- I'm flying back to Japan in economy class on Japan Airlines, which is recognized as the world best economy class (Skyrax). The seat and in-fight service is amazing.

That economy class looks remarkably comfortable with more leg room than usual. I am glad you had a safe and pleasant trip home.
He must be small, I am 6’2 and my knees hit the seat in front of me. JAL seats are made for the Japanese.
I live in LA and I thought the people in Japan around the Tokyo area are taller than we are here in the states. Statically they are 1.5" shorter as a country, but I think it's different in Tokyo as I was surprised to see so many people there over 6 feet tall.
The seats of JAL are one of the roomiest economy seat you can find. If it's too small for you, go take a buisness class ticket ...
@@Saidakine
The Asian carriers are way more humane to passengers than Western ones are. All JAL Sky Wider seats have a minimum of 33 inches and up to 34 inches. My WestJet 737, 787-9, Air Canada A220, and 787-9 economy seats only offered 30 inches.
Yes agreed. JAL has the most spacious economy seats of ALL airlines. The space can match premium economy i must say. You need even more space? Stop whining & pls buy business class seats.
Great to see video on economy class. All the bloggers post mostly business class which only very people get to travel on
That is why I am only subbed to Simply Aviation. It's almost only travel and review economy experiences.
Agree!!!!
JAL needs to sponsor you for sure... you are the best spokesman - even when flying economy class!
Booo. Marketing. Booooo
They did thats why he was nice about 5h delay
@@itsme2084if they sponsored them they wouldn’t have even mentioned the delay lol but nice try ig
Great to see an economy review where the experience is great. JAL is a fantastic choice when travelling economy. Nice video too.
I've flown with JAL a few times. The service is amazing.
Your travel videos are the best and the only ones I watch anymore! There are so many reasons why. I love the written out captions, which eliminates trying to understand someone's foreign accent. Plus if there's a word I've never heard of, I can pause the video and look it up. Your sense of humor is hilarious! And the wide variety of places you showcase, from Canada to the Swiss Alps, and of course Japan. And your photography is so professional. Thank you so much for all you do to take us to these beautiful vacation spots!!
I'm afraid you're being confused with other creators. I have not been to Canada or Switzerland in my channel. I would appreciate it if you wouldn't confuse me with anyone else. Thank you very much. STJ
All Dreamliners were supposed to be a 2-4-2 economy seat configuration, but the accountants had other ideas!
*"The money is always right"* Mr Krabs from SpongeBob
Actually it was the engineers that took 2 inches off the cabin width. Then they designed a 17” seat to fit.
I once travelled by British Airways Dreamliner from Chennai to London by Economy Class. Seating was cramped, bad leg-space. The ten hour journey was quite uncomfortable. Dreamliner with 9 abreast seating is inhuman. Someone should have gone to court to prevent the airlines to do these atrocities
I agree, 3-3-3 configuration on the Dreamliner is a terrible idea and it deserves to be abolished for good.
Welcome to my home airport. Sorry you had to eat Panda Express. We consider that pretty bad food and try to avoid it. Unfortunate your plane got delayed.
I like the 2-4-4 config on the seats.Because you will have more room for you and your seat partner.
And i love when they give a $15 meal voutcher for delayed flight.
I love JAL Air line.
I wish i could fly JAL Air line
to japan and to other citis in japan or near japan. And I love your food vidios.
You can't have an airport experience without having Panda Express! LOL
The 2-4-2 seating would make sense for many families, sandwiching the two kids between the parents. I hope your stay in the US was enjoyable!
The first time i took JAL was when as a kid, i won their haiku competition which had me flying to japan for a haiku summit on their airlines. It was such a memorable flight because the crew took great care of me and it was overall a great start to a once in a lifetime experience (meeting kids from other countries, writing haikus together, playing at the beach, going on a mountain retreat(??) etc hahaha)
Thanks for this video!
That's a really cool story :)
One of your endearing qualities whether on land, sea or air is that you do not hesitate to have seconds or thirds when you eat. You’re just like me. If I’ve paid for it, I’m eating it. Love your reviews. Cheers, Colin.
I just realized I'm so old that i remember when air travel was fun, exciting and possibly part of the vacation!
It still is.
It always is lol
Me, too.
Me, too.
@wach3610 definitely isn't. I flied with ITA airways last month, never again. Ofc with annoying screaming kids on the plane every flight will be awful. But having comfort in your own seat and good earphones is still a good start.
I remember the big breakfast at the Qantas lounge. It was incredible and delicious. One of the best lounges for a la carte dining
Retired now, but NRT was one of my "stop-overs" on my way to other Asia/Pacific countries (company rules that any flight travel over 8 hours bumped us to business class, so never flew economy). Although 11 hours isn't all that long........not when one has a 27 hour flight, not sure I would opt for economy. 😊 NRT is a GREAT airport for a lay-over, by the way. Thanks for the journey, STJ! It's fun traveling with you! P.S. Not sure how you stay so thin! 😍👍👏✨❤
It's great if you don't have to pay for the business class seat.
This is exactly what I’ve been hoping to see! I want to use JAL for my trip to Japan next year and I was curious to see what their economy flight was like from LAX. The fact that they employ a 2-4-2 seat configuration makes a huge difference in terms of comfort and space.
Thank you for sharing another helpful video 😊👍🏼🌸
Just a friendly heads up. Delta airlines A330-900 planes also use a 2-4-2 and generally are dramatically cheaper than JAL (if price is an issue)
@@brianbentley8631 only in premium economy. Economy is still 3-3-3
It’s an airplane. That’s it. A plane. With check in. security up your anus. Never pleasant. Even private, still sterile cramped unchimp friendly. We need boats. Trains. Specialty regional restaurants , not commercial freakin plane.
(:
You work for JAL marketing firm.
"You're not going to regret flying with JAL"
Me: I wonder if he's spondered??
"I'm not spondered by the way"
😳😂
Because of your channel, I am landing in Narita next Monday!!! I am beyond excited! I started watching your awesome little mini movies over a year ago on binge mode, then over again. I obsessed until I took control of my destiny and booked a flight to Japan. I’ve made my own Itinerary and purchased my JR pass before the price almost doubled, and thrifted my ultra Japan wardrobe, and I’m ready to LET’S GO TOKYO (Kyoto, kofu/Yamanashi, and Minobu too!) 🫶🏻
Thank you for all of the beautiful inspiration.
Many years ago -1986 flew JAL the same route but on a 747. Just very special service. I remember the soba noodles.
Nice trip report, thank you. It does look much better than most economy product. Also if you buy economy flex fare or premium economy you also get lounge access which I don't think any other carrier does this!
You really lucked out not having someone next to you on such a long flight. Surprised that they didn't offer earplugs. I flew Qantas last month and they offered them both ways. Looked like a fantastic flight.
I flew JAL economy in February, I have zero complaints. IN fact I am torn if I want to go back to Japan or visit Korea for my next vacation.
It seemed like you had a lovely, relaxing flight back to Japan. Solo san brings a smile😊 to my face when he tries his first bite and we see the double '!!' 🥰...Impressive amount of food he can pack away!
Champagne with breakfast ? I can’t do that ! I need a hot cup of coffee ☕️ along with a good hefty amount of delicious breakfast foods 🥯🥚🍳🍞🥓🧇🥞🍽️🥨
Anaheim? That would imply Disneyland! But did you get to see ⚾ Ohtani play? 🤔✌️😎 (Sorry for your delay, yet glad you got to try Panda Express! 😋)
I haven't had the opportunity to fly with JAL, but I have flown long haul (10+ hours) with Lufthansa, SAS and KLM, all in Economy and in my experience, Economy on long haul flights is generally really good (especially compared to shorter flights) I've done my long hauls in Airbus A340 and Boeing 747 and I much prefer those aircrafts over Boeing 737 or the smaller models of Airbus used in short to medium flights. I do find A340 to be more comfortable than 747, but both are good even on a 10-11h flight. Not sure if I'd fare as well now though as I have (more severe) chronic pain now compared to when I went on my long trips and I now struggle to sit for long due to pain so if possible, I'd go with business class if I have a long flight simply to be able to recline the seat more, I really don't care about the other bonuses of business class or first class, Economy is all good in my book, I just need to be able to lie down or semi lie down due to my condition. That said, I'd be happy to try JAL Economy one day, maybe even to Japan if my boyfriend and I are able to go there sometime. The seat looks like it might even be somewhat comfortable for my boyfriend who's about 2 meters tall (Dutch) and for me at 174cm tall (I'm almost considered tall for a Swedish woman) the extra leg space would definitely be nice compared to my previous long haul flights that were good but definitely could have used a few more cm of leg space. But for my boyfriend's sake, I'd probably try to book seats with extra leg room in Economy just because of his height.
I'm also one of those maybe weird people who actually likes the in-flight meals when flying. I don't get why people complain so much about the food onboard, it's an airplane with very limited space and over 1000 meals on board (if you're on one of the really big planes), it's not a restaurant with a full kitchen... In-flight meals are really good for what they are.
The food on this flight looked really good imo
I love JAL. Economy class seats are spacious.
By the way, I took the co-share flights on AA. Not too bad as I prefer the night flight to arrive to the destination in the morning.

This Solo traveler is a foodie 😋😋😋😋
I just flew Japan with JAL and like their service.
Solo san, I am incredibly sorry about your Big breakfast at the start of your trip. Thats kinda small for Australian Standards. Our big breakfast in all our cafe's in Australia Fill up the plate, almost overflowing. That bacon was a questionalble colour unless its the lighting.
I like your optimism during your delay, Some of us would have lost it by now xD AND your right, that economy class is awesome. Maybe i should try a Japanese airlines from Aust next time.
I usually fly JAL (a fantastic experience all around) but recently flew ANA on an 8-hour international flight and back. No comparison. The experience was much less than wonderful. I'll be sticking with JAL in the future.
The bacon on the American breakfast looks incinerated.
“Angus beef something” sounds pretty accurate for Panda Express 😏
I have to say the food looked disappointing. This flight was so different. Didn't look enjoyable. 😮
The airplane looks amazing.
I love Japan Airlines
The second meal looks delicious
Gosh, they delayed your flight for so long! That didn't look like too bad a flight really. I've never been on a plane so big, only the smaller 3-3 ones. Maybe one day I'll fly JAL!!! That looked like a super pleasant flight. You'll just have to come back to try in-n-out, though :) though, idk, I was disappointed the last time I tried a new chain - five guys' fries really aren't my cup of tea, tch.
im jealous, i just returned from my 5 months study abroad trip in tokyo, i want to go back as soon as possible!!!
Panda Express familiar food looks good when you eat it on your channel 😂
omg you were in Anaheim and didn't stop by to say hello?? I'm so hurt! I would've loved to go on a foodie tour with you!!! :) :)
My favorite international economy seat among all the airlines whether it's operated using the 787 or 767. Even the premium economy on the 787-9 is by far the best premium economy
The bacon in the Qantas lounge was a monstrosity and I'm sorry that you had to experience that.
You missed out on In-N-Out....lol had to
Nice trip,delicious food
That lavatory is bigger than the one BA has in first class on their 787-9 + 787-10
I was just thinking the same thing about the tomatoe slice , lol
I cringed at the look of the "mushrooms" on your plate. They looked and probably tasted burnt. I hope you had syrup with those pancakes. Was there a reason for the Panda Express meal? I have to say, after seeing all the beautiful meals you've had while traveling around Japan, our meals here in the US cannot compare. In fact, the US meals are far and away a whole different class of meals. I was surprised at the passengers walking on the tarmac and a bus ride to get onto an airplane. That doesn't usually happen in LAX so it makes me wonder even more about the reason for the delay. Don't know how long you were in LA (my home city) but I know you would have enjoyed an In-N-Out burger. Definitely a California legend. That was the sorriest excuse for fried rice I've ever seen, however, if you enjoyed it more power to you. I would have passed on it though.
Hope you had a decent time in our neck of the woods!
I recently checked JAL prices and they've dropped quite a bit for return fares (might just be a sale though)...just a shame one way is so expensive (was thinking of trying another airline on the way back). But yeah, the economy seat looks very good, and being 2-4-2 is very nice considering how rare it is.
Zipair is run by them and is also very affordable.
Starlux is Taiwanese and quite a good value too.
You get what you pay for.
I hope you had a pleasant visit to Orange County! This video is very helpful for us, since we usually fly economy to Tokyo.
We actually have some decent curry restaurants around here, it would be fun to see you do a curry video from SoCal on your other channel sometime. :)
I absolutely loved the JAL miso soup!!! I wish i could have it at home but havnt been able to find anything close enough to taste the same. It was such a wonderful taste and made me feel so cosy
Looked like red miso soup that I get at my grocery in USA. It's instant and very good.
@annettefournier9655 I live in the UK but I don't think I've tried red miso soup so have just ordered some off amazon 😁 If this is the version of miso they serve then omg thank you so much for helping me find it!! Fingers crossed 🤞
I am Japanese. I'm very happy to hear that you think Japanese miso soup is delicious ♥️ I hope you come to Japan and eat lots of it anytime! At that time, please come on Japan Airlines lol
@user-si1eq8bc6i Oh we are saving up to come visit again as we very much enjoyed our time when we visited on our honeymoon, 5 years ago now! Our next visit will be more special as we now have 2 daughters who we can't wait to share the experience with. Will certainly be using JAL Airlines again, the service was amazing and of course their miso soup lol
@@Sarahloo2291 Well! I'm glad that you think so much about Japan ♥️ I'm looking forward to seeing you again in Japan!
I'll fly with JAL soon and I also choose the last row seat , were you able to recline your seat?
I wish JAL had better headphones though. As everything else is amazing
This guy loves a munch! 🍽
He hungry.
When someone running a kitchen is lazy and careless enough to send out something obviously burnt , it not only says a lot about them but also about the brand they’ve been hired to represent and provide a service for.. I think you said it’s called a ‘first class’ lounge, but judging by how huge the space is with lots and lots of seating for 100’s of people, it’s not what they say it is..I have no interest in Qantas in any way.. but I’m always interested to see vlogs about JAL and how good their products are.. it seems their long haul economy cabin is indeed a cut above the competition.. thanks for showing it to us ..🙏
"Stop the plane, I need to get In n Out first!" 😅
Thanks for Always travelling and eating, Solo-san 🤘🍥🤘
🇦🇺💜🇯🇵
Next time you are in LA and have time, take a side trip to San Diego, find a Robertos Mexican fast food place and order a Carne Asada Burrito. You will be very happy. Not as happy as if you were having curry, but still, very happy.
The Qantas lounge big breakfast looked rather disappointing. Definitely wasn't up to the standard of a nice cafe breakfast in Australia.
It looked like the lowlight of the trip. Cheers, Guy
'i'm not sponsored by the way' You should be! XD also it was uniquely hysterical to see you eating Panda Express. I loved it.
What did he do in LA?
Probably visited
Why go to Korean Town’s hostess bar of course!
Don't feel too bad about the in-N-out. It was almost at the top of my son's to-do list in Vegas last year and he found it to be completely underwhelming compared to other burgers out there, so did all of the friends he was traveling with. I know everything is a matter of personal taste, but like he said, if you've never had others, you might not know what you've been missing.
Did you order straight from the menu on the sign, or from the secret menu? If you ever eat at in n out again, try ordering a double double “animal style.” Much yummier than a regular one.
Sorry you missed having In-N-Out. I will make sure to have a Double-Double for you next time I'm there. 😉
When you said "Economy Class," I instantly thought, "Cattle Class." No, so, not bad for economy, but those delays must have been a problem!
Very nice video of your JAL Flight to Tokyo! Wow, economy class is spacious! I worked for Delta Airlines @LAX for 20 years and would often eat at the nearby IN-N-OUT 🍔 🍟
Everyone always talks about how bad LAX is, I’ve traveled through there many times and never had a problem. In the 80’s , when the Concord was still in operation , every time it took off my house would shake
It's just a shitty airport, badly laid out, and with amazingly poor service. But then, with only one or two exceptions, ALL US airports are pretty much crap compared to the rest of the world. Seattle is nice and Denver has potential, but beyond that? They're all terrible to use - mostly because Americans don't understand what customer service is.
5:30 JAL does something similar with its 777s: Most airlines have 10 seats per row, in 3-4-3 configuration, but JAL opts for 9 seats in 3-3-3 instead
im glad they managed to get you in another JAL plane , almost every single time ive been delayed in a flight due to any kind of technical reason with the plane , we were shoveled to another airline flight , usually with worse seats...
Finally booked with them for my flight in November. Can’t wait
2:50 LOL .. no toasting of raisin bread 😂😂 awesome lounge, great TR! ❤❤
It's not a big American Breakfast unless you add some Home Style Hash Brown potatoes
a bowl of Grits and a short stack of pancakes with butter and syrup. Oh, you can leave off the
fried tomato. Oh and a glass of fresh squeezed Orange Juice and Coffee.
Oh, if you are still a bit hungry order some French Toast.
What's the purple sprinkle on the rice called? The first meal on the flight.
The way that the little boy laughed right on cue with your joke at 11:38 haha
Дякую вам за цікаве відео! Дуже переживала за вас через численні затримки відправлення. Добре, що в лаунжі компанії можно з комфортом провести час! 😍😍😍😍😍😍🇺🇦
Yeah I was wondering too, how does economy seats get u access to the lounge ?
Really awesome. I enjoyed myself so much! Thank you!
Excited for my trip via JAL. However, I am encountering issues with their website. I cannot manage my flight reservation through their website. Anybody else had this experience?
Their website is slow. You just have to be patient using it.
Japan airlines has top notch service, but the seats in economy long haul could use a little more cushioning.
Yes, you should try In N Out the next time you're in California. They're an icon, particularly in the southern part of the state. Opinions vary but most people enjoy the very fresh lettuce, tomato and onions they use.
Nice ride.
How are you able to eat so much and not explode? Two breakfasts, desert coffee, then a snack at a take-out. I would not survive. Curious as to why you did not make use of the window seat? You could have moved away from the isle, flipped up the arm rest and taken both seats quite comfortably. It is usually not a problem on most airlines. I have heard of some Lufthansa crew getting a little stinky about such a move from a colleague in the past few months. No reason for it really.
As usual, thanks for sharing. And.. noted: "I am not sponsored." Ok then. Good for you. Enjoy the freedom of travel for as long as you can.
Hi Solo, 1st time watyching. Is the Sky wider on all JAL economy Planes
The meal at the lounge looked a little sad despite also looking decently tasty or something I would put together myself. You just got us so used to prettier plates it seems :p
Airport delays have been far more common all over North-America since the pendemic :/ A lot of it has to do with staff availability.
2-4-2 is pretty interesting, considering it's 8 seats in the space others use for 9 seats! And I bet they have less rows too...
(I bet In-N-Out isn't that great :p
Are talking ish about In N Out? Your comment offends me good sir!
It's crap try 5 guys you'll love it well you've probably already tried 5 guys with a comment like this 😂
@jaymello5853 5 Guys? Yeah, if I want to spend $17 for a fast food burger and fries. LMAO. In-N-Out is the best.
@jakerson181 that joke went right over your head buddy go get some bjs and relax 😉
Thank you for sharing we’ll be flying next week to Japan from LAX. Our first time economy with Japan airlines.
In terms of seats you can't beat 2-4-2 on a dreamliner. Seat wise JAL wins I think but food wise Emirates wins
JAL's Econ class is ranked #1 wth 34" pitch; van never go wrong with them.
And I'm hungry again. Even the light meal looked better than some airplane food I've gotten!
Is this premium economy? I had three seats per row last I flew Econ with JAL (2018)
No that's simply JAL's Sky Wider economy. Premium econony on that aircraft would be configured 2--3-2. In your case, with three seats across (nine in total) you were almost certainly on a 777-300ER. Cheers. Guy
World’s Best Economy Class? Are you sure?
Based on my experience, JAL is rocking it right now. They are pretty much the only airline that has not densified their wide-bodied Boeing fleet. That's why the video shows a 2-4-2 configuration in economy. Pretty much everyone else has retooled their 787s in a 3-3-3 configuation, packing in one extra person per row. Cheers, Guy
i never knew that red wine paired with pancakes
No matter how much money paid for Japan airline, Will still get better seated
✈️ 💺
I have a flight coming up to Japan and based on everyone's recommendations I am doing economy+ on JAL its nice to see what that looks like.
Great flight. Feels like First Class lite version because nobody is seating beside you.
I booked the exact same seat on my upcoming JAL 787-8 flight because I knew it's comfortable, and it changed to a 767-300... bummer 😭
Same on the Tokyo Haneda - London route. They've just swapped out the 787-8 for the 777-300 🥲
Sorry for your delay. Jal has one of the best on time performances. Any explanation what went wrong this time? I appreciate that when the captain apologizes and explains. This what makes airlines get good ratings too. Thank you for eating well also. I would have gone back to the lounge and get a first class lounge lunch by the way
What time was the original boarding? I missed that. Thank you
The cut sausage had the face of E.T. 😮
Lounge allowed in JAL Economy?
He said he had One World status--that's what got him into that Qantas lounge. Cheers, Guy
Neste voo de classe econômica está incluído bagagem despachada ou é cobrado à parte?
My favorite airline, JAL
