Honestly your outlook on life and family is what makes you my favorite angler. Hope to grow and be just like you. Even if I'm 53 years old. God bless brother
You explained that perfectly. I've said this many times in my life from experiences I have from a young man. These smells bring you back to a time period that you'll never forget and at times it may bring tears to your eyes. Not bad one but one's that have been missed that you'll never forget. I hope you get your smell on this trip. Thank you for doing video's like this. Your truly a special person and we all love hearing your stories.
My father has been my hunting partner for over 40 years, his battle with Alzheimer's has prevented him form hunting with me this year. Your video was able to put my feelings into words. I hunt that smell each time I enter the river bottom where he and I have hunted for years. Thank you Gman! It does my heart good to know that there are others out there hunting the "smell" of a memory to relive it one more time.
You want to hunt that smell, you enjoy hunting , you can’t kill ‘em if your not hunting . And you find that smell because you get up and go look for it . Sorry for your loss . Even bad days are good days . Keep your head up looking forward smiling PMA.
For me it's that solitude sitting on a lake waiting for first cast. There are only so many places on earth one can find that solitude. Grace and peace to you and Ms Lulu. I'll be on Lake Fork this weekend chasing "unders". Fish on!
It’s a miracle this video popped up on my feed.I had a dream last night that my mom was in the room. When I woke up.I thought I could smell her perfume.Just a small hint of it.I woke up my wife .Bad idea folks!I ask her if she had bought the same perfume that mom wore.I ask her if she could smell it,but she didn’t.Only the ones who have lost someone knows about the smells.Great one “G”!
I get you 1000%. There's more to things than just the hunt or just fishing.. it's the memories you made with that person, your chasing. My father passed 8 years on the 14th of December. And I think of him every day. Every labor day weekend I head north 4 hours to fish the Menomonie River, a place that my father always brought me too. Mikey's Spot... and every time I pull the trigger on a hunt, he's riding the bullet to its destination. Because his ashes are mixed into the gun powder I use. He's with me ALWAYS... you'll never stop looking for the smell. I know... God Bless you for keeping him alive... Memories....
thats wild, because i had a flashback smell of elementary school at work. it put me in a whole different vibe. I remember it like it was yesterday. I couldnt imagine loosing one of my brothers, but the connection is still there.
Thanks G man lost my dad last year. He was my mentor for hunting fishing and trapping. I guess I always go out to find that smell too. Fish the same waters as we did before trap the same lands and hunt the same lands keeps memories alive. God bless
Lost my pops in 2017, I had a great childhood, he took me hunting everywhere. Miss him everyday. I think of him on a lot of things but especially when I smell gunpowder
Spot on G!! You get it. I wish more hunters, and fisherman would get it too. God give you those moments. Those special moments we get to receive. What a blessing! What a blessing! You are special G!
That's hit my heart! My best friend was murdered in 2010 and I haven't been the woods since! Starting to get the itch too go back to hunting cause I know that's what he would've wanted me to do! Hopefully I get that smell and get the urge to go!!!! Thanks G!!!!!
Absolutely 💯! There's so much wisdom & life in the parables you spit G-Man!! SURE nuff flip that pain upside down, burying it in under the ground, growing a fresh, positive view on the situation! Protect Gerald Swindle he's a national treasure & son he's ReaL as it gets!
I met Gerald and his wife, at a convenient store, as they were going to Lake Oneida many years ago. I had one picture left on my Kodak. I took a picture of Gerald and my buddy. I should have taken a picture of his wife... ( much better looking) All that a side... You are one of the absolute best... Never change....
I lost my Mother on December 8th 2017 to cancer one of the last things she said to me was Fish I need to look for that smell when im fishing Tournaments Thanks Gman you dont know how much youve changed my life ive got to meet you and Lula a couple times i even stayed at your BNB last year at the Toyota Series Thank You Again PMA :):):)
My brother, what powerful words, we all have that smell or the things that we see it brings back such powerful memories of dear friends and family. Thanks for the powerful message.
Couldn't agree more, I can't get that dirt road smell I loved as a kid back again. And nothing reminds me More of my mother who passed over 20 years ago than the smell of a tomato patch. Thanks for reminding me of the joy of a good smell and thanks for sharing such a personal moment. 5 x 3 brother.
That reminds me of my late dad. He always said, “It’s about the quality not the quantity”. Took me a long time to understand but basically it’s exactly what you described. It’s about the little things that bring the quality into perspective.
Thank you for always being an inspiration Gerald Swindle! Watching you has helped me get through both the good times and the bad in my life. I have been struggling with my health since 2017 and I lost my dad shortly there after. You’ve inspired me to stay positive even through the darkest times. I wish I had the opportunity to meet you. Thank you for being human and sharing that with all of us.
My uncle just past the 15th of November he was my fishing buddy and he taught me the right and wrongs in life. I never had a dad but he was alwsys there. So I know exactly what you are talking about. But I know I will see him again as you will see your brother in Heaven with God the father and our savior. I hope God blessed you and your family
Wow G Man thanks for the reminder! Today my father would have been 79 if still alive, lost him 23 years ago. I did have that moment today while I was out on the Phoenix!
Hey Gerald Joe is looking down and he is so proud of you. I lost my farther, step father and my mom. When you don't have family around anymore and your all by yourself on the holidays it's tough. Hey Gerald God bless Joe's heart. God bless you and your family your pal fisherman Mike.
Purchased my firearm license this year after 5 years of stepping back. I did it exactly for the same reason. The smell of wet oak leaves mixed with moss. If ya know, ya know
Oh my God, I thought I was sort of not all there for so long because there were certain special times, generally associated with hunting, hiking, fishing or some sort of outside activity, that a certain smell would be associated with a moment of good memory. I would always look for that or hope to expect it when I would do similar activities. Never mentioned it to anyone, mostly because I thought they would not understand or think I was a little wacked. Thank you.
I had to say goodbye to my best friend last March(my dog) We had a favorite wooded area to go walk in and when i go there i swear i can sometimes here her collar jingle. Lately i seam to be happiest when I'm in those woods. Thanks fir sharing, think ill take a walk now..
G ….. thx this race is fast n we forget to slow down n smell the roses or in your case a gate…. That stuff keeps us going thanks for reminding us …. Your a good man wish I knew ya god bless from the great white north…eh!!!
Thanks for sharing this story. I lost. My father years Ago and you hit the nail on the head so to speak. Good bless. You your words. Videos. Are more of a reflection on life. Thanks. G. Your good people
Thank you Gman. A guy run a red light when I was on my way to my 2nd job this afternoon and I T-boned him and totaled my Jeep today. I needed to hear that.
Thanks GMAN, lost my best friend almost two years ago, we duck hunted a lot together and i know what you mean when i go sit in the blind where we hunted at. It is not every time but every one in a while that smell will be there again and not for long. God bless you and your family and have a great holiday season
Yep that one about got me . Got a dove field I plant and put too much time in . Not enough doves to make it work it but last place my dad got to shoot 15 years ago before the cancer. That smell is a driving force
I know what your talking about, there is a smell during spring turkey hunting that reminds me of hunting with my dad and then again in the late fall the dying leaves mixed with cool hypothermals it hits me again and a rush lod times and memories take over. I thought I was alone in this wonderful torture and happiness.
My papas been dead over twenty five years and every now and then the smell in the hardwoods the leaves reminds me of going hunting with him when I was a kid still miss those days
This really hits home for me. I suddenly lost my Dad on September 25th of this year. And I have these moments just about every day. It may not be a smell that brings me back. Maybe a song, something I see on the side of the road while driving or a something that happens in the Astros or Cowboys game that makes me want to text him. But its always something that brings his memory back. And I know that the hurt is still fresh but I hope and pray that I never lose these thoughts of him. This weekend it was while deer hunting in South Texas and the fog bank that blew in on Sunday morning. Brought me back to sitting in our duck blind on Caddo Lake. My God I miss him. 😢😢
That is AWESOME Gman. My wife still does not understand why I want to sit by myself in my deer stand or prefish an event by myself. It's those special moments that cause you to stop and reflect on life, people and memories that God has put before us. That is what is so special. God bless.
GMan, I feel you a hundred percent. I lost my dad in 2013, it never get easy but the grace of god is wonderful to know one day we will meet agin up in heaven. God bless my friend gif bless
I get it my friend.... I am not a hunter but I am an avid fisherman. The smell of the leaves and the river on a cold fall morning....makes me think of my uncle jack and the great times we had salmon and steelhead fishing. Thanks for sharing. Sorry for the loss of your brother.
The way you look at everything is why you are one of my favorite anglers!!! I hope you smell that smell and have an awesome hunting season! Amen to you and keep being you Gman!
Where did I go wrong in life for me to not have time to do things like this? Good luck in your endeavors and hopefully as my kids grow, I'll have time to do similar ones
I have smelt a smell that takes you back to a time where peace wasn’t hard to come by in life. When I smell I I always smile and say thank you for the life you gave me lord. Good and Bad!!
Honestly your outlook on life and family is what makes you my favorite angler. Hope to grow and be just like you. Even if I'm 53 years old. God bless brother
