  • Another video in my GT3 series, this one shows you a job I did recently where I installed a back-up camera and tied it into the #Joyeauto Apple CarPlay / Android device I installed a few weeks prior for its owner. Working on my own 911 is anxiety-laden enough, working on someone else's #GT3 dream car is at a whole other level of pulse-inducing mayhem. Enjoy!
    As ever, thanks so much for watching my videos and supporting my channel. Keep the comments and chat coming! More videos coming soon. Cheers!

    Maybe Doughnut needs to become a member of Project 996? Looking good for sure, and the lift is really the way to go.

    Excelent job, made it look super easy. Must be great to have become so confident working around on the 991 gen. One day these videos are gonna be reference for professional car stereo shops. And that lift comes in so handy!

    I saw that the exhaust is in the middle, hope that won’t blur the camera when you cold start...!!!(gas emanation).
    It looks easy to install but actually it’s not obvious at all.
    Well done 👍

    James, another great install video! Question, how does the Joyauto box know when the car is in reverse? if your only hooking up power and the video connection? Does the PCM put off a signal that somehow tells the Joyauto device your in reverse and to switch to the camera on screen?

    • @AutoAmateur
      @AutoAmateur  Рік тому

      Good question! For automatic transmissions there is a trip in the PCM that the JoyeAuto can use to detect the reverse gear position. For manual transmissions for some reason it has to trip from the reverse light. When the reverse light gets power; the wire tap gets it too and JoyeAuto flips the view on the PCM. I don’t fully understand it, but that’s basically how it works.

    Hi, two questions if you don’t mind.
    1) I have a GTS 991.2 and can’t remove the wheels, am I correct that once the camera is mounted I can run the cable around the rear wheels arch, along the inside of the sill and out to the front arch without removing any wheels, assume jacking up will help.
    2) can you bend the front wheel are trim enough with the wheel in place to get the cable through to the frunk.
    From there I assume there is a grommet to get the cable into the footwell.
    Many thanks

    • @AutoAmateur
      @AutoAmateur  9 місяців тому +1

      Your best bet is to bring the wire in through the back of the engine bay where there is a grommet on the right hand side behind the spoiler. It brings wiring in behind the trim under the rear window. It’s much easier to do that running the wire around the wheel arch and in through the front.

      @@AutoAmateur amazing, thanks very much, I'd rather run the cable internally.
      One further question if you don't mind (I'm new to 911's), is there then enough room to run the cable to the PCM without removing seats etc, I'm hoping I can tuck behind panels/carpet in the rear and just pop off the door sill at the front to get to the footwell, at which point I'm hoem and dry?
      Thanks

    What if you have to remove the bumper? Where do you disconnect the cable ?

    • @AutoAmateur
      @AutoAmateur  Рік тому +1

      There is a breaker by the camera which you zip tie to the factory power cabling. This way anyone removing the rear bumper will see they have another wire to disconnect before fully removing the bumper.

    Hey! Can you answer a few questions regarding aftermarket backup camera setup? I see on this video there’re both guidelines and red-yellow-green lines. Can those colored lines be disabled leaving only the guidelines?

    • @AutoAmateur
      @AutoAmateur  Місяць тому +1

      Most often yes, for the cameras I install - absolutely. There are several looped wires by the camera which can be cut to break a connection which deactivate the guidelines. Each camera is slightly different, just look at the instructions provided with the camera you purchase.

      @@AutoAmateur Thanks for reply 🙏 One more question. I have Carrera S 2011 (991.1) PCM3.1 with parking sensors but without backup camera. So I’m going to order Joyeauto CarPlay module and some aftermarket camera. But I want to setup it to look like the factory one - with proximity view and guidelines (whiteout red-yellow-green). Can you recommend some viable options please?🙏

    • @AutoAmateur
      @AutoAmateur  Місяць тому

      Absolutely! Buy the camera I sell on my website and the JoyeAuto unit (20% off with free shipping!) www.autoamateur.com/shop - it's 100% compatible with JoyeAuto and works exactly like factory. You would never know you had an aftermarket back-up cam.

    Hey there, awesome videos. I just bought a GT3 and I need to add carplay and a backup camera. If I get the Joyeauto module which backup camera would you recommend that works with it that also give you the guide lines for when you turn the wheel? Any help here would be great.

    Happy holidays, I was installing the backup camera and ran into an issue. I have the exact same one youre using for my gt3 and the rca wire is connected to the joyeauto, the red power is connected to the red wire on the joyeauto. I double checked to make sure the connector that you said had to be pushed twice was connected. However when I go in reverse there is no video. Can you think of why this may be? Also the carplay video shows perfectly however none of my sound works. The sound just comes through the normal radio. When I push the source button there is no AUX option for me to choose. Any idea would the issue could be?

      Glad we got this figured out David! For anyone else watching, we just needed to cycle to power to restart the JoyeAuto box.
