Van life is on hold.. After collecting a new self build campervan from Germany, we're trying to import it into Spain, it's proving more difficult then we originally thought with all the red tape that Spain has in place for importing modified vehicles.. Hopefully we can get an answer, strip everything out of the van and get legal before doing the build all over again! After being messed about by one company already and that all going to pot, we're really hoping that we can find someone to help with this tricky process! Stay tuned to see how it all works out and keep your fingers crossed! :)

I still can't get over the crazy hoops that you're being forced to jump through just to register Velton in Spain. The bureaucracy is ridiculous.
Yeahhhh, i also live in Spain, but to be fair they dont want to import even more crap vehicles that are already on the roads in Spain. How they pass strict ITV (MOT) tests i have no idea (prob dont have one 😢) but vans, campervans & motorhomes are particularly difficult. Even if you have a ventilator or tow bar fitted, they have to be homologated and a whole new ITV inspections done for each modification, which is why there is no market for aftermarket performance or modification parts in Spain 🤯
Yeah, it’s kinda crazy but that’s life! It’ll all work out in the end😊

@@shelleypeppard4694 just because something is "normal" or the same in another country doesn't make it "right", it's ludicrous that they have to strip the van and reinstall the bulkhead etc just to import it from another European country, surely there must be a better way? Have a specialist inspection done, make sure it's safe and that's it but to make you strip it completely and weld holes and what not for a bit of paper just to put everything back in once you're done is just crazy. Cannot wrap my head around it. I would think there would be a little more "trust" when it comes to imports/exports p seeing as it's an import from another European country but I guess not. Crazy.

The good thing about everything being out the van is, even if you don’t have to strip it back completely you can paint the walls and stuff if that’s what your planning on doing. ( putting your own stamp on it ) before you put everything back in. Job done! 😉

Its not a problem guys, its a challenge, and its game on. Strip the van, do the stuff you need doing and while you're at it, think about how you can improve the layout when you put it back together. If you get a move on it will be ready for the spring. Loved the vlog by the way, you are very good at what you do. 👋

Just an add-on "True Blue Travellers" on UA-cam have just finished an old Sainsbury's refrigerated van. They admittedly have MEGA tools/space etc, but, their ideas etc are very interesting and, as you have to start again, worth a look, as, they've done a few 'different ' builds and, like you are a very likeable couple!

There are 17 "Autonomous Regions" (provinces) in Spain each with its own distinctive characteristics and limited ability to modify existing regulations.
Add to this a tendency for "functionarios" (civil employees) to interpret regulations according to their mood and disposition on the day this can lead to some "inconsistencies".
We have lived in Andalusia for more than 25 years and always drive our vehicle to another province for its annual ITV inspection - partly because the test centre we use is quieter and the mechanics are more agreeable. But safety laws remain safety law and any deviation from compliance to national government regulations will always be minimal.

Some workvans in uk have ventilation via a max air fan, also some have shelving to accomodate tools etc even a loo or shower as they might need to use it for work,so check if you can at least leave the shower and a few cupboards. Good luck and keep positive 💚

Hi guys can I just say how I feel for you my hubby bought a motor bike last Xmas was supposed to be all rebuilt but when he started riding it in may was not right in the end had to rebuild it himself , he was like you devasted as he paid alot if money for it , and the thought of doing this when it was supposed to be done was heartbreaking but once he got over the thought and got on with it , he was fine now he knows that it's right so moral is I know it's hard but you will get there and once it's done will be worth it and you bay even do some things differently, I still feel that vinster is beautiful but I understand why you had another one lots of love and energy thus time next year will feel like a bad dream much love to both of you sorry for long message by wanted to say how much you are loved ❤❤❤❤

Hey Guys. What a clusterfkuc! Surely the paneling and the floor can stay? Panel vans have paneling inside from the factory... As for the holes in the roof, dont go welding anything. Buy some white Chromadek and Pop rivet it on with some sealant using the existing holes, if there are any. Otherwise just Sikaflex it down , job's a goodun. If you do it before youre told to, they probably wont even notice it. Spain sounds a bit like here in Africa... You just gotta find THAT guy... Yknow wot I mean? Holding thumbs

Should've 'borrowed' a couple of supermarket trolleys 😅😅😅
This would interest me: If you had used all the money you spent on travelling to Berlin (train fares, car rent, hotel bills),
all legal fees (export plates etc)
,all diy materials (wood, lino, power tools, nut, screws and bolts) fuel for the return journey, legalization in Spain (COC, technicians, mechanics and whatever, paying a company to sort it all out), fuel for the "8hour journey" ,van insurance and tax (have I forgot something? Oh, yes tax and insurance for TWO vans).
Well, if added up it would surely be over € 5000 (10.000?) - not adding the cost of future modifications.
Vinny could have had a really good do over...new brakes, even a new engine - everthing done in a garage by experts (you'd have warranty on the parts as well) .
No bother, no hassle, no hoops.
Just good ol' Vinny up and runing, purring like a pussycat!!

👍 An excellent comment. It's a mystery isn't it? It wasn't that long ago that they were supposedly buying property in Portugal so presumably the budget for that would have payed for work on the older van.
It used to be an interesting Mhome travel Vlog but it's morphed into something else of late. I've taken to watching it only as kind of nonstop horror type of entertainment. Many of the comments actually terrify me because they are suggestions that could only have been dreamed whilst serving time in prison.
Putting your whole life on UA-cam to fund an otherwise untenable lifestyle obviously has it's drawbacks.

Nice video! Excelent roof terrace you have with very nice view. Try to find out how the van is accepted with workspace iike the plumber or electricians are having. I think important when you have to de ITV inspections otherwise you have to bring it back into original state as imported every time. The cargo shield will be required every time for inspection. This is a safety feature. that is the minimum I guess for passing. Because work vans will not change every time fot this ITV. Hope you will be lucky in this matter without taking out all. Don't let it look like a camper maybe a reporting and video processing mobile office unit necessary for on the road. Best of of luck Guy's! Keep them coming....
Once the van is on Spanish plates, we will then start the build and legalise it as a campervan! It’s going to be a lot of work but hopefully fun ahead!! 😊
@@theexPAWers Hope you are able to do that. The structural safety issues is a headache if you have to proof them. But ITV is hopefully relaxed.
Also think about what is cargo and what is not with a campervan. In Germany a roof rack is cargo and does not fall under structural safety requirements. Spain may have probabely the same rules. Keep an eye on it with internal structures.
