Oh god, thank you for making this tutorial. Coming from Illustrator (and while generally loving Designer), nothing has made me more confused and frustrated than the "eyedropper" tools. They never seemed to do what I expected them to, and I was of the opinion that the tools were horrible. You've simply and succinctly explained how they work, and after watching your video and doing about two minutes of in-app testing, I feel much happier about the style picker tool. That "click in the whitespace to unload the picker" tip is absolute GOLD. The tool was so annoying before you taught me that. Thanks!
hi, thanks for the tutorials. you make them easy to understand. maybe you could make one on how to import gradients. i can use and make my own gradients but theres lots of downloadable ones which are great but i cannot get them to import...maybe thats just me 🤣🤣🤪
Hi Rolex, thanks for the comment! A few months ago I made a video about gradients. Toward the end I talk about how to use gradients you find online...maybe it will be useful to you: ua-cam.com/video/PTVNfiJKiHk/v-deo.html
You have the best videos for Affinity! When I’m using InDesign and I want to paste text in the document so it matches the text style of the text currently in InDesign, I’m able to PASTE TO MATCH STYLE. Is there a way to do that in Affinity?
Hi Tony, thanks for the comment! Yes, I believe a similar function is in Affinity Designer. Under the "Edit" menu, there are several different "Paste..." options. I don't know exactly how InDesign's feature works. But in Affinity Designer, you could: - Paste your "New Text" into a document - Copy the "Styled Text" - Select the "New Text" and do Edit -> Paste Style. There may be a quicker way to do it. Hope this helps!
At 4:22 when you added the dotted line it created a weird, interesting looking effect. Why wasn't it just a regular dashed line? It looks like a FX was being applied, too. edit: now I see that the square had the FX from the green square.
Thanks again Trent. It's it possible to select a gradient of red copy it and then just change to blue without it going solid and automatically assigning the gradient. Hope you understand.
Hi CremeCut! If you wanted to copy a red gradient from Object A to Object B, you could use the style picker and set it so just the "Fill" option is selected. Then after copying the style to Object B, you could select the Gradient Tool and click Object B to alter the colors to blue. I'm not sure if this is exactly what you mean, but hope it helps!

Thanks, never figured out how to use the style picker reliably before. Just what I needed.
Thank you Trent for making this video. I can't wait to use the style picker! It's so easy and I was making it way too difficult.
Thanks for your help with photo modifications.
Great video. Thanks Trent.

Hi Karin! Yup, it had some effects applied which made it look a little strange.
