It would appear that David Bowie gave me unrealistic expectations about the Goblin King
You didnt see the Goblin King from The Hobbit?
The way I agreed waiting for the goblin king to be a stunner and it was a chunky slime
It was a piss take and you fell for it...
Dance Magic Dance
Well, it's been a while and he has been eating extremely well...
*Watching this song*
me: "So is this going to be a thing where they need the baby to survive, and it's some dark grey morals?"
*Goblin girls starts singing*
me: "Well... that's refreshingly, yet disturbingly straightforward..."
Kudos to TARDIS for correctly localising an alien song to English language without losing anything in translation & keeping the rhyme.
You know I was just thinking about that and now I'm wondering are goblins even aliens? Who knows they might be speaking actual English here if they happen to be from Earth originally, like the silurians or whatever we see in Listen.
There's literally no reason why these Goblins couldn't just be from the UK
I think these goblins are just average british citizens
I'd argue goblins are not normal aliens: they seem more like the manifestation of something from another dimension; in fact when the king is killed even the wood of the ship disappears iirc
@@the_devolper perhaps a dimension that got shoved into ours when a clever young lad did a trick with some salt
“We can dine 3 days at least” …that is the funniest line, given that they clearly can’t feed they many mouths plus the goblin king for even a second let alone 3 days 😂
Well they might need to eat like 0.5% of what a human eats and they might act as a hive mind where when one has eaten they all have
"Baby bones" "baby blood for the scones" they get the leftovers 😂
I thought they fed mainly on the coincidences? Like how Weeping Angels feed off time?
Given the mystical and superstitious nature of these creatures, they probably feed on the “potential” or “lost time” of the baby, as opposed to the baby itself.
Kind of like the Weeping Angels.
dont they feed on coincidence or something
the extreme coincidence the baby find herself in is prob what feeds her ig
At first, I was like, "OK, what are these nasty critters gonna do with that baby?" But as soon as I said that, the lyrics showed up, and I was like, "Oh, thanks for clearing that up."
I completely agree with your statement
Subtle they were not 😂 🍽️
I’ve seen it and the story is told in this video! They just want to eat the baby and the doctor saves it!! it was a very weak episode! A lot of talking as well! Lazy and boring
Bruh, simple it may be it’s very fun for an episode. Not every episode needs the Doctor saving the universe from a Dalek/Angel alliance or stopping a Flux level anomoly.
@@Gibson1976uk Speak for yourself lol. This episode, and the tennant specials, are the most fun I've had with doctor who in a long time. Was this a particularly high stakes episode? No but thats... honestly a good thing. Doctor Who tends to set the stakes so high so often that it loses all meaning. So I will GLADLY take low stake episodes like this.
"..not a myth hes an actual thing." It seems that invoking superstition at the edge of the universe has made a lot of myths come true. Like bigeneration and goblin kings.
The salt thing let the Toymaker in, whose power made myths into reality.
Guardians of time seem to be out... no one to keep order in the universe.
Maybe Carnival queen herself shall escape her prison.
@@jeckjeck3119I don't buy that at all. The Doctor went up against fantasy and mythological foes with no sci-fi explanation several times in the classic series, especially in the first and second Doctor's eras. This idea of myths only being real in the Doctor Who universe now doesn't check out, because they've always popped up occasionally in the show.
@@HOTD108_
Those were creatures behind the myth, most of them imprisoned or away from wider universe. But Toy Maker made myths themselves a reality.
@@HOTD108_ rtd loves his overarching plot lines. Bad wolf, touchwood, Saxon and the planets disappearing. This is definitely his wheelhouse
it also mentions "he dines on Coincidence"
One thing they NAILED in that season, is The Doctor's passion for observing life forms. In that clip, he exclaims this "amazing" in awe of the goblins as a species (knot language, the taste for music and thus, art), and needs to be reminded by ruby that this is a situation where a baby is gonna die, to act against it.
I love it, it's in perfect continuity with the timelords original statement of "we observe, we don't interfere".
Also the whole crazy aesthetics and insane plots. Dr who has always been cringy in a good way, but cringe has to change over time or it will stop being cringy
I've also thought about this, evidently the Goblin King was the only one who was going to physically eat the baby, which implies to me that the rest of the goblins are linked to him on some level. He eats, the rest of them experience the taste and nourishment, despite not having actually eaten anything.
That explains why they need so little food for so many goblins.
I'm pretty sure it was implied the goblin king eats coincidence and the smaller ones eat the body so he probably spits them back out. They said he dines on coincidence and that they eat with their teeth.
That conforms a bit with them all disappearing once the king dies, it’s like the small goblins are extensions of him rather than actual beings of themselves. They experience taste when he eats, they die when he dies.
yeah, funny, another one said babies make me drool.. The're finger licking good.!! souds like our old friend the Col. Harland Sanders - whom I have met by the way.
That explains why the goblin king is so…
THICC
1:33 "He's not a myth, he's an actual thing!"
I appreciate the sincerely absurd delivery of that lyric.
It's good innit 😅
All in all, I really prefer Jareth to this Goblin King.
There is a theory about how this lyric is connected to ncutis doctor saying bi regeneration is a myth
@@Kayjee17 I was going to say that Jareth really let himself go.
@@vapoetRegeneration. It's a lottery.
Fun Fact: I've heard that exact line " He can eat me, he makes me swoon" (paraphrased) come from more than a few young ladies and women in the 80's, referencing The Goblin King, Jareth. I found that addition humorous.
"Connections"!😂
That's David Bowie for you.
Just ladies and women?
Years from now when a certain child learns they were on Doctor Who as a baby, I hope we all get to see their reaction when they watch this!
Due to filming laws when it comes to infants, that baby will have been played by like a dozen different kids at least. This scene alone would have required several different babies in order to keep a reasonable filming schedule. Luckily babies that young are very hard to tell apart so long as their skin tone is the same, so you can have multiple kids play the same baby without an audience noticing.
I got it. Concern for their welfare is paramount. So that will mean, instead of one child saying _"Bloody hell! That's the cause of my nightmares!"_ there will be several.
@@727Phoenix 😂
Even better - the "goblin babes" can have a reunion!
@@HOTD108_Damn then, a lot of single mums made bank of that episode. Glad they are putting their child through an industry well known for child abuse, in a series produced by a team that is on record for covering up sexual abuse as well as on a television show aimed at children that prominently feature a kink shop (cyber-dog) in its episodes.
Class!
Dangit, Whovians have enough difficulty trying to convince everyone they're normal members of society. Last thing we need is to start singing under our breath this incredible BANGER that is now stuck in our heads, and then having to explain to the coworker who asks what we're humming that it's a Christmas song about goblins eating a baby.
i was doing my paper route yesterday and this song came on in my headphones, so naturally i was aggressively playbacking/dancing to this song in the middle of the street 😭
Okay but if you think about it, the logistics of goblin nutrition are mind-boggling. ONE baby feeds an entire court of goblins for 3 whole days? You could feed legions of goblins with a small nursery!
I thought that, too! And how are they going to feast on the baby if they're feeding it to Jabba The Goblin?
@@gilgameshofuruk4060 maybe the feses
my theory is only the king's gonna eat the baby, maybe when the goblins feed the king they're allowed to eat food the king gives them or something
@@skeletondome or the king just ate brain or eyes or something, and let the rest to his crew.
@@Awelbeckk i really dont think an entire goblin army could eat a single baby for 3 days
When he says "I wonder whose ship this is" I said "David Bowie?"
Not wrong
Lol this was class, I do question how they could "dine for three days at least" when the King looked like he was going to gobble the baby up in one though!
They just be suckling on the king...
And also "big brown eyes". To the goblins the baby's eyes must seem tiny.
Maybe the Goblin King physically eats, but this somehow benefits all Goblins somehow? Just typing that makes me feel a little sick, but the song is so catchy! He's not a myth, he's an actual thing!
One lyric was “Dine On Coincidence”. Maybe it’s like how weeping angels feed on potential energy by sending people back in time. Goblins might feed on coincidence or luck energy of babies.
No like she is a perfect beautiful baby but she is not that big 😭
5% effort put into the lyrics, 200% put into the singing. That's weirdly impressive. Can't fault the performer at all.
Pretty sure the lyrics are meant to be bad... goblins dont look smart lol also they aren't singing in English, this is translated lol
Only doctor who can make a single about goblins eating children.

The Doctor loves him something new and unexpected and this whole musical number definitely qualifies.
Comes off as "I know I'm gonna be able to save her so might as well enjoy the process" which is such a typical doctor thought

I'm guessing they'd not expose their kids to any of those things.
@fgjsdfgjklI doubt most of them are from the US. They’re probably just right wing people upset by the show featuring actors and characters who are black, gay, trans, disabled, etc. and they’re using the narrative that the show’s become unfit for children in other ways to try to make their bigotry seem like more reasonable criticism. From what I’ve seen, this tactic is as popular in British politics as it is in the States.

Normally I'm on the doctor's side, but when the songs that good I say let them eat the baby.
David Bowie's let himself go.
I had my doubts but it just slaps too hard
You need to be slapping yourself for watching Dr who
Hmm.... I'm going to pay attention to the new Dr Who series. That was excellent.
Oh my God, The Goblin Song is so creepy... and camp 😂👏 And I do love Ruby's brilliant instincts at 1:48!
Your what ?
I love this I’m in a middle of a folk of the air AND doctor who hyper fixation so this is actually perfect timing for me ! Great Christmas gift thank you
This is what a meeting with Disney executives looks like.
I was half expecting David Bowie to pop out singing, especially when they mentioned the Goblin King.
Good thing the tardis translation filter was on otherwise we'd never know how much of a banger this song is 😂
i think without knowing what theyre saying itt would sound more like a good song. the lyrics are a major flop
@ThePurpleCheesecakeZebra
Well, what were you expecting from a literal translation? It likely flows MUCH better in goblin language! Give the little guys some credit, they may be horrible baby eaters but they can make a catchy tune!
So the toymakers presence made actual fantasy creatures real? based off the lyric about the king 'not being a myth' that's the impression i'm getting
Most likely the salt superstition.. which led to the toymaker escaping.. the bigeneration myth becoming real.. goblins etc
The invoking of superstition at the edge of the universe opened a rift that allowed myth and fantasy to leak in. Plus the Toymaker made a jigsaw of the Doctor's history implying all previous canon is meaningless because any plot holes can be explained away by "the Toymaker messed it up". Personally I hate both ideas with a passion. RTD has given himself the perfect excuse to write the most ridiculous stories and explain it all away as 'magic'. He's never been great at imaginative science fiction and now he doesn't even have to try. People are loving this but having been a fan since Pertwee's days I find it heartbreaking that the show has descended to a level where singing and dancing goblins are considered a great idea. I'll watch Labyrinth if I'm in the mood for that. I'm sure Disney will just love it, though. Look what they did to Star Wars...
@@filtomsun🙄 God, some people really are missing a sense of humour. Take the stick out.
Keep drinking the Kool Aid.@@somerandomguy2073
I don’t know why I love this so much! It’s playing on repeat in my head and their little dances are so perfect. Not typical Doctor Who but I’m here for it!
It's like Laberynth meets Return of the Jedi with a dash of Goonies.
Ok, I Know I’m weird but… It's my favorite song 😍🤣
WE GETTING OUT OF THE KNOCKOFF FLYING DUTCHMAN WITH THIS ONE BOYS 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣📣📣📣📣📣
I had to listen several times to make sure that the Doctor said, "SHIP"... ;-P
I absolutely loved that the goblin king isn’t CGI. All real material. 7 people total working the parts of the goblin king amazing haha
Wait for real I've missed practical effects
@@chrisbetancourt7111 To my knowledge it's a mix of practical and CGI. A pretty impressive mix of them too.
yea, only using cgi to enhance it, perfect.
I get vibes that Ncutis Doctor is going to be like Davisons Doctor. The big brother figure.
A clown with a red balloon so the goblin king can eat pennywise
Now with The Hobbit and this scene, i can confirm one thing :
The Goblins are the most talentued singers of all times !🎉🎉😮
I hope we get to see more of Janis even if it's not really possible considering what happened to the Goblin's
We know the Goblin King was stabbed and the ship disappeared ... but that doesn't mean they died. Maybe it was a teleport or banishment thing when the King dies. There's still hope for Janice to be the next Companion 🙂
@@TomWDW1 I don't think there is but I would love to see it happen, but they went back into the past meaning they died or disappeared long before we saw Janice in the future but who knows when it comes to time travel logic we may be suprised since we've had multiple doctors all at once and now bi-generation we'll have to wait and see what this next series of Doctor Who brings us.
I agree. Janice stole the show!
I love seeing the series re-embracing that campy, 'anything can happen' energy again. It's supposed to be bizarre and purposely unlike anything else on TV.
This qualifies 😂
Anything can happen? Bad guy captures victim, good guy goes to save victim, everything happens at last second.
This is the basic formula for most scifi and fantasy shows going back years.
this crap isn't campy, its just stupid
@@AzraealGamer You're right, however, I think they meant the execution of that formula.
@@RC-rn3jm Yeah. Kinda like what fortnite is doing now with their game. They're changing it enough to be somewhat new while keeping old stuff. I know it's a weird comparison but you can agree.
Uhh 1 who sings this amazing song cause wow and 2 plzzz tell me Jim Henson productions made these puppets cause ngl I thought for sure a Jarreth look alike was going to show up for a sec 😊❤
Only one person can stop the goblins, and his name is GOBLIN SLAYER
I scrolled through the comments just to find a Goblin Slayer reference/shout out. Thank you!
DARN! YOU BEAT ME TO IT!
