I love that they didn't dumb down the choreography at all just because they're children. Those are some serious moves and those kids are absolutely killing it. Respect for true talent at any age.
I swear the other teachers in Matilda barely show up and for being a school you don’t see them. I say this as you cannot find one in the original movie. Not important plot wise but just weird
I like that you actually see them. We don't see other teachers at Crunchem Hall/Big Friendly School very often. In the book, there's a young male teacher who becomes Headmaster but he's never been in any other variation. Actually, I always prefer Miss Honey becoming the headmistress because she takes a more proactive role in making the school pleasant, happy, and Trunchbull free.
If you want to have the definition of "stealing the scene," look no further than Red Beret Girl. Phenomenal performance amongst a sea of amazing talent.

I love the detail that Hortensia seems to be leading the rebellion for the older kids while Bruce leads it for the younger kids. You can also tell she’s more rebellious from the beginning because of the beret (she’s the only person in Cruchem Hall to wear a hat that isn’t the school uniform), not to mention the pins on her dress AND the mismatched socks. Seems like she’s been plotting a rebellion for a while and she’s finally gotten the chance to co-lead one! The costume designers definitely knew what they were doing for Hortensia!
Just my theory, but I think the Trunchbull was a little intimidated by Hortensia. Like any bully, Trunchbull picked on the smallest and weakest kids. She just never counted on Matilda.

These kids as usual forget that school is run by government and they can do what they want when they put someone like Trunchbull in charge.
I don’t care if you hate this movie. I have four sons under ten and let me tell you, we can barely get out the door for school without an absolute meltdown. The fact that they were able to choreograph this so perfectly with young children is absolutely astounding to watch.
i feel like so stupid because i’m literally crying over this performance but it makes me so emotional seeing such TALENTED young children. Just knowing they put their heart and souls into this and it SHOWS! Their hard work paid off and it makes me emotional thinking how long they worked on this. IDK IM JUST A CRYBABY
Noooo don’t feel stupid ! Because im crying as we speak lol ! Something about live performances, children dancing or singing their hearts out ! Or just Someone performing reallly well makes me cry happy tears . It never fails ! I cried watching encanto live performance! This was beautiful you know they worked so hard ! You can see it ! I’m so proud of these kids !!!
Oh THANK GOD IM NOT THE ONLY ONE 😭 there’s just something, as you said, so incredible about seeing all of these kids give such a performance, knowing how INSANELY HARD they must have worked. Tbh I think it’s also because I’m moving ever closer to the point where I’m getting ready to have a kid, and the maternal tears come out at the weirdest moments…but that’s another conversation haha
Bruce gets it SO HARD like I am dying, the choreography is fantastic throughout but like 0:55 is just too good. Way too good. I shouted “get it!” at the tv, folks, Tim Minchin gets me That *smile* at 1:05 my guy knows he nailed it 🤣
At the risk of stating the obvious, this is what happens when a movie musical is made by people who not only understand the craft, but have a deep love of what they're doing and are given the time and resources to do their job and do it WELL.
That part made me sob, you can tell the emotion in Bruce’s voice singing about the chokey and him doubting himself made Matilda feel things too😭 she feels sorry for them.
Holy crap!! 1:29 has got to be the hardest entrance I've ever seen in a musical. Everything about it was awesome. I came here from the Rob Zombie mashup and I thought they had sped it up, by I was wrong. This is great.
There's a subtle moment where Matilda hears the words "a little bit naughty" and she smiles in recognition of her initial song, then looks sad as the lyrics go on to refer to the Chokey. That's so impactful to me. Also the reference to Revolting Rhymes is a nice Roald Dahl callback.
I stil don’t get why my family hates this so much. The choreo is perfect and is executed so perfectly!. And people don’t understand how difficult it is to get to the level of synchronization at 2:00 with that amount of children as well. Those kids are talented!
That first hallway shot, man. That is HARD to get right. If you look really closely you can see how much work went into creating the effect of Bruce moving forward down that middle aisle. The camera and the kids would have had to be perfectly in sync. All of it was amazing, but the organization and precision that it took to make that shot work is just out of this world.
So many talented kids in this movie. It's nice to see kids being in movies because they are actually talented and not because their mommy and daddy knows some people who know some people. I will never ever forget this movie.
@@tonystarkunlimited7332 Also "because their mommy and daddy knows some people" very rudely dismisses the kids who are well-connected but also super talented. Most child actors get the part because they were talented at the audition, barely any child actors get parts because they know someone who knows someone ffs.
I love that thus gives other kids besides Matilda the spotlight; like Bruce and Red Beret girl (I never learned her name), their dance moves are SICK! And they totally deserve all the attention they get in this song.
Every time I watch this I get teary eyed. The message of the song the ability of the children and the fact tht their parents believed in them and supported them to even have this opportunity. It’s all so beautiful and I genuinely wish ppl let children explore their passions more freely. This was beautiful.
I love how the teachers are cheering them on. They were prisoners too because if they opposed the Trunchbull...they would lose their jobs. This video always makes me tear up because of all the kids had to go through and now they are free. I am always amazed at the choreography and how these kids nailed the heck out of it!
I wasn’t sure if that was Bruce, but you’re the only comment I found that actually pointed out it was Bruce 😅 Thanks, I literally love the musical and I’ve watched it once yesterday, but I watched it another time today and I’m planning to watch it ANOTHER time today. It might even break my record where I watched Raya and the Last Dragon 11 times.
This performance is just fantastic. One of the best performances in any musical. So much going on in the background too. And I love the touch of the older teachers approving.
All of the kids were amazing, but I'd like to draw attention to: The girl flipping off the locker at 1:34 and off the railing at 1:49 The two kids at 1:46 This dude at 1:47 This guy doing backflips at 2:05 This girl at 2:10 They're so freakin' talented and deserve all the recognition for their skills!
Only allowing myself to watch one quadrant of the screen makes so many “draw attention” moments. There is so much in these scene that I could watch it for months and see new stuff.
In large groups like this there is always one kid off to the side that is behind or just totally off but every. Single. One. Of these kids freaking nailed it. Amazing
The one thing I hate about this movie is Miss Honey ngl she honestly upset me so much. Like these kids are suffering everyday and the only person who helps is another CHILD. She was so squeaky and just not helpful. I understand being afraid there's nothing wrong with that but the moments when she could've used her voice for these kids she was choking up and Matilda had to step up. Miss Honey wasn't even inspiring Matilda like the old Miss Honey, they weren't even safe in her classroom like she promised
@@daveyJ0nes to be fair Miss Honey has been abused, and in some way is still being abused, by Trunchbull her whole life. She is doing her best, but coping with what i assume was both psychological and physical abuse is not easy especially when she is in contact with her abused all working hours even now that she is an adult
I literally CAN'T get enough of this entire piece and choreography. They practiced DAMN hard for this and they deserve every ounce of praise for nailing this. HUGE THANK YOU to TIM MINCHIN for blessing us with genius lyrics throughout this musical!
I really like what the movie did with Bruce, it makes the fact that he starts the song mean something. Somewhere, I have a piece of paper that was Bruce's homework that the kids threw during this song. He's not a great student lol.
The true stars of this whole production are each and every child in this film. I am so impressed with the amount of talent in this production. They did not go easy with this choreography and these kids delivered. The actress that played Matilda was just as great. Just so amazing
Not to take away from the insanely talented kiddos but The directing and Videography of this is also so good, Its soo fantastically done, each scene is set up so perfectly and just elevates this whole performance. Super good stuff
The more I watch, the more I see. Their arm movements in the hallway where the are perfectly timed to not hit each other while moving forward is awesome.
They definitely nailed the entire movie's casting but... This song COULD NOT have been perfomed by anyone else other than Bruce and Hortensia! The energy they give us is A M A S I N G!!! (I specially love how Hortensia gives me full blown-out revolting entrance at 1:29!!! My favorite part!!!)
Tim Minchin NAILED it with the music. This song, especially, feels like it could be the theme for a lot of Roald Dahl's works. Everything came together so beautifully. These children are absolutely amazing and I loved that we got a little more of Miss Honey's background.
0:25 breaks me, because unlike everyone else, matilda's smile turns into a frown. because while she's happy the trunchbull is gone, she realises for her its not "never again"
Realy Love Bruce in this version. His intro solo at the beginning of this is the most adorable thing ever while also tugging at the heartstrings, knowing he had previously been in a tramatized and catatonic state. Then he proceeds to go ham on the dancing, iconic.
Literally got chills and tears came to my eyes. So full of life! We really are revolting children living in revolting times. Best thing to come out of 2022.
Honestly - The Matilda movie I think thr vast majority of us grew up with- Danny DeVito's movies will ALWAYS play a special role in childhood and I will always hold that near and dear in my heart and honestly, there is NO comparison needed to dissect which of the two are better because they are both so different. For this I love just how vulnerable all these kids were and just how ruthless and cruel Trunchbull was in this adaptation and the revelation of Trunchbull being Honey's step-aunt felt more of a wtf revelation in this. and then we are given THIS number?!? Bruce starting it off and having the school celebrate their liberation- FANTASTIC. and I think even Matilda bidding farewell to her distant and estranged parents- EVEN AFTER her father acknowledged her as his daughter for the first time was really heartwarming I wasn't expecting that. Yeah if this gets a physical release it's an instant buy
I couldn't have said it better myself. And yeah, I'm glade I wasn't the only one who caught the goodbye scene. Seems like both Matilda and her dad did care for each other, he just couldn't express it like he should and knew saying good bye to each other would be the best in the end.
I caught a glimpse of her dancing in a preview and watched the whole musical just to see her lol. I am a choreographer who has worked with lots of young people and I really enjoyed seeing all of these dedicated, talented and strong kids.
she is a dance prodigy, world champion is multiple tournaments. and a great actress too. her dance and performance is something i cant comprehend, so energetic and charismatic. i just cant stop watching
I love that this song gave Bruce and Hortensia the chance to shine. (Interestingly enough this Hortensia looks a lot like the one from the 1996 movie). These kids were phenomenal. The whole cast. Book, Movie, Musical, Movie Musical. I love all versions of Matilda.
Indeed! Gotta love the mentality that justified the Third Reich, Soviet Russia, the Taliban, Isis, CRT, Cancel Culture, and More! Wrong is Wrong. No matter how many screeching degenerates are wrong, they are all still Wrong.
Shout out to all of the dance teachers of these talented kids who trained them and helped them to be prepared for this amazing opportunity to blow us away with their powerful performance. Love this!!!
As someone who lived under dictatorship my whole life - this is beautiful. The song is not only great as story, it conveys such a cool message of freedom and fighting for it
The line “You’ve finally pushed us too far” always gives me chills!❤ Love it, love this song, love this performance and I love the talent that these kids all possess in abundance, and the love they’ve clearly put into this movie.
The best part is the glimpses of Matilda just watching from the side-line like a little psychopath, you can just see the look in her eyes of "yes look what I've ignited, burn it, burn it all down"
Dear god, the energy and the choreography of this scene is amazing! I would never thought it would translate so well from stage to on screen. Every dance number in this scene is on point and damn fucking good! I would be greatly disappointed if this didn't get any Emmy.
@@npm2457 the girl with the red hat and Bruce was amazing, Not to mention it took what 200+ kids to do this whole number. I give props to the director of choreography who could have 200+ kids do this with the precision of a professional dancer the fucking GOAT!!
@@DismemberedHatthese kids are professionals. Don’t under estimate them. I teach dance and a 10 year old focused child could learn this and execute it to this level in two weeks tops. Maybe less.

Where the hell do they find kids who does parkour + they're girls. I dint think i ever saw a little girl does parkour before 😭
It is SO HARD to make musicals. Especially when you want to tailor them to theatre. Notice how you rarely have an in-story perspective and the song is shot mainly from an audience aspect. The set design is perfectly compatible with the mobile camera which shifts focus constantly without cuts or change of angles. The choreography is remarkable, accomodating a large number of characters within a short time and in way that makes it easy to maintain an almost solitary perspective. The camera work is so efficient, capturing what needs to be captured and nothing more and making very little movement while doing so. And it is so insanely difficult to perform choreography like this with long cuts and syncronizing with dozens of people when your choreography involves not only steps but constant movement, gymnastics and dynamism, all the while not losing expressions and maintaining the song's energy. Just absolutely brilliant.
those kids are no joke! thay came to slay and they delivered!! those were some serious moves and the kids were cruising through it. shout out to how talented this cast is
My child was Bruce in the musical last year at their school and they absolutely rocked the house. It was such a proud former theater kid theater parent moment for me!!! I love this one

No, I did exactly the same thing!
Something impressive and impassioned moving you to tears is normal. Just means you’re emotionally healthy.
Don't worry i did too!
Bruce gets it SO HARD like I am dying, the choreography is fantastic throughout but like 0:55 is just too good. Way too good. I shouted “get it!” at the tv, folks, Tim Minchin gets me

At the risk of stating the obvious, this is what happens when a movie musical is made by people who not only understand the craft, but have a deep love of what they're doing and are given the time and resources to do their job and do it WELL.
0:25 so much emotion in that shot. Not a single word yet she portrayed joy, thrill, sorrow. Wow.
That was dope asf💯👏🏾

@@jassypr Would be sewn onto her wig.
Don't forget there was single shot panned from Bruce's entrance, so the planning of the shoot was incredible.
That's why I'm here lol
There's a subtle moment where Matilda hears the words "a little bit naughty" and she smiles in recognition of her initial song, then looks sad as the lyrics go on to refer to the Chokey. That's so impactful to me.
Also the reference to Revolting Rhymes is a nice Roald Dahl callback.
Oh my God I didn't notice that! That really is a great moment!
I love Roald Dahl's books so much :)
I stil don’t get why my family hates this so much. The choreo is perfect and is executed so perfectly!. And people don’t understand how difficult it is to get to the level of synchronization at 2:00 with that amount of children as well. Those kids are talented!

@@Muhsmokes9209 it's not even a remake, it's an adaptation of the actual musical!!

Man, that long take from 1:19 to 1:39 is incredible.

I really like what the movie did with Bruce, it makes the fact that he starts the song mean something. Somewhere, I have a piece of paper that was Bruce's homework that the kids threw during this song. He's not a great student lol.
Of course not, he's revolting. Lol
I still have a paper airplane the kids threw during this song. I keep it tucked away with the program from the show so I won't lose it.
The true stars of this whole production are each and every child in this film. I am so impressed with the amount of talent in this production. They did not go easy with this choreography and these kids delivered. The actress that played Matilda was just as great. Just so amazing
The Star is Matilda lol. But the whole cast is great.
Not to take away from the insanely talented kiddos but The directing and Videography of this is also so good, Its soo fantastically done, each scene is set up so perfectly and just elevates this whole performance. Super good stuff

This is one of the funnest songs ever. This is why I love this movie so much. It’s so fun.
