No, London Calling is not by the Cure. You're thinking of the Clash. Glad you liked this song. Every song on that album (Disintigration) is fire
Especially the title track IMO
Disintegration is the Cure-iest Cure album that The Cure ever Cured!
Yep correct, London Calling is The Clash, and they reacted to that one.
that whole album is amazing. they havent even skimmed the surface of the cure...starting with 'a forest'...'lets go to bed'...'bots don't cry'...'inbetween days'...' charlotte sometimes'...'the walk'...'close to me'...' hot hot hot'...'never enough'... 'pictures of you'..'fascination street '....should i go on??? jay and amber...give the people what they want!! more Cure!!
I don't know what they were on when they created Disintegration, but it stands out by far as their very best work.
Disintegration is easily one of the greatest albums of all time.
All Cure songs have a killer bass line. My wife surprised me by taking me to the Cure concert at Madison Square Garden in June. I was out of my mind. Great concert They haven't lost a step. When it was over Robert Smith walked around the stage to thank his fans. Nobody left despite the lights being on. We gave him a 10-minute standing ovation. He was visibly moved. He's an amazing talent and a truly nice guy. Huge Cure fan for life. LIsten to as much as you can.
I was there one night too! My seventh Cure show. Hope it's not my last
I went to the opening show of the tour in New Orleans.... awesome show
The great bassist Simon Gallup was always the coolest member of The Cure and has been there grinding out killer lines from his low-slung bass for almost 40-years now. He's basically The Cure's answer to Peter Hook of New Order.
yeah... bassline
We saw them in Dallas this year. I have never missed a Cure show. But it has been awhile since they were here and I kept saying they sound JUST THE SAME. AMAZING. And I may have shed a tear at the end during the standing ovation. You could just tell how moved Robert was.
The entire "Disintegration" Album by The Cure is a masterpiece. It's in my top 5 favorite albums of the 1980s.
Their most perfectly-realised album. Timeless and brilliant, without a single weak track on it.
It's excellent, but Pornography is their dark masterpiece IMO and my all time favourite album.
Agree
An absolute masterpiece.
Yes, I was obsessed with them in the 80s
This is a real Treat!! THE CURE is one of my absolute favorite bands of all-time. In 2023, tell me where there is a music artist this original and CREATIVE? Next up please try: “WHY CAN’T I BE YOU?”
Kate Bush, Wilt, Kate Bush 🎵
“How Not to Drown” by CHVRCHES and Robert Smith is one of the best newer songs from him. The way they did the song is a mash of indie pop and the creepy guitar riffs 80s feel.
I've already asked them to react to "Why can't I be you?"; I'm glad almost 100 people have approved this suggestion; I love this upbeat song with the trumpet 🙂 "Let's go to bed" would be another good suggestion
Close to Me …
@@Happyheretic2308 That’s a great song.
The Cure and Siouxsie and the Banshees were very much the proto-Goth bands. Their dark style totally informed the Goth trend to come. Very Tim Burton as you noted - Edward Scissorhands, Beetlejuice, Nightmare Before Christmas, etc. Check out Siouxsie and the Banshees Happy House for a very weird experience!
Yes... Need some Siouxsie and the Banshees! "City in Dust"
Yes! I love the Top of the Pops "Dear Prudence" cover where Robert is not having any of that lip sync or fake playing.
Check out spellbound with Robert smith live
i would say spellbound is a great starting place for them
@@octoberguySecond that!!
I am 63 and I still love Robert Smith and The Cure. I’ve been listening to them for YEARS! ❤
I didn't find out about them until the nineties. Been a fan ever since.
Kiss me, kiss me, kiss me is a classic.
57 here, loved them for forever too. We lived it firsthand, the best
Me too! Nanas keep on rockin!!
Me too, since I was 13 in the early 80s and my eldest sister brought an album back from her first term at uni.
They were still a bit of a cult band at the time and almost nobody at my school had heard of them. Hard to believe now, but they didn't get huge until about 89, 13 years after forming and after 8 albums.
And this is why the 80s was just that awesome! 🕷 🖤
I miss the 80’s I wish I could go back and never leave
What a song! One of my favourites- you should explore the Cure more with ‘A Forest’ ‘Lovesong’ ‘Pictures of You’ ‘Why can’t I be you’
Pictures of You has to be almost my favorite, second only to One Hundred Years--would love to see either/both on here
They'd checked out 'Lovesong' already a while ago. Or did you mean 'Lovecats' ? 😉
Also A Letter to Elise
Love "A Forest", specially live versions where the bass sounds a bit more raw.
Jay & Amber, you'll love their "The Lovecats" and "Let's Go to Bed" !! (Upbeat Cure songs!!)
edit- Jay, "London Calling" was by The Clash!
“Love cats”! And “Friday I’m in love,”
they reacted to "Friday..." back in February@@Guildofarcanelore
@@surlechapeau I’ll have to look for it!
"let me take your hand I'm shaking like milk"
Jay do you want hear a great bassline?react The Cure song “Fascination Street”
You should do “Fascination Street”. Rob would die for the bass in that song.
how about 'heart and soul' by joy division as another suggestion for the bass
It's spectacular
If you're talking bass lines Lucrica my reflection by Sisters of Mercy.
@jimmymac4559 agreed. Besides Robert's look on the Fascination Street video shows how much Tim Burton based Edward Scissorhands' look on Robert Smith's, which Jay mentioned here.
One of my favorite intros of any song ever.
The Cure has a very theatrical feel to their catalog. They are their own mood. Legends.
Disintegration deserves to be in the conversation as one of the most seminal albums of all time. It is an absolute masterpiece that just gets better with age. It cements The Cure as probably the most influential band to come out of that Era.
I prefer Kiss me, kiss me, kiss me. Just taste, i guess.👍
The Cure is 🔥 period. I add my vote for "The Forest" next. Or "Pictures of You" ... Man, being in my 20s in the 80s.... what a stroke of luck!
Amber catches on to songs so quickly. I think "sleep paralysis" is a brilliant call. And of course this is such an appropriate song for the spookiness of halloween.
Robert Smith & his melancholy vocals are always so intriguing🖤
I love that you two are so open to 'weird'. It's amazing how varied 80s music was, the Cure was huge.
The cure is perfect for Halloween 🎃
of course Smashing Pumpkins!
The Cure is always perfect!
Happy Halloween 🎃! Love The Cure. London Calling was The Clash, not The Cure. You should check out 'A Forest' by The Cure, and also Siouxsie and the Banshees (Spellbound, Israel, Love in a Void, Face to Face, and Siouxsie's solo song 'Into a Swan'), with whom Robert Smith (The Cure singer) played bass early on.
My favorite Siouxie song is her cover of Iggy Pop's Passenger
@@razor6552 Good call! I think my favourite Siouxie cover is of Bob Dylan's This Wheel's On Fire.
Everyday is Halloween by Ministry and Bela Lugosi is Dead by Bauhaus round out my top 3 Halloween songs, and the sound effects these bands employ are still light years ahead of their time!
“DOA” by Bloodrock is the ultimate Halloween song. Unfortunately, no one ever reacts to that one.
Live performances are well worth checking out for The Cure: A Forest live at Werchter Festival Belgium 1982 as Robert Smith was just starting to change his style as was their sound, then 10:15 on a Saturday Night live 1979 to see their punk to post-punk origins. Smith wrote the song when he was 16.
For Bela Lugosi's dead, start with Live at Riverside (BBC show) but eventually check out the full 9 minute version. This is Bauhaus' first recorded song that spawed a new genre, goth,, though they have many styles and find that association too limiting. Bauhaus' creativity level is on par with Radiohead & Bowie (Bowie was a big influence and they were in a movie together, with Catherine Deneuve & Susan Sarandon). That's even before you consider guitarist/writer/vocalist/saxophonist's other bands: Tones on Tail & Love and Rockets.
I agree. Spy in the Cab is another good Bauhaus song
I’d throw in Spellbound by Siouxsie and the banshees. Killing Moon by Echo and the bunnymen and The Woods by The Call. And almost anything by Oingo Boingo…..
@@csn10 In this house, Peter Murphy of Bauhaus and Robert Smith of The Cure share the title of The Gothfather. Yes, I know that The Cure aren't technically considered a goth band, but their music still got played at the spookiest clubs every night, and I don't think I've ever met a gothy individual who wasn't a Cure fan.
The Cure and Bauhaus are two of the best live bands I've ever seen too!
Robert Smith played with Siouxsie and the Banshees, who you STILL haven't reacted to! They are legends in post-punk and they are perfect for Halloween. Don't sleep on Sioux!
And London Calling was The Clash.
The Cure are fire , they have four decades of great music.
"Just like heaven" "lullaby" and "Friday I'm in love" all great Cure songs!
I think they'd listened to 'Just Like Heaven' already a while ago, though 🙂
Don’t forget Pictures of You.
maybe better they watch the movie for just like heaven :D they have movies too not only music :D
I saw The Cure in concert this summer and I about lost my mind when they performed this song. Not only did they sound amazing, the visuals on stage showed a spider inside or on a web with green lighting! As the song progressed the spider got bigger!! Amazing song, amazing video! More Cure please!!
The Cure Is an 80's Time Capsule ! They are Prolific in their influence and set a soundtrack for many of us. I am so happy to see you get their style and enjoy it. The Great thing about this channel is the broad spectrum of music you guys listen to. Thank you again for reminding us all just how Music brings us all together as a People !
Definitely one of the greatest ever Gothic Rock bands.
" 'Disintegration' is the best album ever!"
- Kyle Broflovski
"Pictures of You" is phenomenal - I think you would both love the hell out of that one!
Ooh, excellent choice. The bass in this is brilliant. You've got to check out "The Forest" too.
Been a huge fan of the Cure since the early eighties. Robert Smith gets a lot of his inspiration for these songs from his dreams.
A perfect piece of dark, moody pop.
Thanks guys, Paul.😉📀🎶❤️
You mean the BASS is brilliant.
@@cliffwheeler7357 actually the TWO BASSES. The main melody is also played on bass. The Cure often used two or even in a few cases, three bass guitars on a lot of songs.
The Cure wasn't just a musical group! It was like a lifestyle choice in my neck of the woods! Great as always!
Yeah my school literally had the clique we called the cure kids me being cute fan got along with them lol
I suggest you guys Close To Me! The video is amazing and one of their best songs.
I always wondered if this song was about depression, but it's so beautifully done and almost calming in a way. Love the Cure so much! Another song you might like of theirs is "A Forest" - which is an earlier song and one of my favorites. Another great song that is fitting at this time of year is Concrete Blonde's "Bloodletting". Happy Halloween Lovies! ❣
Literally just mentioned to friends that I listen to that Concrete Blond album every Halloween.
Bloodletting is my favorite song, now I gotta go listen to it.
@@peterreist2882 Yes! I love everything they've done!
@@chibirenee14 Me too! It's lotsa fun and of course - her vocals!!
Great album in general.
As a bonus to such an awesome talent, Robert Smith is known for being a super nice, down to earth, and all around great guy.
I loved his Red Carpet interview during their Rock 'n Roll Hall Of Fame induction 😁
@@mightyV444 lol, but you can see he regretted saying it as soon as he did it, and he apologised immediately. Still funny AF.
Simon Gallup is the bassist. He's way underrated
Eeep! I've loved this song for 35 years yet I've never seen the video. This is one of my favorite songs by The Cure. It's just soooooo good.
The Cure!! Awesome!!
Tim Burtons Edward Scissor Hands look is actually based on Robert Smith as Burton is a huge Cure fan
The Cure’s song Close to Me, the extended version with the horns at the end, Jay would love it
I heard the brass-less version play at a café only a few days ago; It was rather 'meh' to me like that 😅
The CURE - "Close to Me." The Brass section in that song is INCREDIBLE!
Love the Cure so much! I got to see them in concert for my birthday in June and they still sound so incredibly good. The lights for this one were mesmerizing. They have been going since the 70s and they're still putting out new music. They have so many great songs, the list is endless.
That's Robert Smith singing and Simon Gallup on bass. He is a lot of fun to watch live. He wears his bass hung very low and is in constant motion.
Next year, you've gotta check out "Bela Lugosi's Dead" by Bauhaus for Halloween. It's a goth classic.
The are amazing live. Simon's playing is so rock solid. Robert is also playing bass on this track - the main melody is played on a Bass VI.
Why we are talking about the Cure , there is a movie that is perfect for Halloween. The Crow awesome soundtrack and a cure song is featured Burn , I believe you would love the movie and the song. The Cure is my favorite band. Forest, Pictures of You , High, Push , so many more .
Burn live at Glastonbury... the bass sound on that is epic.
I think Jay would love Fascination Street. The Cure is the band that got this black man through high school in Japan in the 80s. Long story, had to be there. More Cure!
The cure is amazing...this song is great...happy Halloween 🎃 guys
you've only begun to scratch the surface with this amazing band.
Yes, this was only the 3rd Cure song they listened to 😊
This band molded my teenage years and it really fills my Gen X year heart with happy seeing a new generation discover and APPRECIATE the awesomeness that is The Cure. Such a great reaction!
LOVE LULLABY!!😀 They have a big repertoire of great songs
My favorite Cure song. Great band with tons of awesome and very enjoyable, interesting, and cool music in their catalog.
One of the greatest bands ever. They started in the 70s. You need to get into their early stuff from their first 4 albums…songs like A Forest, Boys Don’t Cry, Primary, 10:15 Saturday Night, Hanging Garden, Play For Today…you’ll see how much of a creative band they really are.
jumping someone elses train!
Mad mad props for being open to Lullaby, Amber and Jay… the Cure’s creativity and willingness to “go for it” has always made them one of my favorites. Your mind can only grow from these experiences.
Im 65...this is my fav band❤🎶
There really is no description for the Cure. All from the mind of Robert Smith, a genius.
I'm so glad that you guys appreciate the genius that is The Cure! They are a personal favorite of mine, but also somewhat of a guilty pleasure.
Man, I listened to The Cure pretty much nonstop for like a year in my angsty teen years. Though I am no longer an angsty teen, they still have a top place in my playlists. Thanks for doing this one, it's among their best on one of their best albums.
My favorite song by The Cure. It's got a nice groove to it. The bass and strings are🔥🔥🔥
Best band ever!! My favorite since I was like 12 in 1982 and still till this day. Just saw them in May in San Diego. First 8 albums are my favorite
From the same album "Desintegation" you should listen "Love Song", "Fasination Street" and "Pictures of You", i think you´ll love them!!
They did a 'Love Song' video already a while ago, though 😉
Loved The Cure since I was a kid. And this song is from one of their best albums, Disintegration.
The Cure is the best music to listen to on a Friday night at the end of a long week, along with a bottle of the best red wine you can afford! 😁
The Cure is still my favorite alt rock band (alternative rock was a separate music genre then). I still have some of their cds. They were phenomenal and I also loved their whole look, and vibe, which reminded me of The Addams Family. While I love music videos, but they along with compilation/"best of" albums rob you of the original album version of artists' songs, where they usually jammed several minutes longer on both fast and slow songs. 2&3 minute songs were really rare. Bands truly had and recorded phenomenal jam sessions and The Cure could definitely jam!
The Cure is a "fascinating group" indeed. The first single off this album is called "Fascination Street". And if you love bass like I love bass, and like Rob certainly loves bass, it has a incredible bass line. That said, I know you would also love "Pictures of You" which is just endlessly beautiful, and romantic, as well.
My all time favourite band - so many songs you could review. Rabbit hole is VERY DEEP!
A very Kafkaesque song. This band has aged so well, timeless.
The Walk, Let's Go To Bed, Jumping Someone Else's Train, The Head On The Door, Why Can't I Be You [Jay will love the horns!!!]
One of my favorite songs from my favorite bands!
Just saw them in concert this summer. They were amazing and Robert Smith sounds just as good live and in his 60’s!
I recommend reacting to “Why Can’t I Be You next.
It’s a totally different vibe, even though I love their darker songs.
Was wondering if we would get Halloween themed songs lol. Love The Cure!!! I know this sound is probably a bit of a culture shock to you guys. What can we say?...the 80's had it all. This was quite gothic in terms of music at the time. It was almost metalheads vs. Goth music for a moment lol. Eh... I loved it all.
Robert Smith and the Cure has always been pretty eclectic. I heard this song many of times but this the first time I saw the video. Pretty creepy. Perfect for a Halloween night! Please react to "Fascination Street" next. A great bass line in that song. Thanks.👻
The Cure is one of the most under appreciated bands. The music is always stellar, the lyrics are often weird but always interesting. My recommendation would be "Close To Me" or "In Between Days". "Hot Hot Hot" is a lot of fun.
Fun fact: Robert Smith, the lead singer of the Cure, voiced himself on an episode in the first season of South Park
I love the open minded concept of you Chanel to discover any type of sound@ this is brilliant and your comments make sense !
The Cure is a great group. They are so different, and that is what makes them so great. This is a great song too, my favorite will always be Close to Me, but they have a long list of good songs. As for London Calling, no that's The Clash, both UK groups, but very different. The Cure song's you've reacted to previously were Friday I'm In Love, Lovesong, and Just Like Heaven.
My suggestions: Close to Me, The Lovecats, Boys Don't Cry, Let's Go To Bed.
A Forest, too …
London Is Calling is by THE CLASH!! 🙂
London Calling is by The Clash...both great bands! This is my teenage music..80s were the best!
OMG Disintegration...amazing album!!!
I have seen hundreds of your reactions Jay & Amber, this one may be my favorite reaction! Great choice for Halloween, not only a great song, but a fantastic music video to go along with it. I suggested this several times, from what I see the song did not disappoint! Their early songs are great, "Boys Don't Cry" and "A Forest" are among their best, and we fans demand they play both at each concert. Happy Halloween!
Please do some more Dionne Warwick! 😊
Some great selections from her catalog:
"Deja Vu", "Don't You Ever Take Your Love Away", "Then Came You", "I'll Never Love This Way again", "It's You" (duet w/Stevie Wonder), "That's What Friends Are For".
The entire Mixed Up album by the Cure is fire!!!
"Close to me" is probably their biggest hit. Another good song of theirs is "In between days "
2 of my favorites!
I just saw The Cure at Madison Square Garden in June. So amazing! They are definitely in my top 5 bands.🕷️🖤🧡
The cure are quite an eclectic group with a different sound. This one is typical of them. A more up tempo one is 'Friday I'm in Love'-Colin Ward
London Calling was by The Clash
80s~90s videos were so dope. Like if we knew a new one was coming we'd be all excited about what it was going to be like. Just so fun. :)
Great song/video for spooky season! Oh and btw The Clash did London Calling
“Pictures of you”, “Letter to Elise”…. Lots of great song to explore.
Listen to the whole Cure album “Disintegration”, Share a joint with a old friend or lover when you do.
one of my favourite song of the band ... 1989 ... the top ... see them on stage this year ... The Cure Forever ... kiss from France
Ah, one of my FAVORITE Cure songs!
The entire "Disintegration" album is just flat-out amazing! Almost every song on it is just so heartbreaking and yet, so beautiful. The title track really does encapsulate a complete breakdown and the sense of a relationship falling apart. Just a perfect album. One of thee heaviest ones ever made.
This won British Music Video of the Year at the 1990 Brit Awards.
There are quite a few songs by The Cure that are beautifully crafted, Close To Me, Lovesong, Inbetween Days, for example. It was hard to believe they could be improved on and then they released their album 'Mixed Up' which gave every song on there a superb workover. It has been one of my top 20 albums since it's release in 1990.
Robert Smith is an under-recognized guitar god!
when you get to pictures of you, you wouldn´t be able to hold on the tears, that song is heart wrenching
it's so funny you mentioned _Edward Scissorhands_ as it was the other way around, basically. You see, Johnny Depp had said he took inspiration for his look (hair and makeup especially) after Robert Smith, the lead singer of the band.
Yesssssss I love The Cure and this is one of my faves
Definitely a great pick for Halloween. Probably the creepiest song I know. Love the Cure. Do Lovecats or Let's go the Bed ! .....or Fascination Street or Boys Don't Cry.
Fascination Street.
C'est vrai!
@@kbusby4824 I think it's called A Forest
The Cure… Disintegration is one of the best albums ever recorded. 🖤 And this is the perfect Halloween song to react to!! 🕷️🕸️
Yes, even my Big Brother who's always been giving me sh*t for listening to New Wave music has a copy of that album! 😄
This song is from the incredible album DISENTEGRATION. I first owned it on cassette. In the liner notes they told everyone to play the album VERY LOUD! I saw them in the eighties and I will always be a huge fan. Glad you appreciated them.
I actually disagree with the band there, Disintegration imo is best heard not loud at all, but rather quiet and as a lullaby(😉), it's so soothing and trippy and fantastic to fall asleep to! Might be my nr. 1 favourite album of all time, just perfect!
Robert Smith said in an interview that this song is about insomnia and psychosis.
Also check out spellbound by Siouxsie and the Banshees.....
The Cure - Forest 1979. Live on the old grey whistle test. Is something special.
Robert Smith, the lead singer, is a genius. They have so many wonderful songs and are unlike any other band.
Love their tunes 'A Forest' and 'Primary'. Saw them live back in 2000 in Australia, Incredible!!
I love this song! And it was based on a childhood nightmare he had repeatedly, if I remember correctly. What a lullaby! 🤣
