I came out to my parents as Nonbinary over a year ago. My mom started using my "new" name half a year ago, my dad only before a few days, after my therapist talked to him. I've got friends in school who I'm out to and they immediately started calling me Leigh. I'm proud that I've come so far, I even cutted my hair short and started wearing clothes I like. As I'm a person struggling with depression, I often think I will never live the way I want to, and it's good to see how far I already came.

Trying to talk neutral on spanish can be really discouraging. I know some non binary folx that would like to use Elle/le/e (spanish for They/Them) but it gets messy to explain, and they don't feel prepared to explain it to others :( So they put their prefered pronouns only on english.
Personally I think that the more people using it, would become less ""weird"" to listen/talk/write and people could understand it better, but I obviously respect pals who prefers sticking to the binary pronouns.

As an italian non-binary person I struggle with pronouns and and names too. But I found out that in the italian vocabulary is been approved the ə.
Basically you use it for neutral adjectives or names.
    Here's an example:
    male: amico
    female: amica
    non-binary: amicə
When you use the ə is mute, so it kinda feels like a dialectical form but with time you get used to it.
For pronouns, with my friends I've been using ləi. Here's an example:
Male: lui è andato a comprare il latte
Female: lei è andata a comprare il latte
Non-binary: ləi è andatə a comprare il latte.
I don't know if "ləi" is in the dictionary yet but for now I'll use it as a solution to my pronouns problem only among friends.
I hope I helped some italian non-binary people with this comment🙂

about the pronouns in other languages, i really dislike when ppl put * or x at the end of words bc it’s unreadable, but fortunately in Portuguese (which had the same issue as other languages that originated from latin) the neutral pronoun is becoming more popular, so instead of saying the articles like a (fem) or o (masc), you can use ê, for pronouns instead of ela (fem) or ele (masc) you can use elu, and for word terminations, -a (fem) or -o (masc) you can use -e
so for example we could instead of saying latinx which is unpronounceable we could say latine (which is still neutral and pronounceable!)

its the same with arabic we have the ending to refer to a male or female and its kinda weird when u refer to enby or anyone who use they/them in plural but im getting more familiar with that
im using they/she pronouns as well and my friends never used they/them to me bc i think it sounds weird to them😭

You're not the only one to struggle with according the words (I don't know if "according" is the right word, but when you put the masculine or the feminine at the end of a word like you said). I'm French and it's so complicated 😭
For the pronouns we have "iel/ellui" (a contraction of "il/elle" and "lui/elle", wich mean "he/she" and "him/her"), but when we want to say "he/she is happy", we have to say "il est content" or "elle est contente", and there's no official way to use a neutral ending of the word (officially, the masculine is also the neutral, but it's very controversial). Personnaly, when I write, I use the medium point (it's an unofficial way to make adjectives neutrals), so if I want to say "I'm happy" I'll say "je suis content•e". But you can't say that, you have to use the masculine, the feminine or the -ae ending (you say "je suis contentae" but I don't really know how to pronounce it and I don't like to use this for me so I use the masculine). It's very difficult, even for a French person 😭

I have the same issue with French. In French I use the new special non binary pronoun "iel" but indeed there is that same problem about adjectives being pronounced differently. I just use feminine in that case to break the "masculine prevails" which is everywhere in French.

A couple weeks ago I tried to explain to my family what nonbinary means and about the pronouns, I'm german so it got really complicated at that point because our literal translation of 'them' is the same word as for 'she', but the form of the verb is still different and 'their' is also different and at the end I had the feeling I had more questions than them 🙈 Everything I know about it is through english... So if anybody can recommend a video or something for german language, that would be perfect 🙈
    Ps: I love these videos

There's no video I know of, but nibi.space/ has a lot of info. As a neutrois myself I'm considering using 'es'. Like 'schwul' was reclaimed as a self-descriptor instead of a slur I'd like to reclaim 'es' as a perfectly normal and neutral pronoun instead of it being a slur. Everything else just sounds wrong in my ears and doesn't flow. I also shortly considered 'dey/dem' in reference to the English option but found myself continuing to speak in English so, eep. :D

This made me realize that there’s a strangely high overlap between my non-binary friends & my Italian speaking friends...
The last time I had a conversation about using their pronouns in Italian v. English w/ one of them, this friend decided it was easier to use the pronouns they were assigned at birth (in Italian) instead of going through the hassle of explaining gender identity. We were also working at a school in a more rural area of Italy, so they didn’t necessarily feel comfortable outing themselves to our coworkers & students. I hope that Italians have more of a dialog about this issue, since I’m curious to see what solution(s) they reach

  • @RealPumpkinJay

I do have those issues regularly when talking in my native German. I don’t live in Germany though, so that isn’t an issue.
I’ve been non-binary in my head a looooooot longer than openly, so I don’t have that much of an issue there.
My biggest struggle is getting other people to respect my pronouns in every day living without feeling like I am being a hassle. Everybody basically ignores it.
