    Good tutorial, my first from this creator. I just subscribed.
    Suggestion to viewers: Change the UA-cam speed to .75 (via gear wheel icon on lower right). The speaker's voice still sounds normal at .75 because he naturally talks quickly, and I find it much easier to follow his words and screen movements at the slower speed.

    That was Super Helpful and Super Enlightening! I would've probably never learned that you could go outside of the program to choose colors if I had not seen this demo. That blew my mind! LOL. I've been playing around with that piece for a while and I have 3 monitors to choose from so I have all kinds of different colors going on over here!! That is one powerful azz tool Doc! Thanks for the share!

    Slick tutorial but can you bring up a larger color swatch and then, from the swatch, copy the hexadecimal number (for any particular color) and then, taking this a step further, find a Pantone or fococolor equivalent? Sampling colors is all well and good but what do you do when the client demands a specific Pantone (or fococolor) color and you have nothing from which to sample?

    • @bydesignmethod
      @bydesignmethod  Рік тому

      Great questions Roger! For HEX codes go to your colour tab in the top right, using the 'hamburger' menu to the right of that and select 'Wheel' - right below the wheel you'll see the HEX code box. Whatever colour is loaded into your colour at that moment will display the HEX. For swatches go to Window > Swatches in here you'll find a drop down menu that says 'colour' - Pantones and such will be located there. Let me know if that makes sense and thanks for watching!!!

      @@bydesignmethod Thanks much for the prompt reply and the information. While I am not currently working with Affinity Photo (I am making preparations to get a new Mac computer and an OS that will allow me to purchase and install Affinity software). I have been a Adobe Photoshop user for a little over 20 years. Your explanation makes perfectly good sense. Thanks again. (As to the "hamburger" menu, is that with onions and pickles....... lol. )

    Thank you for explain this tool! I have one doubt, on Photoshop pressing a simple alt key on my keyboard I can fast change from brush tool for color pick and when I release alt the tool return to brush. Do you know if we have something similar to this on Affinity?

    • @bydesignmethod
      @bydesignmethod  11 місяців тому +1

      Hey Leonardo! I don't think affinity has something like that (it sounds great!) but shortcuts (B) for brush and (i) for the colour picker. Thank you for watching!

    • @bydesignmethod
      @bydesignmethod  Місяць тому +1

      Hey,
      try going to your hamburger menu at the top left of the colour panel - select 'sliders' and then from the dropdown select 'HSL'
      Let me know if that's what you're looking for!

    I'm a new user to Affinity Photo 2. When I select a color with the color picker tool from inside the image I am working on it is always a little darker, not an exact match. Same thing when using the color picker in the color palette. Any idea what is causing this?

    • @bydesignmethod
      @bydesignmethod  Рік тому

      Hey Steve ! when you're sampling a colour is it a solid colour (like a blue box, etc) or something that has colours around it that are visible when you highlight it with the colour picker tool? Affinity takes the surrounding pixels into account and creates the sample based off that. I can't say I've experienced that issue. You could always compare the RGB numbers between the two by clicking on the 'hamburger' menu to the right of your colour tab selecting the option 'Sliders' and then 'RGB Hex' to see what each number is showing under R G B. Sounds like a lot I know, but it's a few clicks. Let me know!

      @oregontrail3 Рік тому +2

      @@bydesignmethod Thanks for the quick reply.
      I have solved the problem and will describe here for anyone else experiencing this issue. For background I was a 26 year photoshop user (digital artist) who just made the switch to Affinity Photo and am trying to replicate my workflow. When working on a layer if you adjust that layer with curves the color picker will no longer accurately sample the colors you see on that layer. Workaround: 1. Select the layer below. 2. Create a new pixel layer and name it the same as the one you want to accurately sample. 3. Merge the upper layer you want to sample down to the new layer and you can again accurately sample the colors.

    what about stroke?
    it only applies on fill color

    • @bydesignmethod
      @bydesignmethod  5 місяців тому

      Hey, I just did a test. It works exactly the same for me for stroke - as long as you have stroke selected and you grab the colour picker it should work the same.

    Is there a way once you select a color and lift your pencil that it will go back to the previous brush I was using? like in photoshop.

    In my HSL dialogue window, I do NOT have the picker (or color history). How do I get it? I downloaded the free trial so unsure if the free trial has limitations.

    • @bydesignmethod

      Hey,
      The free version should include everything - you normally do not have the colour picker option within the HSL adjustment.
