Leopards
The wonderful Cheeta please
Wild dogs, Spotted and Brown Hyenas
fabulous video Janine … going to Tanzania next week… I’m over-dosing on all your videos, thank you!
This was excellent! Will be out there with your team in Feb, 2023. The best thing about wildlife photography is that you have to be there. The images are secondary to the moments and the experience.
these and the tutorial vids are the absolute best on youtube. Thank you!!
Africa is on my photography bucket list! Great video.
I hope to be able to welcome you here soon - cheers Janine
Cannot wait to be back!!!!!!!’
Hi Eiko, really hope it will be very very soon - cheers Janine
Fantastic Video, thanks for the work to get it filmed and posted for all of us to enjoy!
Hi Gary, thanks so much... it took a while to go through my archives but feedbacks like yours make it worthwhile
- cheers Janine
Fantastic tips. we hope to visit one day. Thanks so much, Janine!!
Hope to see you sooner than later - cheers Janine
A very well made episode on photographing lions, Janine! You made some excellent suggestions and the images and videos are amazing. Such a variety of shots that make one feel as if they are on safari. You also make a good point about tourism supporting the continuance of these beautiful animals. Thank you for a great presentation.
Hi Mary, thanks so much for watching my presentation - I really appreciate. Yes, I often find comments on social media criticising tourists around wildlife sightings... but there is always two sides to a coin and unfortunately animals will not survive without humans taking large interest in them nowadays - cheers Janine
Excellent video! I did not expect to learn so much from it. Thank you so much Janine.
Hi Sergio, I am so glad there was so many tips you found useful. cheers Janine
Well done Janine, an excellent video, beautiful array of photos to make the mouth water, practical advice, and great narration. Keep on going, Heidi says you're the next David Attenborough... Wild dogs next, please
Hi Leon, that is a huuuuge compliment. Say hi to Heidi - cheers Janine
This was a great video. Very informative. Looking forward to go on a safari one day!
Hi Denis, there is amazing deals out there at the moment - check it out ... cheers Janine
Thank you, that was fantastic.
Hi Pamela, thank you so much for your feedback - cheers Janine
You r great in explaining photography tricks but I am glued to this session as it’s more about animal behaviour in conjunction with photography tricks and with passion n interest you r saying all is amazing.Thank for insight
Thank you
Fabulous video Janine ,some great tips on shooting and some absolutely amazing pictures ,my own trip to the dalta has been postponed again due to covid ,I,m now due there in October..can't wait
Hi Kevin, amazing time to explore the Delta though so let's hope it will work out this time around - cheers Janine
Brilliant Video Janine, as always. Only one thing I can think of that could have improved it, I could have been there to watch the video captured. Here's hoping travel opens up soon....
😂 good suggestion... however, this is footage from many years so it takes a while for things to come together... but you will never get the image if you are not out there so lets do it - cheers Janine
Janine's open golden hair resembles the mane of a lion. Good tutorial indeed.
A very inspiring video. I would like to learn more about cheetahs.
Hi David, lets do it.... it might be a while as we don't have so many here by the Chobe River Front but they are such cool animals -cheers Janine
Un vídeo increíble!
Merci.
Awesome!!!. I always love all your shares ♥️🇨🇦
Thanks so much Michelle - cheers Janine
Wonderful video. I am going to Kgalagadi this month for 3 weeks. Which part of Kalahari you offer hide photography?
Central Kalahari in Botswana
as always, excellent Janine! ;-)
Thanks so much Pablo
Lovely video Janine. Hugs to all you guys :-p Tim and Von
Hi Tim, thanks so much - say hi to your better half 🙂🙃🙂
Why do lions sleep for so many hours? If anyone says it is because they are tired, they will have to leave the room. 😄
Is it because they are such a large animal and only hunting successfully thirty percent of the time, burns up a lot of energy? Or is it more to do with hot, open grasslands with little shade?
Interesting question.
Hi Steven, very interesting thought. I am not sure we can only apply this to lions as it is a general characteristic of cats. So it must have to do with their metabolism more than the temperature...- cheers Janine
I hope to visit a park where Lions and big cats are kept in the UK, there are several (we still can't travel abroad). From a photography point of view would the park owners let me go in and comb the manes ? I think this will make the photographs really good.
😂😂😂
Excellent video and stills. I enjoyed it, as usual. I’m looking forward to more and have no real preferences. Can’t go wrong with big cats, but lots of other animals to choose from.
Yes, I think cat behaviours can be quite similar so it will be nice to explore other wildlife too - cheers Janine
i love the video very informative , the only thing that bother is the lighting on you Jenin,it is very bad and not flattering at all, such a beautiful woman need to be lit with soft warm light and not harsh shadows, just saying
Hi, I see what you are saying... but I am working under interesting circumstances at the moment 😂 ... we cannot always get the equipment or space we need
One of the best presentations yet. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Hope these become a regular item. Personally I would like to see one on How to Photograph Hippos. Cheers Z
Hi Zsolt, we are trying - Hippos is a really cool topic! They are very fun to photograph... great suggestion - Janine
This is a fascinating video, extremely well presented and informative. The excellent footage and images gave a real insight into the lives of lions and how best to capture them in photography. Gobsmackingly brilliant! Many thanks for producing and sharing it with us, I really appreciate it. I hope that one day I get the opportunity to visit, although unlikely... never say never. Oh, I would be quite interested in Giraffes. I don't think I have seen much about them :-)
Your practical tips on field are outstanding Janine.... as is your delivery and presence! Thank you very much.
As a wildlife conservation and photography enthusiast, I'm now keen on finding ways to do a photo safari with Pangolin someday... 😊
What camera did you use?
Dear Sabine, Charl and Janine .... hoping to obtain your advice on what i'm doing wrong with my 5D Mk IV with a Canon 300 mm f2.8. I'm currently in the only reserve for Asiatic lions, in the Gir forest of West India. None of the eyes of the lions and lionesses I have taken today are 'tack sharp' as they should be - and that is quite frustrating as I'm doing what I think is right. I handheld the camera at sunset with 1/640 shutter speed, with a single point AF focus clearly on the eye of the lion, with a reasonable f6.3 and ISO 1250. Is the shutter speed low? Should I use a smaller aperture? It would be very kind of any of you if I could share a few images and obtain your feedback. .... many thanks, Harsh Singh Lohit. India.
What an intelligent, knowledge and tip filled presentation. And the photography...oh, my God...simply breath taking. Thank you!
Hi Francis, thanks so much - so glad you enjoyed it!
Hi, do I understand correctly you shoot on M not A or S priority right?
I am learning so much from your videos as well as the videos of your colleagues. You are such talented photographers and teachers! (And this is coming from a teacher😊). It would be great if you could share your camera settings when you display your beautiful photographs. That way, we can start to develop an idea of shutter speeds, apertures, EV, ISO, focus and metering modes to use in various settings. I find myself craving this information every time I admire your amazing photographs.
Thank you for these helpful solutions. By going on a safari I am leaving my comfort zone. I normally do people in a journalistic capacity. Looking forward to doing non domestic animals
Janine's excitement in narration is as impressive as the visual collection of the subject and many aspects to learn aside of the lesser known beauty of the animal.
I really enjoyed the video. thanks! I was surprised to see the photos of so many vehicles at the same location. I'm curious to know what the average number of vehicles would be at each viewing location on your lion safaris? Do they ever get in each other's way and spoil the photography?
Thanks for sharing all those tips, in my next visit to Africa, I will try to implement them as mush as possible.
I was wonder if you have a clip on giraffes as with always a bright background couple be tough.
1st: find a lion!
Plenty in Botswana!
Hey,
Love watching your content (& lightly new look)
KR OLLI
Superb video Janine, top notch and great tips all the way round 👍👍👍
Hi Joe, thanks so much, I really appreciate that - Janine
Your passion is as beautiful as you.
Thanks :)
Absolutely amazing video!! Thank you very much, Janine! I agree with Zsolt Hary about photographing Hippos. It is challenging (sometimes). Actually there are no many beautiful photos of Hippos. The other dark-skinned animal known to be ugly is Wildebeest (Gnu). I don't see too many beautiful photos of them as well. However, there are a few opportunities to show their character and dignity, aren't they? So, would you take a challenge to show us how to photograph one of the ugly five in a best ligt, to show its beauty, its other side? And perhaps to break prejustice of its ugliness?
That is a great idea Elena, we get a lot more opportunity for the Hippo than the Wilderbeest and after watching the Gnu in East Africa and the Central Kalhari for a while I wonder about their dignity 😂 ... I call them all crazy Johns. I Love and at the same time I am terrified of Hippos... great subject matter... cheers Janine
very nice, regardless of the little photography info compared to the King's info, keep it up but I'd like to add more photo techniques tips ;)
Hi, we try different formats and the "How to shoot a...." series is trying to focus more on which behaviours to look out for in an animal with photography as it is just as important as the settings.... The independent techniques can all be found on our channel too - thanks so much for watching - cheers Janine
excellent professional outfit just wish I could afford to spend a couple of weeks with them
Beautiful Pictures 🤗🤗🤗
Why is the African lion infamous and not renowned or something similar? What has it done to deserve that?😊
I love watching these videos with Janine. Superb 👍
Thanks so much - so glad you enjoyed this - cheers Janine
Amazing Janine, and Pangolin Safaris. Please keep these amazing videos, tips, and hints coming. So thoroughly enjoy them.
Hi Charmaine, thanks so much - we will do so, cheers Janine
Janine, your video certainly has highlighted a few important aspects which I had not considered before - thanks again for an excellent video - hope to see you guys again before long.
Hi Dieter, so good to hear from you. How are you guys doing? cheers Janine
Such an informative video... Got to learn new things. Thanks a lot Janine for sharing your knowledge. 😊
Thanks so much - cheers Janine
One of your best videos! Loved watching this so much for my upcoming trip in Kenya :)
Wow, thank you!
Excellent presentation. I remember the lion on Giraffe so well. "Eau de Morte". Would love to experience more with Pangolin and the much loved team.
Yes, it was such a beautiful morning - Wendel and Hengeline were also with us. So weird
how an image can transport you right back in time - cheers Janine
We'll be seeing you in 3 weeks. We can't wait.
🎉🎉🎉 Awesome.... can't wait. We are cleaning and scrubbing and fixing this side - cheers Janine
Very enjoyable look at the lion. I would be interested in the jackals and large birds of prey.
Cool, we will definitely look into that - cheers Janine
Jannie, thank you for a wonderful views of our king of the 'beasts'🐹🐹🐹🐹🐹
Hi Harvey, you are so welcome - cheers Janine
Thanks Janine! Great stuff! I can't wait to get to try out this advice for myself...
Thanks so much Jon, hope it will be very soon - cheers Janine
Wow Janine !
You have upped your presentation game ! Congrats !
Hi Claude, thanks so much
I liked your mane! Very appropriate for the subject.
😂😂😂 glad you picked up on it - cheers Janine
Really an amazing presentation with scenarios that I have been fortunate enough to shoot on my last 6 safaris as well as some aspirational shots for this November on your Chobe-Okavango-Kalahari safari. And part of my great anticipation, by the way, is wondering which phenomenal photographic guide will be accompanying! For future how-to videos, I would like to see something about capturing the smaller creatures -- meerkats, mongoose, serval, African wild cat or even reptiles for example. Thanks again!
great video, esp. the "low_key" nature of the studio, and the back-lighting,especially as it shines on your sleves, a great mood shown & one would HAVE to say a......"roaring sucess", pun intended here :-)
Hope to see u in near future amazing explanation
Great watch thanks Janine. Images look superb!
Hi Trevor, thank you so much - cheers Janine
An excellent interesting presentation with a lot of useful information
Thanks so much for watching our videos Lawrie - if you enjoyed this maybe the Elephant video is also great for you? - cheers Janine
Excellent informative video Janine.....it stirred up many memories of my last trip to Botswana. Cannot wait to come back and do a photo safari under your team's excellent guidance.
impressive photos, thank you
Fantastic video, Janine! Just all my memories are coming back to me: A lion pride in the early morning light at Chobe waterfront. The social interactions where mind blowing.
Are you using for these cases (multiple animals) or for hunting action the AF-cluster with a less open A (approx 5.6?)?
Thanks a lot - cant wait to come back! :-)
Hi Joerg, I always use a single point focus to be honest... I just don't trust cluster focus and like to rely on my own precision. The new animal eye detection AF helps a lot.... for action shots and group shots I tend to try and push my aperture around F8.... even though I honestly always prefer the look of a wider aperture but if I am less confident in my focusing and tracking abilities due to a specific scenario or I know there is a lot of interaction i will narrow it down
@@PangolinWildlife Dankeschön, Janine und tolle Naturerlebnissse Dir weiterhin : -) Lg, Jörg
Great video. I've been fortunate to have traveled to Africa several times and seen (and photographed) many lions. But, your video now provides me with additional insights for future trips. My favorite African animal is the giraffe -- might this be a topic for a subsequent video? Thanks again for this and all of the Pangolin videos.
OUTSTANDING as always. I love your work.
Thank you so much Michael - cheers Janine
Excellent presentation by a very knowledgable photographer! Keep them coming Janine! I have travelled to Kenya twice - the light and yellow dominant colours require some post to show them at their best. I would be interested in knowing what post processing you do - especially for fine art BW. Aim to join you when the world becomes normal!
... very helpfull, great presentation. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Super , Very Informative and on point, Next Leopard and Pack of Hyenas
Thank You Janine. tannie Gerdaxx
Thanks so much - Janine
Very helpful and thoughtful information. Thank you.
What an excellent tips to capture great photos. I felt as though I was there . Thank you Janine.
Really enjoyed this video - hope my photos improve
Hi Quix, let me know how it goes - cheers Janine
Hi! could you advice which focal range zoom is the best to use on your safari trips?
70-200,100-300,100-400,200-400,200-600
I am thinking on just highly ranked brands (Nikon,Canon,Sony).
Hi Zsolt H. I'm also a Zsolt H. Pleased to meet you :)
@@zih5903 :-) I am from Hungary. and you?
I tought Zsolt is a tipical hungarian (last) name. no?
@@zsolth9411 I was born and live in Australia however my parents are Hungarian. Zsolt is my Christian/first name.
Just love how people meet each other here
Hi Zsolt from Hungary 🙂🙃🙂 well, this really depends a bit on your budget, the sensor and brand you are shooting. I am personally shooting Canon so let's use it as an example. For Safari you will need a minimum of 400mm focal range. So the 100-400 mark ii from Canon is an amazing versatile lens. However, 400mm is often not enough on a full frame sensor which is why Canons new RF lens is a 100-500mm ... those extra 100mm can really make a huge difference. So if you can gain a reach of 600mm through focal length, crop sensor, or even extenders would be perfect. If budget makes no difference to you I would bring a 500mm or 600mm prime lens and the 100-400 / or alternatively 100-500 (if you shoot mirrorless) to remain flexible.... then you still require a wide angle lens though.... If you only want to bring one lens and budget remains free I would choose the 200-400mm with the in built 1.4x extender....at the same time I like to carry my 70-200mm F2.8 in case I find lions in super dark light conditions on a kill..... but again- this is a conversation that is hugely dependent on your budget, your brand, your camera body, and your travel restrictions regarding weight.... I hope this helped you - cheers Janine
Janine, love the hair! Killer! Just say'in!
😂 thanks... I thought I might sport a mane myself - I simply plaited my hair the night before the good old fashioned way -cheers Janine
Kudu Bulls , the Grey Ghosts of the Bush next
Great suggestion... so difficult to photograph as they love the dense African bush - but such a beautiful animal - cheers Janine
Nice and well described Madam.🙏🙏
Thanks a lot - Janine
Thanks a lot for your insights!!!
You are so welcome Felix... thanks so much Janine
Very nice and useful video. Thanks!
Fantastic video, I have seen it many times, you are a very professional woman charm, I hope that when I can go to Africa there are still all these beautiful animals and I hope that the world becomes aware of the importance of preserving this region quickly before they become extinct. Thank you very much for your time and for sharing your knowledge. I hope before I die I have the pleasant experience participating in a Safari with all of you.
Hi Jorge, it is much closer than you think... cheers Janine
Leopards are shy cats difficult to photograph
