Simon and Garfunkel were one of those groups that had a lovely mix of folk and rock, so their lyrics were often quite hard and impactful but sung is a song and sweetly harmonic way. This is a prime example of that. Next, you should listen to The Boxer, Mrs. Robinson, Bridge Over Troubled Water...
Garfunkel is the one with the afro. These guys were absolutely brilliant poets. And harmonized unlike anyone since. Such complimentary voices. Pure gold, auditory orgasms. No one can fuck with these cats, FR. 🌬🤯💨🙏🕊
The greatest singer- songwriters also did these classics; "Bridge Over Troubled Water", "The Boxer", "I Am a Rock", "El Condor Pasa", "Scarborough Fair", "Homeward Bound", "America" and "Me and Julio Down By the School Yard" for starters.
That awesome intro Paul plays on the Martin guitar: simple and yet so poignant. The great original. No one should ever mess with greatness and cover this. Stunning harmony.
S&G was my very first concert! We studied lyrics from their "Bridge Over Troubled Water" album in my Collegiate English class my senior year in high school.
Probably the greatest singing duo of the 60's and 70's, Paul Simon had a very successful solo career, but they were both at their best when singing together. After a bitter split and many years apart, they buried the hatchet and came together for the free benefit concert in Central Park that was attended by half a million people. It was like the magic never left, and people were ecstatic to see them together again. That is one of the greatest songs ever written.
Hello, Well the man with the guitar is Paul Simon he did a great album after simon and garfunkel that is called graceland with the hitsingle you can call me All that was a videoclip with Chevy Chase in it that album was also magnificant and then Art Garfunkel he sang the title song for the movie watership down, it's an animation film, the song is called bright eyes a number 1 hit all over the world. Then to this one it's an amazing song song by art garfunkel in the lead they. had made a lot of good songs there is a big choice on it they have really done it well with very strong songs were they made protest songs agains the war in Vietnam in the 60's when you want to know more about tjem watch the documentary from them. Although i do not know of that one is to see on youtube. Greetings from the netherlands
Paul Simon is the shorter one on guitar. Art Garfunkle has the voice of an angel. Have you listened to "Bridge Over Troubled Water? One of Their absolute best, sung by Garfunkle. I also recommen Elvis Presley singing "In the Ghetto". Very emotional.
To me their best version is the studio version, because in some versions later they had been separated for over eleven years or more, and while still good , there isn’t the purity of the studio one.
Since you mentioned you didn't know, the one playing the guitar is Paul Simon, who wrote the song. Here is a link to the original recording from the 1960s. The tempo is a little different than the live version you watched.. ua-cam.com/video/4fWyzwo1xg0/v-deo.html
Both versions are fantastic. Yes, different vibes. Many say this is sung as a cry to listen. Disturbed is more an angry reaction that no one listened. So much wonderful music from these two.
I love the original, which sounds quite different than this performance. The 1964 recording is paced faster, with a more upbeat folk rock sound and stronger vocals. It's understandable why they slowed it down and softened it, given their maturity, and results in a great performance. You might want to listen to the original someday, which is on their UA-cam channel. Otherwise, a listen to Pentatonix's (acapella) cover wouldn't be a waste of time either. There is something wonderful about their recording. Despite the percussive beat boxing, it's a bit gospel-ly, which gives a difference twist to the message. Cool in any case. My preference is the Disturbed version (studio or live) for the reason you mentioned - the moodiness - which I think fits the lyrics better. The song is a warning. They didn't have the instrumentation in 1964 to do it as forcefully as Disturbed could in 2015. It’s a great song, and I enjoy all these versions.
this one is so nostalgic, it was released it the 60s. for me Disturbed version is my fave, but I was a fan of theirs before the did the cover, so I am bias lol
Paul Simon is the shorter one & Art Garfunkel is the guitar player. These two have some amazing songs. I love 'Bridge over troubled water' & 'The Boxer'. As you can see, they are older here for this performance & they have changed up the music & key a bit. They did this originally when they were young. Disturbed made a great version, but it is like a totally different song. Heck, Pentatonix does an amazing version of this song.
Now you need to checkout PENTATONIX Cover... Here's my take on the 3 versions: Simon and Garfunkel wrote this in the 60s to address how our Society was moving away from "Community" to "Consumerism"... notable by the phrase "... and the NEON GODS they made...". Disturbed version is the anger we that recognized the warning went unheeded... and PENTATONIXs version is more hopeful that we may finally realize those NEON GODS are not worthy of worship... But I guess it is all up to interpretation.
FYI "The Sound Of Silence" is about how the rat race of life and technology has taken away people's ability to communicate, express themselves or stick up for each other, except at the most superficial level.
Not to mention,,, They wrote the lyrics and the music, Their vocals were better even with disturbed using auto tune. No reason to do a cover if you can't take it to the next level & make it your own.
I love this song but disturbed's version all ways gave me goosebumps. The original nay have been epic in its time but the Disturbed vergine is epic for this time frame and I think they did a better job
They are not really at their best in this performance. You don't need to do a reaction to it but you should listen to a version from when they were in their prime.

Chills. Every. Time. NO ONE else can do justice to the original and the best. God bless.
Simon and Garfunkel -- the original and the BEST!
so deep, so true....lyrics and music are pure poetry...their harmonies are like a wonder
Yes they are still alive they are 82 years old now
The one playing the guitar is Paul Simon, he wrote all their songs ( a true poet ). The tall one is Art Garfunkel. The song was released in Oct. 1964.
I like the song that I grow to love it.some of the best songs them
Garfunkel is the one with the afro. These guys were absolutely brilliant poets. And harmonized unlike anyone since. Such complimentary voices. Pure gold, auditory orgasms.
No one can fuck with these cats, FR.
🌬🤯💨🙏🕊
I’m so glad to finally see someone reacting to the original song! Great move on your part bro! Much love ❤️
Cecilia
Paul Simon wrote all of the lyrics and music. Art Garfunkel, in his prime, had the voice of an angel.
Paul Simon is a GENIUS
This version still gives me goosebumps, so many years later
It was 2009 and they were both almost 70 years old and you are right, they still had it at that age. It's truely amazing.
That awesome intro Paul plays on the Martin guitar: simple and yet so poignant. The great original. No one should ever mess with greatness and cover this. Stunning harmony.
I believe this was a live performance at MSG in 2010 and both of them were 69 years old. They are still alive today in their 80's
They let the lyrics speak for themselves
They lived the story!
Two completely different songs by two beautiful artists. Same lyrics. I will always Love you.
S&G was my very first concert! We studied lyrics from their "Bridge Over Troubled Water" album in my Collegiate English class my senior year in high school.

Disturbed is neat. Original is just perfection in it self that I think no cover can match with.
Their live concert in Central Park was epic!

Paul Simon is the songwriting GENIUs...Even after these two split up Simon blazed a trail of thought provoking music.
Listen to their bridge over troubled water
Although the disturbed cover is good I’m happy you enjoyed this version better. Nothing will beat the original :)
Paul Simon at ground zero on the anniversary of 9/11 will change your mind because of the mood
Both are still alive. This is off their second album in 1966.
Watch their Concert at Central Park in 1981. In that one they were younger, about to turn 40. It's also a stripped down version.
Just seen your channel, you seem like a great dude man. Great taste. All the best in the future 👍
I appreciate that!
Love your reaction. Amazing song! Amazing duo
This song has an amazing backstory about a blink friend of Art Garfunkel’s.
The original was in 1964 with these guy.
So much better then the current version.
I think the mood of each version is a sign of the times and perhaps urgency of the message.
To me their best version is the studio version, because in some versions later they had been separated for over eleven years or more, and while still good , there isn’t the purity of the studio one.

Great reaction, S@G are classic, try, "The Boxer" studio version.
In 99% of cases, the original is always better. Simon is playing the guitar. Check out "Bridge Over Troubled Waters".
The OGs. Disturbed did a great cover though,
If you get the time watch the concert that they did in Central Park.
Both versions are fantastic. Yes, different vibes. Many say this is sung as a cry to listen. Disturbed is more an angry reaction that no one listened. So much wonderful music from these two.
Live in Center park
Disturbed's version is enraged. Simon and Garfunkel's is haunting.
Many great songs , do ceclia or Mrs robinson
You only need a guitar and a voice...and talent, so much to créate a sound of silence.
check out here song Bridge Over Troubled Water
You have good ears to realize that this blows Disturbeds version oimut of the water in every way
While you’re at it hear Pentatonix version of this song. 🔥
The OG's

I would encourage you to always play the original audio first. It’s the way the artist intended the music to be heard.. ty..😎

Art is not on the guitar. He is a very gifted vocalist.
Pentatonix also do a great cover of The Sound of Silence.
Now you need to checkout PENTATONIX Cover...

Где звук?
I always loved Simon and Garfunkle's original, but I think Pentatonix is the very best cover.
