Folk rock was still kinda new when this song was released but it was a strong voice for social protest, anti-war protest, women's rights, worker's rights and other issues.
Simon & Garfunkel were the real deal. 🙂 You can listen to anything from their greatest hits cd and probably love it. Also, Paul Simon has had an incredible solo career. That's a deep rabbit hole you can go down sometime. His Graceland cd is legendary.
oh THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH I WAITED sooooooooo LONG please oh please do more Simon & Garfunkel dude go down the rabbit hole THEY HAVE SOOOOOO MUCH .................. shadow
Now that you've reacted to the studio version, you may be interested in reacting to 2 great live versions. The first is a free concert they played at in Central Park for an enormous crowd in 1985. The other live version, was when they played at the 25 yr anniversary of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009. p.s. there is an interesting story behind the studio version you played, which people call the electric version. In the album prior to this one, Wednesday Morning 3AM, they played an acoustic version, which in the mid 1960's didn't go over that well. SOS was the song that put them on the map, so no one really knew them at the time. The electric version shot them to the top of the listening audience. It's ironic now, that most people prefer the acoustic version on the earlier album. I saw them play on their first tour in 1965, at the Providence College Hall. They played for 3 hours. After 2 long encores, Paul said, "We can't play anymore, because we've played everything we have". But they finished with a song they were working on for their next album, which was a beautiful ballad titled, 'Sparrow'.
I was a child when this came out & first heard it in '70, 4 yrs after its release. S&G's original version is my favorite because its warning of society's menacing indifference to reality of a creeping tyranny is so effective when blanketed in S&G's unassuming beautiful harmonies.
I LOVE both the original and Disturbed's cover--one of the best covers of any song by anyone, ever. The original is a gentle warning with respect to the way society was evolving more than 50 years ago. Disturbed's version is a angry Jeremiad, condemning us for failing to heed the warning.
I'm of th e generation that first heard this (as a child) and I love to see that the original is still appreciated. Disturbed did a phenomenal cover that I adore.
Paul Simon wrote this. Initially it was recorded and released with only Paul’s acoustic guitar being played. It didn’t sell very well so their producer remixed it with electric guitar and drums. It became a hit. Simon & Garfunkel we’re unaware of the re-release until it was heard on the radio.
Delicious reaction, Twon. I felt you way on the other side of the screen. It’s that type of song. As is Bridge Over Troubled Waters and also The Boxer. With Boxer I recommend the album cut. It can’t be recreated live and is important as it was done. (Talking about the drum work) I subscribed.
I love the write up you did for this song. Most reaction videos give the name of the song and the artist/artists, and maybe add a few words. You took the time to think about the song and then write a beautiful statement about it. I can imagine it would be hard to articulate your thoughts and feelings after hearing the iconic Simon & Garfunkel for the first time, singing this beautiful, eloquent, thought provoking song. Paul Simon is a true poet and brilliant composer. He also plays the guitar and sings beautifully. And Art’s voice is exquisite. As for their harmonies . . . Words fail me. They met in school in Queens NYC when they were eleven. Thanks to choir and musical productions they discovered that their voices blended well so they started getting together after school to work on harmonization. You’ve now heard the result of that hard work. Based on your reaction to this I really think you would enjoy listening to more S&G as well as songs from Paul’s solo career. Blessings.
I watch your videos with headphones on, so what I’m saying here and now is hopefully constructive not antagonistic: Your channel is good. Please put your phone on Do Not Disturb Mode when you record. Your iPhone’s notification sounds were all over the guitar intro/first verse and chorus. Just a little production note because I want you to continue to succeed. Thanks for making fun videos! Keep it up!
As always, I loved your reaction, Twon! ❤️ I was in high school when this was a hit and Paul Simon one of mysinger/songwriter heros. Disturbed 's cover is somber and great too, but due to my age it's cool to hear their original stuff. Garfunkel's voice very angelic.
There's a live version of them from fairly recently with just acoustic guitar. The tempo is slower, but with more introspection. Both versions are great.
I'm a little late with my comment, but I see that you haven't heard another Simon & Garfunkel song yet. Probably the most famous song of the two is "Bridge over Troubled Water": ua-cam.com/video/4G-YQA_bsOU/v-deo.html "The Boxer" is also often heard: ua-cam.com/video/l3LFML_pxlY/v-deo.html One of my favorite songs of theirs is "America": ua-cam.com/video/Eo2ZsAOlvEM/v-deo.html "America" is a very special song for me because my favorite band YES wrote a cover version, or let's say a song based on Simon & Garfunkel's song. (they extended the song from 3:26 to 10:31. There isn't much left of the original) ua-cam.com/video/JiAdSUViGlU/v-deo.html For me, the song is a "good mood guarantee"
I've been subbed to you for so long that I've watched you grow up! Dang... Time flies! Btw, Simon & Garfunkel absolutely amazing. Art Garfunkel has one of the purest voices ever recorded and Paul Simon is the eternal poet. You should hear The Boxer
I loved your reaction. You obviously know.great music when you hear it. Please listen to 'Cecilia' and 'Bridge over troubled waters' by S & G. I was blessed to grow up listening to them. I also highly recommend the Rotary Connection. Minnie Ripperton was a member of this cutting edge band in 60s/70s. The amazing song they're known for is 'I am the black gold of the sun'. You can thank me later 😀 🎶 🎵
I believe your are good looking as in a cross between Jimi Hendrix and Lionel Richie with a touch of BJ Thomas. Well done and love all your true reactions to many many classics from days gone by and long gone lover, my baby is a, long gone lover.
So many people are introduced to this song now through the Disturbed version, and while I'm glad the song is being heard either way, I won't deny that I think the original carries way more emotional nuance. Unfortunately people hear David Draiman's voice and then everything after that is like a faint buzzing lol Not because he's loud (he is) but because he just approaches the song with such force. I've heard people complain that the original sounds "too happy", but that's what I mean by nuance. If this song sounds happy to you, it's because either you're not listening or you're used to artists hitting you over the head so you get the message. Admittedly, I could be biased because I'm almost 40 and was raised by a hippy. I like a powerful banger just as much as the next, but I just don't want my feelings spoon-fed to me.
This is the song sampled in Eminem’s Darkness. Folk isn’t necessarily my thing, but their harmonies are always on point & they have quite a few great songs. Bridge Over Troubled Water is my personal fave of theirs.
People writing songs that voices never share.....no one dare, "disturb" the sound of silence....perfect lyrics that describe the control freak corporate radio play lists and the government/politicians banning songs and books. Plus there is so much musical junk out there drowning out the meaingful lyrics like from Simon and Garfunkel. Disturbed needs to write their own f-ing songs instead bastardizing Simon's song for their own financial gain. Just like when Green Day covered Knocking on Heaven's Door and an entire generation thought THEY wrote it [it was Bob Dylan].
Oh hell didn’t know you haven’t heard the remake by “disturbed” oh shit sorry you must hear the live “Conan” version!! Like OM GOD!! dude grew up with them it’s “folk” music pic~n on the front porch…, shit!! So many, I’m in my 60’s and I’m one of those HEAVY METALS LIKE DISTURBED FOLLOWERS WICH HAS DONE SUCH JUSTICE WITH GRACE OF ANOTHER ARTISTS MESSAGE!! So proud of the turn of such music I have lived ROCK THE FUCK ON!!! What ever YOUR JAM IS!! 💋🤟
Paul Simon is a musical genius. He wrote all thier music
There are songs that cannot be reinterpreted, this is one of them.
This is Simon & Garfunkel's song, Paul Simon wrote it and together they made it a #1 hit.
They didn't cover it , they wrote it,
and so many more iconic songs you would enjoy exploring ...
Folk rock was still kinda new when this song was released but it was a strong voice for social protest, anti-war protest, women's rights, worker's rights and other issues.
Paul Simon was & still remains one of the foremost poets w/in the music scene. This song proves it. As do so many others.
Paul Simon is a beautiful songwriter. Art Garfunkel has the voice of an angel. The harmonies are unique.
S&G was a voice of a generation....and still relevant today
I've been listening to this song fifty plus years and still get goosebumps
Yeah it's a pretty soft song but with deep words
Simon & Garfunkel were the real deal. 🙂 You can listen to anything from their greatest hits cd and probably love it. Also, Paul Simon has had an incredible solo career. That's a deep rabbit hole you can go down sometime. His Graceland cd is legendary.
Yes, more S&G please.
One of the greatest songs they released was "The Boxer" , it is soooo powerful, you would love it
Paul Simon was a voice of a generation in the 60s, along with Dylan, Townsend, Davies and Guthrie!
Deep meaning right there. They are a great duo. I recommend Bridge over Troubled Waters. It’s awesome. Great reaction! 💯💕
Bet I gotchu ❤️
I always dread it being ruined when others cover Bridge over Troubled Waters as it is one of my favourites 😟
@@NLTwon The live version from Central Park. Art Garfunkel's voice is like an angel is singing to you.
Bridge Over Troubled Water but the studio version as I think it is superior to the live version.
if it even matters. I like you and your responses make me have peace.
i appreciate you boss!
oh THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH I WAITED sooooooooo LONG please oh please do more Simon & Garfunkel dude go down the rabbit hole THEY HAVE SOOOOOO MUCH .................. shadow
Yes, please do the studio version of "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" next, you won't regret it for a second! Great reaction to this one!
Try Scarborough Fair/Canticle.
It's great!
Always enjoy this jam. Reminds me of a different time of peace and strife.
Great reaction again..
Harmonies are awesome!!
Do more DYLAN..
Oh yea that's a classic
Thank you thank you thank you I finally found that you did The sound of silence awesome groovy 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
Check out the huge concert of Simon & Garfunkel Live In Central Park 👌👌👌👌

It's nice that people like you make sure she isn't forgotten.

Have a listen to PTX a Capella group covering this, I think you may like it.
There is NO comparison. !!!
They're both good, but S&G are iconic. The song and artists belong together.

The covers of this original don't measure up.
The first song my brother played introducing the brilliance of this great duo

Yessir..what up!!
I got..#1:Bob Dylan.
#2 Paul Simon...
#3,#4,#5..who cares!!!.lol
Can't argue about your top two picks (same as mine actually) at #3 I would add Al Stewart and #4 Gordon Lightfoot. #5 changes from day to day.

Wow. Great song and great reaction Twon. I really enjoyed it.
I Am a Rock, Why Don't You Write Me?, Hazy Shade of Winter, Richard Corey, to name a few.!
I think the same thing ! What a difference a few years makes. And a baby girl on the way for him. 💕💕🎊
@@dianegoldeneye7207 Oh heavens... Now I feel even older! 🤣
Definitely a rabbit hole i recommend you go down 😊 please do bridge over troubled water next then the boxer ❤
Some other songs of theirs you should listen to is “Richard Cory”. “I am a Rock”, “10:00 News/ Silent Night.”
I love that song from Simon and Garfunkel, there’s another song i really like from Simon and Garfunkel called, Scarborough fair / canticle
I like both Simon and Garfunkel, and Disturbed versions for completely different reasons‼️☮️🫠💐😎💯

Wow. You grew up! Much Love! I was a like in the early days!
I Am a Rock is another song of theirs worthy of your attention.
Poetry in motion my friend
I’m such a Simon and Garfunkel fan so I was floored when I liked the Disturbed cover better than the original.

Hi No Limit Twon please listen to Simon and Garfunkel " Bridge over Troubled Waters "
This is the song sampled in Eminem’s Darkness. Folk isn’t necessarily my thing, but their harmonies are always on point & they have quite a few great songs. Bridge Over Troubled Water is my personal fave of theirs.
Jalen Hood Scnifino is also an excellent basketball player.
aliens was a great prelude to alien sometimes it happens but not in this case. disturbed is a side track story
You should check out Pentatonix cover.
you should do the boxer next. bridge of troubled waters is good, but it is an Elvis cover.
It's not a cover. They wrote it. The original.
“It’s a good song.” Probably the most stupid an understated reaction to a classic beautiful song.
The disturbed cover is interesting, but it isn’t the one on my playlist.
Pentatonix upgraded it love both versions this one and Pentatonix version
Beg your pardon, This is the original.....
Disturbed didn't get it.

The cover by disturbed really does the original justice, few covers do that.
The only thing disturbed had was the lyrics which would sound huge by anyone . They should stick to death metal goth rock
Oh hell didn’t know you haven’t heard the remake by “disturbed” oh shit sorry you must hear the live “Conan” version!! To me the cover was blasphemous
So simple. Needs nothing.
They were writing bars before there was bars! Billy Joel also.
