Installing a Rear Backup Camera in my Porsche 911 991

Installed Mr 12Volt on 997.2 Cab. Rather than remove the Bumper Cover drilled the whole in the cover for a tight fit for the threaded rod on the Camera (used the same Camera from Amazon) and used 2 way tape to mount it to the bumper cover. Same 3m tape they use for applying mouldings so it is attached solidly .
Rather than trying to pull those large couplings through small holes I just cut the cable and rejoined when I got them to where they had to go. I found a grommet in the engine compartment that went into the convertible top space and pulled the wire through there. Other than that I routed them much the same way. All in all not that difficult to do just have to take your time.
Awesome video, thank you!!! Both this and the Mr 12v install were just perfect and better than all the others. Passenger side box was clutch! Did you cut any of the loops on the camera? I’ve got these extra red lines that crisscross when steering wheel is straight but goes away when turning.
Thanks for the comment! No, I didn't have to cut the camera wire, just looped the excess under the carpet.
Did you test your camera before laying out the run? You probably already know, but you have to configure the Mr 12V for a rear camera in the menu. I forget the options, but maybe try another selection?
Nice job. I'm about to do this on my 2016 981 Cayman with an Isudar carplay upgrade for the PCM 3.1. Mine is a little different for the camera choice because they make an integrated camera that replaces the license plate light. Could you please tell me what the minimum camera specs I should look for?
Excellent video - thanks. You didn't mention the aiming shims that come with the camera. Did you use any of them to adjust the camera's view angle?
Hi Joel, good point! When I positioned the camera, everything looked perfect from my garage with no shims. But, my driveway slopes downward! Anyway, after installing the camera I wish that I had paid a little more attention to the angle because I may have benefitted from one shim aiming more downward. This only comes into play when backing up and needing to see painted lines on road/tarmac surface. I see them fine, but I think the view could have been improved on with a shim. If you do the install, report back if you use a shim. Thanks!
