This video is from the Concert in Central Park in New York. The first time they got back together. Their voices have that something special when they harmonize. Paul Simon is the main writer of the songs but Art Garfunkel adds something special to them with his pure tenor. They are constantly at odds with each other for various reasons and break up. Usually with something like I hate you comments. Then a few years later they do something together. They each have their angels and demons. But it's pure heaven when they are on the same page.
@ladysky2883
Pure heaven is indeed correct.
We have another song from them coming soon.
Free concert in Central Park, half a million people turned up. This was their reunion and they did a world tour, saw them in Sydney in Feb 1983, was something I will not forget. Proper class and talent. Enjoy your work gentlemen 🇭🇲
@terryallen345
Thank your for the comment and the information.
Half a million people attended the free concert, that must have been something to witness.
They have such a unique sound, you know instantly it is them.
Thanks for watching
Paul's lyrics always knocks me out and Garfunkel's voice has the same effect👏👋🎶
Art was always so casual in his singing but so brilliantly talented and continues to sing with his son to this day!! He still sounds good. I remember seeing them in concert and when he sang Bridge over Troubled Waters, his voice just carried over the crowd of 15,000 in the arena like he had no microphone. It just gave you goosebumps. Both have had extensive careers after their pairing.
@HRConsultant_Jeff
Thank you for the comment.
We have Bridge Over Troubled Waters coming soon.
As you mentioned, we were just stunned into silence.
All the best
Simon and Garfunkel ❤ they sang song so amazingly. Sweet, simple. Pentatonix powerful, Disturbed angry. All 3 amazing.. But my favorite is Simon and Garfunkel ❤❤
What finally ended them as a duo was that Art Garfunkel decided to focus more on acting or try to. It started when they did the soundtrack for the movie, "The Graduate." Director Mike Nichols convinced Art Garfunkel that he would be great in Mike's next project, "Catch-22," and filming was on the West Coast (California) while the music duo was based on the East Coast. Filming would have been sometime between 1968 and 1969, and the movie was released in 1970. At the same time, Simon and Garfunkel were supposed to be in the studio working on the album "Bridge Over Troubled Water" (released January 1970), but Art was filming on the West Coast. Paul was frustrated at having to wait for Art to fly in to work for a bit only to fly back to California, and they needed to get the album out. Art finally finished his part of filming the movie, and they were able to get Bridge published. Paul assumed they would return to normal, but Art informed him that he would be in Mike Nichols' next project, Carnal Knowledge," released in 1971. Art had the voice, but Paul was the driving force behind the songwriting. Art filtered back to obscurity, and Paul became a successful solo musician. I was heartbroken when they split; they were one of my favorites in the '60s. I listened to them just as much as I listened to The Beatles.
@pat_in_va8605
Thank you for the great information.
We do have another song from them coming soon
Wow! I wasn't old enough to go watch the movie at the time but their songs were the soundtrack and it was one of the greatest of any move ever made. I had no idea that it led to their breakup. Thanks
That period of Garfunkel going to the west coast inspired The Last living boy in New York which is one of my favorites
This song is 60 yo and it still gives my goose bumps, it’s as good now as then 💜💜
This song, I am a Rock, and Bridge Over Troubled Waters. Brilliant!
This is my favorite of theirs, along with Bridge Over Troubled waters, but another good one of theirs is Homeward Bound.
@cassyharrison3592
We have Bridge Over Troubled Waters coming very soon.
Thanks for the comment
Their music was a big part of the soundtrack of my teens and twenties. I still have them on my playlist.
THE SPRIT OF THE SONG IS HERE....others sing well but Simon and Garfunkel breathe and live it like if they were only one
Now you need to hear PENTATONIX take as an Acapella version!❤❤
Yes! Although BP2 saw them live last year and they performed it then. The video would be a first for both, though 😊
I believe this was performed back in 1981 (I was 16 at the time) and I'm from Maryland, but I remember clips of this concert being shown on the news the next day and wishing I had been there. Just perfection. You should also check out Pentatonix performing this - the acapella group. Also, REALLY well done.
This is from 1964. Doesn't matter who did it later, it was one of several "anthems" for our generation from the later 60s/70s.
We live in NYC and my sister and I were at this concert. It was the best concert, ever! I could watch S&G all day long!! ✌Hi from NYC.
Bridge Over Troubled Water from the same concert is brilliant, too.
Thank you!
@jkgannon1049
We have that one coming soon and we were in awe.
Thanks for the comment
One of the most beautiful songs, so encouraging to anybody who needs to remember that someone is always there for them
If you don't know The Everly Brothers, they inspired S & G with their two-part singing. Paul is one of the greatest songwriters of the past century. And The Everly Brothers could write, too!
Their harmony is impeccable but I think it sounds better in recorded songs than it could possibly sound in the middle of the night in Central Park. Do more of their songs. "Mrs. Robinson", "Bridge Over Troubled Waters", "Scarborough Affair". Thanks for doing this
A beautiful song.
I do love the original one but the cover by Disturbed is amazing in a different tone.
You guys should if only for yourselves check out the live version of Distrubed's cover. It is far better than the studio version.
There is a lot more emotion and passion live on The Letterman show.
I heard it described that Simon and Garfunkel's original was the warning.
Disrubed's cover is anger that the warning wasn't heeded.
Paul Simon contacted David Draiman to praise him for the excellent rendition.
Simon and Garfunkel have so many great songs that will always be timeless.
It's one of the duos that my mom played often and I became a huge fan myself.
Their harmonies are simple perfection.
@firefighterchick
As you mention, we have done a reaction to the Disturbed version and we both enjoyed it.
We should do more from Disturbed
So much of the mystique of the music from the mid to late 60s was the cultural shift and the serious issues of war and civil rights that were happening. So many of these songs became anthems for our generation.
Miscellaneous Info: At One Point Paul Simon Was
Married to Star Wars, Carrie Fisher !
I feel emotional every time I hear this song. And it hits different every time. Iconic.
60 years! Where has it gone?
The first time I heard this song I was a child and just felt like BP1, amazed as it sounded so much different from everything my older cousins listen to. And still amazes me. Thank you both! All the best for 2024, from Porto, Portugal.
@Almcosta25
Thank you for the comment and greetings to you in Porto.
We have another one coming very soon from them
Hello gentlemen, 10,000 people maybe more... there were much more in Central Park, 500,000 people. I'm glad you reacted to this performance of Sounds of Silence... it's music inextricably linked to my youth :) Greetings from Poland
@magorzatakorpikiewicz4351
Hello to you in Poland and thanks for the comment.
We have another one coming soon.
The concert looked amazing
🙂@@BritPopsReact
Love to hear your reaction to "America" from the same concert.
@RobertRowley-dd7wy
Hello and thanks for the comment.
We have "Bridge Over Troubled Water" coming soon.
We will try and check out your recommendation also.
Oh, how great the music was in those days!
Very iconic, classic song.
@lordlockdown64
Hey LLJ< hope you are doing well.
I am busy with my Pickleball but happy to catch up for a coffee and a chat soon.
Saturday's probably work better for me as I am at PB on Sunday's from 10-12.
Let me know when is good for you.
Cheers
A must hear is their "The Boxer" off the studio album.
One of my favorites. If you want to hear an amazing version listen to Puddles Pity Party do this. Incredible covers of many songs.
My mom loved these guys so i grew up listrning to the the send chills down my body❤
Iconic song
The words are brilliant.
This is the way the song was meant to be heard, no operatic, it was a folk music with a message, not meant to be a slave to someone's preconditioned music preference attention getting overproduction. it is poetry, your description "so simple, but powerful." That's it right there. It does NOT have to be loud and thunderous to be powerful. it is in the writing...
It's one of my favorite duets, thank you so much ! 😊
Maybe also a live performance in 1976 by Bob Dylan and Joan Baez, singing Blowin'in in thé wind...
I was in high school when this one and more by them came out- So much talent ! ♥💗💕
Still brings tears to my eyes when I see them in this video.
This song brings back so many memories of my youth
Powerful message. Powerful performance. Beautiful voices
Yes, iconic from the first time you hear it. Great reaction.
A lot of people were really pissed when Simon broke up the duo to go it alone.
Granted, he had enormous success on his own, but still.
I personally prefer Garfunkel’s voice but you can’t deny the song writing talent Simon has.
Hey guys, you must react to Bridge Over Troubled Water. It’s amazing.
React to Scarborough Fair by Simon and Garfunkel
Couldn't be anything other than a 'bangin' for this ❤ The Disturbed version is excellent, both the studio and the (arguably better) live version. I know BP2 has seen PTX perform this live, but the studio version is top notch, too, and neither of you has seen that 😉
But back to Paul and Art... Bridge over Troubled Water is quite possibly even better than this, and that's really saying something.
Sorry I've been a bit AWOL. I've scooched through your video comments every day, but I've not really been watching reactions for a while. I got the reading bug for a bit, and then I fell into Netflix for a while. And I binged 'Mr Bates vs The Post Office' on ITVX. Man, I am SO happy that I'm not employed by Post Office. I may run the PO counter at my shop, but I'm employed by the shop, not the PO.
Anyway, I think I'm ready to dive back onto YT. There's only so much Netflix I can cope with.
@tundiel
Well it's lovely to have you back and get some proper "diff" comments on the channel.
We do indeed have the wonderful "Bridge over Troubled Water" coming very soon.
Perhaps the guys actually wrote that song about the PO 😂
❤ I'll do my best to leave some proper 'Diff comments as much as I can, like, innit.
what are you guys favorite all time forever songs ? just curious.
My era!!! Watching this live version I can tell it wasn't fine tuned and the vocals (I think) did not blend well. One was louder than the other and slightly out of sync.
Try Kodachrome

Never should have been parted.
Paul Simon is one of the best song writers ever born...... But not one of the best singers..... Art Garfunkel had a much better voice. He could hit notes and stay in tune much better than Paul. But without the song. There is nothing to sing...... Even off key. Thanks for the reaction.
@donny1960
Thanks you for the comment,
I guess they complemented each other well and together they sound great.
All the best
