The Cure are often regarded as the forefathers of the Goth movement that started in the UK in the late 70's and early 80's.
They've been one of the most successful bands ever, starting all the way back in 1979 and they're still active.
The crazy thing is that, after nearly 45 years of performing, they still sound incredibly good!
I adore The Cure! Pictures of You, Lullaby, Lovesong, A Forest, Close to Me, Fascination Street and some of my favourite Hits by them, and Just Like Heaven is a classic

You should have seen their hair in the 80's - Simon Gallup's hair (the bass player) during the 80's was something to behold.
The Cure is a favourite of mine since the early 80's (I'm old :-)) and they have been around since the late 70'. Late last year I saw them live and they still rock and are still awesome! This song is very upbeat and slightly silly and still wonderful. Their early work is a lot of doom and gloom and they might have been the reason for the Goth scene. Their later work also include more cheerful subject and more upbeat songs.
A next song you might enjoy to watch is 'Just Like Heaven' which is nearing 100 million views on UA-cam. Other big ones are 'A Forest', 'Boys Don't Cry' and 'Pictures Of You'.
Robert Smith is the creative force behind the band and creates most of the songs and lyrics. At times he has recorded whole album by himself playing all the instruments. His lyrics are poetical and full of beautiful words and phrases. You might enjoy their work even more if you have their lyrics at hand and perhaps read them beforehand.
Hopefully some time soon their new album will be released. During the concerts they played 5 songs from it including a heart breaking ode to this brother who had passed away.
Where’d you see them at? I remember where I was in high school they were supposedly having their last concert lol. That was in the 90’s.

@@pietersbart yeah, I missed them at Coachella about 15 years ago( I would only go bc I lived near there) and at another concert in the Bay Area about nine or ten years ago.

Robert Smith, the song's primary writer, described it in 1992 as both "a throw your hands in the air, let's get happy kind of record" and "a very naïve, happy type of pop song.
Probably the most happy sounding popular song from the band. It's about that feel good day you always look forward to every week. Where you get to be you, and everything works out all the time. Highly recommend checking out Feels Like Heaven, and Lovesong, which is the singer's "I love you" to his then, and still with him wife. I think they were thinking of marriage around the time he wrote it.
Lullaby is great! Also Pictures of you and the beautiful Plainsong! One if the most melodic bands ever. Robert smith is a genius
Robert Smith is the alien we all didn’t know we needed to save the world(see Southpark episode) this was the epitome of Emo back in the 80s. My favorite Cure song is Lullaby and Boys Don’t Cry. Robert can still kill it 40 years later.

Insanely talented and creative group and one of the most unique vocals ever. Their songs are wildly and intensely romantic on so many levels. I always did and always will love them and my new favorite thing about them is....they made you smile and frown a little!

Love to the Cure, but again, I think you should react to the studio versions of these songs. Live versions are fun, but you really need to hear the canonical, original versions first to really appreciate the artistry and creativity that goes into their creation. And I have to say I don't think Robert's vocals in this live version are great, as much as I love that he's still performing.

This song is definitely one of their more mainstream pop songs. They are very versatile and have heavier, darker alt rock/New Wave songs like The Forest and Boys Don’t Cry
You are missing out on some great music from The Cure, they really have a lot of awesome hits. I remember they used to play live performances that lasted for around 3 hours long.
For a FANTASTIC live performance I HIGHLY recommend the band Tool song Sober.
Who doesn't love a Friday?
Basically it means he doesn't care about any day of the week except Friday coz he's in love and that's when he sees her. You know, it's Friday and the weekend is here! Nothing like that Friday night feeling! That's my take on it anyway!
If you like the energy of this live version, you'll love the energy of the original recording when they were young and energetic. This is fine, but doesn't hold a candle to the version we all fell in love with in the first place.
Their pop stuff (Friday I'm In Love, Just Like Heaven etc) is okay. Their best sound is in the Pornography album.
itis easier to listen to the non live versions for clarity
Early 80's Goth/alternative and for me far better than the Smith's (excluding Johnny Marr's guitar playing obviously). Robert Smith just wanted to celebrate that Friday feeling.
Live music is great, but some of these songs should really be experienced by the studio versions. At least initially.

I pretty much love everything on their "Disintegration" album. And the creativity of the "Mixed Up" album (different arrangements of some of their songs). The musicianship of this group is top notch.
