    I'll leave a like because this is a very informative video and very helpful. I came from using photoshop and a lot of things I've learned there translate into Affinity, but some things do not, so I like to watch videos to see what else I can learn. My only issue is that it seems like A LOT of people that do tutorial videos seem to have this habit of smacking when they talk. It drives me up the wall, and for that I usually avoid those UA-camrs. I'm not trying to be a Karen, I just absolutely despise unnecessary mouth noises.

    Coming from years with Photoshop here... I don't understand the difference or benefit of the rubber band mode selected. Doesn't the default pen tool allow for creating bezier curves already? It's even in the icon for the tool, the bezier curves. What is the rubber band part adding or doing differently?

    • @bydesignmethod
      @bydesignmethod  Рік тому

      Rubber band mode allows you to see in real time - you can see it before you drop a new point, kind of like a live preview. Nothing major, but a nice feature I like.

    Dear I want to know after select the object through pen, you should not click seleection directly you click mask ....what if i select first selection then mask ..and what is the best way to export as png file ..mask layer or new layer and what if i skip refine wil it be ok to export as png ...please advice ..

    • @bydesignmethod
      @bydesignmethod  Рік тому +1

      Hey Suryansh! You can use either Mask or Selection or isolate an object. Once you have the object isolated you can make your background transparent by going to the top menu and selecting 'Document > Transparent Background' - Just make sure all other layers are turned off. You should see a 'checkerboard' behind the object. To export the file to go 'File > Export' and make sure you select 'PNG' from the menu. Let me know!

    How do you get back your pen curves once you’ve used for a mask?

    • @bydesignmethod
      @bydesignmethod  5 місяців тому

      Hey sorry for the delay on this.
      Select your mask in the layers panel and then select the Node tool (found with the pen tool) to adjust those curves.

    I realise this video is from a year back so this may not be noticed, but I've just got Affinity, so... I'm a little confused about why you erased within a selection rather than adding that area to the mask. Are you just demonstrating different techniques, or is there a reason you can't add it to the mask?

    • @bydesignmethod
      @bydesignmethod  6 місяців тому +2

      Hey,
      Great point! I personally use an eraser when I know I do not need that portion but working with a mask (non destructive) is certainly a better way to go about it! You could also 'cut' that selection to remove it as well.
      Thanks for watching and bringing up an excellent point!

  • @MrMarkIrish
    @MrMarkIrish Рік тому +3

    Great stuff, I like your approach. I would make one suggestion if I may, and that is instead of erasing the pixels from the image layer, paint black on the matte layer. It will keep your work completely non-destructive.

    • @bydesignmethod
      @bydesignmethod  Рік тому +1

      Thanks Mark! Totally a great option to make the work non-destructive! Great tip!

  • @VFX_Hunter

    HEY, could you give me the key strokes to export a file of the selection once I've cut it out?
    Everyone shows how to use a pencil, but they don't show how to export what you've cut out for future use.
    That would be very helpful. I wanna PNG with the transparent background that I can plop that bunch of bananas onto anything but people just show up cutting it out. Well, that's not enough.
    I'm frustrated. I would appreciate somebody telling me what I do after I cut it out then hit the mask thing. What do I have to do to export that selection pencil cut out selection?

    • @bydesignmethod
      @bydesignmethod  6 місяців тому

      Hey,
      I think I understand you. Saving selections and making them as a spare channel is probably not what you're looking for.
      Whatever document you're working on, first make sure you have a transparent background by going to 'Document > Transparent background'
      Once you've made your selection and hit 'mask' you should just see that object with the checkboard background.
      From there export it as a PNG file. The file 'frame' will be the size of the original object but you can always change that later.
      Let me know if that helps, if I misunderstood let me know!

    Frustrated! All I want to do is create a selection from my drawn path. So I can copy it and place it in another file. In psd it's 'simply 'make path' (with the path selected). I can't see the 'mask' tool in Infinity.

    • @bydesignmethod
      @bydesignmethod  3 місяці тому

      Hey,
      Once you have your selection try going up to 'select > refine edges' from there you'll get the refine box - at the bottom you can select 'new layer, mask' etc - I would pick new layer so it appears separate and then copy it over.
