out of all proportion. Obviously Lucas offended those who consider themselves "fans" for some reason; I suspect it's because he previous to that had monkeyed around with the originals, recutting and adding CGI, and that triggered some kind of "you're raping my childhood" kind of response. I enjoyed the Plinkett deconstructions of them but honestly, no movie could survive that kind of critique. You could destroy Citizen Kane by the same approach. It's particularly odd therefore to me that the RedLetterMedia guys didn't savage The Force Awakens; quite the opposite in fact, when that movie is an astonishingly derivative, shallow and empty rehash of Star Wars (or "A New Hope". Whatever). Fandom is strange.
They hate him because he's a better storyteller than most directors and writers in Hollywood. He wrote a 6 film masterpiece that is beloved by people the world over even nearly 50 years later.
Yes.. but...... oh are we setting the bar low Just look at the recent "writers" guild of America strike... Chatgpt could do a better job then thoes already absurdly overpaid "writters" The funniest part is that you can literally ask chatgpt to write you better slogans and protest signs then the crap they used Incompetence is 1 thing But insainly overpriced Incompetence with demands of higher pay is absolutely absurd and funny
Sir Knight Errant because the prequels are bad except for parts of revenge of the sith. I think it’s more about acknowledging your own mistakes instead of feeling attacked by the fans who made him a billionaire. But he went and sold his movies to the biggest company in the world just to make a point. That’s childish
He shouldn’t have sold Lucas film ltd and Lucas Arts ltd to Disney. Disney made a terrible mistake to believe, they can make anything and fans are still going to buy it.
George Lucas wanted to tell a story of tragedy and redemption. He didn't have a specific audience in mind so anyone could enjoy his films. Today, film makers have target audiences that often alienate other people and usually tend to fail. For an example, Hollywood makes a film with all women cast with strong feminist tones and it flops hard. Then they pin the blame on a whole demographic people that the film wasn't even for. George is right, Hollywood is stupid.
“You don’t want to be oppressed by people who are not as smart as you, and I’m dumb.” He can spark a revolution he literally discovered the burn/self burn I did not think it could be executed so well!
As a kid I was an ardent prequel defender. As I got older I started to notice that they weren't all that great films. I began to dislike them. But in completely finally accepting that I hated them as movies, I started to like them again. Yeah, they're not the best films, but I fell in love with the idea behind them. Now when I watch them, I see how deeply personal and important they are to its creator. They were made because the creator loves movies and wanted to see his ideas on the big screen. Yes, obviously money was involved too, but you can't deny that the prequels were exactly what GL wanted to make. That, in my opinion, trumps any need to 'live up' to the Original Trilogy. They made their creator happy and that's what makes them great.
They weren't exactly what Lucas wanted to make though - Well maybe you could say that about Phantom Menace but sorry Lucas caved in to the backlash and Boba Fett was never supposed to be in AotC! He got added at the last minute completely ret-conning the character in the process. I'll actually still watch Phantom Menace from time to time because I never felt it was that bad a movie in the first place just not the masterpiece the original trilogy was {let's face it it was never going to be!}. But Clones, Sith and TFA I will never watch again because all three are a DISGRACE! Rogue One's great though!
You do know that if it wasn't for Hollywood (aka Alan Ladd of 20th Century Fox studios), there probably wouldn't have been a Star Wars at all. The other two was where the FU came in. Merchandising and the fact he bankrolled Empire and Jedi himself.

Over the years I've had mixed feelings about George Lucas, primarily in my misguided younger days, but these days I think he's a total legend. I can appreciate the prequels a lot more now, and look at them with admiration. Lucas is a titan of world building and mythology, and the prequels pioneered new techniques which are only just coming to fruition now. He laid the foundation for the likes of the Mandalorian for instance, which now benefit from techniques that started with the prequels. The prequel world that Lucas created is in full bloom now, with things like Bad Batch. And Lucas lead that charge. I can't help but admire everything he's done, and now I view Star Wars as the most expensive indie movies ever made, and framed that way, they're much easier to love.
Although I'll agree that the prequels look at lot better compared to the sequels, they still kinda clash with a lot of stuff in Ep4. Think of the old Imperial commanders/admirals or whatever who refer to the Force as an "ancient religion" and seem to think it's all a myth. But after the prequels we learn that the Jedi were numerous and well-known just 20 years ago. It would be like someone 50 years old today claiming that phone booths are a myth. It's very jarring. And the Clone Wars were way lamer than what I imagined.
I appreciate the prequels a lot more knowing that he was looking everywhere for help with them, but got turned down by everyone, and still produced movies that are far better than the ST. They definitely have problems, big ones, but they are still SW to the core, and still contain the sense of wonder that's supposed to mean.
@@crusherven I actually think they did a good job of showing how much propaganda works when eradicating a race of people. 20 years is a long time when you consider how much the world has changed in 20 years in the real world. Imagine being in a fascist regime for 20 years where anyone who didn't believe the party line or change their thinking was also eradicated like the Jedi. Imagine the amount of brainwashing that something like The Empire would force on its people, like North Korea or something. The Nazis were masters at self deception too, and we see that self deception and gaslighting all the time in current politics. I still think 20 years is enough time to make everyone 'unbelieve' in the Jedi. You only have to look at how our own 'empires' have taken their political allies and turned them into their enemies and wiped them out, with the average person not even that aware of what really happened. I used to think the 20 year period was also too short until I really thought about it, and it's actually not very far fetched at all when you look at how effective political brainwashing can be over a span of just 5 or 10 years. The Empire would have been repeating this lie for 20 years, with people like Tarkin being one of the worst for it. Tarkin spent that movie denying reality, he sounded like a Soviet Officer at times, completely sure of everything, until his Death Star blew up. He exaggerated almost everything he said in a grandiose manner, so his proclamation about the Jedi religion being ancient does sound right for a political gasbag like him. I think that's very intentional. The Empire is supposed to be run by bigots and political snakes at that point who have internalised every lie The Emperor has told them.
@@MrMisanthrope84 But that's just it--Tarkin doesn't "disbelieve," he just calls it "ancient." Unlike you, I find the Imperial Navy being ignorant about the Force/Jedi extra unbelievable considering their senior officers almost certainly served at a time when they were led by Jedi. Young adults in their 30s would remember the Jedi being wiped out on Coruscant--it wasn't done in a corner; this was basically a regime change. And as far as I remember, we don't see any evidence of propaganda like you describe, even if it could have worked. But it's not just Tarkin or people who were part of the Empire. Ordinary people on Tatooine don't believe. This is a frontier planet where Jedi were recognized on sight just 35 some years before, and some random junk dealer even knows whatshisname is trying to influence his mind with the force. This is on a planet about as far from the Jedi seat of power as you can get. It makes about as much sense as someone my age being unfamiliar with corded phones. Yeah, I'd be surprised to see one in use, but I wouldn't be like "what is this mythical artifact." Even people who didn't grow up with them will certainly have seen them in media. It's not like they don't have books/movies or whatever in SW.

It stopped being good by the time the 1970's rolled out, not saying the movies themselves are bad, just the institution itself, stick with the more honest independent films if you want true creativity. Luke killing Vader, then wearing the suit to trick the Emperor and then killing him, amongst some other stuff which has slipped my mind right now... but rest assured, George Lucas is 90% of why Star Wars is so great, the actors, screenwriter, "directors" (those who George basically directed the directing of), and John Williams' incredible scores at the rest of the equation. But without George Lucas it would be nothing, people seem intent on trying to take credit away from him nowadays.
+Dream Well he said in a interview once that people tend to overuse new technology in the film industry when it's available. I think he knows he made a mistake when the Prequels were 90% CGI, but it doesn't make them bad movies.
The film industry owes Lucas a immeasurably debt for what he did with teaching them merchandising something rarely done with films before Star Wars with rare exception like Disney Films, Planet of the Apes, and James Bond. Also his contributions to special effects, picture quality, and sound to film changed the medium. With that all said as a director or film maker IMO Lucas benefited when he still had people who would tell him no or your wrong.
I can remember as a 15 year old kid seeing a small blurb in Time or Newsweek around February of 1977 about a weird space sci-fi movie that would be out in a few months. Being a hardcore sci-fi fan, tinstant I saw that I turned to my best friend and said "We've got to mark our calendars for the end of May and go see this new movie the day it comes out". We didn't actually make it on the Friday premiere but the next day we went for the matinee at 11:00 AM and didn't leave the theater until 1:00 AM that night. We watched the movie 5 times that day. It was a glorious teenage memory.
Star Wars was amazing because it was created out genuine love and passion for the art of amazing sci/fi-fantasy storytelling. Despite the filmmaking resources, this franchise was one of the few that stood out from the likes of Hollywood, but once it was bought into the hands of Hollywood, that’s when things went down the dumpster. Really sad to think about.
Most Hollywood executives only think of movies as investment vehicles. They don't care about artistic merit or entertainment value beyond how it impacts the bottom line.
joeyxl3456 its the nature of life mate. You shouldnt blame humanity, because there is no happy end for it. In near future we will destroy ourselves, thats obvious af.
He also had editors. If it weren't for them, Han Solo would have been some frog-thing and the movie may have really bombed like he was expecting all along. As for Empire, with as good as it is, it was the one where Lucas was involved the least. The more you know.
The prequels are among the best movies ever made in the sci-fi and fantasy genres. They propelled the art of filmmaking as the originals did but most importantly they tell the story of how democracy can slide into dictatorship while everyone happily claps and cheers. There is no more important message for any democratic country.
That's the truth! The prequels tells about corruption of a government and how one government or cult or council can be effected badly if doing deals with the wrong people. About oneself being corrupted, witnessing hypocrisy, realization, love, and many more subjects is what the prequels were pretty much meant. The originals as much as they're good, they're just an adventure...
+Yves Heinrich Yes, yes, yes!! The prequels has so many subjects and many complex themes. Who would have thought when Padme said "So this is how Democracy ends..." Are we living in some form of Clone Wars now? That is what's happening in America now...so mind boggling. Those movies makes me reflect about real life.
At least if you hated the prequels you knew George actually cares to tell a story. With Disney and the sequels you know that they are bad and that Disney doesn’t care unless it affects how much money they milk off the franchise.
Disney wasn't always like that though. When they first got big, they put a lot of time, effort, and money into their movies and they became classics as a result. They were determined, ambitious, and weren't afraid to try new things. Nowadays it's the complete opposite.
Every interview I see with this man makes me respect him more. I don’t care that the prequels could get really, really bad-the man has a brilliant mind and a genuine integrity. Hell, he only sold Star Wars so he could watch his daughter grow up and spent a ton of that money saving the history of film itself. If he weren’t retired I’d tell him to use his fame and influence to fuck over Hollywood as much as possible.
This guy is a genius. All 6 Star Wars he made was fantastic. Yes ALL. Force Awaken was a soulless corporate high budget fan fiction, a re-shoot of New Hope. However, I have to give it to Disney, Rogue One was not bad. It could have been a classic though. There is a lot of missed opportunities with Rouge One.
It's happening right now. A few years ago people online used to post all kinds of anti-Prequel stuff like blogs and videos, but now hardly anyone does that. Many Prequel haters are now retracting their statements and Prequel-era material is becoming real popular now. In the far future, the Star Wars Prequels will be remembered as an unjustly hated trilogy of amazing movies, while the Sequels will be remembered as shallow leftist cash grabs that tarnished the series.
Hoggar Krababbel,ReonMagnum-the Star Wars Prequels look like live action video games. they have cool moments but ultimately suck. who but Disney would you rather see own Lucas film? PepsiCo? Coca Cola? GM, Sony?
I bet the exact same thing said people about the prequels. The generation that grows up with the ST will make it live on just like every other generation for every other trilogy. I'm a Star Wars fan and I love every Star Wars movie.
@@i-deni-i5138 the reason the prequels succeeded in the long run is because they continue the story. The hate came from the objectively bad writing of dialogue and because it dove into in-universe politics and was executed in a boring way for many people. In other words, the prequels didnt RUIN the story, they were just flawed and the flaws were magnified because it was the only new star wars in almost 20 years. The sequels destroy characters. That's unrecoverable. I know that people said that about Yoda, but they're wrong. He was changed by the war and that makes sense because it was probably the biggest thing in his 900+ year life. Luke however, was DRASTICALLY changed. He went from seeing good in Vader and using holding on to it even when his life and the rebellion were on the line, to seeing darkness inside of his nephew and attempting to murder him.
@@boggless2771 that is not a drastical change dude. Luke is 30 fucking years older than we last saw him. Also don’t you think he’s affected by the war too and therefore has a reason to be scared that it might not happen again??? Learn to understand human beings. Oh and another thing. It baffles me how much people like you can ignore the fact that Luke literally instinctively wanted to save everyone he loves by ending his Nephews life. INSTINCTIVELY is the key word there that is literally said by him in the movie. That means unconsciously. Do.....you.......understand???
What a boss. More people should see this and know the crap he went through to get most of his early movies made. I just went through his biography. My god that man has my respect regardless of the special editions and the prequels.
And then Hollywood tightened their grip so hard on every single film that came after it. Now there won't be another George Lucas. The closest person to reach Georges success is Peter Jackson, but Peter didn't created Middle Earth like George had with Star Wars. George Lucas will always be an inspiration to all filmmakers forever. Even though his films are actually pretty disappointing, he's still a legend.
Christopher Nolan has made some great films, has a good amount of independence from the studio, as they let him do his thing and they release it, as well as being influenced by Lucas. He's said Star Wars is one of his favorite films and it helped influence Inception and Interstellar.
Interesting that you make the Star Wars - LOTR comparison. You're right that Peter Jackson's the only one to have come close to what Lucas has achieved, but like you said - it was an adaptation. I'd argue Lucas is more like Tolkien. I can't think of another filmic world-builder, especially for sci-fi/fantasy, as innovative as Lucas. The originals, the prequels, AND The Clone Wars (and I suppose the EU) established an incredibly diverse galaxy no dissimilar from Middle-Earth. At least by the time of TCW, Lucas remembered that his strength was in the creative force, the consultant/exec-producer, leaving others to write and direct the tv series.
Exactly! He may not be the absolute best movie director. I cant think of anyone that comes close in the movie business that has a mind to build a whole world like Tolkien did with fantasy/middle earth. The scope of the world he built is enormous and so many stories and movies can live in that world. Im not having alot of faith in Disney. I think the Star Wars Movies are kind of losing their spirit with Lucas out of it. I hate how the new characters in these films lack so much. You dont know shit about this Rey main character and she is just able to accomplish everything with minimal effort. Im not seeing a very intresting character arc for her. I dont know if people will really care about her character like Luke Skywalker in 20 years.
George Lucas is a true film maker. Disney was good back when Walt Disney was alive. now it's just a leeching machine wf no soul using the same existing formula.
@@chup-5947 sorry dude, Mando might be a good show. But it doesn't make up for ruining the character development and story arcs of the original series. And certtainly cannot make up for ending your lightheared space fantasy by making the villain win and the heroes all dead and or forgotten.
I remember back before 2015 when I thought the prequels were the worst thing to come out of the Star Wars saga. Nowadays after experiencing the utter garbage they spat out with the sequel trilogy, it has made me appreciate the prequels so much more
@@gamer-px5cu In terms of special effects and sets, yeah it is miles ahead. But in terms of the story, the characters, and just the way they took the story it was far worse. Don’t get me wrong, the original trilogy and prequels aren’t perfect, but the sequel trilogy is just abysmal.
They never liked Lucas because he didn't want his movies to be financed and controlled by Hollywood. Lucas funded the prequel trilogy with his own studio budget and while they certainly aren't masterpieces they got a bunch of hate from "reviewers" who were Hollywood shills because Lucas didn't follow Hollywood's agenda and trends that make movies successful. Yet, those same reviewers love the sequel trilogy for it's woke politics.
He did the right move, the fans were pressuring him too much to work on star wars he said fuck it Im giving it to Disney you can bitch to them now, and it worked because eventhough whatever Disney does that will never be close to the original 6, clearly fans are dumb enough to pay for it so clearly Disney is happy to pour out crap and bleed out the series
@@boggless2771 Truthfully, he should have been smart enough to just let it be. He should have known that he could never recapture that original magic. And now, Disney is just hammering it into the ground.....

The humble farmer who feeds the entire kingdom knows what season to plant the seeds, when they are ready for harvest, how to raise livestock, how to work out the prices for his harvest and how to repair a shack. All the king knows is what type of wine he should have in each given part of the day.
The prequels were far from perfect, but still respectable. I feel bad for ever knocking Lucas in light of what Hollywood and now Disney has put us through with the rest of the Star Wars franchise
George Lucas is a bloody genius, and I do not use that term lightly. But I believe he is a genuinely brilliant man. Not only his creativity and imagination, but he is just a smart, smart man. High society does not like smart people.

The older i get, the more i appreciate Lucas for stopping making movies because of Hollywood executives stupidity.
What destroyed Hollywood was the constant interference from government. The old Hollywood as in golden era was gone by the 1960s and what came out after that was a shadow of Hollywood. Most of the post 1960s production studios were in decline. Now there was still great films after that but it slowly sank to nothing.
Strongly agree.

Denzel Mendoza plus he gave people Star Wars. He created it and everyone thinks they know it better than him.
Actually Jared. He wanted Luke to die and come back as a robot or some retarded shit so no dude... A lot of people who do know how to write a better script lol.

ABOVE YOUR PAY GRADE no he didn't. Where did you hear that?
Denzel Mendoza the OT was better because he didn't really direct the final two. Kershner did TESB. There was more input from multiple sources to enhance the story. George was kind of a monopoly with the prequels.
I already didn't mind the prequels, but the sequel trilogy made me appreciate the prequel trilogy a HUGE amount more.
Because the prequels are Not Bad at all
The prequels are actually quite good at building the overall story that leads to episodes IV - VI.

The Prequels had 1000x more heart than The Last Jedi

They're both honest guys who care about their fans.
George Lucas and Mark Hamill are both idiots who have no idea about story-telling. Care about fans? Okay. Hard workers? Okay. But they are idiots as far as story-telling and so is anyone who thinks otherwise.
Everything George and Mark suggested should be in TFA and TLJ would have been better than what we actually got.
except he ruined the prequels
And sand
i'm starting to like Lucas the more I listen to him and am willing to give his prequels another chance.

Obi-Wan Cannoli boring originals hahahahaha hahahaha
They weren't exactly what Lucas wanted to make though - Well maybe you could say that about Phantom Menace but sorry Lucas caved in to the backlash and Boba Fett was never supposed to be in AotC! He got added at the last minute completely ret-conning the character in the process.

You're right, the CGI doesn't make them bad movies. It is everything else.

@@i-deni-i5138 the reason the prequels succeeded in the long run is because they continue the story.

Blazer Hell I disagree but to each his own.
HalfEatenMedia are you smoking dust? His movies are great
I dont know if people will really care about her character like Luke Skywalker in 20 years.
George Lucas is a true film maker. Disney was good back when Walt Disney was alive. now it's just a leeching machine wf no soul using the same existing formula.
The people seem to like it.
Disney now is everything Walt Disney himself hated.

My hate for Disney is immeasurable.Episode 6 was the last movie.
You know Disney created mandalorian is that bad no
They never needed to continue the story past 6. Everything wrapped up so nicely. All the arcs were completed.
@@chup-5947 sorry dude, Mando might be a good show. But it doesn't make up for ruining the character development and story arcs of the original series.
And certtainly cannot make up for ending your lightheared space fantasy by making the villain win and the heroes all dead and or forgotten.
@@dd11111 the worst part is that Palpatine won TWICE. He got his empire, then wins AGAIN.
@@LiamNajor STOOOOOPPPPP!
fucking Disney man. they ruin all they touch and yet are now too big to ever fail.
I remember back before 2015 when I thought the prequels were the worst thing to come out of the Star Wars saga. Nowadays after experiencing the utter garbage they spat out with the sequel trilogy, it has made me appreciate the prequels so much more
Prequels were always good people just didn't realise it. Glad the sequels opened their eyes
@@karma0253 exactly!!!!
By any technical and acting aspect the new trilogy is a masterpiece compared to prequels.
@@deanjustdean7818 Whatever you say!
I love the Prequels.
I love the saga.
So do I
I respect a lot of their aspects. Visuals, audio, world-building (sometimes), and even some actors are just great.

So they don't like him because he wanted to do the movie his way
They never liked Lucas because he didn't want his movies to be financed and controlled by Hollywood.
Aka lucas knew about the epstein weitein hollywood types and didnt let the largest franchise the cinema history be a vehicle for it until now
@Sono Sung Well, he said they weren't masterpieces, he didn't say they were bad or anything
Edit: Oh wait bro, I read your reply wrong, my bad
@Sono Sung Amen to that
They don't like him because he got the final laugh by getting all the money lol
A living legend. May the Force be with George always
All I heard him say in this interview is “know your worth!”
" Then I said, Screw it! And sold it all to Disney, the most Hollywood of all of the Hollywood corporations."
Tbf, that was the "fans" fault, at least a little bit.
The part Star Wars fans never want to talk about.
@@boggless2771 Truthfully, he should have been smart enough to just let it be. He should have known that he could never recapture that original magic. Fans should have realised that as well, and tempered their expectations. But that didnt happen. It was never going to be what everyone hoped it would. And now, Disney is just hammering it into the ground.....
@Charles Bowers But at what cost?
George Lucas is an incredible film maker; now I respect him even more for his candid & raw honesty about Hollyweird. Star Wars is an AMAZING..I love it to this day from seeing it when I was a little girl with my Dad!✌🏻👍🏻☺️❤️
And then Robert came close and whispered: "Hail Hydra"
I liked the prequels. Always have, always will. Revenge Of The Sith is awesome. I'm a Star Wars FAN. Non toxic.
It baffles me how he had such an amazing imagination especially in the late 70s. So much awesome story telling. How do you think a world up like star wars? That's creativity at its finest. It's amazing actually.
Lucas was an independent filmmaker who refused to play by Hollywood's rules, fought their corrupt system, and won. That's why they don't like him.
The Prequels had 1000x more heart than The Rise of Skywalker
Seen it, can confirm!
It was probably one of the most boring movies i ever had the experience of watching.
They still sucked though
@@IntelligentleMANgief Well at least they were consistent. and they were able to spawn a lot of great spinoff like the clone wars shows.

Hollywood:
Don't make me kill you...
George Lucas:
It's over, I have the High Ground!!
Disney:
I'll watch your career with great interest...
George Lucas is a bloody genius, and I do not use that term lightly. But I believe he is a genuinely brilliant man. Not only his creativity and imagination, but he is just a smart, smart man. High society does not like smart people.
Why Hollywood hates him and why we love him!
Hollyweed makes Army recruitment posters through movies. Georgie produces anti-war stuff. Easy to understand why
The OT is not anti-war. Its pro-war. Its literally a revolution that overthrows the empire. The prequels are anti-war 100% and couldn't possibly be clearer.
Lucas is a genius !!! All people who say the prequels suck are not smart enough to understand the crisis and everything in the movies
Connections etc
You're right. Most people who hate the prequels are idiots, including Mike Stoklassa. Here's proof if you need any.
